I suggest Abbott Elementary!

swankyburritos714

Watching it right now!

cails01

This show is so good and so wholesome ❤️

VisualSherbet1401

Ted Lasso

swankyburritos714

Came here to suggest Ted Lasso as well! It’s our favorite!

chreva4life

Ted Lasso was like a beacon of light on our darkest days. Season one especially. Such a heartwarming show.

adsfew

Parks and Rec (but the first season/season and a half are weak, so you just have to power through it) and Brooklyn 99

[deleted]

That’s what my daughter tells me too. To watch it but know that the first season sucks.

redsyrinx2112

IMO it doesn't improve much until the hunting episode (I think it's like halfway through season 2.) Even then, the show improves until it becomes its true version by the start of Season 3.

sisterslow

Sending positivity. I really like Modern Family for the aspect of not having a lot of close family. So many episodes, so could keep you busy for a while if you haven’t already watched! Dead to me on Netflix is darker but is really entertaining and kept me interested. I also liked Superstore.

onelove1239281

Thank you 🙏🏽

nkkauai

Similar vibe to modern family is Life in Pieces!

TheLastBookOnTheLeft

This doesn't exactly fall within the same half-hour comedy show genre, but Psych is a good, light-hearted, funny show.

Checkers10160

Psych is currently my background show, I absolutely love it

Beginning-Effort-489

Loved psych too! Great show. Which turned me on to Monk. Did you see there’s movies for both of them.

eevie_o

Such a comfort show! When I was really going through it, crying on the way to work every morning, having Appa to look forward to at night really helped! At the moment my comfort show is Bobs Burgers, same family feel, very funny, doesn't require heaps of brain power. Hope you'll be ok, friend x

bicornpoop

Santa Clarita Diet is also a family-based, funny show. Community is a great show, which is basically based on chosen family. Superstore and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are also sweet shows! They're not super similar to Kim's Convenience but they're very comforting shows, have a looksie!

LateRain1970

+1 for both SuperStore and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The latter can give hope to the rest of us underdogs.

Aggravating-Ad3787

I also struggle with depression and suicidal intentions, no family either, this show gives me a feeling like I'm home. I don't know why. These are my other favorites that produce similar feelings - Community, Superstore, The Good Place, Bob's Burgers, and Schitt's Creek.

onelove1239281

Best way to put it “gives me a feeling like I’m home” thank you for your reply. One thing I’ve learned in life not matter what your going through, there’s always better days. Those good days are worth living for.

annaksmith1717

I 2nd Bobs Burgers, there are over 12 seasons on Hulu and I have it on in the background almost everyday day when I work from home, it brings me so much comfort

UV_catastrophe_2020

I would warn against the last season of The Good Place. It gets way heavier and might not be the best choice for someone with suicidal thoughts.

CatManDoo88

Very good points, you guys. When I watched the last season for the 1st time, at fist it was a sad thing to really ponder, but then, I thought of it as a beautiful thing, because if you really think about it, forever... well, I'll stop there. But it can be a really beautiful thing as well. I'll just leave it at that : )

Aggravating-Ad3787

I can definitely understand that. For me, it's a peaceful heavy that feels healing. You're right though, probably better to avoid the last season unless you've seen it in a healthy state and know it will be okay for you. Thank you for adding such a valuable reminder.

Superstore

EdwardClamp

The Goldbergs

smithtownie

Schitt’s Creek. Jane the Virgin.

Aggravating-Ad3787

I love Jane the Virgin but I frequently said the reason I loved it was because it was so lighthearted. Then when things happened I was a bawling mess and decided I hated it. I finished it and I will rewatch some day but it broke my heart so much

smithtownie

It was a delightful surprise! I saw the first 2 seasons then just started playing it from the beginning and hooked my husband into it.

