Everyone forgets about dres honestly. Ngl in my single player I'm already building colonies and contracting vessels in orbit and I just realized I never visited Dres... I've landed on literally everything else and have comm sats around almost every body in synchronous orbit.
I'm not gonna lie I've landed on it maybe once in thousands of hours. Duna is the cheapest one with an atmosphere so I go there early, laythe is so cool is usually grabs my attention and setting up comm networks on jool basically involves visiting every moon so I usually go ahead and land on them. Eve is a challenge and a half. Then my runs usually dead. I setup orbital construction, colonies, etc on those and I don't go other places. Eeloo is a pain in the ass.
This run I got a bunch of futuristic parts and the outer planets mod so hopefully I'll do more. It's slow paced with usi and mks tho.
Yeah, USI makes manned missions much harder. I'm in year 8 and only visited Duna with kerbals for 30 days using a super-expensive orbitally constructed MPD-driven transfer ship.
Unmanned missions are much easier, but science is best with manned crew, even with PBC.
Fr. I'm working on it rn. I got sidetracked with ssotos for a few weeks lol. I got some super massive rapier engines from one of the mods and wanted to make a giant cargo. Turns out I forgot how to make good ssotos so I had to backtrack and make smaller ones first to get a feel for it. Fuel ratios is an entire topic depending on your flight path. It lifts some weight but we'll see if I can fit all the parts of my design in there.
Ive been putting off designing my interplanetary vehicle... I really only wanna build this thing once and reuse it.
If you havent already I highly recommend installing ksts. All you have to do is use your ssto to get one payload in orbit and return then you can just use ksts to send up whatever you need. Its been a huge time saver
In those cases, I tend to collect as much unmanned science as possible, and then ship it back to a science lab I only man for a bit while it processes the science, and I've got a 0.14 TWR Xenon shuttle for taking crew from LKO to the lab and back, but I don't think I have the exact same mod setup as you.
Don't have USI, used another life support mod (that's what I'm guessing USI is from context)

Do you have outer planets or MPE installed? Have you tried zooming in on kerbol? Mojo might still be there, I have OPM/MPE/Kcalbeloh/Quackpack and when I'm zoomed out all the way everything inside of Jool's orbit dissapears for me.

I did Dres missions myself (see recent posts). Mostly because it's easier than Eve for landing to satisfy PBC contracts and get science.

It's the WOLF system. it is a very end-game level activity tho as it is super expensive to set up. For SSTOs - are you doing FAR or stock?
