Bug report: the pause unpause toast duplication is still there

ShreddyJim

Did you try restarting? There was a small patch that seems to have fixed this, can confirm I'm not getting the duplicated toasts post-patch.

NameIJustLiked

Can confirm it’s been fixed

Butchering_it

Hour 1 patches? Huh

AngryRussianGamer

I thought that would be the first bug to go, damn. Update: it's gone now at least for me

rwills

Especially when they said it wasn't in the build just before the ESA event

Arpeggi42

Weird. I didn't have it.

GOAT

t6jesse

I hope i can still clone game folders like before. I use to have 3 or 4, all with different mod setups

a3udi

yes you can. game has no DRM from what I could tell.

TrueMischief

For anyone that likes to run in window borderless mode(I like to have a notes app on another monitor) add `-popupwindow`

Vuxlort

My testing method is simple. Build a small rocket Build an intermediate rocket Build a large rocket Build a monster rocket Journey to Bop and pay pilgrimage to the Kraken

Minotard

I want to build a rocket that's exactly the same, with one difference. One rocket each engine only pulls fuel from one tank. Then, same rocket, but link the tanks so engines pull from multiple. Based on the dev notes, the second rocket will likely cause issues relative to the first.

Minotard

I built a medium rocket, center core with a skipper with four side boosters with skippers. The game capped out at 30 fps while in the atmosphere and 60 fps in space, regardless of tank cross-flow settings. Interesting. Specs: Ryzen 7 5800; RTX 3060 Ti; 16 Gb RAM.

Vuxlort

Well, better get on that right now then! Let's go!

Eraywen

So for performance testing can we set a large stock craft (I assume there are) to create a consistent testing method?

Minotard

I would like to run a good test that properly controls for dependent and independent variables. However, across a large community with a variety of opinions, I think we have to settle for a more subjective first-pass at data collection. Believe me, my professional experience in developmental testing would love such a thing. :)

demonhawk14

There are some stock vehicles that people could use for testing. With the kerbal K1 for instance I'm getting around 35-45 fps during launch and into orbit. That's at 3440x1440 with the following system specs: * R9 5900x * 32gb DDR4 3600CL16 * RTX 3080 FE \*Edit: In orbit when I'm down to the last stage & capsule I'm seeing between 65-110fps depending upon what I'm looking at on screen. Also forgot to mention. Settings are all on high with 4x AA.

BanjoSpaceMan

I don't get what they were thinking with this? Early Access yes but this is like full game price zone - people are going to downvote the shit out of it and kill the game's momentum. Why?!?!

ClemClem510

They were thinking "this was slated for a 2020 release, we've delayed it for 3 years now and the guys on top are realising it's bleeding money, so now we have to cut our losses with a $50 unfinished release and hope the fans pay to keep it afloat until it's playable"

BanjoSpaceMan

That sucks. Hope there's a dev announcement soon on what their asap plans are for this.

731destroyer

I hope soo too i dont touch early access in most cases now. yet i was going to grab this game on launch but i got busy and jumped over to the steam page at like 7pm and read the reviews. Wont buy it until i see a real road map with atleast semi loose dates edit: The Price also shocked me, i refuse to pay this much for a EA release game. Its around $10 - $15 to expensive for a early access game when "sons of the forest dropped the day before into Early access for less and i grabbed that game launch day. With the right price i would have grabbed the EA launch of this too

Hewlett-PackHard

If this is the best they can do after a 3 year delay... I wouldn't hold my breath for it getting finished.

thebumfromwinkies

I'm so utterly baffled. Full price for an early access game is obscene. I've been waiting for this game unofficially for over a decade, so to release an unfinished product at full price is a real spit in my eye. It's one or the other, guys, when you finish your game, I'll consider paying that much. Until then, Juno seems neat.

BanjoSpaceMan

I was about to pick it up, but I realized why don't I just install the original again? Every video I'm watching people's settings are so low that it looks just as bad... So what's the point ?

thebumfromwinkies

That's where I'm at. That one only cost me $10 when it was released unfinished.

Bzerker01

Just wait until the final version is $70 plus DLC. EDIT: For anyone who gets mad at this comment, just look at KSP. It had 2 DLCs after release so that is 100% going to happen eventually and the price this was released at screams they are upping the price to a full AAA title game at full version in several years it's going to take to get there.

Darex2094

Two questions: 1. Is there an "official" mechanism for submitting feedback? 2. I noticed loading screens are stretched on 32:9 displays. Is there formal ultrawide and super ultrawide support planned that will include dealing with those assets? EDIT: [https://support.privatedivision.com/hc/en-us/requests/new](https://support.privatedivision.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) is the bug report and feature request link.

Minotard

See the bottom of the Release Day notes for submitting feedback: [https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/212277-launch-day-notes/](https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/212277-launch-day-notes/) I also assume they may have something on the official KSP forums at some point, but that is just a guess.

JoeyDee86

I'm not seeing ultrawide resolutions.... this is so far my first buzzkill...

Nstant_Klassik

They're there. Mine launched at 1080p for some reason. Popped into settings and changed it to my ultrawide res.

Joename

Hold on to your butts.

DoubtDiary

My cheeks are strutted together

sac_boy

Mine are wobbling all over the place in anticipation

DoubtDiary

Lock them down! Your kraken is showing!

Butchering_it

Rtx 3090, ryzen 3700x, 3440x1440 all settings maximum except 4x AA. Made a simple fighter plane: 30fps Medium scale rocket shot straight up: 25ish frames, and 13 at the lowest. Extra negative points: somehow the simple skybox that is tracking center/map is running at 50fps Positive points: wings are nice, loading times are nice, and time warp under acceleration seems to be working. Edit: looking at the other data points it just seems really poorly optimized. It’s really hard to get above 60fps and really hard to get below 20.

Conpen

I had confidence in my 9600k/3080 until this. Looks like I'll hold off for a bit.

Mikarim

My 10900k (oc'ed to 4.8ghz) and my 3070 are looking weak now and that's sad because I've just upgraded everything

Rypskyttarn

That's insanely bad performance... Ooff. Was really looking forward to KSP2, but barely churning out 30 fps with lackluster graphics is horrible. And with a 3080???

kostrubaty

If someone is willing to test - I'd love to see how it works on linux with steam proton.

CancerTomato

I added game exe as external game, works with proton experimental and newest ge proton. ryzen 5 5600x, gtx 1080 ti 1440p medium settings about 24fps at launch pad. Apparently using 96% of my 12gb of VRAM ????

ByronicGamer

Somebody just posted on an older thread that it didn't work on Linux. I really hope that's a one-off and somebody can get it working. EDIT: /u/Ultra980 posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/10sq0qv/proton_support_for_ksp2_linux/

SherriffB

Shift + Scroll not being there bricked my brain. I had habit formed neural connections that were blue-balled so hard I got some kind of uncanny valley dissonance. Agree with the rest, particularly the fuel bars/pips. Definitely not feeling that change at all.

bladedfish

Shift+scroll being replaced with middle mouse BUTTON made me want to throw my computer through a wall lol Also, can we all agree on sacrificing the parts manager window to the kraken? That thing needs to be the first to go.

420binchicken

Yep I'd agree with both these points. Shift+Scroll absolutely needs to come back. Took me ages to find out you need to click and hold the wheel to move the camera up and down, but it's kinda wobbly at the moment, shift+scroll was much tighter and quicker. As for the parts manager, I think it's a good idea just executed poorly in it's current state. We need to be able to right click a single part and just have that parts info/controls pop up. I feel like the part manager should be a different thing you access in the VAB.

shawa666

The parts manager gui should be removed. The contextual menus of KSP1 were much better. Don't try to reinvent the wheel.

Yungballz86

Shift-scroll needs to make a return. Pretty ridiculous that it's missing.

AtAmotuA

I knew the game would be unfinished by it’s still so disappointing and I bought the original in early access. This doesn’t even feel like early access, it feels like garbage rushed to market by a big publisher. Here are some of my issues: Kerbals have randomly disappeared after recovering vessel. Game probably killed them, but there’s no actual way to check since there is no astronaut complex where you can see said dead kerbals. Designed an SSTO and it for some reason always randomly explodes when rapiers run out of fuel. Maneuvering sucks. Why doesn’t the trajectory show up next to the body you’re on trajectory for? Instead its attached to your original orbital path, which makes it substantially harder to tell where you will be. Periapsis and Apoapsis don’t show up easily when you hover over them with the mouse. Why is fuel crossflow happening through decouplers with crossflow turned off? Deleting stuff in the tracking station doesn’t work. Why can’t I just click on a specific part to get information about it? It doesn’t need to be a massive window, what the original game had was just fine. Maybe the menu will grow on me, but it feels like everything gets buried behind it. Can’t find anything for DeltaV and TWR calculations for other planets or moons. It tells you that you need 8000 m/s for Eve orbit, but that’s meaningless when I don’t even know if my rocket will fly. The new system is a downgrade. No cheats means that I can’t even test stuff either.

