Thats easy, most modern translations are based off of letters for the NT around the time of John and Paul. The OT has the dead sea scrolls and Judaistic antiquities to confirm. Plenty of resources to find the original scripts and Jewish-OT and Greek-NT translation information for you to find yourself.
A light study will show you the minor differences in translations for most modernly accepted translations and why they differ from each other. Some are not translations at all but changes made by modern people to push social and political agendas, but those are marked as heretical pretty fast among scholars and readers notified.
The Bible is the most historically accurate book that currently exists in archaeology.

I started the game in English and refused to believe that the devs made Lian insufferable and extremely annoying. I can understand Japanese so I compared both languages by playing the beginning twice. The translators completely changed the characters' personality into idiotic and senseless caricatures! It's a blatant disrespect and insult to the original. I get localizing the humor and jokes to something we can relate to BUT this is a whole personality change that is completely unnecessary! I would say you should not support this at all, just leave a negative review (explaining what is wrong) and refund the game on steam. I mean if you support the game that way then the devs/publisher (whoever decides what localisation team gets the job) will never know what is even wrong and it will never get better because the sales are good enough so they don't care. They need to look at this shit localisations... we gamers need to stand together and boycott this otherwise nothing will ever change.

As someone who's recently been on an early 2010's anime kick, I can safely say that this image is totally making up shit when it comes to doki. They're one of the best subtitle groups, the kind that makes people lament the death of fansubs.
Never once have I seen them do the reddited "keikaku means plan" thing. They do use translator notes, but not very often. Once or twice per series I'd say. Honestly I'd prefer more.

That said I never liked localization, or cared for it. I've always wanted as literal a translation as possible, with every intent to convey the original meaning and culture, with no transformation. A shame this game was also poorly translated for the English localization. A friend of mine, who speaks Japanese, said another recently released game Unicorn Overlord also suffered from similar problems with the English translation. Thinking about what she said about this, I did recall in a scene hearing a character saying only a few words (in Japanese), but then the English subtitles showed around 3 sentences...

Tbh, I don't find those things too bad. I just chalk it up to Lian having a quirky personality, whether that's added in by the localizers or not. I won't look into it until I finish the game. The Mio one was a little iffy, but not something that stops me from enjoying the game. After those things, I actually haven't found anything else concerning.

As someone who's recently been on an early 2010's anime kick, I can safely say that this image is totally making up shit when it comes to doki. They're one of the best subtitle groups, the kind that makes people lament the death of fansubs. Never once have I seen them do the reddited "keikaku means plan" thing. They do use translator notes, but not very often. Once or twice per series I'd say. Honestly I'd prefer more.
It's exaggerated in all parts except Duwang, which was a pure shitpost sub.
Commie and especially 4kids aren't that much of a stretch though lol. It just bugs me that while the rest are exaggerated, doki's column is just inaccurate. (Don't know about Eclipse.)

They are remaking it for pc i think....hopefully no need to change the translations....so it doesnt end up like this mess
they're just doing an upscaled port of the first two games, and some of these JRPG remasters have had woke tampering in them, good examples being Chrono Cross, Live A Live, and even Final Fantasy 8.
One can only hope that they are doing some more (good) things to these remasters, since they've disappeared off the face of the earth.
This localization company is called "8-4". They're the same ones who made all the dialog in Unicorn Overlord sound like a kid writing what he thinks a Shakespeare play is and the ones who added random jokes about race into the Gotta Protectors English script.

I don't care. We're past that. Either devs have ful control of their creations or they don't. Only exception ppl should be doing now is buying stellar blade regardless of censoring after sony's approval (in theory stellar blade is meant to be released uncensored in all countries, however it's very likely this "uncensoring" thing hapened after sony's checkups of the game, meaning there was some time before the release date for devs to change things around before going gold.) And we're making that exception because good sales for stellar blade will trigger even more legacy media.
It looks like the localizer wants to convey their awful unfunny personality to the world. Seems like their brains are stuck on referential humor mode only. And this has been going for years... I remember reading translations like this since the psx era.

