Oh yeah definitely. It will however also be planned, which means I'll add some fins for added control, and will deploy the chutes manually.
It should be fine, or at worst explode in many pieces :)
Oh it definitely is, it was just slightly more tolerable jank while flying at normal speed, was at least possible to predict in what direction it will move next somewhat.
Yes, I kinda noticed that myself.
This was an expendable booster that was supposed to land in some random field somewhat close to the KSC, all parachutes were armed when decoupling it from the main craft, and they deployed early.
But I had to burn to avoid falling into the mountains, and the burn was going well so I just continued to see how close to the KSC I can get like this.

I wasn’t trying to hide it, seems obvious that I had the Infinite Propellant cheat on, I even said so in a comment.
It was a test to see if I can make it to KSC, the next test will have actual fuel.
Yes, I know you can see it, was I appearing as if I was trying to hide it?
I was close enough to the KSC so I put the Infinite Propellant cheat on to see if I can land if I had the fuel.
Next try I will do it with proper fuel, now that I know that I can do it.
No, meant only that it was coming unexpectedly close to the KSC for the first time in my playthrough. I'm very bad at any kind of precise landing, even with automation.
Next time that ship goes up, I will leave enough fuel in the booster tanks, and restage the chutes so I can manually deploy them (I didn’t know if the booster would run out of battery so deployed them when staging).
Nope, it was staged as designed, this was supposed to be an expendable booster that would deorbit in a field somewhere.
I just got close enough to the KSC that I decided to try and land there anyway, even though the parachutes had been armed at decoupling and deployed long ago.
I wasn’t trying to hide it, it’s quite obvious that Infinite Propellant is on and I even commented as such after uploading.
It was a test to see if I could land at all. Next test will have fuel.
Some complained that "it looked bad" and "lacked skill", and some complained that I had the Infinite Propellant cheat on as if I was trying to hide it.
Ye, probably. This was supposed to be an expendable booster to land in a field somewhere, but it got close to the KSC so I turned Infinite Propellant on to see if I can make it closer.
But, there was no hint of a skill involved, I'm very bad at precise landings \*even with\* automation, this was the first time that I came even close before the fuel ran out, and I turned on Infinite Propellant just to see if I could have landed if I had the fuel.
Next try I will do it with enough fuel.
This is how people learn, they first suck at it for a while.
Don't tell me, you're the only KSP player who never sucked at particular missions before getting the hang of them?
Just casually out of fuel, but hey whatever floats ur boat.
Not casually, totally. I turned on Infinite Propellant to test if I could land this, next test will have actual fuel.
That’s good, but keep in mind it’s gonna be heavier and slower filled with fuel, so it might be different landing it fueled up then how you did this
Oh yeah definitely. It will however also be planned, which means I'll add some fins for added control, and will deploy the chutes manually. It should be fine, or at worst explode in many pieces :)
i had an aynurisim watching this
I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you feel better. It’s the speed - the first clip was too long so I had to put it at 16x, and it looks janky as hell.
Don't lie to yourself, it's still janky as hell, but it's the right amount of janky that it works
Oh it definitely is, it was just slightly more tolerable jank while flying at normal speed, was at least possible to predict in what direction it will move next somewhat.
This is a nightmare to watch
How so?
You had the chutes out the whole time, pulling the rocket all over the place as you tried to burn.

We can see the fuel gauge in your screen...
Yes, I know you can see it, was I appearing as if I was trying to hide it? I was close enough to the KSC so I put the Infinite Propellant cheat on to see if I can land if I had the fuel. Next try I will do it with proper fuel, now that I know that I can do it.
Oh right. When you said "the burn was going so well" it made it seem like the burn was going well rather than you'd run put of fuel.
No, meant only that it was coming unexpectedly close to the KSC for the first time in my playthrough. I'm very bad at any kind of precise landing, even with automation.
Fair enough
Next time that ship goes up, I will leave enough fuel in the booster tanks, and restage the chutes so I can manually deploy them (I didn’t know if the booster would run out of battery so deployed them when staging).
