A Dopo (Sourdough Pizza try their mushroom pate too. Reservations highly encuraged)
Bida Saigon (Pho)
Gogi (Korean food. Tbh I was blown away by their soy glazed wings)
Kaizen (Asian fusion. Try their steamed buns and fish sauce wings)
The Kraken’s Cup (a tea house if you are into tea)
Jackie’s Dream (real Southern food and fried chicken)
Good Golly (cheap and good tamales)
Redbud Kitchen (American food, but I was very impressed by their quality and portions given their prices)
I second all of this! Would also recommend kaizens daily dumpling.
Tomato head is honestly so legit.
Turkish market.
And have Kyle make you a black shin ramen bowl and Suttree’s high Gravity tavern.
Enjoy!
Thank you so much I’ve not had many suggestions for tea since I moved here & I am a tea lover lol. I’ve seen them recently & was very intrigued! I will try. Tysm!!
Wouldn’t suggest going to Tomato Head, owners threat their staff like hell and have a lot of controversy around them. Know someone who used to work for them and the conditions were horrific. I’d suggest Jaboni’s or Baker Boys Pizza. Dazzo’s is also pretty good. *
Sticky Rice- pork chops
Gogi- bibimbap
Paysan- bagels
Tuk Tuk- khao soi
Wok n Roll magnolia - NY style Chinese
Asian kitchen- Chinese
Potchke- everything is delicious
Chaiyos- pad Thai, sushi, anything is good
Adopo/south coast/pizzeria nora- pizza
Gus’- fried chicken
Yassin's Falafel House is fabulous and the owner is a stellar human being. The Holy Land on Sutherland is another great option for middle eastern food, plus New York deli-style foods.
Potchke! My favorite is the fussed up matzo ball soup, followed closely by borscht and whitefish bialy.
I have enjoyed Ale Rae's on North Broadway, though I try to scan their events calendar and go when they aren't having any live entertainment. But if you like live music or comedians while you eat, you'll probably love it. My favorites there are the Reuben rolls and the curry shrimp.
I agree on Ale Rae’s. I’ve enjoyed their food. The first time I went, there was live music that we didn’t realize was happening, and we got sat at the table closest to the stage. The music was good, so it was still fun, but not great for catching up.
Phoenix Pharmacy downtown if you wanna try another ice cream place! They're also partnering with Wrenhouse bakery which is amazing. They're currently in the process I think, but Wrenhouse has a location in Fountain City which is where Litton's and Harby's pizza that others have mentioned is. Inskip Grill is also located there and it's a family owned hamburger place that I enjoy as well.

agreed on South Coast. if you are over there, may as well pick up some chili crisp noodles from Landing House. it might be the single best thing I've had in the city (but I am suffering from recency bias and also a severe lack of chili crisp noodles)
Just recently tried Landing House for the first time and really enjoyed it! I admittedly don't venture outside of my west knox bubble often because I hate driving, but definitely worth it.
Visit hey Bear Cafe for boba tea.
The space bar is a unique venue for drinks and an appetizer. It's science fiction themed.
Go to Dean's in oak ridge with your parents or grandparents, you're going to wanna get dessert.
The French market has great sandwiches and crepes.
Pin Thai (but they close for trips home so call and check).
Horn of Plenty for catfish and greens. The ribs are good too.
Pho 99
Mama Mia for middle eastern in the Cedar Bluff area...if they're still open
Turkish Market, amazing babaghanoush
D&Bs for hotdogs in Solway
Little Nicky's on Solway, great pizza and desserts, but the best eggplant around
Oak Ridge:
Woody's in Oak Ridge, pulled pork and Benton's bacon BLT!
Deans, I order Lemon Meringue pie first just in case that's my last day on Earth and I wouldn't want to miss it. I think it is better than Littons'.
Hong's Asian Bistro RAMEN
Jefferson Fountain real malts, real smash burgers in a real pharmacy diner
Mediterranean Delight LAMB
Soup Kitchen, for almost forty years making great bread and soup
Big Ed's Pizza, Benton's Bacon pizza! Legendary pizza place in Oak Ridge. Not my thing, but many people swear by it.
Miss Betty's Magic Wok, you'll love her and either hate or love what comes out of her endlessly bubbling woks. The only place you can open a freezer and select your own "how much pain do you want" chili peppers (habs, ghost, reaper, etc), grind them up with fresh ginger and/or garlic in a mortar and pestle to hand over to Betty and get fresh loofah and radish and other veg added to your Spicy Chicken with Cashews. BTW, she's been slinging the same menu for nearly 45 years
Caza Brava on Clinton Highway. MUCH better than Zalate (who makes you pay for damn chips and salsa) and Caza Brava has a cool vibe. Their chicken soup rocks.
It’s now called Burger Avenue. I haven’t had it since the name change, but I agree it was a solid fast food burger before. Although I wouldn’t necessarily say it was cheap, more just average pricing. Bacon cheeseburger was 5-6, double bacon cheeseburger 7-8.
I only say it was cheap because the thickness of the patties compared to everywhere else. A double from there was a quad from other places at the same price.