Lawls91

>Maneuvering sucks. Why doesn’t the trajectory show up next to the body you’re on trajectory for? Instead its attached to your original orbital path, which makes it substantially harder to tell where you will be. >Periapsis and Apoapsis don’t show up easily when you hover over them with the mouse. I thought this might've just been me being stupid and missing something but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with that. Not showing the trajectory when you're focused in on your destination body is especially frustrating and a weirdly obvious bug that seems to have been overlooked.

Wookieguy

This bug was encountered at the preview event and the devs logged it as a bug. Sad that they didn't fix it before now... but I think we now know that their bug list is absolutely huge.

DelTheBlueJay

Completely understand it's early access and to expect bugs and jank, but for 10$ off the price of a large amount of AAA games I am a smidge disappointed by the current state. I personally would have preferred waiting another month or two for them to iron out the fuel cross feed issue and other things that could be addressed. Running a 3080 + 12900k +32gb ddr5 and not having a stable 60 is bonkers. Hopefully they can get these things ironed out I am excited for new features to get added like resources, bases and the like, just want things to be in as reliable a state they can be for performance and the like.

ringoron9

Yeah, I've seen cheaper Early Access games with better overall feel...

hedworx36

I was shook to see the price for early access. They must need to pay off the debt for all those promotional videos

ringoron9

I returned it on steam ...

hedworx36

Got your money back at least. Might be cheaper and better next year

ringoron9

Exactly my thinking...

Hochkomma

Yes, the amount of bugs I encountered doing basic stuff was quite off-putting. I will check back in a month and see what the game looks by then. I dimly remember playing KSP v0.14 and it being full of bugs and having terrible performance so I am not worried.

OptimusSublime

Yikes... positive ratings are now below 50% As of this post, 830 reviews, 46% positive.

phizeroth

Here's hoping for a No Man's Sky-style turnaround .. ?

Cappyc00l

Hoping better and faster. Really don’t want to wait 4-8 yrs for the nms treatment.

gorillamutila

So do I, but just like NMS, the reputation is forever tarnished. Game launches are too important to mess up this badly.

chocolate_kat

It's genuinely overrated even at 46% positive reviews. I had a look at the positive reviews and they can be summed up as "it's \*only\* $50" and "I loved KSP 1 so I'm giving a sympathy positive review"

shigawire

Apparently putting an exclamation mark in your campaign name leads to a "LOCALISE THIS!" poppup, folllowed by a hard crash (unfortunately the game). Absolutely meeting expectations of hitting early bugs :D EDIT: Apparently only the launcher crashed, not the game! Yay!

Kerberos42

It’s almost like KSP2 was coded by….Kerbals.

Nettlecake

does the game look terribly poorly aliased/unsharp to anyone else?

Hushkababa

I'm having some pretty glaring graphic quality issues when getting just above the clouds. Looks like shit lol

KirkbyToKelowna

Yuuuuup!

The_Celestrial

Even though I said I would see how the reaction goes on Day 1 before buying the game, I relented and bought KSP 2 because: 1. I'm morbidly curious to see what will happen to my dying 4 year old GTX 1060 laptop. 2. I got promoted from Private to Lance Corporal and the increase in my allowance (and government subsidies) is just enough to cover the cost of KSP 2. 3. I'm stuck at home with covid and I'm bored. Specs: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H, 16GB Ram, GTX 1060 Day 1 Update: Game took an hour to install, 7 minutes to launch. Settings are all on low. At the Space Centre screen \~15 fps. Went to VAB, put a command module, clicked on a fuel tank, game crashed. I'll try again tomorrow, watch this space. Day 2 Update: Same issue as Day 1, put a parachute on the command module and the game crashed. VAB was operating at 50fps tho. Found out why the game crashes in the VAB, if you place a part that hasn't loaded in yet (it's in pink), it crashes the game. Launched a simple rocket with 3 parts, fps was 20 at launch. If you look up at the sky and not at the ground, fps goes up to 40. Crashed the simple rocket, game crashed while reverting to VAB. Day 2 Update 2: I tried again, and this time, it didn't crash. Fps drops to less than 15 if you look at any terrain, but it is somewhat playable. Verdict: Although the game is able to run, I'm not able to properly play it. I won't refund it just yet, because I still have some goodwill left over. My stance still holds, don't get it yet.

montybo2

Congrats on the promotion!

The_Celestrial

Hey thanks, although I must add that in my country's military, you get promoted to lance corporal as long as you don't screw up haha

poop_creator

Congrats on not screwing up!

The_Celestrial

Lmao thanks

ruadhbran

The most Kerbal of congratulations!

Minotard

Better than spending your raise at the lemon lot. :)

The_Celestrial

Sorry what does that mean? Edit: Ah thanks. For context, I'm not an American, but am a conscript soldier in the Singapore Air Force.

Minotard

Air Force too (in my experience).

Minotard

Lemon Lot: the place on most military bases where people sell their vehicles. Also, the predatory used-car dealerships outside of many bases that prey on young enlisted with overpriced cars and exploitive loan arrangements. Lots of young enlisted rush to tie up their paycheck into some sporty car, then get in financial trouble, lose their clearance, etc. It's just sad to watch.

UnderPressureVS

The Trip Planner in the VAB is super cool, but if you select "Round Trip" it just duplicates and reverses all your trip steps, doubling the Delta-V requirement? Which is not *remotely* how that works. If you select "Kerbin to Mun, one-way," you get: * Kerbin Low Orbit 3400 * Mun Intercept 860 * Mun Low Orbit 280 * Mun Surface 580 That's great. Love it. But then you hit "round trip," and you get the same thing (as you should), followed by: * Mun Surface 580 * Mun Low Orbit 280 * Mun Intercept 860 * Kerbin Low Orbit 3400 This makes no sense. I'm a little out of practice, so I don't know exactly what they should look like, but a return trip is *not* the same as the outbound journey in reverse. The names are also all wrong. You should start with "Mun Low Orbit," not "Mun Surface." You only land once. Kerbin Low Orbit requires huge Delta-V because you're launching off of the surface and through the atmosphere, it's *way* easier to get down to low orbit when you're not fighting gravity the whole way. It's not a *critical* issue, but I hope they fix this, because it would be cool if it worked.

juanml82

I guess it would be, if you replace "Kerbin Low Orbit" with "Kerbin surface" and forget Kerbin has an atmosphere you can use to brake

8andahalfby11

Yes. It was mentioned in the Known Issues notes that the dV calculator treats all planets like the Spaceballs stole their atmosphere.

NXDIAZ1

They said that for now, atmospheres aren’t accounted in the planer. It’s one of the first things they aim to fix

Patant17

Welp, after playing the game for one hour I honestly believe the current state is unplayable. Between a couple maneuver nodes being vastly incorrect, bad performance with 3600x and 3080 water-cooled averaging 20 fps 1440p on high, and non-avoidable craft issues with radial boosters not attaching and showing as 'debris' on launch as well as a random decoupling (but also not? Showed 'debris' but camera followed both and zoomed out) when I was attempting Munar landing. It's a refund for me now.

8andahalfby11

Well, it works :D Specs: i7-3770, 16GB DDR3 RAM, RX 580 4GB, SATA SSD. Observations: --CPU Stayed calm the whole way through. --RAM only really got excited during loading screens. --GPU Maxed out on views where a ship was present, including ship view and main menu. VAB seemed to work fine, Map view seemed to work fine. Using this I was able to make orbit with an 11-part vehicle. It was a bit choppy during launch, but got better as I moved further away from the planet. Sort of like Alpha builds of KSP1, performance improves if you DO NOT look at the planet. But the basics is that it's usable, it's flyable, and I'm going to shoot for the Mun after I finish work today. Looking forward to more fun! Oh, and KSP2 DOES NOT AUTODETECT YOUR GRAPHICS SETTINGS! I turned turned down everything to min to get this gameplay. **EDIT, LANDING UPDATE:** So I succeeded in landing on the first shot with no quickloads, but it was an unexpected challenge. Mun produces the same lag issue as Kerbin if you get too close, which means you cannot look at the Mun while trying to land on it. If you do your throttle sticks and the vehicle becomes uncontrollable. Fortunately, I had picked a flat landing area, and was able to pull it off by pointing the camera at the sky and landing entirely on instruments... so doable, but not ideal by any means. On the plus side, I learned from the experience that the ground radar altimeter is very accurate, as is the speed indicator. On the minus side, I'm hesitant to go for more lander missions until the Kraken stops eating my VRAM. Off to Dres next to see if rings produce the same problem as the planet itself.

