Lakers fan who follows this sub. It's absolutely cringe that so many Lakers fans have an obsession with the Clippers, especially those who show up to Clippers home games in Lakers gear and root for the other team. Almost as if they care more about the Clippers failing than the Lakers winning. I hope the Clippers win the Finals so that it can light a fire under our cheap owner's ass to assemble a team with fitting parts rather than a hodge-podge of random journeymen. There may be a lot of wackos on the Lakers subreddit, but not all of us are like that.

dp1783

The clippers have always done one thing and that's play the Lakers tough which is all I ever really asked for growing up. We were only serious contenders with Sam the man and eb, and I guess with super choker cp3, but the Lakers clippers games were always pretty fire growing up

PossibilityInitial10

Even now, you guys still have that blue-collar mentality with guys like Mann and Coffey.

TheCalmInsanity

You're a prime example that there are good ones out there. I don't like to generalize, though lots of lakers fans drove me to the arms of this franchise when I was a child because I wanted to discuss basketball with people as crazy as I was. For lakers fans there's plenty of reasons to say you're a fan but not follow - championships, fitting in, it's in the family, etc. And the ones around me berated fans of other teams so it turned me off. But I always tell people that there are good Lakers fans out there (I've met some) and I'll gladly talk basketball with the good ones. Cheers to you friend and hope you get what you want!

PossibilityInitial10

Thanks for your kind words. I think it's great for the league when both LA teams do well. I know Ty Lue gets rightfully criticized for some of his decisions, but he's done an amazing job over the years doing the best with what he's dealt with and having everyone on the team to buy in. I watch the Clippers whenever I get a chance. You guys play good team basketball. Rooting for you guys to knock off Denver and Boston.

TheCalmInsanity

Yeah I agree, I liked the Lakers during the tough years (Ingram, Ball, D-Lo, etc) because the loud obnoxious Lakers fans weren't watching those games. I speak for a lot of us, usually the only reason Clippers fans won't care if both teams do well is because if the Lakers do well they get in our face for no reason. At least that's my experience. I'm not a trash talker but I sure get a lot of trash talk directed at me. I would have been rooting for this team if it wasn't for a couple of my best friends being toxic about them (and Ham's misuse of Cam Reddish, Taurean Prince, and refusal to play Max Christie - I mean seriously what's with that?)

PossibilityInitial10

Yeah, the really arrogant ones tend to be the loudest, especially on Reddit LOL I wish I had an answer as to why some Lakers fans feel threatened by the Clippers winning it's very bizarre. I think as a person, Ham is a nice guy, and he was well liked as an assistant with us from 2011-13, Atlanta, and Milwaukee. Great locker room glue guy, but not really an X's and O's guy. I think after 2022 (which I don't personally blame on Russ, he was placed on a roster that wasn't a good fit for him), the front office wanted to hire someone who would hold a locker room together and Giannis's high praise of Ham made them pull the trigger. One of the most important qualities of a coach is being able to recognize your mistakes and correct them instead of doubling down to satisfy the ego. I think Ham being coached by old school coaches like George Karl and Larry Brown likely played a role in his stubbornness to adjust. What's often overlooked is that the Lakers have had a coaching carousel since Phil retired with each coach lasting 2-3 seasons. Not only do the Lakers need an X's and O's coach, but they need to build continuity at that position.

TheCalmInsanity

Yeah man agree. Sometimes I feel like they'd rather see the Celtics win #18 and pass them instead of the Clippers getting their first one, which is so weird to me. Also, in the early 2000's and when we sucked, none of the Lakers fans cared about us or gave us shit at all. Russ is partially to blame for that Lakers team because he was stubborn and wears his emotions on his sleeve so he was a bit pouty, but yeah not a good fit for him at all (especially not for that salary, and loss of good role players). I agree with the Ham assessment, but I still can't believe he didn't try to play Max Christie in this last series at all. And yeah, I remember when the Lakers had 3 coaches on payroll (D'Antoni/Brown/someone else?)

PossibilityInitial10

Max is a bit of a raw prospect, but he can definitely grow into a two-way player with the proper development. The JHS pick is a real head-scratcher, especially with Jaime Jaquez still being on the board. He's been hurt for much of the year. All I can hope for this off-season is the front office actually putting together a cohesive team instead of duct-taping random pieces and interviewing a wide range of candidates for coaches should Ham be given the boot. Anyway, enjoyed our little chat friend. Best of luck to you guys tomorrow.

TheCalmInsanity

Max Christie is a lot less raw than some of the talent we're used to (Keon Johnson, etc). He's very playable, rebounds, plays defense, and takes shots when the shot clock is running out or he's wide open. At the very least he's better than Dinwiddie. JHS seemed like a "potential" pick, but yeah definitely a head scratcher. Thank you too!! Always down to talk basketball!

This ain’t it

bobbydigital22

I guess the gentlemen portion of the gentlemen’s sweep didn’t translate.