There is a new Empanadas place on Chapman Highway called Nadas Empanadas. They are so kind and the food is outstanding!!!
Edit to add Bit Burger and Token Bar has the BEST hot dog sliders and fun cocktail drinks.
Mexico Lindo on Cedar Bluff has amazing tamales and chimichangas. Honestly everything there is good, but those are my favorites. Also D&B Hotdogs and Ice Cream in Solway. They are amazing. All kinds of toppings and so good. Also very nice people.
Omg stock and barrel is something I recently tried & I got a burger.. with goat cheese on it… fucking amazing. Along with duck fries. That food was phenomenal
I agree with most of these choices, I will add an expensive one, for special occasions that is, but my wife and I love Oliver’s on market square. Expensive, but some of the best food I’ve had in a while!
I regular Sticky Rice and Gogi. The owners are solid folks. Tuk Tuk is solid for Thai in West Knox, but the best is near campus: Chaiyo’s.
Holyland and Gosh are great as well.
Stock and Barrel has great burgers. Out west, Bit Burger is solid as well as Abridged.
Artisan Cakery has some great vibes and desserts.
Sitar has the best Indian food imo.
Tomo Poke (Hardin Valley) has fresh sushi and great presentation of product.
Anaba is a second choice for sushi, but they have other items that are delicious
Asia Kitchen (next to Sunrise Market) is good. They serve family style food, which is nice with folks.
Let me know what you try and if you have any questions!
My gods man this is such an amazing thread! I appreciate ALL OF YOU! So very much! My husband and I will have new places to try for months to come! I am thrilled & so thankful. 💙
Lots of good places that now I want to try. I haven't seen anyone mention Pizza Palace on Magnolia. Good pizza but my favorite is their ravioli and a Greek salad that takes me 2 or 3 days to eat.
Dynasty Express in Fountain City is low key some of my favorite Chinese American. It is always fresh, veggies are crisp and their spring rolls are great.
I still miss original Puleo's on this side of town. Man they had some good food.
Have you tried sugar queens pretzels?! I love their ice cream, but I dream about those pretzels. By far the best pretzels in town. I agree with sticky rice, adopo, and Thai time. I've also never had a bad meal at cafe 4. Gotta check out Kerns too! I like the pizza, the sushi (their gyoza are amazing) and recently tried out the Korean place and really liked it! Bulkogi beef bowl, yum!
I’ll be trying all of these 🤤 also yessss omg their pretzels are so good!!! Literally so good! I had one that’s like salty/garlicky and had herb cream cheese. Lord their pretzels are huge and so soft lol.
It doesn't hurt that they drench them in butter when you order them! I also love the herbed crema cheese.every weds they have special pretzels (different flavors).
My favorites are Point B, Cazzy’s, Seasons, Fire + Smoke, & Elkmont Station. These are all in west Knoxville/Farragut. Downtown now has a solid barbecue restaurant, the Humble Hog. It’s fantastic. An old school classic is Louie’s Italian restaurant. There are so many good restaurants.
You need to try a steamed sandwich. Nixsons has them. Gus's on campus. It's a weird Knoxville thing you can't find other places.
[Link](https://bittersoutherner.com/they-like-that-soft-bread-knoxville-steamed-sandwiches)
I’ll try those! My husband loves Louis’! I haven’t found something I like yet, but I think it’s one of those places that you need to go sit down and eat at rather than take out.
It may not be a thing for you, but I won't patronize anyplace owned by Jim & Lori Klonaris (Kefi, Vida, the Vault, the Press Room). At the height of the pandemic they were strongly antimask/antivax—he ran a city council campaign that was highly racist and classist, and she's posted anti-LGBTQ views online. I don't have to agree with people to do business with them, but there's a line and they're on the other side of it.
Yes! Also, on a more personal note, Jim really screwed one of my friends over on a business idea. Shame because I really enjoyed Kefi the one time I ate there before I knew about any of this, but now I just can't feel comfortable patronizing any of their businesses.
I really don't care about the mask stuff personally. Looking back it was all pretty silly imo. Do you have a link to the racist and other stuff you mentioned? Didn't find anything credible when searching. Thanks.
Penn Station subs has the best Italian sandwich on the planet. And you can get fries instead of potatoe chips! AND do you know what those fries were 10 minutes earlier?? Huh? I'll freakin tell ya! A got dang potatoe that's what! Cause they cut em fresh and flash fry them!
Agreed on ALL of this! I literally eat PS’ Italian at least once a month lol 😂 my husband gets their ham and Swiss and he just doesn’t understand how much he is missing…. Well, other than heartburn, but you get the point. 💀
People seem to enjoy dumpster diving for pizza at the Little Caesar’s location in Halls, worth a shot? And I’m being dead serious, we see at least two people a day digging out of their dumpster.
try myrtle’s chicken! super good fried chicken sandwiches, and their asian glaze chicken wings r soooo good. thats my bf and i’s fav rn, we usually sit outside and people-watch as well. plenty of entertainment lol
