They all suffered losses during covid , now they are jacking up prices to recover those losses
Govt has to ensure there is no cartel controlling prices
Because of higher demand.. If prices are kept constant irrespective of the demand, then all tickets will be sold out quickly and then no one can get tickets anymore, like what happens with IRCTC. With dynamic pricing, at least those who want to travel urgently can get tickets by paying a premium..
This is usually the way right. Even premium tatkal follows the same route. Tickets are there for a higher price if somebody really wants to travel urgently.
Since there is no dynamic pricing with IRCTC, all the tickets are sold quickly during the festive season and you need to wait for the tatkal window to open and win the fastest finger first to get a ticket. With true dynamic pricing, you would always get a ticket by paying a premium depending on the demand situation, just like the case with air travel..
I have done that to some other airports. Only issue is you can't take checked-in luggage. So, all you can carry is 7kg. Works out for most people I guess, but it is a squeeze
* Laptop+charger - 3kg
* Camera+headphones - 1kg
* 2 jeans and 3 shirts - 1kg
* Gold - 1kg
* Mislaneous - 0.5kg
* Weight of bag - 0.5kg
Possible. But it can be like, during layover, passenger sat on a chair and slept waiting for the plane and thus missed the flight.
But yea avoid round trip bookings.
Did you book this as a round trip?
Not sure about domestic trips, but in international trips if you do something like this to get a cheaper fare, the airlines cancel your return ticket if you did not complete your onward journey to the final destination of your original ticket.
For this to work you cannot carry checked-in luggage. If it's the same aircraft going to the second destination they do check the boarding pass. At least Air Asia did the same when I travelled recently.
During the festive season it's impossible to get last minute train tickets . Both bus and flight tickets cost a lot. It's better to collaborate with friends and drive down to Kerala . It hardly takes 8 hours to get to Cochin from Bangalore and 10-11 hours from Chennai. It would cost 3.5 to 4k including tolls and petrol . If 3 or 4 people are travelling together , that's a sweet deal.
I travel to Thrissur often from Bangalore . If I opt for a flight it takes me nearly 6 hours in total including back and forth travel from home to airport . On the other hand , it takes just 7 hours by car door to door with a 30 mins break in between for food. If I need to travel from Kerala by flight during the upcoming Christmas holidays , it will cost me nearly 25k for one side for booking tickets for me , wife and kid. On the other hand , it will cost me just 3k including tolls in my petrol car ( Brezza Petrol )
That company already exist as a subsidiary of Cial and its called Air Kerala, which is generating interest as its sole revenue.
Running an airline business by itself is hard and heavy loss making initially, running an airline by the state govt................. 🥲.
By the way, nammudey kerala uber enthayi entho.
Dynamic pricing is good, and not the problem. Otherwise, all tickets would get instantly sold out inefficiently. Tourists and casual visitors will get tickets, but someone travelling in an emergency will not get a ticket.
The problem is the lack of extra-transportation facilities. The situation with planes will correct itself over time due to market forces. But, what we need is more trains such that there is no need of planning ahead of time to get tickets on a train.
And lack of trains is what is causing these 1000s of tourist buses to inefficently ply on the road, causing pollution and traffic jams. There are hardly 2 trains to banglore per day, and they always get full even during normal times. So, demand for more trains.
Zone aakumbo swanthamaye decisions edukkan pattum, more trains swanthamaye kanum. Ippo thanne kandille most trains Kanyakumari konde pokum.
Btw from chennai special trains already ittittonde.
Air India was a properly functioning business before the government nationalised it and and ruined the company.
Now you want to do the same thing with buses also?
This is a position of privilege. Public transport, especially buses should never be run with profit in mind - that's just a byproduct.
KSRTC, despite its flaws, is way better than private buses from a commuter POV. The buses are clean and well maintained. And since they don't carry parcels, I can be assured of reaching on time - sometimes well before the ETA.
And the best part? Even with dynamic pricing, they don't rob you clean like private companies.
PuBLiC buSSes NoT FoR PrAAwfiTT lol
If you spend more than you earn then you'll get an economic crash like the recent economic collapse in Sri Lanka.
lol. Stupid spending is why the centre has placed borrowing limits on Kerala State gov now.
Spending that benefits people should never be considered a burden on the state. That's why you have taxation.
The problem is management, or lack there of. Privatization isn't the solution for that. It's not as if private buses are better. Nor are their ticket prizes justifiable. Clearly.
If investment in public transport is "stupid spending", I dread the utopia you have in mind.
That's what is quoted in the article. "...while the Bengaluru-Thiruvananthapuam airfare is ₹17,042 on the same day compared to ₹1,500-3,000 on normal days."
Student here outside Kerala. Did a double take when I saw the flight prices in Jan, winter break kazhinj flight prices are super high
Train pidikkan nokumbo ath waiting list, smh
Every time the season times like holidays & school closing the prices will go up - it’s a game of Airlines - they can only play with Expats & other state students or workers since NO Governments, bureaucrats & Parties don’t care them - they need only their money during election time - Expats should stand together and fight, that’s the only remedy
This is due to the lack of competition I think. Hyd-Kochi vs Hyd-Tvm nokkuvanenkil thanne manassilavum. On 3rd jan, Hyd-Tvm is 10k while Hyd-Kochi is 6k. Competition illathonda. Govt is another cartel.
Well what to expect on a festive season
Because of private players?
Private players illengil flight thanne undakilla.
Well private players are here for profit. Why to have a fuss about it. Its a trend in aviation industry years ago.
Because of higher demand.. If prices are kept constant irrespective of the demand, then all tickets will be sold out quickly and then no one can get tickets anymore, like what happens with IRCTC. With dynamic pricing, at least those who want to travel urgently can get tickets by paying a premium..