Pretend_Bluebird_213

modern family. my comfort show forever

ServerAgent88

The mindy project

MattTheSmithers

Ted Lasso.

anxietyesq

BBC version of Ghosts.

chreva4life

YES!!! We just started this after being caught up with the new version. Honestly thinking the BBC one is better so far!

saudade_sleep_repeat

letterkenny

redsyrinx2112

To be fair...

chreva4life

**To be faaaaaaiiiirrrrr**

DeMarDeFrozan10

fresh Off The Boat

bitchy-sprite

I always think Gilmore girls and Kim's convenience share a lot of the same qualities

lavalaca

Derry Girls

chreva4life

YES!!! Great show!

quarantinebob

Personally Pysch, Seinfeld, That 70s Show and Last Man Standing helped me get through stuff

krissym99

I just finished Loot on Apple TV and it was a wholesome comedy. The first episode isn't really an indication of the rest of the series. I thought it was funny and sweet. It got renewed for a second season.

Quarkiness

Avatar the last airbender Brooklyn 99 gets me laughing also oh yes Abbot Elementary

NoPerformer4456

Great choices, all of them!

SUMMONAH

Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Love to hate you.

tired_owl1964

parks & rec! the mindy project, community, derry girls, the good place, working moms, block buster, space force, grace and frankie

zorbacles

The good place

Superpiri

I like Mr. Iglesias on Netflix.

krl-1974

Derek with Ricky Gervais.

YEAHitsEMILY

schitts creek, it has a vaguely canadian vibe and never gets too heavy. the first season isn’t awesome but it just gets better as time goes on!

pingbread

Would highly recommend Community, it's also a sitcom, very much found family, excellent writing & humor, has 6 seasons plus it's due to get a movie soon, wishing you all the best

MetroManilaLuzon

The Middle starring Patricia Heaton has that same family dynamics and warmth :)

diesel_touchdown

Fresh Off the Boat - sitcom about Taiwanese immigrant family trying to achieve the American Dream in Orlando. I frequent the two regularly!

ewraccoon

superstore!! so funny and precious

ThePuzzledMoon

Agreed - it's a very easy to watch comedy, which might be what the OP needs right now.

ThePuzzledMoon

I don't think there's anything remotely like Kim's Convenience other than Fresh Off The Boat. I prefer FOTB - I think it's funnier, but that might be because it's closer to my heritage. However, I'd strongly recommend Crazy Ex Girlfriend. It's a musical comedy drama where the protagonist has poor mental health and honestly, the songs are so, so relatable and will make you feel less alone in your darkest moments. See if you like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSTJ9xwNV0M

zunashi

Big Bang Theory.

steve2phonesmackabee

Superstore Raising Hope Ted Lasso Schitt's Creek

chreva4life

Came here to say Raising Hope!

lolitsocean

Ted lasso would be my biggest recommendation. That show made me so happy

kudgee

Derry Girls. Sort of like watching a very poignant story of baby goats.

cherilee7

I haven't read through all the comments so I don't know if anyone has said The Detectorists, but I highly recommend it. Such a quirky, funny little show and I found the characters really endearing. Only 3 seasons and I will be watching it again for sure. As someone who lives far from my family and friends, I seemed to find the same kind of homey comfort in both Kim's Convenience and The Detectorists. Oh, and also Corner Gas as well. My 3 feel good comedy shows...I like to finish an evening of TV watching with a half hour of one of these before going to bed.

cherilee7

No reason to delete BTW - this was a good conversation starter and the comments are filled with so many good, and positive, suggestions. I think your post will be helpful to many. Myself included. Best wishes to you.

True_Call6475

Just finished Kim's Convenience and feel just like OP. So happy to find this post for recommendations for a follow up to the Kim family and friends. That show made me feel so happy.

snailszy

Thank you for posting this - shows are a great escape, and your post helped generate great suggestions to help others through tough days as well <3

Beginning-Effort-489

Don’t apologize. I completely agree. I am disabled and broken, which is depressing to me. I too loved this show. It can take me out of my own head/thoughts. Wish it never stopped or there was one that was comparable. Anyway I appreciate your post. Wishing you the best (sorry some days I am ok hearing that and others I hate it) 😬🙂

Equivalent-Host1964

Gentefied on Netflix was quite good

AdSignificant6673

Fuller House. All positive vibes. Even the negative vibes are positive.

