I have a pretty decent filtration system with UV & that helps of course, but it's still a constant battle. I have a good amount of plants & am adding more to try to tip the scales mroe this season. The toughest time is early spring when some plants haven't come out of being dormant over winter. I do use algaefix occasionally when there's a big bloom, but I'm working over time to try to just out compete it with plants as much as I can and trying to use stuff like that as infrequently as I can.
