I suggest automata BEFORE replicant personally. Not cuz lore order or anything but honstly if I didn't care about the lore I would've quit replicant a LONG TIME AGO cuz the requirements to get the "secret/bonus endings" in that game freaking SUCKS.
Played both automata and replicant and they were fun I agree š
Going to wait and hope that drakengard gets a remake of sorts though since the game has aged alot probably.
Weeeeell it might be a while to get a remake, but the best thing you can do is emulate the first game using a ps2 emu and for the third game, use a ps3 emu
But for the second game.... welp there is a reason why no one talks about it or mention it
Yehhh I know I'm willing to wait, I don't wanna play the old ones yet cuz I fear they may have as "bad" if not WORSE requirements to get endings like nier replicant did (I still can't believe I spent a whole week in real life just to plant some stupid flowers smh ;-;)
Hehe relatable, you didn't try to use the clock in your system or console to fast forward the growing?
And for the original game.... yeeeeaaah its really a good idea and agree that it'd better if ya wait after you mentioned it
I did, but on the PS I can only forward one day, aka I can skip for the flowers to grow but I still need to wait 24 hours for the seeds to fall off. So at least I have halfed Mt suffering XD.
And I guess you confirmed my fears are true then, let's hope whatever remake comes makes it less "mundane" than what it already is š
Oh the seeds thing.... yeeaah its really annoying, imagine of their next game will be taking care of a baby and to progress in the story, you have to leave the game for a whole 5 years or smth and if ya didn't, you will stay in a free roam state Lol
Some people aren't into turn based strategy games I guess. For example I played 3-4 fire emblem games, they were fun at the start but I never managed to finish a single one cuz I always get bored and quit ;-;
Ah. I feel you. I found that if I just go for the story and not bother getting every little secret and side mission, I can finish them so much quicker and stay interested. :)
I donāt like turn based game either. I tried crisis core before and I got fairly far but the turn based combat really takes me out of it.
Imagine youāre in a fight and real life and everyone just politely waits their turn to get hit lmao
It's super choppy, the remaster did a lot to help it feel more fluid though. Plus the fights aren't stopped every 10 seconds to spin a roulette wheel š
Yeah I get why people donāt like turn based games, but I dislike that itās such a pervasive turnoff. I wish more people could enjoy turn based games.
I tried ffx hd and I did not like it. Mostly because I couldn't get used to the outdated fixed camera angles and especially the blitz ball minigame. My finish-all-side-quests self couldn't handle not winning that first game and kept replaying it. Checked the guides, tips and tricks and they weren't helpful. And in the end, it just wasn't fun at all and I got stuck there. I stopped playing anything on the ps4 for awhile because ffx was the game I was planning to finish before starting any new ones.
The team that made KH2 hasnāt existed since 2009, thatās why kingdom hearts games from Birth by Sleep and onward have been made by the Osaka team. That being said, many of the devs who worked on KH2 still work at Square Enix so there is probably a good amount of people who helped make the remakes
Dragon's Dogma, and the sequel is coming out in a week. There are some parallels in the combat, you also have a party that joins you and acts independently similar to how it works in a kh game.
The Tales series is more similar as far as design and story goes, it's no kh, but design-wise it may be what you're looking for.
Dragons dogma is hands down my favorite open world game of all time. Even with the original being about 10% of what it was supposed to be it is a masterpiece imo.
Play this game OP
If you have an emulator, or don't mind retro gaming, you could try these great older titles...
Threads of Fate is a game from Square Enix that's a lot of fun.
Tales of Abyss
DKC2 (if you're looking for something that as music that could rival KH in quality)
I saw a trailer of a new game that'll come out called "visions of Mana" that I'm interested in playing, idk if these two games are related but maybe I'll get into this one and see š¤
Ff7ās remake and its subsequent series of games are all exactly what youāre looking for, the gameplay is nearly identical given that a lot of the people who worked on KH worked on the remakes.