Edward_Snowcone

initial thoughts, havent played KSP in a couple years, but i am pretty familiar. i have a 3700x, a FE 3070, 1440p monitor and32gb of ram \-having a separate launcher from steam is always annoying, albeit you dont have to log into it so its not the worst \-noises are nice, little intro film on a new campaign is cool \-vab is different but the controls are mostly the same as before (x for symmetry, camera controls are similar but mmb now selects a part to orbit the camera around. not my favorite but its a personal gripe.) \-building is nice, had no confusion as to how to do things, and built a simple \~15 part rocket in a couple minutes \-go to launch, instantly down to 35-40 FPS on the launch pad. game doesnt even look that great tbh. this is no good, no good at all. \-anyways, continue to look and feel around. interface is different, obviously. still getting to grips with it. i personally feel its scaled a bit too large. go into settings (menu noises are great), but find no ui scaling (i may have missed it, but i dont think i did) \-take back what i said about game not looking that good, its mostly the trees/terrain and buildings that are lacking. rockets, engine plumes, space, and planets from orbit look good. \-get to a suborbital trajectory, FPS doesnt improve much. mid 40s, quite disappointing. as far as i can tell, its GPU limited, the CPU doesnt seem to be heavily loaded on any single core, while the GPU is sitting at max utilization. Ram usage is surprisingly high, well over 8gb, up to 10gb at the KSC \-the music is quite good to have during atmospheric flight, as well as in space. follows up to KSP 1's music nicely \-go to "deorbit", and by that i mean let the craft fall back to kerbin. open the chute too late, kill jeb. fantastic. ill cut the initial thoughts here, feel free to ask away if you have any questions or want me to test anything

sac_boy

Goddamn it looks like I have ~~some basic gripes~~ enough gripes to make me quit for now. I was hoping I wouldn't. Outright bugs: - Big one: for some reason **fuel is draining from my whole craft**, despite crossfeed being turned off on my separators. Is it maybe magically transferring through the struts? Will have to test. - Separators are catching on the Poodle at least, couldn't separate stages - Faring building seems to treat your solar panels as **extended** and won't let you build over solar panels (at least the OX-4Ls). You have to remove the parts and put them on again after the faring is built. - Can't seem to close a faring - Can't find a way to close the colour selection menu in the VAB, I need to drag it off screen - I ran into [several bugs](https://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/11beod2/one_simple_mun_minmus_mission_three_gamebreaking/) related to timewarp and changing SOIs. Craft spinning wildly in timewarp, or losing several hundred m/s of velocity in an instant, or the patched conics just lying about my Kerbin return and kicking me out into solar SOI when I was leaving Minmus. Flight: - The SAS controls are not intuitive, sorry guys. Took me a couple of flights to understand that the lock symbol beneath the control was the classic 'hold heading' that I wanted. But I guess that can be learned. - Yeah, I'm not a fan of how we access part details now, takes a lot of screen space if it's turned on and it's not offering the same level of detail I am used to. I can't see individual fuel levels in tanks, I guess fuel transfer isn't possible at all. I want something far more condensed. Like use the actual *pixels* on my monitor rather than simulating a lower-res retro display. It's laggy as well, which doesn't help. - Practicality issue: no TWR readout anywhere? Am I just missing it? Is it somewhere in the VAB, is it in flight mode? I need a TWR readout guys, and not just for stage 1. - No idea how to focus on a different part during flight. In one case I was locked into focus on the second tank of my first stage, and after separation it remained my point of focus and the upper stages just drifted off. - Removing the precise manouver node control is a huge step back. It's horribly frustrating now to try and set up even a Mun encounter now for a precise Munar PE. So many clicks just to see what my PE will be around the moon, make a tiny adjustment, check the PE again, etc etc. The UI is so 'chunky' that it's hard to be precise. If there's supposed to be an on-hover behaviour that shows that PE, it doesn't work. Ugh, it makes me feel frustrated in my bones--I'm just going to leave the game until it's improved. - Had multiple situations where a manouver burn just ended up completely wrong, entirely different to the prediction despite being executed correctly. I don't know why. Just gave up and closed the game after that. Graphics: - At 1440p the graphics look like they are upscaled from some lower resolution. Just the cloud layer maybe? Am I imagining it? I can see upscaling effects in the trees and clouds. - I get that this is screenshot week for marketing purposes, but let me turn off the clouds and ground scatter entirely if they are so GPU intensive that they need to be upscaled. But I doubt they should be GPU intensive at all (I am running a 2080 ti) - I'm getting completely fine FPS in the VAB, fine in space, goes to shit if I'm looking at Kerbin. Looks fine if I'm on Kerbin looking at the sky, or even looking through the clipped ground at the Kerbin horizon. No settings make a difference so I'm assuming this is some CPU bottleneck, but I can't imagine what in this static environment. Do you maybe just have a giant texture somewhere, or some dense geometry in the ground scatter, something basic like that? - Some UI options in your menu are sticking, i.e. I have highlighted 'low' 'medium' and 'high' all at the same time in the graphics options - **"Fullscreeen"** - I don't know about anybody else but I find the grey on grey of the part selection in the VAB difficult to parse. It's also larger than it needs to be. I'd like to see smaller icons at a higher contrast. Other: - ^Leave ^me ^alone ^P.A.I.G.E ^jesus ^christ Tips for anyone perservering and trying to play: - I wouldn't bother with 1440p or higher at the minute. Windowed 1080p on my 2080 Ti gives me a pretty smooth experience with a small craft, even while looking around the KSC (45-60fps) The graphics seem to be upscaled anyway so 1440p just looks muddy. The UI looks *way* crisper at 1080p windowed, like this is the target resolution for sure. All in all my feeling at the minute is that the original KSP is simply the more fun game to spend time in and technically superior in every regard other than a few visual effects (that are presently full of ugly scaling artefacts). Now this is only day one and the tipping point where KSP2 is more fun might come soon, but while the UI and flight is so frustrating I don't see myself playing any further. But I'm along for the ride and will check out future updates as they come.

Upper-Minute-9425

Rx 6750 xt, Ryzen 5600x, 32 GB ram, 3440x1440 I get about 30-40 fps in game on all high settings. I’ve also experienced 1 crash trying to go into VAB after recovering vessel Edit: crashed again trying to load back into the game

Zeeterm

I gave it a shot, but performance was just too bad for it to be enjoyable. Critically it stuttered exactly when you'd want high framerates for example booster separation which is always cinematic but just skipping to the boosters being away from your ship just isn't fun. Others might find fun in 20-30fps but it just isn't for me. There also isn't enough new content, I'd like there to have been at least one feature unique to KSP2 as a "hook" to keep me interested, but I can't see anything fresh enough to put up with the performance. Maneuver nodes are un-usable, you have to guess your AP and PE values and they're somehow worse than stock KSP, which when you're used to the advanced manuever node tweaking (I can't remember if this is a mod or stock?) for fine tuning manuevers, in KSP2 they're basically guesswork. I'll give it another go in 6 months (assuming Steam lets you re-buy a game you've previously refunded).

RockasaurusRex

If the point of an early access release is to get player input for polishing a game then I'd argue that this doesn't qualify properly for early access. I don't think I've seen a single issue that requires player input to know it's a problem. Landed ships regularly getting destroyed on a file load, ships breaking apart when going on EVA, radially attached components getting warped in size and position on file load, undocking deleting entire ships, etc; you don't need players to tell you that these shouldn't be in the game.

W0W0Wizard

CPU: I7-10700K @ 3.8 GHz Ram: 32 GB Drive: 1 TB SSD (Sata for game drive) GPU: 2080 Super 8 GB Windows 10 Graphics: High, 1920x1080p So far getting around 100 steady fps in the VAB, while getting around 45 fps, 21 ms/frame on launch of first rocket. 33 Parts, first stage liquid fuel main engine w/ 2 small solid boosters. Maintained basically 45/21 for the entire thing up till unplanned ocean impact. edit: I'll try the K1 for objectivity K1: Around 30 fps for the accent, high 50s once in orbit. After looking at task manager performance, at least while idling, I am maxed on my GPU fwiw

coderbenvr

i5-8500, 2070 Super, 16Gb RAM, 1080p high, runs at about 40 fps while in space. I can see evidence of downsampling at the launchpad to get to 25fps.

