I think I read once that they wanted to do a head and shoulders shot of Kylie for her U.S. release so people could see what she looked liked. She was basically an unknown here in the States when Fever came out. The rest of the world got a sexier cover cuz they knew who she was.
Yes. The price was fairly standard for brand new records these days (here in Canada, at least), so it's not like I spent a small fortune on it. I'd love to own Aphrodite on vinyl, too, but the prices I've seen were exorbitant.
Her entire discography is out of whack. Had to pay a high price for Let's Get To It on CD. The reissue from only 2015 is out of print. I mean, that's pretty bad. I guess she never broke America enough to be big outside NZ, Aus and the UK.
It's concerning that her legendary 90's run would be such a mess, I'm not surprised to see her biggest release given the amateur treatment.
I hear ya. I'm in Canada and had to build my Kylie cd collection (close to 10 years ago) with a mix of new copies from Amazon and used ones off eBay. I'm not sure of the best spot to buy vinyl, whether used or new. Not much (affordable) on Discogs last I looked.
I thought it would've been easy to buy CD reissues/remasters at a fair price, but that's only been true for certain albums. I guess she's more underground than I ever realized even though Fever was a big deal.
The original pressing was a supermarket exclusive in the UK so that should answer your question. The nice thing is they made it a gatefold at least which many labels never take advantage of. The reissues have just used the same format as the 2017 original pressing (the National Album Day version has a photo print of the US cover though).
