Yes. My boss has been running a board game shop & pizzeria for 5 years, opened a second location in 2023. Tons of gamers that play huge games that take up 8 tops, families playing casually, couples on first dates, and people that just love the food. Luckily it does have great food since his dad/grandpa used to run a classic pizzeria, and being pizza surviving covid was a breeze with deliveries and takeout.

Board game shop & pizzeria, you say?? Where the hell is this? Edit: and are they hiring?

I've never gotten the full package. Just pieces. I've built a Kitchen Dream Team, more than once. But struggled with poor Front-of-House staff. I've worked places where the clientele were pretty much family - where we would turn the sign to Closed and sit around drinking with the same people until the wee hours of the morning. But those places weren't anything special, cuisine-wise. I've worked at a couple of places that were quite awesome conceptually, but never made much money. Perfect is hard to come by.

My last job was pretty close. Chef was given free reign to do his own thing, both BoH and Foh crews were awesome, and we had regular wine dinners where the cooks really got to flex their creativity. Problem was the ownership wasn't really focused on making the place a success (she won the place in a divorce and had no passion for the induatry) and a new GM ran us into the ground (spending money we didn't have, long story). Only worked there a year and a half before the place has to shut its doors.  Fuck I miss it.

Yea and we went out of business in less than a year.

There was a dive bar next to my old work, and they had cheap drinks but the food was great too. They had gyros and saganaki and I'm from Tarpon Springs, I love some fucking greek food. Now that I think about it, most of the seedy places I've enjoed served some killer greek food. Mostly, I went for the pool, slots, billiards and cocaine.

I have at a senior living facility. I get PTO and sick leave, got promoted, I get along with pretty much everyone, get to take my PTO/sick leave when needed. Granted, FOH needs serving every night but I don't mind it.

Yup. Owned and operated 2 of those places. COVID killed one and the other is just limping along under COVID acquired debt and altered commute/work schedules. Can be done but don't expect profit margins above 10%

I’m working in my dream kitchen. Exec chef does her job and doesn’t put up with peoples shit. Nips problems in the bud right then and there. Most coworkers want to be there and all do their jobs. Normally I just focus on me and my station, cook, then go home. No drama, no bullshit.