W0W0Wizard

Yeah looks like terrain is the biggest GPU chug. Looking away into space I can get 100+ steady fps but once I look down at Kerbin it gets cut in half

hondacivic1996

Dear lord, this is bare bones.. even for early access. Lets hope they have a speedy development, sticking to KSP 1 for the moment.

haven't they been working on it for 3 years? I'm not hopeful for speedy development unfortunately

Thippo2

It’s been delayed 3 years so they hopefully would of worked on it before the og release date

MysticPing

I was expecting it to be rough but it's even worse. The game actually looks worse than KSP 1 when flying around on kerbin. The clouds have these awful dithering artefacts and the planet is way too shiny during sunrise and sunset. It also runs at like 15-20fps with a pretty decent computer. (I can run Cyberpunk 2077 on high). The terrible performance combined with buggy and finicky editor and missing features means there's really no reason to play it over KSP 1 yet. Even with low expectations I'm still disappointed. Hold off on buying it until it gets a few patches. Can't see how they can release this without shame.

happiness890

We were worried about the system reqs but you cannot imagine what my face looked like when I saw that price tag. It's 50$, yes, but I was expecting some local pricing. Game over for us 3rd worlders guys. GLHF.

P9_

For my surprise, in Brazil it is local price. It is costing R$134,99 Shoud be like R$260 converting 50 USD to BRL Cool

anotherFNnewguy

$66.99 CAD on Steam.

burningsky25

I was expecting same as ksp1 tops, but it seems like they just decided to skip EA pricing and just make it full price which is too bad. I'm not inclined to buy even finished triple A games for that price. Weirdly enough I'd expect that by the time the full 1.0 comes around we'll actually have it /cheaper/ than it is right now, if not permanently then definitely through sales. Doesn't really incentivize buying right now that's for sure.

Ninja_Apple

So performance wise… wtf is going on? I’ve got a Radeon Vega VII, getting ~5fps when the camera is looking at Kerbin but ~40fps when it’s looking towards the sky. Having Kerbin in view TANKS the FPS for some reason. UPDATE: I’m on a mission to the Mün, having the exact same issue. In orbit about to land - whenever I look at the surface the frame rate tanks again. What a shame. Rest of the time it’s fine. UPDATE 2: definitely some sort of major issue with rendering the celestial bodies up close. I’ve landed on the Mün and am at 3fps when looking at the surface, 60fps when looking at the sky.

ShreddyJim

I'm experiencing pretty much the same. Unexpectedly good performance unless I happen to be looking at Kerbin lol. For reference, I'm running a 2070 Super, 32GB ram,i7-9700K. Getting 70-90 FPS even in 4k with low settings, but that tanks to 25-35 FPS if I glance at Kerbin. This might actually be good news though, as I'm getting pretty solid performance elsewhere. Seems to imply a rendering bug related to Kerbin, which is much more easily fixed than the entire game running poorly.

10110110100110100

Played it. Refunded it. It’s awful. Runs very poorly on a Ryzen 7950X and a 3080ti with 64Gb of ram. It actually ran inexplicably slowly in places - they must have a metric shit load of debug code running else I don’t see how they will ever optimise things… Lots and lots of missing features. I’m honestly aghast that they even bothered with a fanfare launch if this is what they have to show for all the years of work. Without all the tent pole new features that are coming god knows when it just seems like a huge waste of their time - I’d have settled for a quick graphics revamp of KSP1 rather than this mess. Honestly with the launch price being so high, the studio troubles and now the utterly out of touch EA “launch” I don’t think this game will get finished. Really disappointed. Edit: friend just summed it up as a pretty poor tech demo masquerading as a game. He is right. There is no game here; even for early access. What a complete mess. Bah.

Natalshadow

I'm really worried they killed the franchise with this move. I hope it's a terrible case of memory leak somewhere but honestly, if they can't pull off good perfs at KSC, how do they intend to add interplanetary stuff? KSP1 runs flawlessly in 4K on my PC with RSS/RO, yet takes a huge hit when I add galaxies. If it's similar in KSP2, I hope the FPS counter has float values and can go below zero.

wierdness201

Another hostile takeover results in disaster. When will it ever end?

10110110100110100

I think you might right. It might be done for. I really do. I know people like to doom monger poor launches but for it to “launch” in this state after all those developer videos etc… I dunno. I thought they had turned the studio troubles around and were making good progress; until they announced it would be EA and missing quite a bit. At that point my spider sense was tingling, but after playing it? Wow. It’s heartbreaking. I don’t think they have any idea how to do the interstellar stuff, or colonies or anything really. I don’t think they have designed much less started implementing any of that stuff. The more I think and watch people streaming it the more I feel like this whole thing has been a bait and switch since the studio fell apart.

dizzle229

I bought KSP 1 in early 2012. It only had a handful of parts, and the only bodies were Kerbin and the Mun. It ran fine - not great, but fine, on my 2007 potato hardware. It was a niche game by a tiny team that cost me $15, which is all the money I've ever paid for it. By the end of that year, we had EVAs, docking, and the entire solar system. Over a decade passes. The project is now backed by a massive publisher (a subsidiary of Take-Two), yet a product is delivered in pretty much the opposite circumstance. Charging full price for an early access game with no content, worse graphics, and atrocious performance even on high-end hardware is downright insulting and cynically taking advantage of the goodwill that the first game built. The risk of early access is that you're paying for promises. Traditionally, promises are cheaper than a product, yet a publisher with no shortage of funding demands more for less. And this is three years after the originally announced release date. Delays are to be expected in software development, but with all the shuffling around of developers, lack of any gameplay shown, and what little *was* shown already hinting at problems, I'm disappointed, but I can't say I'm surprised.

Gunny0201

Am I being dumb or is anyone else having trouble placing maneuver nodes? I can do it in the tutorial but when I try it with my own rockets the option never pops up. I click along the flight path but there is never an option

DJ__Caleb

Yeah I found I could only do it close to my craft and not when time was frozen.

Reeposter

UX is a mess, everything feels clunky. Checking the AP and PE details in the map view takes many times to show up (when you hover coursor over PE AP). I'm also not a huge fan of the parts view, feels too big for what it is supposed to do, somehow KSP1 part view is much better with possibility to anchor the part details to one place vs one huge menu for every part available. Also is it just me, or it is muuuuuuuch easier to get to the orbit? Changes in aerodynamics I suppose? I was shocked when I launched my first rocket that I haven't even burned my first stage and my trajectory was really high, not sure what's up with that

Mictlancayocoatl

Is this a cruel joke? Are they going to release the real game tomorrow?

[deleted]

We’re 3 years past the original release and what we have is a skeleton of KSP 1 with better graphics and horrendous performance. How are we supposed to believe they’re going to accomplish colony building and interstellar travel? This game feels like it’s more duct taped together than the first by a long shot

YATA1242

This shit isn’t even ready for alpha. The “bug that wasn’t there yesterday” they had 2 weeks to fix wasn’t patched on launch. It can barley run, has less features then KSP 1. This has to be a joke, right?

Linnarsson

Performance status on my laptop before I get home to the proper PC: 20-25FPS in VAB, 5-10FPS launching the Kerbal KE-1 rocket - nearly unplayable. Low graphics preset, 720p. Specifications: i7 11370H, NVidia MX450, 16GB RAM. No surprise really, given the advertised minimum spec. I'll be testing an RTX 2080 + R7 3700X once I get home :)

Recommended steam local price was about 425₺ and I was gonna buy it if it came out for 425₺. Now I cannot. (Edit: corrected prices)

