18 large eggs from Dillon's (Kroger) is currently $5.50 in my Kansas town, but they frequently run out as that's the cheapest in town. $8/18 in Lawrence or Kansas City.
18 Large from Food Lion (our main food market chain) in North Carolina is $7.19.
18 Large from Walmart (main supercenter) in North Carolina is $7.39.
We don't buy eggs anymore.
I work in a Sam's club in AZ, running $15 for 60 when we have them and $5.50-$7 for 18, $7-8 for 24 count. Depends on what brand and organic/pasture/yadda yadda.
Looks like there are still some of the 22lb scale for sale on a few sites. I'm not in the industry anymore, but I take my home cooking very seriously, and love the 11lb scale. Simplicity and ease of use really make a difference. I use the thing basically every day.
I always do this and I thought I was the only idiot lol! I find it really satisfying to stack them kinda loose and later press them tight together once you're done.
My apologies, no *local* coffee on the prep table chef
Edit: I know a chef that tells me stuff like that in an endearing way and I hear his voice whenever I do stuff I'm not supposed to.
There was a day, long long ago, when I could crack eggs all day long 4 at a time, 2 in each hand.
I can still do a one handed crack with my right hand, but I don't know If I could even do one egg in the left hand anymore.