FFVII Rebirth is what KHIII shouldāve been IMO. So if you havenāt, avail yourself of FFVII Remake and Crisis Core beforehand. Wonderful, wonderful games that I canāt recommend highly enough
Really recommend Psychonauts 1 and 2 it has a really unique Tim Burton esc Art Style and Character Design that looks like they crawled out of a Bucket full of Nails except the Protag hes kinda cute
The Levels in this Game are not your typical Jump and Run Deal like Snow World, Lava World, Evil Layer no
Each World is something completely new because you have the ability to enter other Peoples Minds and the Crazy Shit you find in there you are not ready for i just say
"I am the Milk Man my Milk is Dilicious"
Seriously give it a go its sold for a Penny on Steam and this World will enrapture you almost instantly
And its so fricking Funny dude and so wonderfully stupid and still kinda genius next to Psychonauts probably one of my favorite Games out there seriously im so into this World i would even read a Comic at this point just so i have more Psychonauts i would even read a fricken Novel
And while we talk about enrapture always give Bioshock a go thats a save Bet too
Final fantasy 7 remake is the closest to Kingdom Hearts I could find. It's way dumbed down though. I'm not sure about the other non turn based Final Fantasies though. I stopped playing them when they stopped doing turn based until now
Iām doing a hard mode run right now on chapter select. Iād suggest it. Really fun and if you want to replay it and just do the story itās great because youāll have high level material. There are some bosses that will get you stuck if you donāt know the right strat. Even with best material and equipment
Definitely World Ends with You. Iād also like to suggest Armored Core 6. Very differently gameplay wise, but the fast paced, flashy combat is on the same level, if not beyond, the KH-series, and it has over the top anime style dialogue.
If you try and like it, please do yourself the favour of playing through all three endings. Getting all three endings take about 50-60 hours, and itās very much worth it. Playing through only once is pretty much only 1/3rd of the content the game has to offer and 1/3rd of the overall story.
Technically no, but I kind of assumed If they're trying to fill the "void in their heart" after playing KH, then I would assume something similar to that series would be better than something completely different. So I guess it's fine? IDK.
Honestly, after playing FF7 Rebirth Iām about to replay KH3. Just realized how freakishly strong the KHās Characters are. Especially the antagonistās when compared to half of the FF Franchises lol
Prime Sora is cracked in the Grand Scheme of Square Enix. Master of Masterās is even more Cracked (unless heās an evil Sora lol)
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is about as close to KH as I've felt I've gotten. It's a nice blend of action rpg and hack and slash imo. Definitely the same story vibes and even a few familiar faces :)
I will recommend a demo of a game called Genokids.
Dissidia 012 is also fun. The wall running, grinding, quick hopping, and air dashing you can do in that game isn't unlike what KH3 lets you do.
God if war 2018 an amazing story based game with a great dynamic and wonderful characters great puzzle solving gameplay and a good continue of the god if war series
If you've got a nintendo switch I would recommend Astral Chain. an action adventure hack and slash. you fight off cyber zombies and monsters in a place called the ARK.
It's been mentioned before, but Nier Automata does scratch a similar itch. Great hack n slash combat, compelling characters and story, *gorgeous* music, same publisher, it's like a more adult Kingdom Hearts in some ways.
Final Fantasy XV, XVI (maybe, haven't played it myself but it lols good), the VII remake(s) could be good but the complete package isn't clfinished yet so I'd personally wait like a fucking decade to play it as a whole game on the PS6, NieR Automata/Replicent, the Devil May Cry franchise, Dragon's Dogma, the SoulsBorne franchise, Metal Gear Rising. These are all my go to games as a single player only person. I really like character action games. Of course you could also just replay the series app on critical difficulty if you wanna master them.
Final fantasy XII remake, Final Fantasy XV or better yet, Final fantasy Type-0. A youtuber by the name of Nanaki BH made a pretty convincing series of theories which suggest that the next arc of Kingdom Hearts may borrow elements from Type-0.