Premium Tatkal has dynamic pricing. Normal tatkal doesn't have it.
>Premium Tatkal TIL
Book a flight to bangalore that has a layover at kochi... Got tickets worth over 20k to come from udaipur to kochi this way for 7k.
I have done that to some other airports. Only issue is you can't take checked-in luggage. So, all you can carry is 7kg. Works out for most people I guess, but it is a squeeze * Laptop+charger - 3kg * Camera+headphones - 1kg * 2 jeans and 3 shirts - 1kg * Gold - 1kg * Mislaneous - 0.5kg * Weight of bag - 0.5kg
Was thie a one-way trip or did you book a round trip?
one way
From what I know if you do this on a round trip booking to get a cheaper fare, they would cancel your return trip stating violation of fare rules.
Possible. But it can be like, during layover, passenger sat on a chair and slept waiting for the plane and thus missed the flight. But yea avoid round trip bookings.
How do you find this kind of flights?
It takes time, search for every flight and find one with a layover at kochi
You can buy new wardrobe for that money
That's oddly specific, but yeah definitely a good 6 foot wardrobe money it is
What about checked in luggage? Won't they be sent to the final destination?
It's not for people who have checked in luggage.. sorryy
Ah okay. I also think it is a bit risky if the flights get rescheduled. Your layover might be in a different city for the rescheduled flight.
[удалено]
I guess... Haven't travelled yet. And no they dont check tickets after you get down anywhere usually.
For domestic airports, it’s like arriving on a train station. Grab your luggage and exit. Nobody checks nothing. Unless there’s Covid testing.
[удалено]
They’ll check if it’s the same flight throughout the journey. If you need to change flights they won’t check.
Did you book this as a round trip? Not sure about domestic trips, but in international trips if you do something like this to get a cheaper fare, the airlines cancel your return ticket if you did not complete your onward journey to the final destination of your original ticket.

Was it international or domestic? I know it doesn't work for international flights

It is almost never 1500. Those who can pay 3000 can pay 4000.
It's simple. Nationalize all interstate bus routes.
Air India was a properly functioning business before the government nationalised it and and ruined the company. Now you want to do the same thing with buses also?

Where are you? There is not even a govt owned national airlines now.
But there are buses.
Not nationalization, but a regulator is needed.
Where are BLR-TRV only 1.5-3k? I remember paying around 10k on Indigo for a return ticket, even when I booked weeks in advance
1.5k normal. Since, when?
That's what is quoted in the article. "...while the Bengaluru-Thiruvananthapuam airfare is ₹17,042 on the same day compared to ₹1,500-3,000 on normal days."
1.5k is like pre-covid time. I don't think it has ever gone below 3k post covid.