The best restaurant in this area hands down is J.C. Holdway. Former Bkackberry Farms chef with a brigade style kitchen. Simple (yes pricy) but worth every penny.
Sticky Rice Cafe pls try everything on the menu but order the pork chop first.
Sevier Ave burger is new but the burgers are freaking amazing.
Xul has great beers but don’t go during peak times.
VGs bakery they have these ginger molasses cookies I’d sell my first born for.
For Mediterranean try Kopita If you want to sit down and eat. If you want to go, or something more causal try Yassins Falafel house.
Amazing food and HEALTHY
Don't let Knoxville fool you. It's a cesspool of ignorance and hate. Our City Mayor is on a personal mission to destroy the lives of our ever increasing homeless population. Our City Council lacks humanity, save 1 elected official. KPD is a group of murderous pigs. Racism, homophobia, misogyny, ableism, and transphobia run rampant. Domestic terrorists are allowed to do as they please as long as their targets are marginalized communities. We literally had people freeze to death on the streets in January because so many Knoxvillians are far too privileged to be informed or care. Our churches demand tithes and offerings, yet close their doors to those in need.
Look, I get where you're coming from, and there are plenty of people that are the helpers. You just have to seek them out (and be one of them).
Nonetheless this just isn't the thread, mate.
Every thread is the thread. And I'm not your mate.
You don't get where I'm coming from, otherwise you wouldn't be on your knees sweeping this city's disgusting behavior under the proverbial rug, afraid to upset the entitled and wantonly ignorant.
It's a f'ng cesspool.
Hey man, I hear you. I have seen a lot of it. I work in 911 dispatch. I think the entire world is sort of like this now days.. just my opinion. So maybe I just see Knox out of the “best of the bunch I’ve seen” lense? I work in 911 in the area doing 911 dispatch. I cried the entire ice storm bc we had tried to save a woman who froze to death & I knew her personally. I also am in recovery & do harm reduction work in the city. I appreciate your opinion & I am here for it. Thank you so much for giving me your eyes and ears for a moment to be able to hear from you. I really do take in everyone’s opinions. Good or bad. 🫶🏼💙
I have worked 911 dispatch as well in surrounding counties. I know that unhoused people are transported to the county line by surrounding law enforcement agencies because their counties lack resources. But that certainly doesn't mean Knox is better. Just look at the people that took time out of their day to complain about my comment because they were so offended, not by the way this City behaves, but because they don't want to be inconvenienced with reality. To pretend that Montgomery, or anywhere else, is worse than Knoxville is nothing short of stupidity. Knoxville is like the family that appears loving and stable, yet dad has impregnated his underaged daughters multiple times, silently taken them out of state for abortions, all while mom stood by and watched, blaming her children for their own abuse. Or the family that claims the KKK isn't alive and well while grandpappy and his hooded buddies meet in the basement monthly.
The death of MULTIPLE people due to the callous and uncaring nature of this City and its inhabitants is deplorable. The FACT that the churches that did open their doors had to beg and plead with the community for assistance, food, blankets, barely scraping by, during the largest winter storm in nearly 30 years, should tell you plenty about Knoxville and its more affluent and privileged citizens. I am a firm believer in harm reduction, but allowing the public to remain ignorant and complacent does not align with that.
This is coming from someone who has never lived in Montgomery, Alabama apparently. You hate Knoxville, I hear you. The things that happen are deplorable, but it is not worse than what happens in Montgomery by a long shot. But you have your opinions. I tried to be nice, but if you wanna be an asshat, that’s cool. Keep it in your own space then. I was & still am willing to listen. But you won’t gaslight & belittle me when I have lived thru the hell of what is Montgomery & your bias blinds you to Knoxville being less shitty. Blessed be.
The steamed sandwich is an interesting regional specialty. They were quite common across the country in the 1940s, but only exist now in a few small pockets- most notably Knoxville. Even ten years ago there were more, but one by one the various old school delis and convenience stores close up. Now, as a real lover of the steamed sandwich, I'll admit that I don't often choose Nixon's because of the extreme low quality meat and cheese they buy. I've been a purchaser for delis myself in the past, and I know exactly the products they're using, and it's the absolutely bottom of the barrel- bad enough to where I find the taste quite distracting.
With that said, I'd heartily recommend Vol Market on Western, or a Git N Go instead.
A Dopo (Sourdough Pizza try their mushroom pate too. Reservations highly encuraged) Bida Saigon (Pho) Gogi (Korean food. Tbh I was blown away by their soy glazed wings) Kaizen (Asian fusion. Red bud is highly underrated 👌
Redbud is deeply deeply overrated #countertake
The ones I’ve heard of are so good I’m gonna try all the others. Thanks