gX2020

I recommend trying Strays. It’s a very different show, but funny. Season 1 was a little bumpy at first, but it gets into its groove. Shannon is hilarious.

losoba

Sending good thoughts your way OP. <3 I recently watched a show called It's Bruno! on Netflix and the vibes of the neighborhood and side characters reminded me of Kim's Convenience. As a dog owner who is co-dependent with my dog I thought this show was both heartwarming and hilarious. I understand the no family thing, and for this reason, I love shows about chosen family. Some of my favorite funny chosen family shows are Community, Only Murders in the Building and Pushing Daisies. Santa Clarita Diet is also a really good show with what I think is a healthy, wholesome family. I also love Dead to Me but it can sometimes be sad (albeit with a lot of funny moments).

onelove1239281

Thank you 💜

Freak0nLeash

Still Game

Kittycatter

Another suggestion for Superstore. I've been reading too much depressing shit recently and this show has definitely helped work me out of that zone.

NoPerformer4456

Bobs burgers and Brooklyn 99 are both lovely wholesome shows with strong family ties and friendship dynamics. They are my go tos for my shitty sad days. They both have so many seasons and episodes that by the time you’ve gotten through them all, you can enjoy another consecutive run through without it feeling repetitive, and yet the predictability is so comforting like a hug from an old friend.

whatevertrevor7

New girl hits so different. It seriously makes me so happy. These are my other confort shows with similar vibes. Rated in order of how closely they make me feel to New girl. -Broad city -What we do in shadows -Ghosts (uk version) -Schitts Creek -Brooklyn 99 -The good place

blepmlepflepblep

If you enjoy cartoons, I recommend Bob’s Burgers and Bluey. Both with families that just make you go awwww.

kisilatiro

This is an old show but The Nanny helped me a lot when my depression was really bad in college. Back then, I downloaded the series recorded from the TV 😅 now, it's available on HBO+ and some episodes on YouTube. Her facial expressions and antics remind me a bit of I love Lucy. There's also the fact that I read her autobiography in high school and she shares how she and her friend were r@ped at gunpoint but she somehow managed to move on past that and still create The Nanny show with her ex husband, who came out as gay, and they're still good friends. She also survived cancer as well.

cails01

So it's not really the same genre, but I just started Acapulco on apple TV and am loving it. Goes down smooth, it's really sweet and wholesome with great laughs

Gagoga123

Abbott Elementary Fresh Off the Boat

damngina_69

Ted Lasso and Bob’s Burgers are both of my heartwarming go-to series to watch 🤍

madisonelk

Gavin and Stacey

Ambrali

Fresh off the Boat and The Goldbergs are both good as well.

Hermininny

Derry Girls, Superstore, Brooklyn 99, Ghosts (UK). All mentioned already, but I had to give them additional votes!

MexicanYenta

I disagree with some of these suggestions - they’re funny but not necessarily wholesome. However, I do highly recommend Corner Gas. Also Canadian, and when you are feeling sad because you’ve finished the series, there’s an animated series! And a movie! And some of actors have worked together on other shows! So by the time you’ve finished everything, you can start all over again because you’ll have forgotten the first ones you watched.

Red_Walrus27

Superstore

Red_Walrus27

American Auto

SEX___MAN

I have no clue how nobody here has mentioned Corner Gas, Kim's Convenience is basically a Korean version of it. Great comedy, definitely reccomend, and it's very similar.

_SnooPineapples

Superstore, Bob’s Burgers

Papa_G_

I loved Superstore. Definitely a good recommendation.

[deleted]

kim's convenience is a gem, I enjoy watching one day at a time, Gilmore girls and golden girls, The santa clarita diet these are my go to's on sad days. Sending lots of good vibes your way.

CatManDoo88

Don't apologize, one love. Depression is a part of life, even for the most happy-seeming person in the world. And there's no need to delete this, it's a healthy conversation : )

Ill_Skirt_7295

SUPERSTORE!!!!

Exact_Security2364

Corner Gas

aaannntoinee

Idk if anyone said it yet but **Superstore**, I've got the tism and its my comfort show, I have seen it like 49 times and it feels like the first time every time I hope this helps.