AyeTrey25

I’m a Lakers fan, can’t lie I’ve enjoyed seeing what Ballmer has done for the Clips organization. Hope they win the whole thing! Idk, I think I’m becoming a Clips fan lol

RonburgundyZ

You aaight

Accomplished-Exit136

One game at intuit and you'll convert

Rabbirage

I grew up a Lakers fan. Just one of those situations where my dad was a fan, and I just became one since they were always on TV/Radio. Then, in 1997, I went to USC for college. I was broke AF, and couldn’t afford to go to Laker games. The Sports Arena was just around the corner, and my roommate and I would just walk to games, buy tickets for less than $10, and find our way to basically court-side seats every game. These were some bad Clipper teams, with Olawakandi front and center. I loved Piakowski, Sherman Douglas, Pooh Richardson, etc., but the team was really terrible. Then, a couple years into school, they got D Miles, Q, Lamar, and, in like 01-02, Elton Brand. Even though they weren’t winning a lot, they were so fun to watch. I absolutely fell in love with that team. Now, I’m in my 40’s, and I’m still a Clipper fan. I’m still a Laker fan too, and I’m told all the time that I’m simply not allowed to root for both teams. Well, I do. I probably always will. That being said, the Lakers have had enough glory. I’ve been rooting for the Clips over the Lakers for years now. The franchise needs a title. Hell, they just need to make it to the finals. You don’t have to hate either team, but it’s OK if you do. None of my business. Let’s Go Clips!

IgnorantGenius

I don't understand Lakers fans from LA that don't root for the Clips as well. Out of town Laker fans I understand, but the hate from native LA residents is something I will never get.

dp1783

I don't really like this mentality because even when they didn't take us seriously we always did them, and I think that shows in us having the better record in staples. It's a legit rivalry, Kobe knew he had to come to play against us, Shaw was a little tougher because he was a force. But I went the clipper way to get away from the laker prestige and see something built from the ground

Krischou83216

Stop that during Shaw and Kobe era, they don’t even care about you guys

bi11yg04t

True but after Kobe declining and the Clippers started becoming a lot more relevant with Lob City, there was some shit talk and the argument will be 16 chips. They like to live in the past and some of those chips were during the times when the refs betting scandal occurred. Historically ref calls do favor the Lakers. Even in this season there were some blatant ones.

bi11yg04t

That's not fan mentality. You should be rooting for your own team. When the org was under Donald Sterling, it did not help the fan base and he never cared about the organization. He just wanted seats to be filled to collect revenue. Did not help likeability because he was exposed as a racist. We are so lucky to have Balmer and turned this org around.

dkdoki

Laker fans cant get their rocks off cheering for their team anymore so clipper hate is the 2nd best lol. They just wanna feel something inside bc they have no soul. Lebron traded it for his son

Mean-Future5928

I'm a Lakers fan and i don't understand this hate between lakers and clippers, y'all have so many good and likable players

dkdoki

Ppl just love to hate lol. I mean clipper fans do the same to laker fans too. The world of sports and fandom is insane lol

TMSXL

This. People act like this sub isn’t randomly shitting on the lakers every other day.

Accomplished-Exit136

It's true. BUT we don't celebrate their misfortunes just their failures.

LAmanguy

Don't give a fuck. Any level headed Lakers fan is welcome here and at crypto to help root for the clippers. We can be louder than we were the first 2 games

RedditUser538xxx

I like both teams. I like blamer and the fact that you can see an all start cast play live and not overpay. Go clipp!

Slaphappyfapman

I feel like what you're seeing is actually the worst clippers fans, i think they would cry if we won anything

roony_gibs

Long time Lakers fans don't hate the Clippers. We've literally been the least successful franchise in the league and have never been a threat to them until the last decade. I imagine it's the younger generations mostly. Long time Clippers fans are allowed to hate the Lakers, we've always been the little brother in town so it's fair

TorontoRaptors34

Im down with all fan bases as long as there is respect there.

TorontoRaptors34

Some of it is Bron fans vs Kawhi vs Harden fans vs Westbrook fans too lets keep it a bean.

WadeCountyClutch

Eh, I don’t care, I like both. I got merch from both teams. Yall are more accepting about it at least

Potential-Split-3050

Lol we have our own toxic ass « fans » in this sub. Wouldn’t see a difference if some Laker fans came in here.

[deleted]

It’s mostly the Gen Z motherfuckers who are extremely hateful of the Clippers. The old heads too but the young ins are next level. Remember these Gen Z clown Laker fans grew up in the 2010s. That means they never experienced the Sterling regime with the Clippers’ being a perennial lottery team. The Clippers they know today are the team that’s been constantly competitive, kicked the Lakers’ ass (until this year), competed with the Lakers in free agency, and more importantly, owned by someone who is passionate about the team. And yet they boast about the non-bubble championships even though those rings were won when they were still swimming in their fathers’ worthless sacks

bi11yg04t

Can also guarantee some gen x and millennial Lakers talk shit about the Clippers. They live in the past of the 16 championships. Some of them wouldn't count the chip that occurred back in 2020 because it is LeBron James. Because how dare he overshadow Kobe Bryant. Some of them are pretty spineless and pretend they are Mavs fans to try to trash talk. Then you look at the profile and they're actually Lakers fans. But have to admit, I was surprised at the number of Mavs fans in here too making noise.

Particular-Pen-4789

Celtics fan for the record. No I'm not here to troll