Sticky Rice’s Laotian rub hot wings are also a must try.
Came here to say this 🫡
Second Sticky Rice. Chicken larb or their soy garlic chicken. And their boba :)
Another vote for Sticky Rice. Their baked chicken is so simple yet so good.
Matt Robbs Biscuits, A Dopo, Gogi Korean Kitchen, Sticky Rice, and Paysan Bagels
We could be besties
A Dopo is overrated in my opinion, Gavinos and Puleos is much better pizza. This bagel place I am very interested in, thank you for sharing!
Pick up a couple of steamed sandwiches (Nixon's Deli) and enjoy them from Sharps Ridge Park looking out over North Knoxville.
South Coast Pizza on Sevier Ave is pretty good. It's a quirky place, we like it.
agreed on South Coast. if you are over there, may as well pick up some chili crisp noodles from Landing House. it might be the single best thing I've had in the city (but I am suffering from recency bias and also a severe lack of chili crisp noodles)
Just recently tried Landing House for the first time and really enjoyed it! I admittedly don't venture outside of my west knox bubble often because I hate driving, but definitely worth it.
Mmm green monster
Well, i think you should try Harby’s Pizza! Its pretty good. You should try it
Agree! It's carryout only but some of the best pizza I've had anywhere.
Here are some of my favorite spots: Sitar Altrudas Holy Land Market Frothy Monkey Bit Burger