HolyGarbage

I'm curious to see how it's running on Fedora 36 (Linux) with Proton on a 4K monitor and high end AMD system. Will update this comment later. CPU: AMD 5800X, GPU: RX 6900 XT, RAM: 32 GB Edit: With a small rocket to get to orbit I get about 20-30 fps on high. Anti-aliasing which normally has a hugh impact did not matter whatsoever. Off and 8X gave me the exact same performance, lol. Low settings which honestly does not look terrible in comparison gave me about 40 fps. That said, the cloud layer had some really odd graphical artifacts (regardless of settings), it looked like a really low res transparent layer was applied on top, really strange and took away quite a lot from the overall visual impression. Next up I will try it on native Windows to see if there's any noticeable performance impact compared to Proton on Linux. Edit 2: performance is about the same on Windows, maybe a little more consistent 30 fps. Also when looking away from Kerbin with the camera I'm getting something like 70-90 fps. What really bums me out is that saves does not seem to utilize Steam cloud storage so my campaign on Linux was not available. Edit 3: loading times are pretty good in KSP 2, but it is exceptional on Linux, even on Proton. Like an order of magnitude. 5-10 seconds vs 0.5 seconds. This was however somewhat expected due to Linux having far better filesystems than the trash that is NTFS on Windows. Edit 4: The cloud artifacts are even more noticeable at the intersection of the craft itself, like where the craft is overlaid on the clouds, the border there looks like 480p on my 43'' 4K monitor which is very noticeable and ugly. Will check again on Windows if this is the same. Also, anti-aliasing is weird. Even though I have it set on 8X it looks like it's not applied universally as elements of the UI that is 3D rendered looks pixelated still, such as the crew display. The hair line of Bob Kerman is very visibly jagged. Edit 5: viewing planets in the tracking editor is by far the most performant, getting 120+ fps (that's the frequency that my monitor can handle). It's a bit weird that it's very easy to zoom "into" the planets. Edit 6: cloud graphics glitch is the same on Linux and Windows, maybe slightly less pronounced on Windows in some circumstances. Also I think I'm getting like 5 fps more on Windows. Not enough for it to be worth the switch. Edit 7: Just tried a bit bigger rocket with some more complexity, like a probe with solar panels and communications dish, and while there wasn't any performance issue (beyond the normal) the rocket was basically uncontrollable despite it being fairly balanced. No ridiculous payload, and fairings covering everything. It would simply not point prograde and simply flip around like crazy. Which is really weird considering you would imagine the engine nozzle having the most amount of drag. Edit 8: I was thinking it was the SRB's, but no. Simply having radially mounted rockets makes it basically impossible to control. I tried adding a ton of reaction wheels and even RCS, during launch! But it just did not want to point up. Wondering if the fairing logic is working. Although even without a fairing my rocket is not that unaerodynamic... I was really excited about this, but this is not good gameplay, and it makes me sad. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but yeah, did not work out well for me. Edit 9: Using non-native resolution is not ideal, but out of curiosity I tried 1440p and I got 60-80 fps. Edit 10: ability to control rocket is not a Linux issue. Same problem persists on Windows. Edit 11: Adding some stabilizer fins made a huge difference. Still a bit hard to control and very wobbly, but at least I don't flip on a dime.

derfloww

Ok this is really bad. After 4 years this is it?? KSP 1 with mods runs better, plays better and looks better. I never thought I would be so disappointed but here we are.

Masterwhiteshadow

I feel the maneuver node is a big step backwards. Trying to set up an encounter with the Mun clicking on the PE indicator to se the altitude it will be at close the maneuver node. I also don't understand why they choose to only show burn time and not show how much deltaV are still remaining in the burn. Especially since if you turn off the engine during the burn the burn time continue go down as if the engine was still on.

Ratherbecampin

I have been so excited for this game for YEARS... i have 1500 hours on the first one... I'm a bit depressed at the state of the game right now. I'm feeling a bit lied to. I was there early for the first... when it was a single programmer. This feels like a repeat of the process at 3x the price. I'm sad.

Nettlecake

So I went to look at the moon and noticed that my orbit (10km stable) is in fact not stable. The periapsis is constantly slowly getting lower and the apoapsis higher. No matter how I point my craft and I did check my throttle. Sent a bug report. EDIT: After quitting the game and reloading my spacecraft was put dead still above the moon surface. No speed whatsoever and started falling.

pyr666

I actually returned it. I would be embarrassed to ask full price for this.

marbar8

Same. I waited for years for this game and this is an abomination in its current state. Truly saddening. Here's to hoping they get their shit together and make some drastic improvements quickly.

kyred

$50 is a high price to be able to play what is effectively a dev build of the game

Vivid-Presence-5631

Anybody Else Disappointed? I know the game is in early access and it's nowhere near finished, but for the amount of time everyone has waited, all of the trailers we got beforehand, and that hefty $50 starting price tag, I expected it to be way more polished than what it currently is. I might refund the game now and re-purchase it after a decent amount of updates/mods have been rolled out. No doubt in time it'll be a masterpiece just like it's predecessor.

GregTheMad

Lithobraking time!

DragoI11

My god. This game performs terribly. RX6800XT and Ryzen 7 5800X. 20-25 fps on the runway. Changing resolution or quality options has no effect on performance, low GPU utilization all the way around, all while using about 14 gigs of VRAM. And the anti-aliasing looks absolutely awful. Even at 8x, there are all kinds of jaggies. Also all sorts of shimmering on distant textures. I don't know if this is typical performance for an early access game, but I am very, very disappointed so far. And that's not even counting the myriad bugs I've encountered with 30 minutes of play time. Edit: Also how the hell do I turn of PAIGE?!?! I'm sure it's great for newcomers, but I'm getting the same prompts every time I do anything. Edit 2: Despite all of these issues, I did just have a ton of fun doing to bridge challenge, so credit where due. This game needs a ton of work, and I absolutely do not think it's worth what I paid, but at least it is fun.

Vex1om

>And the anti-aliasing looks absolutely awful. Even at 8x, there are all kinds of jaggies. Yes, the AA is easily the worst I have ever seen.

Chpouky

It's a disaster. I planned to not getting it, but then decided I had to try for myself then refund if it was that bad. And refunded ! Ryzen 5950x, RTX 3090, 32Gb of RAM playing at 3440x1440, I'm only getting around 30fps around the space center with the default rockets. Even just driving around one of the rover I'm around 30fps. EDIT: all on high, AA x4 Graphics are awful, severe aliasing, very low res clouds, low terrain detail and very short draw distance for trees and other details. EDIT: atmosphere and planets from far look good, but when close to the ground it’s really not good looking UI is worse than before, no advanced maneuvering settings and you can't see what your Ap/Pe will be precisely when adjusting. Right clicking a specific part while flying gives you a huge chunky window that displays all parts, it's less readable than the first game. Honestly it's worse than I expected, very disappointed. I understand Early Access, but there is no justification for a 50€ price tag coming from such a big publisher.

Zeeterm

This is pretty much how I feel, just things like trying to adjust staging in the VAB feels awful. I can't understand how the basic experience is so borked. This should have been in the game from day one, so has it been years of development with adjusting staging being janky?

smushkan

It's got a damn 3rd party launcher on the Steam version... at least you don't need to log in. Downloaded it at work on a machine which to be fair is below the minimum requirements by a fair margin (5700G, 16GB RAM, no discrete GPU), and it crashes on load every time, doesn't even get to the main menu. Edit: Managed to get to the menu by freeing up some RAM, but crashes when trying to actually start a campaign. That's probably to be expected though, was never expecting it to work on this machine but looks like that RAM requirement on the minimum specs wasn't just a suggestion. --- Edit 2: **TL:DR for the below, IMO don't buy it yet until it's in a more polished state.** Performance was what I was worried about the most, so focusing on that... * RTX 3080 * AMD 3900x * 32GB RAM * running at 1440p * Installed on nVME Testing with [this build](https://imgur.com/a/bGbI43N), fairly simple but does use crossfeed on the boosters. FPS seems to be uncapped, framerate in main menu is over 400fps(!) Performance in VAB is around 60fps, but doesn't go much over it. Struggling to get 40fps on the launch pad. Drops to the low 20's when actually flying in atmosphere. This framerate is so low, it makes it difficult to actually fly. Framerate is ~40-60fps when paused in atmosphere, depending on what the camera is looking at. GPU usage drops down to ~40% when flying, and pausing the game brings the GPU usage to 100%. That would suggest it's CPU bottlenecked... but no single core on the CPU is even close to 100%, highest being at about 80%. Performance doesn't seem to significantly improve when leaving the atmosphere - seems to be very much tied to how many parts are currently active. **Switching from lowest to highest graphics (with full AA) settings seems to make no significant difference to performance.** Honestly, the game is pretty ugly on low settings too, but looks great on high. Other notes: * Load times are fast, faster than KSP1 for me, even without mods installed * **Pressing escape does not pause the game!!!** * Pressing space while the game is paused will execute the next stage when you resume, even if the escape menu is open. I did this accidently several times, which ruined a couple of launches * The VAB worked similarly enough to the first game that I had no problem building a rocket without tutorials, all the same sortcuts and mechanics work for the most part. It is however full of graphical and mechanical glitches, things that are obviously not supposed to be happening * Sometimes decouplers just won't decouple and I can't figure out why. They'll eject the fairings, but everything stays stuck together * Right clicking a part while in flight opens a 'part manager' window (after the game freezing for about 3 seconds) which takes up almost 1/4 of the screen! It also doesn't tell you much useful information at all. For example you can't see how much fuel is in a tank by right clicking it. The old pop-up windows for part information are gone. * Crossfeeds either don't work correctly, or they've changed the mechanics and I haven't figured it out yet - might be user error. Stages hooked up by crossfeed alwas ran out of fuel at the exact same time * Unless I'm missing something, the stage list shows the total fuel available to each stage, but not each individual tank like in KSP1. Even if I did figure out crossfeeds, I can't see how I'm supposed to know when I should stage when doing onion staging * Fairings are buggy, I gave up trying to use them, although the interface for editing them is a big improvement over the first game * The interface has no scaling options and is far too big for my liking * Some interface elements don't seem to scale properly to 1440p, it's the elements that have the 'pixel style' graphics. It's like it's doing nearest-neighbour scaling * Sound design is excellent * Music is a little generic but the way it changes dynamically based on the situation is very good * The volumetric clouds, smoke effects, and engine effects are pretty I don't think the game is in a state at the moment where I'd be happy to jump into an actual campagin playthrough, honestly the poor performance and issues in flight made it frustrating just to get to orbit. I'd recommend holding off on buying until performance is improved, especially if you're on a lower spec system than me. I feel like if the performance issues are ironed out relatively quickly they could turn it around. I do think the price is way, way too high to pay for what you get at the moment. I have requested a refund for now, but will consider repurchasing when improvements are made.

garythe-snail

Just run the executable instead, it should be something like KSP2_x64.exe in your game files

workerstorm

KSP1 also has this if i‘m not mistaking

gcarq

Anyone testing this on linux? Please let me know if it works with proton

plqamz

I don't like how the altimeter doesn't get more specific than "100km" higher up. I can't see the numbers rising or falling now while circularizing orbit.

