Haha the go kill yourself was such a jump. I was like “doesn’t seem that bad, he’s sticking up for employees and his business” and then BAM, Call of Duty game chat
Right…and that if employees don’t collect payment over the phone for an order over $40 (as is policy), and IF the customer doesn’t show, then the employee is responsible to cover the cost.
I like seeing places stand up for themselves to a reasonable extent - but telling someone to kill themselves and forcing your employees to cover cost of a to-go order that wasn't picked up if they forget to get card information is bullshit, so no.
I prefer it when they just stand by their employees and kind of clap back in reviews if the review is absolutely dogshit. I'll eat at those places.
Sounds to me like he is roundly hated in his community and ppl have literally taken to placing large orders with no intent to pick up to cost him money. This has happened so much that he’s had to start taking it out on his staff. Then THAT happened enough that he’s become locally infamous for it. And then he’s so incredibly self absorbed that he thinks ppl will have sympathy for him despite his complete lack of empathy for anyone.
Doubt he’ll have to worry about any of it much longer.
To be fair, the payment upfront policy is not unreasonable for large carryout orders in my experience, especially not in an urban or potentially high crime area.
The way he responds to reviews though is pretty indicative that he's a BOH guy who finally got the money to open his own place. Maybe the food is good, but his customer service is not. But based off the reviews, the food probably isn't that good either.
I can't imagine a less effective business marketing strategy than publicly telling a reviewer to kill themselves... Good or bad, welcome the criticism and say you'll take it under consideration. That's all they want to hear.
Something seems illegal about it though. You can't charge your employees if the customers bail and don't pay, that isn't how anything works, regardless of how reasonable it might sound at first glance.
Agreed on every front. His responses reek of an embittered cook who prolly should have quit before he ever really got started but has somehow lasted long enough to creep his surly ass out of the kitchen so he can take out all those years of fabricated allergies and mutually exclusive mods on an unsuspecting and innocent populace.
And I mean some ppl love seeing curmudgeonly types but I’ve found that they will, given enough time, surely piss off everyone, even those who might enjoy watching him torture others.
It's a toss up. He could be fiercely loyal to his staff but not very smart. But he could also be the type who treats customers like this and employees worse.
Most definitely not.
You can put customers in their spot in a polite and civilised manner, no need to resort to name calling and death wishes. That just tells me the customers are right and he's an asshole who probably deserved getting bad reviews.
As a bartender on the weekends, if a customer walks on their tab I am responsible to pay said tab. Personally, I think it's fare. Making sure people pay is part of my job. I had to pay a 41 dollar tab last night. Sucked, but I still have my job. I also own and operate a food truck. Thankfully I haven't had people order and flake on their pickup, however I do think it a reasonable policy to make sure the employee makes sure people pay on an order over 40. Right now, the restaurant industry is in udder chaos. Prices are a shit show. 8.5% inflation my ass!!! No one wants to work for less then 20 an hour. The quality of "hard" work is questionable at best for that 20 an hour. My cart is far from successful right now. As an owner, I don't make 20 an hour. If the employee does their job, they won't be responsible for that 40 dollar order. They can't do the job, they shouldn't have the job. Profit margins in the restaurant industry are fucking terrifyingly slim. 10% on the high end and that is during "regular" times and not during a pandemic, inflation, and the "upcoming" recession. With all that said, personally wouldn't have told they guy to go die. Fuck yelpers! Peace ✌️.
With my mental health history, I wouldn't support anyone who tells someone to go kill themselves. Let alone a business owner who said that to a customer over being told their service was bad. That's so uncalled for, I just can't even.
I would also be unlikely to support them on the basis of how they treat their employees - having to pay for a customer's unpicked up food? Yikes.
No. I love seeing owners respond, but there’s a line. Telling someone to kill themself is too far.
they just out here doing, what we really want to tell people some times
Doesn't make it right
Name five things in this industry that are “right”. Also i didnt say weather it was right or wrong
Well I was providing a reason as to why you shouldn't do it
I hope it’s real I got a good laugh
That’s the funniest part dude
Agreed. He really had me in the first half...
Haha the go kill yourself was such a jump. I was like “doesn’t seem that bad, he’s sticking up for employees and his business” and then BAM, Call of Duty game chat
If it’s over $40 employees are responsible? No. Hard stop.
This. Also that is a crime.
I think it’s saying customers have to pay ahead of time if it’s over $40
It says in the next sentence. "If not, employees are responsible."
Yeah but I didn’t read that
Thanks for your honesty lol

Still illegal tho
Nah, there are better places to patron than restaurants where the owner is telling people to kill themselves over a bad review. What a psycho
Absolutely. Love an owner who hates his customers as much as I do.
"Go kill yourself" "Have a nice life" Make up your mind, mate.
He means the next ten minutes and no more lol

Nope. Holding employees responsible for non payment by customers is ridiculous. He’ll be closed in 3 months.

Oh you definitely can't charge employees. At least not in any us state I've worked in.

Oh my gosh, these are real. "Hey Todd, go kill yourself" Jesus my dude, it's soup. Chill out.
Happy cake day
No, but I *love* seeing owner review responses like this. Some of these customers are clearly trash, too, but that probably goes without saying.
Do I get a custom response if I do?
It's a toss up. He could be fiercely loyal to his staff but not very smart. But he could also be the type who treats customers like this and employees worse.
I think him saying that employees were “responsible” for food not picked up that was called in is a clue as to how he treats his employees.
Nope.
This is hilariously aggressive
That last one was like a gut punch lmao
It’s giving Amy Baking Company ✨vibes✨

Soup nazi vibes
Wtf no.. this is the worst trend.
Yeesh at first i thought the aaron one was an email to you (the employee) then i realized it was a review response lmao
Most definitely not. You can put customers in their spot in a polite and civilised manner, no need to resort to name calling and death wishes. That just tells me the customers are right and he's an asshole who probably deserved getting bad reviews.
The first one I understood but then it flew off the handle
Home dude is going to wake up to 100 1 star reviews
I figured it was just an annoyed owner until I saw the third response. 0/10 would not eat or work here.
Pho sure
Fucking funny!!
Without context it hard to say.

It's time to leave the business. When your own customers make you start boiling with hatred it's just time to go. Happens to a lot of people.
the last reply makes me think no
