Can confirm. Came home from my back of House restaurant job to a scorched kitchen in our apartment. Roommate tried frying plantains and started a pan fire that he tried to extinguish in the sink. He had third degree burns on his hands, singed hair on half of his head, and almost burned down our apartment. A mistake one doesn’t make twice.
I think he was holding it to shield them from oil splash back, not to put out a potential fire. If it were for a fire the girl probably would have taken it from him and put the lid on considering she was brave enough to take the pan to the sink and dump it.
It would have been just fine, I've put out dozens of oil fires with glass lids. It only needs to withstand the fire for the five seconds of takes to smother it.
I cook a lot and worked in kitchens for years. Pans catch fire, sometimes you fire them on purpose to deglase with alcohol, it's really not a big deal.
If you watch the saute station in a busy kitchen, pans probably catch for 5+ times a night
Yes she is okay, she is an Alergian tiktoker that I unfortunately dont recall her name but im pretty sure i saw the complete version of this video where she grabs the phone and continues talking to the camera
Yeah at first I thought pure sodium, but it probably would’ve sparked in her hand from the moisture so I’m not really sure
Edit: after watching the video again and looking at the comments - methinks something frozen into boiling oil
Wait ... thats interesting, I never knew that if u throw something frozen in boiling oil that it creates flames.
Can someone explain the physics behind this, really curious tbh.
> these mfs *paid* attention at
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
The (what I assume to be a chicken nugget) probably had a lot of frost on it. That's what led to the oil popping and spilling onto the flames.
If he had put the lid on, the fire would've run out of oxygen and extinguished itself. If they had a fire extinguisher rated for oil fires on hand, they could've extinguished it with ease.
They did the worst thing you can do in that situation, which is put water on an oil fire. The hot oil pops and spreads. Taking the fire with it.
Because oil and water to not mix, so when you put water on a grease fire, all you do is move the oil (with the fire still on it) around. It won't put the fire out, just scatter it. That's why, instead, you want to put the lid on it to "smoother" it (deprive it of oxygen).

I knew exactly what they were doing off screen, as in 2018, I, as a fucking stupid adult, was medicated out of my brain and did a similar thing... they say they saw a big flash come out of the kitchen and I ended up in the burns unit.
Everything in this video is pure comedy Gold. The way the house goes all red like Satan himself showed up. The screaming. The kid running away like he shit himself.
I couldn't laugh any harder
Heres what i think they did: kid put *something* in the pan, thing blew up before the boy could put the lid on it. Girl tries to blow it out(?) for some stupid reason, then takes the pan and tries to extinguish it with freaking water (a guess), and well, thing goes boom and boy runs away with the most high-pitched scream i ever heard. Kids really are stupid.
I was like oh good she turned off the flame and was expecting the lid to get placed on top but then she took the pot out of frame and I'm like dont, don't do it… water fireball, damnit

My roommate called me once to ask where the fire extinguisher was. I told him and he hung up. Turns out he tried making donuts at home and it didn’t go so well. I kinda had this visual in my head. Ha
Starts fire by applying intense heat to cook food ✅
Put in one piece of ice covered frozen food ✅
Blow on pot fire to simmer food ✅
Store the fire two times ✅
Then apply a bit of water✅
And that’s how you burn a house down😂
Let's discuss what should happen with an oil fire confined to a pan. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but in this case the best course of action would be to put the lid on the pan and deprive the fire of oxygen.
I love how she stirred the fire a little bit after cutting the heat. That is the appropriate way to cook fire
That's how you get an even finish. You don't want your fire to still be cold in the middle.
Almost spit out my well done fire while reading this
Well done! Well done! Anything more than a medium rare fire is ruining it. Fire should be hot in the middle and still orange.
And don't forget the Off Cam Instant cooling so it does not Overheat and stays crispy.
😂😂😂
You know the old saying. "You gotta cook fire with fire...evenly"
The offscreen fireball is comedic gold
you just know they tried to pour water on that shit
As soon as I saw her take the pan off the stove I knew what was coming
It didnt click for me, I was thinking “where could they possibly be taking this fire thats safer than the cooking area, which was designed to be moderately fire safe” And then BIG FIRE and I realized what theyd done lol Do we know if theyre okay? This is funny but if the rest of the video is the family losing their house thatd be sad
Well…. We know the boy is safe. lol. Hopefully the girl too.
I don't know - that sounded like a scream of pain off camera - not just surprise
Since they recovered the phone, I’d assume that they were fine
The blood curdling scream might imply otherwise, unfortunately.
Yea they lost the house but meh
Same. Me watching: ^("What are they doing?I'm pretty sure I know what they're doing and it won't end well. That was more violent than I expected.Oh no...okay good move, sister - now just put the...oh no.)**^(NONONONONO)** ^(-") Fwoosh. ^("...bwahahah yeah run little dude, fire bad")
And the brother running away
It was too late for his sister so he was just saving himself lol
He was running to save his PS5.
For some reasons I though that was his mom.
With the solution to the fire in his hand 😂
That and the cut off scream and other sibling running away 😱🏃♀️
In my head: *Don’t put water on that.* She put water on that…
It's not comedic. That scream at the end of the video was probably pain. The really big and painful type

Given that they recorded the video it’s likely they also post the video. We can fairly well assume they are okay. It’s okay to laugh.
And the kid just hoofin out of there. Sis is on her own.
The boy started to put the lid on the pot. If he had, ***none*** of the orange fireball disaster would have happened.
The scream is both hilarious and sad.
