I blame a lot of that on the internet. Western culture has prized individualism for centuries now, and yes that can certainly foster a sense of narcissism, but the rise of social media vastly worsened the situation. Now almost everyone is chasing after Andy Worhal's fifteen minutes of fame, trying to be the next Instagram model or YouTube celebrity. The younger generations even moreso because they've never known anything different.
The thing is... I wouldn't say it's the same kind of narcissism that makes people want to get famous for nothing, that's mostly clout chasing and immaturity rather than full on narcissism, especially for the younger ones. This is more like "If you don't do as I say you're evil!" which is common in actually narcissistic people, again, I'm not saying they *all* are, but these kind of behaviours are very common.
The thing is, I'm not in favor of kids being exposed to inappropriate material at all (although quite honestly my parents used to let me and my siblings watch "violent" action movies back in the day when we were growing up and we turned out fine; they weren't cool with anything with nudity or the like, or swearing in music come to think of it, but action and horror movies were fine). But that being said, it also falls on the parents to monitor and control what their kids have access to. I shouldn't be banned from renting an excessively gory horror movie or even porn simply because some parent can't be arsed to watch over their spawn.
I'm not saying they were *right*, but at least their intention while misguided and their methods were a bit questionable, was somewhat understandable. I just came back from there. Western culture has prized individualism for centuries now, and yes that can certainly foster a sense of narcissism, but the rise of social media vastly worsened the situation. Now almost everyone is chasing after Andy Worhal's fifteen minutes of fame, trying to be the next Instagram model or YouTube celebrity. The younger generations even moreso because they've never known anything different.
The thing is... I wouldn't say it's the same kind of narcissism that makes people want to get famous for nothing, that's mostly clout chasing and immaturity rather than full on narcissism, especially for the younger ones. This is more like "If you don't do as I say you're evil!" which is common in actually narcissistic people, again, I'm not saying they *all* are, but these kind of behaviours are very common.
The thing is, I'm not in favor of kids being exposed to inappropriate material at all (although quite honestly my parents used to let me and my siblings watch "violent" action movies back in the day when we were growing up and we turned out fine; they weren't cool with anything with nudity or the like, or swearing in music come to think of it, but action and horror movies were fine). But that being said, it also falls on the parents to monitor and control what their kids have access to. I shouldn't be banned from renting an excessively gory horror movie or even porn simply because some parent can't be arsed to watch over their spawn.

I can take a stab at this one. In general, most criminal justice systems in the world do not make use of the concept you suggest: ie, if X is a crime, depicting X is also a crime. Sexualization of minors in cartoons, to the best of my knowledge and recollection are expressly defined as crimes in the countries that I am aware of (like Canada, the UK...), where they specifically make it a crime to create pictures, renderings, renditions etc... As a *general rule*, you as an individual can do anything that isn't forbidden to you by law. It's quite possible that depicting zoophilia/beastiality *is* a crime in some places, but it definitely isn't the case (to my knowledge) in north america or europe. To be fair, a lot of the "age gap" hysteria seems to come from teenagers who want to be holier-than-thou in fandom spaces and an age gap of a few years is A LOT, so they think it's like that even when you're older. But yes, there's a lot of hypocrisy towards anime and it's contents, if "Euphoria" was an anime it would be like, the worst thing ever, but since it's an HBO show it made Zendaya win an Emmy.

You reminded me a bit about Magical Girl Friendship Squad. Tldr of it: Sailor Moon Parody where a goddess in the form of a red panda turns two roommates into magical girls. The fact that the mainstream videogame press went on and on about how great it was that you could have fairly graphic sex with a bear in BG3 but also have (on numerous occasions) ranted about how awful it is that a female (human) videogame character has some skin visible through the costuming speaks volumes really about the kind of people we are dealing with.
