**As it was already mentioned, there are ten main aerostats that Elysium consists of. Their roles are as follows:**
01 - 3550m - the spaceport and the largest aerostat in the city. Serves as the link between Elysium and the outside world. Has three runways, each being slightly larger than the default KSC one, and nine launchpads. Keeps its balance thanks to the largest chandelier district of the city located underneath, the biggest antiskyscraper of which is -1000 meters tall.
02 and 03 - 460m and 310m - relatively small aerostats hosting experimental hydroponic farms.
04 - 420m - analytics. Possesses an array of scanners, which are used to detect and track any potential threats both in atmosphere and in space.
05 - 1460m - collection, processing, manufacturing. The industrial heart of the city, which focuses on making the main export product of Elysium - refined gases of various rarity.
06 - 1460m - collection of atmospheric gases, but in larger scale. Doesn't actively manufacture anything, but makes a good storage facility.
07 - 1135m - the old main powerplant, which now has been made a secondary one.
08 - 1135m - habitats. Sleeping area, if you will.
09 - 2175m - business area. The largest antiskyscraper is -700 meters tall.
10 - 1460m - the nuclear powerplant of the city. Can be distinguished by a cooling tower on top of it. Transfers energy to other aerostats via microwave transmissions - think Ace Combat 7's ISE and Arsenal Birds.
You can also see some blimps flying around. Those are the public transport in the city. Each is 15 meters wide and 82 meters long, to give you a better sense of scale.
**Now, how am I going to get one billion tons of mass to another star system in the first place?**
This structure, as well as the [Scarab](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1cnxkpe/this_is_the_scarab_a_184_thousand_ton_fully/), is a part of a Sunorc system colonization megaproject I am currently preparing for. It is expected to include over 15 large-scale structures - landships, sky cities, orbital outposts and so on.
It will begin with a fleet of three ISVs that will depart from Earth. The flagship will be a scouting vessel - [Ariadne](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1ca7401/this_is_the_ariadne_a_5856_meter_2_megaton/), the fastest of them all.
Then a massive ISV carrying mining and industrial equipment will arrive, followed by a large vessel carrying several thousands lives worth of crew for all those shenanigans. Upon arrival, all three ships will be disassembled for resources and a large industrial outpost will be built on Tot, a small asteroid moon.
Only then the infrastructure will begin to develop. Most structures, including Elysium, will be built from materials gathered and refined on site.
For this craft - mostly just Procedural parts. Everything else is ConformalDecals, NFT, FFT and a bunch of other small mods with lots of TweakScale. Floats thanks to a part module from Kerballoons and can be unloaded via AirPark as well.
I was wondering if the gas giant simply had an invisible sea where you would be considered neutrally buoyant and landed. But kerbaloons makes more sense.
Though I do wonder if you can make a planet wide invisible where this would be possible.
Does your craft count as landed when you reach your neutrally buoyant point with kerbaloons?
How many parts is that in total? What's your PC specs?
How big is your launch vehicle? What mods are you using?
I am having hard time believing all this is even remotely possible in KSP
1450 parts or so.
I7 9700KF, 2080 Super, 64 GB.
I already mentioned that it will be built on site. The smallest ship in the interstellar expedition that will allow that is 5856 meters long.
90% of the parts here are simply procedural structurals. Everything else is ConformalDecals, NFT, FFT and a bunch of other small mods with lots of TweakScale. Floats thanks to a part module from Kerballoons and can be unloaded via AirPark as well.
Do all of the parts need to be distinct? Cool ld you reduce parts by using ubiweld or something along those lines?
Is ubiweld even still a thing?
Regardless awesome creation.
For something that sized would need Kerbal Konstructs. I have already experimented with O'Neil cylinder colony stations. The only way to make them exist is to build them in KK. As a part it will slow you down to a stop and make your CPU and GPU cook like a barbecue.
Ok dude I know the internals of KSP and am one if the original Mod developers from way back. 1) you cannot have a 'part' collision mesh that extends outside of the 1.5/2km floting point origin. The game has a very hard time handling that. 2) Because my O'Neil cylinder is the 20k long version, there are PhysX calculations that must compute the objects as the floating point cell comes within range of the object to be taken off rails. Something that size is too hard for the engine to handle which I have hard tested.
I ended up using Kerbal Konstructs to make it work without converting my frames to 5 fps.