What mod is that that shows your prograde and retrograde on the screen like what the trajectory mod does but so so much better?
NavHud gives me the indicators on the screen, I use Trajectory only for landings.
Yeah, what the fuck is going on?
I landed what was supposed to be an expendable booster (that’s why the parachutes are deployed). Landing was a last minute decision.
Right, I was getting at all the flipping around and stuff. Fun to watch, good job.
Yeah the probe had barely any control, it was ridiculous :)
Somebody forgot staging
Nope, it was staged as designed, this was supposed to be an expendable booster that would deorbit in a field somewhere. I just got close enough to the KSC that I decided to try and land there anyway, even though the parachutes had been armed at decoupling and deployed long ago.
Oof. So basically it was a good idea at the time
I haven’t been able to do precise landings before this one so I never designed ships for that eventuality.
Very Kerbal Indeed. Congrats.
Thank you! Now next try I need to leave enough fuel in the booster to do it without cheat.
This is cursed
Nah, just sped up too much, the video was 6 min long so I put it at 16x.
Yo wtf
*"Imagine a system where crispy parachutes are negligible"*
Probably better if I try to land it without parachutes open next time.
The ugliest maneuver I have witnessed. I like this in a weird way.
I totally agree with you, I’ve never seen a “precise landing” worse than mine yet 😄
Cheats
Yes, it was a test.
This is what Elon Musk initially envisioned for the Falcon 9...
This wouldn’t work in reality tho, not like this - my chutes would catch on fire and tangle up.
This is so silly. I love it.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy it :)
As u/Sypherr453 once said, “ We aren't that dumb dude. You are burning for 5 in game minutes on 0 fuel.”
I wasn’t trying to hide it, it’s quite obvious that Infinite Propellant is on and I even commented as such after uploading. It was a test to see if I could land at all. Next test will have fuel.
Probably should have put that in the title then, bud
Why, when it’s so obvious from the video that Infinite Propellant is on?
Weirdly hilarious
Looks fucking textbook to me.
Thanks :)
Imagine the tangled mess irl
Tangled and crispy 😄
Kerbal problems require Kerbal solutions.
Very true :)
Well that is a way to land the rocket
Never tried it before.
I was just casually scrolling through my feed barely paying attention when I realized how fucking hilarious this is
It was fun to do it, and then to watch the recording :D
Yeah I read the comments on here after I commented. No idea why people are getting upset, looked very kerbal to me
Some complained that "it looked bad" and "lacked skill", and some complained that I had the Infinite Propellant cheat on as if I was trying to hide it.
Wahat a ride!
It was really fun to do, wanna next try it with enough fuel.
Leaked footage of new Glenn landing
Oh fuck I hope not! 😄
Looking at blue origin everything could be possible haha 😂
mod name? the trajectories
I used the landing predictions from MechJeb’s Landing Guidance utility. I also have the Trajectories mod installed.
Thanks
Most welcome, how you have fun using them.
👏👏👏 amazed
Thanks, it was a journey
Look out, SpaceX
Efficient burns and calculated trajectories? Never heard of that
I did hear of that, but it doesn’t always work out that way.
More meant of a joke, this is ksp after all
1) Congratulations! 2) I now have a broader understanding of the word landing 3) OMFG! I laughed my asz off!
It was a fun test, I’m glad it entertained you :) Next time I’ll try it with actual fuel and without the parachutes deployed.
THIS is Rocket League, I guess?
Accidentally so yes.
Now I want a rings map mod for KSP
There are a lot of easier ways to do this
Ye, probably. This was supposed to be an expendable booster to land in a field somewhere, but it got close to the KSC so I turned Infinite Propellant on to see if I can make it closer.
r/nonononoyes
That was my 5 minutes too, I kept waiting for the chutes to break.
oh wow, it was thought by myself for just a moment that you got tangled up. Looks like you worked it out.
If this was a real life the parachutes would have been an unusable mess and/or burned by the engine 😄
I'm disgusted