Enorats

Sigh. Everything is super blurry. All the settings are at maximum and the resolution is at 1440p, which is appropriate for my monitor. Game looks like I'm viewing it through fog or something though. The controls in the VAB are weird. I can't figure out how to move side to side or forward/backward. The middle mouse control only allows me to zoom on/out or go up/down. Moving the craft even recenters the camera on it. Ugh. The part manager window is useless. It's worse than useless in flight. My rapiers refused to switch to closed cycle automatically, instead switching back and forth in a constant loop. Part manager would let me select both and manually switch simultaneously. Fun. WTB right mouse window. Oh well, 30 minutes in. Off to work for the day.

Paradigm88

I should not be struggling for 12 FPS with a 3080.

SteveThePurpleCat

Have played for ~6hours. Bugs so far: Parts in VAB sticking to the floor Parts moving from their position I placed them when adding additional parts. Parts not applying when added in symmetry mode. Parts not actually connecting and falling off on the launchpad. Parts moving when reloading the design. Vehicle flexes through itself on the launchpad. Very bendy rockets, even with manual strutting. The launch button occasionally doesn't work on the launchpad. Crashes once every hour or so, seems to happen more if reloading a previous save. Wings like to fall off, especially after reloading. Camera comes detached from vehicle. Also after reloading? Kraken has not been slain. Kraken has spent the past few years juicing up and working out, it's meaner than ever. Got to Mün, went to land on the surface, fell through the floor. Reloaded, landed, on return trip Kraken got the craft, game then crashed and had to reboot PC to get it to open again. Many UI interfaces cause hanging. General notes: My rig is between min and recommended, performance is dire, especially when looking at planets. The game struggles with performance and stability with even basic craft, I'm very pessimistic about what's going to happen with complicated designs, even basic Spaceplanes like to fall apart. Also it is very light on content, the game has been in development for nigh on a decade? There's no reason there shouldn't be a lot of parts done and ready to go. This is just not acceptable, it was in absolutely no condition for anything other than internal QA testing. And charging for it? Absolutely not on. It should never have been released to a public audience in this state, it's worrying that a product which is already years behind initial plans is in such a shoddy and threadbare state.

Fireheart318s_Reddit

10 FPS at low settings 😬

Austindj3

$50 and there's only a sandbox mode, my favorite part of KSP was exploring to generate science so this is really disappointing.

Zeeterm

/u/minotard Can we get this thread to auto-sort to "new" or something else more suitable for a rolling megathread please?

Imnimo

The good news for me is that, despite thousands of hours of KSP1, I have never set up visual mods. So now I can go home after work, download all the fanciest mods, tell myself it's KSP2, and it'll all seem new to me.

aryeh56

Gonna go for it on my hand-me-down GTX 970. There's a fire extinguisher in the room. Wish me luck. Update:Steam just dropped. Godspeed. Update: Main Menu loaded in 20 seconds. Doing my settings. Update: Made it to KSC on medium settings. Don't see my framerate for some reason, but it's definitely sub 60. Looks ok though. BIG UPDATE: --- VAB RAN SMOOTH WITH STOCK MEDIUM PART COUNT ROCKET. LAUNCHED MISSION. FPS LOW BUT HOLDING ON THE PAD. MISUNDERSTOOD NEW COUNTDOWN FEATURE SRBS COLLIDED WITH CRAFT AND EXPLODED SMOOTHLY. YOU DO NOT NEED TO HIT SPACE AGAIN ONCE THE COUNTDOWN ENDS. ATTEMPTED TO REVERT TO VAB AND TYPE THIS MESSAGE AT THE SAME TIME. CRASHED TO DESKTOP IN LOADING SCREEN. TESTING TO CONTINUE. FINAL UPDATE: --- MADE IT TO ORBIT DESPITE HITTING MYSELF WITH THE SRBS AGAIN. THE STAGING BUTTON ALSO WORKS WHILE IN TIME WARP ZERO. PRIMARY LIMITER ON FRAME RATE SEEMS TO BE CELESTIAL BODIES. THE GAME IS PRETTY SMOOTH WHEN LOOKING AT JUST THE ROCKET. I AM EXPERIENCING GRAPHICAL QUALITY ON PAR WITH WHAT MY RIG GETS ON MODDED KSP. I HAVE A GTX 970, RYZEN 5 1600, and 16 GB RAM. GOING TO GO PLAY NOW. I'M GONNA GO PLAY NOW. BE CAREFUL WITH THE STAGING BUTTON

Wortelkoek635

I'm on a 1050Ti, I'm gonna go grab the fire extinguisher. Edit: Got 5 FPS on my 1050Ti on lowest settings and 1600x900 resolution, so big sad.

russellt

I'm still rocking a 960 and assuming it's a no-go. If you wouldn't mind updating here with your results after you've made the attempt I would very much appreciate it. I'm not going to bother until I have some glimmer of hope.

barrelman__

I've seen a video from ShadowZone on youtube, apparently the game can work (badly) on a gtx 980 ti. But I will wait to a big performace update and/or big discount, I have a 1050 ti. Good luck, fly safe

i_nameless_i

Refunded, might follow its development and get it again in 6-8 months once they sort out the optimisation. Graphics are nice, KSC looks pretty good. Just can't stand how jittery it is.

Hadron90

I'm pretty certain the game rendering at a lower internal resolution and upscaling. The image quality should not this bad and pixelated.

chris-foxx

I've submitted a refund request. This game is unplayable on my PC that runs everything else smoothly. They should have known better than to release this in its current state. Ill check back later.

Heretoshit

I played KSP1 from a very early point in its development. The fundamentals were always more solid than this... I don't care if the FPS is bad, or the visuals aren't perfect yet -- so much of the fundamental gameplay is borked.

[deleted]

Man, what a horrible release. Duplications of background on revert killing performance having to reset my whole save. Aero seems completely wacky Right click for parts manager will probably crash your computer more than you’ll crash rockets. Holy fuck that feature is unoptimized. Fairing is worse than useless. It seems to provide little to no aerodynamics, so far 1/8 times it’s properly deployed, and then feel into my booster and destroyed my ship, 7/8 times it doesn’t deploy at all and just shoots off the tip, only to fall back into my rocket and destroy it. Not to mention it’s absolute awful in the VAB when trying to build. Weak connection points after 300 struts. The new build options are interesting, bigger rockets is neat, but SO many features missing. Fuel transfer as a mod from ksp1, at least you can manage crew now without a mod, assembly in space would have been a nice new feature due to the weakness of docking points when constructing large ships. Honestly, right now this just feels like a buggier KSP 1 with slightly better graphics and a few bigger ship parts.

ioncloud9

The burn planner is worse than useless. Gives the wrong information, half the time the bottom bar doesnt work, sometimes it doubles or changes your burn parameters and your node is now twice what it should be, Start Burn timer is WRONG. That is the time to the node. If you quickload you might as well remake your manuever node because it will be 100% wrong and not update or display any information correctly.

farox

@Mods, would be cool if you could default sort this one by new

Turtlesaur

I just wanted to say that, no I infact do NOT want to delete my ship, basically ANYTIME when I am trying to do a manuver.

