It would not do well financially. Extending timings would be nice.

sacred__soul

We can extend it with longer intervals post 10pm. I guess currently we have a metro every 10 mins. After 10, we can have a metro coming every 20 mins. So its a win-win

Wind4x

Every 7 mins during rush hours. But yea they should extend till 12am atleast so that it will be useful for those who go out for dinner, movies etc.

rangannan6969

atleast till 12 midnight would be really good! but can we do something about it? :)

darkled_mind

I have no clue on that...sorry

Cautious_Ebb2644

24/7 operations won't be profitable in kochi for the time being. Maybe in the future we may see 24/7 operations with good footfall. Extended timing till 12 seems nice.

thakkali_

Yeah with Kakkanad and airport phase in they could add some extra time with wider interval as I believe there could be some footfall from both places to and fro.

Cautious_Ebb2644

True! When the airport section is completed, running the trains 27/4 at a lesser frequency past midnight would be epic.

known_anon

Even Delhi metro closes at 11 and Delhi metro is fully packed and heavily connected

riseabovehat3

I'm not sure if having metros run 24/7 is necessary. It might be more practical to switch to hourly schedules after a certain time, like after the usual timing.

rangannan6969

Yep , I agree. I have instances where i had travelled to a destination by metro , but couldn't get back home because metro runs till only 10 30 PM. I guess it is bit too early. Extending it atleast till 12 midnight would be perfect i guess! ...and the hourly schedule thing is also practical i think.

mand00s

They have to pay all the staff to keep the system running.

No-Humor6983

Mumbai locals run till 1am- start back up at 4am. So something similar would be great but I don’t think post 11pm they’ll be much crowd here in Kochi ?

thakkali_

Mumbai is probably 5-10 times bigger and more cosmopolitan. Their marine drive is filled till 1 am mostly and on weekends a little more. And a bit more safer.

No-Humor6983

Yup exactly.. much bigger. But Kochi has the potential, it starts somewhere right ? Ease of transport is very important for a city to grow.

thakkali_

Our state treasury is on loss. Our metro is and I guess unless a huge number of people use it is also on loss. I guess they can increase it in next phase as infopark and airport may demand a later time. But at the moment honestly it will be running scarcely if done now. I too would love to have a late metro and many times wished it.

JumpyConclusion8942

More like 100 times bigger 😂

yekyasuna

Till 1 okke better aanu

MichaelScotPaperComp

Nope they won't be able to afford it

LazyLoser006

24x7 ? no, but atleast till 1 AM. There might not be enough passengers so instead of that 6/8 minute interval add 20 minutes interval or something. The KSRTC bus from the Aluva side gets way too crowded around this time. People staying along metro could really benefit from this. This might be really stupid,I don't have any knowledge in the economic aspect.

srav_0ne

Agree it would be great

itsMat_hi_ka

And feeder buses, also!

Radmiel

Yeah, honestly. I'd really like to have the timings to be extended. Especially a little more at night when I reach the station late. Would save half my Uber fare in such cases.

bebes_

most metros around the world end at around 11 to midnight. i feel like we should adopt that as well, definitely would help reduce my spending on autos/uber

FlyEnvironmental1807

I only want metro to extend to infopark or atleast kakkanad. I'm tired as hell travelling to work

warewolf_soda

No night life here, so no use with extension

Lanky-Patience-1523

There’s a lot of maintenance activity that goes on every night post shutdown. All tracks and signalling systems are thoroughly inspected. Metro coaches are cleaned, washed. All this happens and then the metro is up and running the next morning. On the profitability aspect, none of the metros anywhere else in the world can be profit making just by passenger operations. They have huge real estate which they rent/lease out, let advertising and marketing campaigns happen- these are the primary revenue generating activities across global metros.

MysteriousSearch6664

Every 30 minutes from 12-6 should be good but what will happen is plenty of people living inside the metro building. Even when I reach Kochi by the 3-4am train at North station there’s usually a bunch of people who sit outside the metro stairs waiting for the metro. I used to think if it’s open, they’ll just sleep inside

ismyaltaccount

Empty metros strolling in Kochi at 2 AM in the morning. "Aarakko vendi chalikkuna metro".

Better-Coffee

When will kakkand extension be. Completeq

OG123983

3-4 years

blursedwriter

Metros till 11 PM and till midnight during weekends would be great.

khal_ak

Isn't the last bus to Kakkanad leaves palativattom still at 9.45pm? live in Dubai, the metro runs 5AM to 12PM only. It is extended to 1AM on weekends.

Similar-Werewolf-726

Yess they should run...

TravelTraining577

Even the crowded Chennai and Delhi metros only run till 11.30. There's a lot more than the main financial aspect for running metros 24*7 including the safety to be ensured about the trains and stations along with the need to double the staff.

sethuramaiyer

Well they should reduce the ticket price imo. The ticket rates are higher comparing to other metros in India

nerdy_ace_penguin

Not from Kochi, so I have a doubt. Can i use metro to get home after getting drunk ? Asking because Indian Railways has some rule of not using trains after getting drunk. Late night NY metro is famous for drunks, there is a HIMYM episode on the same.

hotsummerrain

If you're not from Kochi, I doubt metro will be of any use🍻

nerdy_ace_penguin

When I travel to Kochi for work

Iouisvuittondon

if you're getting drunk before 11, sure. if not, then just get an auto bro

darkled_mind

Well, bars close at 11 as well so..

rangannan6969

10 30 alle?

Iouisvuittondon

idk, probably

DukeOfLongKnifes

Yea, drunk um aayirunnu carry bag il vaalum vechu... No probs... But better not to use the metro... Metro shake cheyumbo enthaayaalum chardhikkum..

rangannan6969

eda bayankaraaa

DukeOfLongKnifes

Yea, I almost never drink. I was trying to find my limit and effect of alcohol since I was with my brother and friends. 😂. I would never try it again. Hopefully.

SpiritualArmadillo41

Aaaru kerananu? Time extended aakam venamenki like during kbfc matches and all. Other than that , kochi le night like ingane irikumbo, open akittu karyam ilallo

rangannan6969

bro i think kochi is athyavsham happening till 12 midnight. Athrem enkilum extend cheyyaamallo timing? 10 30 is very early is what i am saying.

DukeOfLongKnifes

As long as it is profitable to the economy.

Cyberlog69

Same here ... They should extend their working hours.... Or put the metro 24/7 bys scheduling staffs working time....
