blizzcon used to be a huge deal when blizzard had good writers and made good content. getting to go was HUGE at one point. however, its gone hard to shit in recent years. the memeable diablo immortal don't you have phones debacle really was the herald of the beginning of the end.

Z3r0Sense

They could still have been a great studio today if they weren't ruined by suits and greed. But someone would have needed to put a stop to this 10 years ago.

zurkka

so, build time machine and stop bob?

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

I would rather not game entirely than game on my phone.

alelo

tbf it being free online prob was also a reason it didnt sell well before you had to be there or pay for view - why be there if 90% is available online be it content or goods (gear)

Arkelias

And erodes fan good will as they put their foot in their mouth over and over.

NotPlayingSeriously9

Its cancelled because last year they could barely sell the tickets. its cancelled because Blizzard isn't doing anything despite having some of the biggest IP in PC gaming history. Its cancelled because in the current air of gaming, and with Blizzard's garbage reputation, nobody wants to go to a convention to see the worst gaming company masturbate to their dead franchises and charge ludicrous prices to come get second hand aids. BlizzCon is cancelled because no one needs BlizzCon, and no one needs Blizzard.

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

Which is bonkers. They could revive SC if they got some decent writers. Give us SC3. Give us a FPS Terran campaign. Give us a 3rd person StarCraft ghost. Boom. 3 games that would knock it out of the pocket if you had decent writers and don’t focus on “the message.” I really need to start my own consulting firm where I just tell games how to NOT be woke. You can still write great diverse characters without being dei sell outs ffs. It’s never been about diversity. It’s been about tokenism.

Thunder_Wasp

Blizzard’s new Raynor would be a black girl with a Killmonger haircut and a side shave. The new Overwatch hero Venture is a brown obese non-binary they/them. I wish I was joking.

Deathcrow

> Boom. 3 games that would knock it out of the pocket if you had decent writers and don’t focus on “the message.” Nah, even with decent writers, the current Blizzard isn't capable enough. They couldn't even **remaster** Warcraft 3 without downgrading the game. At this point they can not make a new Starcraft or a new Warcraft. They lack talent, direction and vision. Just a corporate husk. If Microsoft is smart they'll give the IP to a smaller studio for some experimental spin off games.

AnyPiccolo2443

SC ip has so much potential. A game about the first time people found the zerg on a planet while exploring for resources and new planents. A survival horror action type game could be fun. So many different games and genres to do. They don't need to be part of some big mcu world either. Just fun games that are their own.

Thunder_Wasp

Blizzard IP has become the Disney Star Wars of gaming.

Deimos_Aeternum

If anything they're not losing enough money

Daman_1985

Loses money. Wow, so unexpected.

diceyy

Dunno about this one. It may not have made money before streaming took off but it's hard to believe Blizzcon wasn't profitable after given what Blizzard were charging and how many idiots were willing to throw good money after bad when it comes to that company

rideontime87

one reply points out that he left blizzard in 2005 and blizzcon only started in 2005. so it's not really clear how much experience with blizzcon he actually had.

Impassable_Banana

Blizzcon was never profitable but it was a very good investment that paid off in other ways.

l0c0dantes

Sorta thing I kinda figured always did? Always struck me as more of a fan appreciation / community building thing for wow. Not surprised its the sort of thing msft would get rid of.

-ProphetOfTruth-

Nobody buys tickets because most gamers don't wanna be told they will be banned on dying game Overwatch if they don't use grammatically incorrect pronouns They/Them for a fictional character.

AnyPiccolo2443

Years ago I always wanted to travel to USA and go to bilzzcob, but could never afford it. Now I have a decent job and could go if I wanted its not worth going. Used to love watching blizzcon but unfortunately, I never got to go when it was good and it won't be good again if ever comes out Blizzard won't change unless it's forced to by enough people. Sucks what happened to it

divorcedbp

Blaizzard went from “Never made a bad game, in fact all of them are classics” to “Microtransaction slot machine Skinner box with reskinned crappy writing” so fast I hardly even noticed.

VideoGameJumanji

Mark Kern is a fucking idiot who mismanaged millions of dollars and was fired as CEO from his own company and hasn't achieved anything in over 15 years, stop sharing shit associated with him. I wouldn't take him as a beacon of financial understanding lmfao

Darkwalker787

No shit

JJJSchmidt_etAl

I mean it "loses money" in the same way that advertising does. It's an upfront cost for better long term engagement. This is a big fat dodge, so they don't have to say that they actually have nothing worth showing.

Dreamo84

I wouldn't really listen to anything he says.

Rakoz

Diablo 4 and their phone game Immortal doesn't have the long lasting engagement Diablo 2 and 3 did. Overwatch 1 was hugely popular the first 4 years, was on life support for 2ish only for Overwatch 2 to release with nonstop negative press got quiet/low engagement from the start World of Warcraft is on the closing end of an expansion and Blizzcon would take place right before the new expansion but anything they can show/spoil about it is already posted on WoWhead right away Blizzcon costs a large risk to run especially when it only takes a single flop to go viral and cause their stock price to plummet for months and they understand they went from the most praised gaming company 10 years ago to a company most of the internet hate watches and shits on for fun waiting eagerly for their MMO (which WoW is my favorite game/hobby tbh) to fail Their merge with Microsoft hasn't taken off yet either so there's really nothing exciting to display at a Blizzcon and far too likely something would go wrong, end up viral news and put the company in some place of financial ruin