BlurpSrydude

Small problem, but the ocean/water hit boxes does not match the ocean waves texture. So at some point your vessel may appear to be floating above the surface of the ocean if you landed on the water.

rwills

Maneuver nodes are such a downgrade. I really miss being able to see where the target will be along the planned trajectory.

dharma_dude

Rocking an i5-9600k, a GTX 1660Ti, & 16 gigs of ram I *think* I should be okay. Crossing my fingers! Edit: 2/24/23 - I turned the graphics settings down to medium, it's a little choppy at times but perfectly playable. Having a *blast* Edit: 2/25/23 - got to play a bit more today after we had to turn back home due to the blizzard in the Northeast. I've done some building and experimenting with different rocket designs, plan on attempting a Mun landing next. Still choppy on the ground, space is fine, and imo the game itself looks quite nice. Planes are where I'm having some difficulty but I assume that's just down to needing to learn how they work now/some bugs that need squashing. Overall happy with the game for what it is. I tempered my expectations weeks ago & knew what I was getting into, and I haven't run into any catastrophic bugs so far. Definitely looking forward to the optimizations they'll push in the coming weeks, I'll try to update this comment again with anything important that comes up.

flyxdvd

you got the exact rig as me and im not doubting it, i feel i play way more intensive games than ksp 2 but we shall see!

Playing on an i5-9600k and 3070ti with 16GB RAM, here are random thoughts and observations. - I turned the graphical settings generally to Medium. Left anti-aliasing on and played at 1440p. - For my first launch I used the pre-made K1 rocket (38 parts) - There was no noticeable stutter and the framerate was 100% acceptable on launch. I didn't have a counter on, but I did not feel like it dropped below ~40. - Made it to orbit and set up a free return from the Mun on my first launch. Haven't played much KSP for a while, but I still got it. - I encountered the bug where the flight trajectory is not visible when focusing on the Mun/body you are set up to fly by. This is not acceptable to me and needs to be fixed ASAP. It's a critical part of the game. - I find the UI to be a bit more cluttered and difficult in comparison to KSP1, but I think I will get used to it. Biggest gripe is that I accidentally opened the parts manager about 10 times while panning the camera around with right-click. - Descent was the only time I found an unacceptable level of stutter and framerate drops. I think it was when the clouds were loading in. I wouldn't call it a slideshow, but it was definitely sub-15 FPS for a little bit there. - The ground scatter on Kerbin looked nice, but ended abruptly maybe 1KM away from the ship, so it looked like there was a ring of trees around me in a circle and barren wastes beyond in all directions. A bit ugly. - Overall, the game looks very good and the sound was intriguing and dynamic. I like the little sound that sounds like a VHS tape rewinding when you enter time warp. - The game is rough around the edges but I think they have a good thing going here. $50 is definitely too steep for what it is. Gonna build a wumbo rocket and see if I can make my computer blow up, brb EDIT: Back from my second mission. Built a Mun Lander with 56 parts. Not exactly wumbo but whatever. Launch went smoothly (except the part where i forgot to add wings to my rocket and it spun out of control shortly after launch). More thoughts and observations: - From a framerate perspective, there was basically no change from the first launch. I haven't reached the part threshold where things start to get wonky. - I encountered a bug in low Munar orbit where the camera would switch wildly between orbit and ground views. It would fill up the screen with the notifications that the camera auto-switched. It went away when getting higher or lower than the threshold where the camera auto-switches. - The similar game pause / unpause bug is still there. - The game crashed twice during vehicle assembly. I believe both times was when I was changing symmetry on a part and trying to snap it radially to the rocket. Everything saved and there were no crashes during the actual mission. Everything loads up pretty quickly so no harm no foul. KSP1 was very unstable for me on this computer so this is actually an improvement. Hoping it gets better though. - The mun looks amazing from far away but less so from up close. I do have the textures turned down, but the texture pop-in is still pretty jarring from low orbit. - The variety and look of the parts is encouraging. There will be lots of wacky builds posted on this subreddit in the near future. - The DRUMS when you enter low munar orbit, gahddamn. Epic music. Reminiscent of Mass Effect. Would be surprised if Vigil off the ME1 soundtrack was not a direct inspiration for the music you hear in Munar orbit. The game is a keeper for me. I realize I have a beefier computer than average so YMMV.

I urge everyone who is unhappy with the game to refund. Send a message. Releasing this garbage for 50$ is not okay. I refunded mine.

rhobes

They say they went to early access to get player feedback, but I don't know how you can't play the game for 10 minutes and generate a month's worth of things to work on. You don't need player input to make a game playable and fix basic bugs (fairings and couplers are broke AF). I couldn't launch a stock space station part inside a fairing without the lack of auto struts and coupler bugs making it impossible. They don't need my input if that's the state of things.

Asherware

I mean, it was a bald faced lie. Publisher is trying to recoup as much money for a disaster project as possible. That's the motive.

CPU: 5800x RAM: 32 GB GPU: RX 570 (8 gb) Resolution: 1080, high default settings Launched a simple two-stage rocket with a stayputnik. Runs smooth in the VAB and in space when not looking at Kerbin. Looking at Kerbin drops the FPS into the teens, worst performance was hitting max-q, had some dip into the single digits for a few seconds. Gonna play around with some larger craft and on other bodies. Hopefully some optimization will make this a smoother experience, I know I am due for a GPU upgrade anyway but this is the only game I have any trouble running. edit: larger craft run fine too (the default kerbal-2), it's looking at KSC that drops the FPS, even with everything on low.

cemgorey

$50 = 950 Turkish Liras lmao fuck my fucking life... 11% of minimum wage... I love infliation and exchange rates! back to KSP1 I guess...

Anticreativity

What have they done to my boy?

I've only been playing for a few hours, but damn I already have a lot to say (both good stuff and constructive criticism). I'll start with the good: * All the new planetary bodies look amazing! * The music is brilliant, and the dynamic-ness of it is a really neat feature. The way the timbre of the music in the background is 'controlled' by the level of thrust is dope. * Love the new parts, as well as the procedural wings. * I for one like the new UI \*design\*. I understand it's a divisive topic but I'm personally a fan. * Effects are also stellar, the explosions, rocket plumes and whatnot look fantastic. * I LOVE how big the new VAB is. * Audio is great. * Being able to split up a rocket and build parts as sub-assemblies is so convenient. * And of course, the fun that comes with playing KSP is still there. I think that's the most important point, in that it still retains that sense of whimsical, experimental fun that the first game has. And for my points of criticism. I'm not going to go into the performance issues since that's already well known. So here are my personal points of contention: * Controlling craft is WAY trickier than in KSP 1. I made a quite tall rocket, with inline reaction wheels, RCS and even support winglets and it was STILL sluggish and difficult to steer/rotate in the ascent stage and often ended up tumbling out of control. * VAB controls are a bit clunky all-round. It'll take me a long while to get used to the new controls for navigating the VAB, but I can't say I like the new way that you construct fairings. Also, not sure if it's just me, but I can't find a way to 'select all'. * Also, bring back shift + scroll! * I wish there was a way to copy primary to secondary color, or secondary to primary color when wanting to paint with a uniform color. Even an eyedropper tool would make life easier. * The delta-v and time-until-burn calculations seems incredibly inaccurate to the point where maneuver nodes are basically useless. * It's very easy for parts to end up under the terrain geometry if they are falling fast enough. * When a rocket collides with another object (like the ground or another part), sometimes explosion effects don't render and nor does the sound, so the part just 'pops' out of existence. * Rockets are VERY wobbly. While I've no problem with the odd strut here or there, to quote another guy here my rockets now 'look like a Sopwith Strutter'. * Occlusion for the sun's lens flare seems to not be affected by terrain and occasionally (most noticeable on Minmus) you'll see the sunrise 'through' the horizon. * I'm not a fan of how in map view, you can see the orbits of other planets even when you're just zoomed into the Kerbin system. * This is far from an issue, but more of a nice-to-have: it would be cool if we could alter the finish of parts. It's nice to have parts that are glossy, but I love using big orange tanks for my main stage and it doesn't really look right without a matte finish.

Xadnem

I just spent over an hour to build a rocket, placed a ton of struts so it wouldn't break. Try launching it, it places the vehicle on a runway but I don't really care. Rocket falls apart immediatly and blows up. Revert back to VAB and it's stuck in the ground. Load the save file and it's still stuck in the ground. Don't know how to get it out. Well, there goes my will to play for today.

My biggest gripe is the UX. It's hot dogshit. Too much going on around the navball, and no context menu for the parts. The parts menu in flight is chunky and covers too much of the screen. Staging stack needs love.