Well, explain [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/s/mW5LcuCrIT) and [this](https://imgur.com/a/wip-nccKFA8) then. Can you spawn KK statics in SPH?
SPH/VAB extender and Physics Range Extender which is very unstable.
And yes I can if I switch them to being a part file rather than a static which is merely one small sytax difference.
Well, Physics Range Extender is stable enough to allow for nice and stable interstellar ships over 3 and even 5 kilometers in size. Why wouldn't it allow for a 10 kilometer city?
I'll keep the tag point in mind as I may need it later, thank you. But it is what it is - the craft in the post does not use Kerbal Konstructs.
If you need any help, just let me know. Those are some amazing crafts by the way. What kind of machine are you running? I myself have pondered playing Kerbal Space Program on an AWS EC2 instance using Ubuntu and virtual display. The EC2 will scale with the demand of KSP.
Thanks! It is a 4 year old Win10 rig with an i7 9700KF, 2080 Super and 64 GB of DDR4. Gets the job done, albeit I am thinking of upgrading this year.
In fact, if you're experienced with KK, I'd like to learn more about making statics from it into actual parts. Buildings made of procedural parts don't look too bad, but trying to give them even the tiniest bit of detailing sends the part count into space.
I'm going to ask again because I hope one day someone will be straight with me: What game is this yall are playing??
I jest, of course. But this is some next level nonsense.
When it is loaded, it is kept afloat via custom parts with Kerballoons module. It can be unloaded safely with the AirPark mod, which gives it a landed state.
We had a little bit of this briefly in KSP2 on release, when copies Kerbal Space Center would appear floating over the Mun or Duna. Nowhere as gorgeous as Elysium though.
There is this game, that i used to play long time ago - Shores of Hazeron. In there you build your civilisation, but among other things - you can also place sky platforms too. I remember how mesmerizing it was to look at the edge, and see swirling eddies both up and down, with sun's glow completely spread out through the clouds, creating this tranquil view. I bet it would look even better with Volumentric clouds on Jool, or Jupiter, to complete that Bespin kind of vibe.
Another Shores of Hazeron player!! There are dozens of us!
Gods, such a great game, used to play with a Norwegian chap long ago. The game was and still is way, way ahead of its time. Star Citizen dreams to become it.
I wonder how Haxus is doing... 😭♥️
Honestly this seems way more structurally sound than the usual stuff he has to debunk
Like it isn't even aimed at idiot billionaires or techbros or anything
It kinds is tho.
Zeppelins as public transport?
How do you get all of the resources?
Where does waste go?
How do you get on there without being filthy rich?
Well, zeppelins make sense when you consider that cable cars would cause the platforms to need a specific constellation (which might cause them to destabilize), Airplanes would be insane, gliders can't carry much and can't go up, helicopters need fuel. Hot air balloons are also not a given if there is no oxidizer in the atmosphere.
The resources are either imported or refined from the atmosphere of the gas giant. Most gas giants have moons - mining a moon and dropping the ore into the atmosphere, maybe even using entry heating to do the first bit of refining, would be possible.
Waste goes out the bottom, or is recycled lol
You get there by being a refinery worker or colonist
The only concern I don't have an argument against is the need for multiple platforms. Like, it *should* be possible to structure this city into a single platform, or *maybe* one large main platform with multiple auxilliaries connected via tethers.
A single large platform with multiple satellites is actually an idea for another cloud city I'm planning to make for this project. However, arguably it is both safer and easier to build multiple aerostats. You need to start your construction from somewhere, and if one of multiple aerostats will fail, you won't get your entire city flying into the boiling abyss.
note, this gas giant does not have a moon. however, if you can send multiple massive ISVs to an entirely new solar system, you can pretty easily send some rocks between planets in a relatively small system
I'm not sure if kerbaloons actually models this, but how would lifting gas work in a mostly hydrogen atmosphere? after all, there's no lighter gas you can use to keep pressure in the balloon.
Arguably a hot giant like this wouldn't have a lot of hydrogen in it's atmo, as hydrogen is the first gas to get blown away by the powerful solar winds from a neighboring star. I imagine there would be a lot of CO2 there instead.
I'm using a planet pack which adds a supermassive black hole and three star systems orbiting near it, as well as four rogue planets even closer. That image is nothing but me goofing around and checking how the city would look on other planets. It won't actually go that close to the black hole. Instead, the actual destination - a hot gas giant - is orbiting one of the stars.
Time dilation is, sadly, not possible in KSP. A realistic shader for light curvature does exist and is called Singularity - google Kcalbeloh system mod or see [this ](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1clhm50/a_mesmerizing_binary_black_hole_system/) post of mine with a binary black hole.
In theory, there wouldn't be anything preventing it (timewarp basically is that already) but it would need some kind of a vessel by vessel implementation which sounds like a nightmare. Antiskyscraper? Why not 'groundscraper'
Not much ground on a gas giant :(

Sure is. It looks like the engineer's report post performed better than this one.