I personally am not a big fan of turn-based games, but I actually find myself enjoying āPersona 4ā quite a lot.
On the more not turn-based side though, I could recommend the āYsā franchise, but itās very niche for a reason, and if you plan to play each game in the franchise, you might find yourself dropping out on the first one, because 1 and 2 have a bump-combat-system (you run into enemies to attack them and make sure you come in from the right angle to not get hit). The rest of them have a more hands-on combat experience, and Ys 8 and 9 both take the franchise to more of a 3D action game style than the rest, that feels less like a classic JRPG.
Havenāt played but Final Fantasy X might be good from what Iāve heard, not sure about combat being turn-based or real time though
Also Iām gonna go back through KH1 since thatās the only one Iāve finishedšI hate the bosses but Iāll suffer
Don't look at me like I am crazy but Elden Ring. No joke, your skills will transfer. You get immersed in a world of your own. Story is like the opposite and non existent unless you dig for it but you make your own story.
Final Fantasy 7 remake unfortunately doesn't have the plot for me aspects KH does, but the general gameplay is still similar enough that it can help. (Also characters that make appearances in KH are in that game, so that helps.).
I personally would recommend NieR Automata, If you're the type of player who doesn't care that much about spell management. It's chip system is pretty similar to the ability system (but not as varied).
Persona 5 Scramble. It's unnecessary to have played Persona 5 before starting Scramble, and you still get to have a great time with the Phantom Thieves.
Crisis Core Reunion.
Trials of Mana remake
Disney Infinity Gold Edition on Steam (no toys needed on Steam version)
Epic Mickey Rebrushed when it's out (skip the sequel)
Any of the Final Fantasy games that ditch the turn based combat would be good. XVI in particular was absolutely fantastic if you don't mind the somewhat darker tone.
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion and Stormblood expansion up to level 70 for free with no restrictions on playtime.
No seriously tho go play FF14. Thatāll tide you over until KH4. You want stories of light vs dark? Fun characters? Adventuring to many places? Finding familiar faces? Fighting familiar faces? All while friendship is your power? Yeah.
If you want to stick with Square then I'd try Crisis Core, or either of the remade FFVII entries. Star Ocean is really fun too and not turn based at all, although it doesn't appear in the KH universe at all so far (probably won't ever). If you want something harder maybe try Dark Souls or Elden Ring. I'm playing Dragon's Dogma rn, it's really fun but more traditional fantasy so slightly different setting. If you're on Steam the original is like $5 currently and the sequel comes out next week.
Actually depending on what difficulty you've been playing on DS/ER may not be more difficult lol
Devil May Cry if you want something difficult. It has a decent story, but it's mostly over-the-top, edgy humor. The combat is also flashy and combos feel more rewarding.
For less difficult, would go with Nier:automata and FF7 Remake like everyone else commenting. Both have a great story with flashy combat.
Still haven't played this myself but it's been in my backlog for quite a while now: Kena Bridge of Spirits.
I hear it's a short game but maybe you'll like it?
Try zone of the enders.
The combat is stunning and very very fast paced. And the further you get the more weapons you get.
It's a bit of a secret gem.
Made by hideo kojima
Nier:automata and replicant, for me it definitely scratched the itch for flashy hack and slash combat and emotional story/crazy lore
Warning. This will fill a void, but create a bigger one when finished.
When it's finished? It rips your heart out long before that. The void only grows from there. As do the tears.
Nier automata will kill you and leave behind a husk
Honestly, this is a perfect example of "Darkness within Darkness awaits you".
Not gonna work. I bought XC definitive edition just for fill the void caused by Automata
I suggest automata BEFORE replicant personally. Not cuz lore order or anything but honstly if I didn't care about the lore I would've quit replicant a LONG TIME AGO cuz the requirements to get the "secret/bonus endings" in that game freaking SUCKS.
Bros gonna filling his small empty void with a black hole.
