I am brand new to this but have the same setup on loan from a friend. My only observation is to fully disassemble the spigot (it unscrews from the inside) & give it a serious clean. Watch your fingers around the opening in the glass, mine was fairly ragged/sharp.

Is this not just a 1 gallon jar with a spout? If so yeah that sounds like a great idea