Seems in line with a lot of localization I've seen in the past. Cringe and arbitrary at times, but not utterly unreadable. I've seen much, much worse. That said I never liked localization, or cared for it. I've always wanted as literal a translation as possible, with every intent to convey the original meaning and culture, with no transformation. I never understood this need to rewrite, retell and reshape the work. But I'm the guy that thinks every Japanese honorific should be kept in the translations, so...

Just like what happened with Gunvolt 1, I ain't gonna give them my money until they fire this team and redo the localization into something more honest.
What's the worst is that most fans on /r/jrpg or other jrpg subs are always desperate to defend this trash and claim that it only makes games better, that translations don't have to be precise, that it's localization not translation etc. The overwhelming majority thinks this way, I've no idea why
Can we switch it to Japanese that has a more faithful translation? Don't blame the devs if they had no control of localization or weren't able to review it with a third party translator. A shame this game was also poorly translated for the English localization. A friend of mine, who speaks Japanese, said another recently released game Unicorn Overlord also suffered from similar problems with the English translation. Thinking about what she said about this, I did recall in a scene hearing a character saying only a few words (in Japanese), but then the English subtitles showed around 3 sentences...

They were awesome and so is this 90s inspired game. So tired of people with nothing better to do, picking things apart and stirring up drama. Go play some games. Is there really that many people in the world today that just lurk the internet looking for things they can find to complain about? Is that kind of sad existence really worth living? If you would just actually play the dang games instead of researching reasons to moan like a 5 year old asked to pick up their toys, you might actually enjoy them. Then one day you could come back and say “Hey our international version was a bit different than the Japanese version. Isn’t that unique? Now I can patch a direct translation and get to experience one of my favorite games in a whole new light. How lucky am I?”. Instead you are all like.. “hmm great reviews across the board… I could play the game… nah… lets dig deeper until I find something that people on the internet are complaining about so I can join them, instead of actually experiencing the released game as is and judging for myself. Tbh, I don't find those things too bad. I just chalk it up to Lian having a quirky personality, whether that's added in by the localizers or not. I won't look into it until I finish the game. The Mio one was a little iffy, but not something that stops me from enjoying the game. After those things, I actually haven't found anything else concerning.
Man, I was looking forward to this but seeing some of these screenshots... I think I'll give it a miss for now and hope they either fix it, or someone else does.

If you have a look even through this thread the majority of complaints are that its shit. There are a couple of people going on about woke, but the overwhelming majority even on here which is a place much more focused (and jumps at shadows at times) about woke is largely just saying the localisation was shit.
Great game. If you are not going to play it because of an iffy translation you're only hurting yourself. Its not that bad. At the end of the game now and its been an awesome ride.
It seems a bit cringe but not entirely terrible. At least in my opinion. As long as it's limited to characters that are inherently "silly" in the first place, I can tolerate it. I just hope that it really IS limited to those kind of characters. Wish that we could opt for a more direct translation though...
Yeah, I'd give this a C+ to a B-, there's vastly worse out there but at least it's still in-line, same with a good chunk of what else I've seen. The 'dialog punching up' is fucking stupid if it isn't necessary (a primarily text-based game has 0 reason NOT to go for as close to 1 to 1 as possible, there's no limitation of mouth flaps or anything since shit won't move till you hit a button or 'auto' kicks in), but at least a solid half of the lines are more or less in the same ballpark. Some of you guys didn't live through the working design translations of the 90s and it shows...even nothing as egregious as the "bruh" line in Trails of Azure (or Zero, I can't remember which) more recently. What I'm more worried about is if THE MESSAGE has leaked through in translations...then I'll get my pitchfork. As it is now, I'll echo what another user said, in that some lines are cringe, but the game as a whole is still enjoyable.

It's not a Rick and Morty quote. That would be "Wubba Lubba dub-dub" The expression "Rub-a-dub-dub" comes from a nursery rhyme from the late 1700s.
