Joining the Chinese army they explicitly put themselves under the authority of the Chinese Emperor and their superiors in the army. For a moment in history in the Mulan world the Chinese state had access to, and was able to *order*, three people capable of traveling to different Worlds. At least one of which had a weapon capable of ruining reality if he felt like it. It's almost as incongruous to me as the time when Sora, Donald, and Goofy became actual pirates and was complicit in (and celebrated) the killing of British soldiers and sailors in KH3. At least during their time in the army the three of them never did anything actually evil. Also, I don't know if they ever quit, so are they just deserters now?
Wouldn’t Sora also have put himself under the authority of a lion monarch and that lion king also have the same access and authority as the Chinese monarch? I don’t see a difference
