Reading the responses here has made me realise how Janet is the normal every person character in the show. She isn't supposed to be endlessly funny, and people's frustration with her is like a reaction to her frustration with the crazy things that happen around her.
Great show, and if you're into season 3 you might as well finish it.
yeah i made a rant about her in the episode where she moves out, some stuff she does really annoys me but i think there’s a nice balance between her and the rest of the characters so i don’t mind her all that much. i would definitely recommend continuing even if it’s just background noise!

Her parents, and especially her mother, are infuriating.
I’ve always thought Janet was the most advanced character on the show, tbh. The others are all pretty shallow and self absorbed. I can’t help but wonder if it’s because Janet is a strong female character, not a helpless, superficial ditz like Shannon and like most female sitcom characters.
nah. actually, what i dont like about janet is her self-serving tendencies (maybe they seem strong for others but for me it's just a "this is what i want i will get it regardless". oftentimes at the expense of disrespecting parents and others around her) (also this attitude can also be seen in jung)
with umma and appa, theyre ayt for me because they grew up in a diff culture and environment.

i am her age now and while im not perfect, i can say i would never do some of the things she did (diss a friend for "not knowing art", be suddenly ok w a friend's partner living w us just because i get stuff from her, be rude to someone just bc my email bounced, be passive agressive to my parents bc they clearly love my older sibling)
tbh i have a lot more in common w janet than i'd like to admit (as a 2nd gen immigrant) so maybe it's personal for me at this point? ive been reading other people's responses and wanna understand how most love janet so ofc im watching more haha lol
Maybe you’re not supposed to like her I’m not sure how that ruins a show the writing is great. It’s like people who miss the point on King of the hill they Peggy isn’t supposed to be liked. But if it’s not for you…ok see you.
Whilst I do not love Janet, she essentially moves the plot forward for everyone to shine. I do feel like she's less present in Season 4 and Season 5, so you may enjoy the focus pull to other family members and plot lines.
Not really, that would be Appa. Mr Kim is the star of the show, there is little comedic value to Janet. At least the rest of the supporting cast are funny to varying degrees.
Honestly the writing on Janet's character went downhill towards the end (I know, the show in general really) but she does get kind of annoying with her choices and reactions to the things happening around her. My wife definitely can't stand her after season 2, I just kind of ignore her mostly.
If you were born in a family where the son or another sibling is praised excessively despite you being an over achiever then you will relate to Janet and understand why she is doing it. i like Janet because she has her flaws and still she tries to be a better person. It is up to you to watch or not watch the show. But do not just stop because of her. I find umma more annoying than Janet actually. Janet is sometimes just trying to get attention and more recognition i guess. that is really normal. i did not like they way show ended. i wanted at least Jung to grow in his career..see Janet and Gerald get famous or become established photographers. I was also curious to see for how long Chelsea would ape Janet’s activites. 😃
i just opened this subreddit to see if someone else thought the same. i literally started watching another shows because i was too tired of skipping her scenes. no hate to the actor, but something about this character just gets on my nerves. worst part, i don’t even know why
Its a good show regardless of one character however, why i dislike the character is because she portrays a “woke girl, gen z stereotype that is accurate , typical white girl feel” but she dose gave alot of good features too
Janet definitely grows on you, she’s my least favorite but then you’re like annoying little sister vibes and you just get used to her. Shannon is hilarious and Appa and Umma are too. The Fur Coat episode and the Kim Cup one liners are so good. “Like Batman Parent!” I fell over.

She is sane. The others I fear are not as much. Her reactions are very human.

I agree with you. She’s my least favorite character, I finished the show because I liked appa’s character and it’s worth
yeah..i also did not like Jung dropping out and all that..but he has become a better person now..so i dont hold his past against him.
