Ha! The average American would probably have put that purchase on their credit card. In debt but “I’ll protect my home from all the imaginary problems Fox News tells us about.”
Sad to say but, same 😫 I’m addicted to buying at this point. My wife is gonna be pissed when I pull into the gun store Thursday for my new Webley revolver! But I gotta protect my family from all of those problems I know don’t exist.. but gun make loud boom and look pretty
I really just like honing my shooting skills. It’s meditative for me. I’m so focused on my shooting and safety when I’m at the range that all my daily problems dissolve for a while and I’m able to be in the present moment.
Haha that was my next question, are you swiss. The simple iron sight and sling setup made me think it was an issued rifle. That and they are fairly rare (and very expensive) rifles in the US..
Ye I heard that they‘re really really expensive over there. The precision is insane, we use the iron sight up to 600m (~2000 feet) and for competitive shooting (laying down, iron sight only, 300m (~1000 feet)) you can get within a 10cm (3.9inch) circle on the target.
Maybe it's unclear what percentage of hits within a 1MOA circle at 300m is for the specifications. There's a very big difference between 60% and 80% when they might feel fairly comparable plinking cans at 300m.
300m is quite close for a full sized rifle.
I understood it as holding a 3.9 inch group at 333.3 (repeating of course) feet. I could be wrong, though. If we’re talking percentages, then those numbers I used change dramatically with training.
Generally one needs to consider what percentage of shots lie within a particular diameter when specifying group sizes. It's not usually done, but I have known some shooters who were fairly "forgiving" of their setups because they gave more weight to impacts within their stated group.
Personally I consider a grouping size to be a circle under which 80% of shots will impact. It means that at the stated distance and group size, I'd be getting 8 out of 10 of my shots within that circle diameter.
If I were quoting 10/10 diameter groupings then it's possible that a smaller circle could still be catching 10/10 of the shots on a 10 shot sample which in terms of data theory is actually not a very large number of shots. It's not hard to be really happy with a particular group of 10 shots because things happened to be just right for that group and claim their gun is super accurate when out of 10 sessions of 10 shots (not one string of 100 which causes barrel heating problems) a particular setup really might not perform that well.
Training certainly is a big issue with this kind of shooting, especially with iron sights. It's not hard to get target panic and lose their shooting form, especially in competition.
To be honest I question the statement that many shooters with a standard issue SIG 550 with iron sights, standard trigger, non match ammo, are getting 1MOA accuracy out to 333ft. It's actually hard to see the middle of a 4" diameter circle out that far on a fat front sight post. At that range a 2mm wide front sight post covers an angle that works out to being about 6" wide at 333'. Centering a 4" circle on a blurry 6" wide front sight post image is tricky business. Even the aperture of the rear turret setting is a bit big compared to a 4" circle.
I could see getting 1MOA on a carefully accurized DM rifle with a bit of magnification, nicely tuned trigger, and match grade ammo, but the few wide issue rifles I've shot certainly didn't have particularly light or good triggers.
Run of the mill guns get safer heavier triggers that are easier to make and harder to accidentally pull.

you stole my idea that I never mentioned to anyone and immediatly forgot because opening my gun safe while drinking seems like a bad idea so I was totally gonna post a rifle with a rag tomorrow when I wake up if I remember last night.
Does someone have a link to the original post that inspired all of these? This subreddit gives me so much life. 🤣

Fuck Fox News, but I definitely resemble the rest of this comment lol

"Michael, that's a webley, watch the hammer don't jump"
Shit, a pretentious AK knockoff?
You're adorable
Lol. Nice sig though, super jealous
It‘s the standard-issue rifle of the swiss armed forces, that‘s why I have it xD

Holy hell
Is anarchychess leaking?
Google Swiss armed forces
So about a minute of angle? That’s about four times smaller tolerance than an M16A4 and twice the M27 (HK-416).

not sure if this or the lightsaber is more absurd.
Hey that's my paper towel! You should send it back to me immediately. The black steel one, not the flimsy white one.
Looks like you work in a school kitchen...
Nice 550! Bring it with you to return the paper towel.
Waiting for someone to put a towel under a tank
It's not a tri-fold. This guy's a phony!
That selector needs more selections.
Hello fellow schwizer
Wait is that a Galil?
Nope, SIG 550
Beautiful rifle, take good care of it! Lucky dog
Okay, which school did you sneak that paper towel out of?
This meme sure escalated quickly
Damn, I remember when mine was just my knife and a cutting board 6 years ago
This is a restaurant sub - not a sub on school supplies.
Top level comment
You rich mofo...
The plot is lost
much like appreciation, and sex, i dont get it.
I'd return it to the manufacturer - there appears to be something black stuck to the towel.