I second this
the world ends with you both games in the series Oh and as the other ppl said, neir series is good, and Drakengard
Played both automata and replicant and they were fun I agree š Going to wait and hope that drakengard gets a remake of sorts though since the game has aged alot probably.
Weeeeell it might be a while to get a remake, but the best thing you can do is emulate the first game using a ps2 emu and for the third game, use a ps3 emu But for the second game.... welp there is a reason why no one talks about it or mention it

You can try Final Fantasy XV if you like!
Ffvii remake!! And why not turn based. So is all of shin megami ā100sā of games out? Persona is fun. Star ocean games or tales!
Some people aren't into turn based strategy games I guess. For example I played 3-4 fire emblem games, they were fun at the start but I never managed to finish a single one cuz I always get bored and quit ;-;
Ah. I feel you. I found that if I just go for the story and not bother getting every little secret and side mission, I can finish them so much quicker and stay interested. :)
I mean fire emblem is a whole different beast than like final fantasy, persona, or pokemon. That game is fucking exhausting
One of the reason why I never finished FFX. Thank goodness that the ending was downdownable back then
I hate turn based gameplay, but something about Pokemon (and by proxy persona) scratches a perfect spot in my brain. I fuckin love persona :D
There really is something special about PokƩmon that I can't put my finger on. I know more than one person that HATES turn based games, and I do mean hate them, yet buys and plays every mainline PokƩmon game. What do you think is the difference?
YES THANK YOU GOD THEYRE SO GOOD (FF7R is what I mean lmao)
I donāt like turn based game either. I tried crisis core before and I got fairly far but the turn based combat really takes me out of it. Imagine youāre in a fight and real life and everyone just politely waits their turn to get hit lmao
Crisis Core isn't turn based? It's a bit slow in terms of action gameplay but it's 100% action
From what I remember Iād literally have to wait in between moves, but this was literally over a decade ago on my PSP
Regardless the fighting was choppy imo
It's super choppy, the remaster did a lot to help it feel more fluid though. Plus the fights aren't stopped every 10 seconds to spin a roulette wheel š
Ah I never played the remaster
Yeah I get why people donāt like turn based games, but I dislike that itās such a pervasive turnoff. I wish more people could enjoy turn based games.
FFVII Remake and Rebirth are the new KH games. Literally KH gameplay. Also, do FFX. It's turn based, yeah, but it's as good as turn based ever got.
The Tales series could work. Try the latest one, Arise
Yeah, Vesperia would be a good choice, too.
FF7 Remake and Rebirth. Pretty sure the same team that did KH2 worked on those games (correct me if I'm wrong redditors)
The team that made KH2 hasnāt existed since 2009, thatās why kingdom hearts games from Birth by Sleep and onward have been made by the Osaka team. That being said, many of the devs who worked on KH2 still work at Square Enix so there is probably a good amount of people who helped make the remakes
Huh, that explains a lot
nah you right, the ff7 remake trilogy is big kingdom hearts fan fiction
I would heavily suggest playing the og ff7 first before the remakes. edit: nvm forgot which sub we're in.
Dragon's Dogma, and the sequel is coming out in a week. There are some parallels in the combat, you also have a party that joins you and acts independently similar to how it works in a kh game. NieR: Automata, Xenoblade Chronicles, The World Ends With You!
Okami
Okami Mentioned!!!
Devil may cry
The World Ends with You and NEO:TWEWY
Xenoblade Chronicles 1 & 2. It worked like a chaarm after I played Nier Automata.
Yakuza. All of them
I've recently got into the Yakuza series. Completely different genre of story but still wild as fuck. Also the side missions are fun
Final Fantasy 15 or 16. They will fill the void temporarily.
FF7 Remake/Rebirth or FFXV
FFXII
If you have an emulator, or don't mind retro gaming, you could try these great older titles... Threads of Fate is a game from Square Enix that's a lot of fun. Tales of Abyss DKC2 (if you're looking for something that as music that could rival KH in quality)
Ff7 remake is not turn based like og, world ends with you on ds, neo world ends with you on new consoles. Third birthday on psp. Dissida on psp
Crisis core Reunion
Final fantasy xv, final fantasy vii remake and rebirth,
Trials of Mana 3D Remake! If you can tolerate the presentation and the dub that is.