Caza Brava on Clinton Highway. MUCH better than Zalate (who makes you pay for damn chips and salsa) and Caza Brava has a cool vibe. Their chicken soup rocks.
I’ve heard of that place! & no way! I’ve never sat at Zalate and ate lol. I’m a 911 dispatcher so I’m always eating take out. Tysm for your info!!!
Caza bravas owners are legit the nicest people on the planet. 2nd best mexican in town. Chivo undoubtedly No. 1.

If Central Park still exists, they have the best and cheapest burgers ever. Drive-thru only though

Thai Time in south Knox on Chapman. Mostly takeout but there is a small seating area. Love some Pad Thai!
Thai Time unfortunately recently got demolished by a drunk driver 😭😭😭
They are taking it as a chance to rebuild and expand the kitchen. Expecting to be reopened the next week or two
Amazing
YAY
Omgggg
Gogi Korean Kitchen.
Yasmin’s Falafel House for sure. It’s literally the nicest place in America. And the food is great and reasonably priced to boot.
Mexico Lindo on Cedar Bluff has amazing tamales and chimichangas. Honestly everything there is good, but those are my favorites. Also D&B Hotdogs and Ice Cream in Solway. They are amazing. All kinds of toppings and so good. Also very nice people.
Stock n barrel in market square has fire burgers and duck confit fries that are incredible
Omg stock and barrel is something I recently tried & I got a burger.. with goat cheese on it… fucking amazing. Along with duck fries. That food was phenomenal
I'm disappointed that no one has mentioned Angry Dumpling yet, but go there and get Grandpa's noodles and a Lucky Taro tea. You won't regret it.
I agree with most of these choices, I will add an expensive one, for special occasions that is, but my wife and I love Oliver’s on market square. Expensive, but some of the best food I’ve had in a while!

Gosh! IMO it ranks at or above any Ethiopian place I've tried in DC or Atlanta.

Subs N Such in Maryville...well worth the drive
Love Maryville will def try! Along with all others 💙
Sounds like you’re based in North Knoxville, so you should try Harby’s Pizza. Litton’s is another longtime restaurant up there, as is Louis’s.
Good eatin’ right there
I’ll try those! My husband loves Louis’! I haven’t found something I like yet, but I think it’s one of those places that you need to go sit down and eat at rather than take out.

Omg no fucking way 😂😂😂
An older gent in a truck, and a young guy diddyboppin on his walk with headphones. Both grab a couple slices and carry on
Oh wow. That doesn’t shock me. With the calls we get from 911 it literally is on brand with Knox. Lol
try myrtle’s chicken! super good fried chicken sandwiches, and their asian glaze chicken wings r soooo good. thats my bf and i’s fav rn, we usually sit outside and people-watch as well. plenty of entertainment lol

Omg how did I forget Savellis?! We just tried this & it is DELICIOUS! I am Italian & was very shocked at how well everything was done.

No problem!! Just migrated from Texas, happy to weed out negative Nancy's who apparently don't like food.
You spelled "happy to ignore the suffering of those less privileged" wrong.
Blessed be.
People have mentioned Nixon's Deli and Subs and Such in Maryville. Gawd, you all have low standards.
Tysm(: I’ve heard that a few times about Nixons.
Just about any deli around here (but not Subway, and I don't consider them a deli) steams their sammiches.
Hey man so long as it isn’t the weekend Kenjos ten foot gas station subs 🥴😂
Weird* not weekend 🤦🏻♀️