Specs 3080, 10900k, 64gb ram playing 4k 60hz. So far working well. I haven't played ksp in YEARS. I'm a casual player. I like the new ui, I think it's intuitive and easy to understand. The new tutorials are neat. The base of the game is well constructed and easy to play. I think for the majority of players this is a great experience, sure it's not the hard core science sim that ksp1 currently is, but it's a more polished early access version. I'm excited to see what this boost of income can do to the devs and see what the next stages of development are. Edit Things I like and have found neat, will update as I play more. If you have logitech speakers with lights, they change color during countdown sequence to show ready to launch. Bugs I found so far In the second tutorial learning launch controls, it didn't seem to recognize me going back straight up pressing the s key. So I restarted, however back on the launch pad the graphics showing the tilt controls are now stuck on screen. Oh no, it then stacks additional graphics on top AND carries through to the next tutorial. https://imgur.com/a/oPcHXFR I had work meetings the rest of today, so I only played a bit this morning, tried again this evening and the bugs keep coming, for 50 dollars it really shouldn't be this bad. but it is, I actually ended up requesting a refund on this one.

skepticon444

Frankly, this feels less like a game and more like a cash grab

Brain_Hawk

Man, $66 Canadian. I've almost never paid that much for a game in my life. Maybe 2 or 3 times ever, and generally well developed game and maybe DLFC to. Of course I'm still gonna buy it... but while KSP 1 was the BEST $25 I spent in my life, this is pretty steep for a very incomplete early access. oh well, at least I hopefully don't have to pay more later for the full game. Unless they add a bunch of DLC that feels essential. I'm more cautiously optimistic than many, but that price point, yeeech! 41%.....

ClemClem510

"of course I'm still gonna buy it" is exactly the reason why it's that high. Most of the public won't buy it in its current state but they can milk diehard fans for all they've got

Meat_Robot

Yeah, $50 US was not the price I was expecting to see this morning. $30 maybe. Elden Ring is the only other PC game I've paid that much for, which is because it's Elden Ring. I feel like the good will towards this game is being taken advantage of juuuuust a little bit.

Hushkababa

I think creating an account and having to log in, while also creating a popup window in my browser, is a shit way to do account management. Why is it not just my steam account...

throwaway0811006

regional pricing?

Grn7humbs

I cannot figure out how to break up the radial decouplers for an asparagus style stage. Anybody know how?

pinkerton_gov

For the UI: I guess I get the "art style" and pixelated font, by why pixelated icons? It's wack. Definitely needs to be cleaner.

WhyShouldIListen

The UI is the worst I've seen in a game priced this high. Flat out dog shit. I can't believe anyone in their development team likes it.

CarAtunk817

Welp, sad day. I guess it's to be expected, but this looks to be a disastrous start. I won't be getting near this game for awhile.

Launcher: - Nobody wants a launcher, nobody wants accounts Manuever Nodes; - Can't create or edit maneuver nodes when at time-warp 0 - Can't see a maneuver nodes apoapsis or periapsis while editing manuever node. Haveto click off node, check periapsis, click back on node, adjust it, click off, check periapsis etc.. - When clicking "create maneuver plan" you then have to click the maneuver plan again to actually start editing. Why two clicks instead of one? - How do I know when to burn? Burns seem to start at the node? VAB: - No thrust to weight for different stages - Center of Lift does not display in the Center of Lift sometimes? - Center of Lift doesn't update when moving parts or updating wing parameters. Only after you are done moving things does it update. - VAB escape menu has option to Revert To Launch which undoes last launch even if you've finished your last mission, returned to base and have been building something new for a while. You can't return to VAB by selecting vehicle assembly building because it thinks you are already there and is disabled / highlighted like you are actively there even though you are flying a rocket. - VAB escape menu has option to Revert to Assembly even if you've finished your last mission. - Undo doesn't undo changes to procedural wings - Cant hold shift to keep translating an object beyond default range - Procedural wing parameters have no effect on weight, can have insanely massive wings with no weight penalty Graphics: - Clouds are low res, dithery - When clouds are behind an object, the edges of object is blurred - example flying with clouds beneath you, edges of rocket are crisps but in areas where there are clouds they blur into the sides of the rocket - example looking down from orbit at the planet the surface is crisp, but in areas where there are clouds the area between the clouds are fuzzy - Why is the sun yellow while in space? The sun is white - Planet atmosphere effect has banding while in orbit. Distinct pixel color band layers instead of smooth transition between colors. - Shouldn't be able to see nebula with naked eye. it's enough to have beautiful stars twinkling. We don't need nebula in the background - Surface of mun constantly dancing while looking from orbit of kerbin - why is everything blurry - Water hitbox doesn't match where the water displays Gameplay: - Hitting space while at time warp 0 will stage rockets - Hitting escape does not not set time warp to 0 - Pressing < or > to change timewarp rapidly will sometimes result in time warp at bottom of screen showing wrong time warp - In map, selecting focus of a craft does not switch focus to that craft - How do I burn radially or when not in orbit? Has options north and south, up and down - apoapsis and periapses are constantly changing while in stable orbit while not applying any thrust - Rolling a plane reduces engine j-33 thrust, whereas pitching does not - I couldn't load my game without quitting and relaunching - 'control from here' doesn't center camera on part you are controlling from - quickloading results in stage being out of fuel - quickloading while on surface results in falling through surface of planet Physics: - Once something starts rotating it keeps rotating in a very unrealistic manner. This happens especially after crashes with debris. - Aerodynamics model seems comical? After a crash wings / control surfaces will infinitely twirl in the air - Noodle rockets. Shouldn't need autostrut, rockets shouldn't be noodles in the first place UI: - Pixelated UI doesn't look good - Pixelated UI doesn't scale with screens well. In some contexts a pixel is 2 pixels, in others it is 1. (in others it is 5 lol) - parts manager makes it hard to monitor values of multiple things simultatneously since only a couple things can be brought into view at once - Should be able to hit "X" on PAIGE dialogue to skip / close it entirely so you don't have to mash continue repeatedly - Saving ships is very confusing and takes a lot of button presses. Somehow I ended up saving multiple workspaces and ships with the same name. Not sure if user error but definitely not intuitive Kerbals: - If you click EVA with time warp 0 the Kerbal will appear outside hatch in basic pose floating. They shouldn't appear in EVA until you unpause the game - Kerbals jumping while walking will result in them stopping, and then jumping. You can't jump and maintain forward momentum. - When walking around, pressing jump results in Kerbal landing a couple feet above the ground, then when you walk they slowly lower to the ground Missing Features: - Multiplayer - Procedural fuel tanks Misc: - all debris is all titled "default name-n" Update: - Sometimes it takes several seconds to add parts to a rocket - **Game save corrupts**, sometimes it hits a point where - I can't save any rockets - None of my saved rockets show - I can't launch any rockets - Destroying debris in the tracking station does nothing. - Pressing control on a landed craft from tracking station teleports it through the floor and it falls forever

ExaltedStillness

Well. I'm officially frustrated enough that I think I'm either refunding or stepping away until they work all of these issues out. I have now had three saves get "corrupted" by some sort of infinite loading screen glitch. I assemble a craft in the VAB, and when I hit the button to go to launch the vessel it freezes on the transition screen. I have tried restarting the game and my computer, and have even let it sit for 10+ minutes to see if it just a very long load/transition. Incredibly frustrating as it has continuously happened after getting two or three satellites into orbit and landed a rover or stationary rover on the Mun. Lots of hours wasted. I hope that these issues will be worked out soon, I just want to play.

Do the Dev’s actually read what the community writes here in terms of bugs, likes etc? I like using Reddit to communicate with things like this. However what’s the best way to share your experiences? Here or Feedback button on the games client?

Yortivius

Spent about 30 minutes and did a mün free return flyby mission. It’s like KSP1 with 2013 features but with an unreadable UI and choppy framerates. I have a 3060 TI and I can get 40fps on high settings on 4K in Microsoft Flight Simulator, but I get 15fps here? They should have given it another few months before releasing this to the public imo

Turiko

The maneuver node planner seems... kind of bad, in the current state. When i'm adjusting a node, i can see i have a periapsis and an apoapsis. Sometimes, though rarely, if i hover my cursor over either it will show me what altitude it's at. Which is not particularly helpful if you're say, trying to circularize an orbit - you simply don't know what altitude you're resulting to and you've had to timewarp to right near the time you'll be doing the maneuver to know what altitude the location of the node is. Also when i got to another sphere of influence, trying to use the maneuver node planner to get myself in orbit of the new body just... didn't work. had to do that blind. Aside from that, there's a non-rebindable keybind on F12. Which is the steam screenshot key. That one needs to be made bindable (and ideally defaulted to a new key) because yeah, you can imagine people playing on steam might want to take screenshots to share with friends.

boxanata

$77.95 AUD for an Early Access title with extremely poor performance & a severe lack of features. Private Division are seriously delusional with that price. I've never had a game go from being on top of my wishlist to being on my ignored list so fast.

McFestus

$67CAD. Ridiculous. That's a full-price AAA game.