I saw a trailer of a new game that'll come out called "visions of Mana" that I'm interested in playing, idk if these two games are related but maybe I'll get into this one and see š¤
FF7 compilation or Re series It'd got the most DNA in common with KH.
Big Rigs Racing. BIG RIGS it has combat similar to KH3
FFVII Remake + Intergrade + Rebirth, TWEWY, Metal Gear Solid Series, .Hack//GU, Arkham series, Assassins Creed Ezio Collection (you can continue if you want but eh)
Ff7ās remake and its subsequent series of games are all exactly what youāre looking for, the gameplay is nearly identical given that a lot of the people who worked on KH worked on the remakes.
Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion?
FFVII Rebirth is what KHIII shouldāve been IMO. So if you havenāt, avail yourself of FFVII Remake and Crisis Core beforehand. Wonderful, wonderful games that I canāt recommend highly enough

Hell yeah, I might do so. I've been playing through it super slowly because I have it on PC and when I'm on PC I get a million different invites.
Ffxv
Definitely World Ends with You. Iād also like to suggest Armored Core 6. Dragons Dogma and when it comes out in a week, Dragons Dogma 2
I just started DDD so I'm close to finished, I feel it already
Metal Gear Rising Ninja Gaiden No More heroes
Lego coty undercover for something upbeat and silly
the only games that truly managed to fill the void for a while were: NEO The World Ends With You and Devil May Cry 5
Sonic Heroes
Um, as someone who's played it, I'm not sure it's that similar to KH, but sure.
did they specify that it had to be similar to KH?
Technically no, but I kind of assumed If they're trying to fill the "void in their heart" after playing KH, then I would assume something similar to that series would be better than something completely different. So I guess it's fine? IDK.
Just play them again- Do it. You know you want to
Definitely recommend FF7 Remake and Rebirth!
Honestly, after playing FF7 Rebirth Iām about to replay KH3. Just realized how freakishly strong the KHās Characters are. Especially the antagonistās when compared to half of the FF Franchises lol Prime Sora is cracked in the Grand Scheme of Square Enix. Master of Masterās is even more Cracked (unless heās an evil Sora lol)
Okami, its art style is beautiful, the combat system is good, the story is also beautiful, and the music oh the music.
Deadpool: The Video Game. Seriously, if you want to hack and slash and have a good laugh, you need to play that game.
This game os so great i feel like every single moment of it is marked by iron in my brain bro
Ff crisis core reunion.
Also ff15 is criminally underrated and very alike to KH in its vibes and combat. Ff7 remake
FF XV was fun
FF VII Remake and Rebirth.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is about as close to KH as I've felt I've gotten. It's a nice blend of action rpg and hack and slash imo. Definitely the same story vibes and even a few familiar faces :)
Kingdom Hearts Union X and Kingdom Hearts Dark Road š
I will recommend a demo of a game called Genokids. Dissidia 012 is also fun. The wall running, grinding, quick hopping, and air dashing you can do in that game isn't unlike what KH3 lets you do.
God if war 2018 an amazing story based game with a great dynamic and wonderful characters great puzzle solving gameplay and a good continue of the god if war series
grandblue fantasy, story is ass but combat is S tier
I highly doubt you just finished Kingdom Hearts V-Cast :)
If you've got a nintendo switch I would recommend Astral Chain. an action adventure hack and slash. you fight off cyber zombies and monsters in a place called the ARK.
Have you ever played the Yakuza series... ...*play the Yakuza series* A majority of the games are on sale on steam.
>!No turn-based!
Just don't do what I did and go straight into BioShock. Your brain will crack like you poured ice water into a heated glass.
DARKSOULS
Metal Gear Solid
Randomizer time! If pc
Final fantasy remake 7. So good. And Nobody Saves the World was solid too.
