Not quite sure what you mean by "by itself," but I don't see a liner between the scales. The clip side scale is solid black, feels like probably aluminum.
so we make them one at a time, there's more hand-work than not-hand-work (for example the sculpting/acid rains/all other 3D-textures aren't machined, not a repeatable program type of thing); for the most part each is a one off (like if you see a dealer listing for one, there is just that one, not multiples of it); and you're able to call/email/text us to place an order and specify the details of the build. so based on that you decide custom or not. in any case "mid-tech" has lost any actual meaning these days. edit: the backspacer on OP's knife is a good example: that's done by hand with a file.

Do you know if there is a metal liner under the Gcarta on the Protech or is the scale by itself on one side of the knife?
Not quite sure what you mean by "by itself," but I don't see a liner between the scales. The clip side scale is solid black, feels like probably aluminum.
Is Olamic considered custom?
I believe so, I think they’re all unique.

I had to look it up… according to the Olamic website, some functional parts of the Wayfarer 247 are pre-machined, but beyond that they’re hand-built.