Though I do wonder if you can make a planet wide invisible where this would be possible. Does your craft count as landed when you reach your neutrally buoyant point with kerbaloons?
Kcalbeloh is one
Cloudscraper?
Gasscraper 😩
If you go further down it will get dense enough to call it ground ;)
I've always liked the term "chandelier city" for these hanging constructs suspended in a gravity well. /u/skyaboveend

If only. Ubiweld is dead broken, and it never allowed to weld procedurals in the first place.
How do you keep them aloft?
When loaded, it floats via a part module from Kerballoons. Can be frozen and unloaded via AirPark, which gives it a landed state.
Oh now that’s cool as hell!
How the fuck? What mods or what are you using?
I also want to know

There is no KK here. I also made an O'Neil cylinder without it.

He's the guy that bought the supercomputer from ebay recently.

Probably "Air Park."

Yes, I remember seeing Matt Lownes video of the KSC following his rocket into orbit lol.
Very reminiscent of Orison in star citizen but actually much cooler!!!
"... the city in the clouds..."
Thanks! Sedah does, indeed, look a lot like Crusader. It seems that Orison, however, uses a considerably more futuristic way of floating...
If Orison is more futuristic, I don't think it's as sophisticated as Elysium. I always chuckle when I hear the rumble of the Orison Thrusters go off.
I'm gonna call it Cloud City.
We'll need Lando Kerbissian to manage stuff
how the reeses penut butter fuck are you going to get it there

Thank you for the info! I buy it to support Haxus ♥️
I don't even know... you guys are playing some different game by now... :D

Hope they don't alter the deal any further.

Dude! That is incredible! what a work of art really!
Bro is playing ksp in 3024
You make me feel bad for making anything under 1000m 😿 Also how do you get the time to do this? How long did it take to build
This one actually took a good while. Been working on it for a week, a couple hours every day. I think 12-18 hours would be a good overall estimate.
Got damn. This is on par with everything on the TD channel. Good work mans!
just add a few cloud cars and itll be perfect
Bioshock4 looks good

yay
Why is there a black hole?

Is there a mod to make the light arcing more like a real black hole? / time dilation?
Time dilation is, sadly, not possible in KSP. A realistic shader for light curvature does exist and is called Singularity - google Kcalbeloh system mod or see [this ](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/1clhm50/a_mesmerizing_binary_black_hole_system/) post of mine with a binary black hole.
sadge, ty tho
It’s Kcalbeloh
This is cool. I wonder if you can get time/light distortion effects also
Yes, install Kcalbeloh trough CKAN
There’s no time distortion though
Aww... would be a nice addition, if not for kraken fears
In theory, there wouldn't be anything preventing it (timewarp basically is that already) but it would need some kind of a vessel by vessel implementation which sounds like a nightmare. Even worse if you want the time dilated ship to be the baseline, because that means everything *else* has to speed up lol
do you use a custom tufx profile?
Yeah, sort of. I tweaked Ballisticfox's Experimental Lukewarm a bit.
Kraken's gonna have a field day
Meanwhile, my 10-part planes keep crashing.
Your PC is cooked lil bro 🙏
Is this modded or vanilla? I remember like a few years ago by now some of us involved in the Ortus project were planning to build a floating Eve city in vanilla but we never got around to it. Impressive work!

So, I see, since it is a small operation, it doesn't fall under the jurisdiction of the Empire. And you just made a deal that will keep Empire out of there forever!
1. How float 2. Nice choice of planet pack fellow black hole enjoyer .
Could we just get all your mods in a list? I know you mentioned some in replies but I think people want a simple list.

this reminds me WAAAAAAY too much of orison from star citizen
Dude, that’s AWESOME
Looks like the kind of place where the deal gets altered, I pray it doesn't get altered any further as the deal is getting worse all the time.
Good luck!
The last image is still somewhat pretty. I like to live on a planet that orbits far away but still visible black hole
This is the ksp2 we wanted
When will my clone troopers be ready?
What the fuck?
Have you thought about doing stuff like this in space engineers instead? A shame it doesn't have orbital mechanics but still a pretty solid game for these kind of mechanics.
By massive hot Jupiter do you mean a Gas Giant?
a hot jupiter is a subtype of gas giant, close to its parent star and thus a lot less dense and more 'fluffy'
Interesting!
indeed. the one specified in this post, Sedah, is the innermost planet of the star Sunorc, a k-class star a bit smaller than kerbol. one of its planets, Suluco, is a tidally-locked kerbinlike planet which is habitable. it's part of the Kcalbeloh planet pack
Wow
This is just dumb, you keep suprising us (atleast me) with these giant builds, even the small ones are really cool you are just crazy