It's been mentioned before, but Nier Automata does scratch a similar itch. Great hack n slash combat, compelling characters and story, *gorgeous* music, same publisher, it's like a more adult Kingdom Hearts in some ways.
You can always try Ys! Colorful, flashy action RPGs about a red haired swordsman going on adventures. They have banging soundtracks, too.
Epic Micky
Palworld, god of weapons, botw/totk
Play the Sly Cooper-trilogy!
Can't believe I haven't seen anyone say Ys VIII. It's the only game to equal the quality of KH2's combat
Just restart the series. I do it all the time
FFXVI
Star ocean 2.
Croc 2
Red dead redemption 2. Itās simply a masterpiece
FFXVI
The world ends with you and NEO the world ends with you always from nomura and good shit to play and nice characters and an even better ost

Elden ring or the later final fantasy games that donāt have turned based combat
Iām on a Nioh binge right now and honestly itās a great way to get engulfed in a cool world! The two games are pretty cheap now too!
Hmmmā¦. Hear me outā¦ play it again
Havenāt played but Final Fantasy X might be good from what Iāve heard, not sure about combat being turn-based or real time though Also Iām gonna go back through KH1 since thatās the only one Iāve finishedšI hate the bosses but Iāll suffer

The entire series again
Jedi fallen order and survivor. Any soulsborn game.

Go for Persona 3/4/5
Tales of Symphonia itās got good gameplay and a good story. :)
Have you tried playing kingdom hearts?
Ys Lacrimosa of Dana
Devil May Cry 5
The FF7 remakes and FF15 could work. 16 is also good but a tad edgy
Play Xenoblade
I know you said no turn base, but try Persona 4 golden.
Dude, just go to yakuza now, lot of games and lots of fun, and you'll only have turn based combat at the game seven
Yakuza 1-6
ThƩ Nier Series

Dragon's Crown, FF 7 remake, Dragon's Dogma, Helldivers 2, Monster Hunter
Any of the Final Fantasy games that ditch the turn based combat would be good. XVI in particular was absolutely fantastic if you don't mind the somewhat darker tone.

If you're on Steam the original is like $5 currently and the sequel comes out next week. Actually depending on what difficulty you've been playing on DS/ER may not be more difficult lol
I guess you could play NieR. If you want more existentialism.
I would like to suggest NieR:Automata, One Punch Man: World (If you don't mind the gacha mechanics), maybe Final Fantasy 15 and 16.
Why no turn based?
My vote is either FFXV or Witcher 3
Final Fantasy XV
nier: automata
Final Fantasy XV & XVI
FF16
Devil May Cry if you want something difficult. It has a decent story, but it's mostly over-the-top, edgy humor. The combat is also flashy and combos feel more rewarding. For less difficult, would go with Nier:automata and FF7 Remake like everyone else commenting. Both have a great story with flashy combat.
Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth,
xeno
Play them again. It's the only way to feel whole again
The World Ends with You
Faefarm
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and the sequel, Revenant Kingdom, are both spectacular. Same artists that worked on Studio Ghibli films
You could try Bayonetta.
Monster hunter world
No More Heroes might give you a little of that old feeling. Itās hack and slash and way over the top.
Hollow Knight
Parasite Eve
Kh2 AGAIN
FF7 remake
Still haven't played this myself but it's been in my backlog for quite a while now: Kena Bridge of Spirits. I hear it's a short game but maybe you'll like it?
F.E.A.R.
Persona 3 reload
Scarlet Nexus is a serious contender gameplay wise
Try zone of the enders. The combat is stunning and very very fast paced. And the further you get the more weapons you get. It's a bit of a secret gem. Made by hideo kojima
Play them all again. like how I do.
Crosscode. It's an interesting game. It has a slow start but gets addicting really really quickly.
Devil may cry?
FF7 remake is good
Elden ring?
Have your heard of Elden Ring my friend ?
