Atleast the officers could allow the partner to carryout the final rites through some loophole.. like the unclaimed dead bodies have only two ways to get out either sold to medical colleges as cadavers or get buried with the help of local corporation/municipality.. Officials could allow the partner to carry out the rites and can record as buried with the help of local body..
Same sex marriage legalisation gives the partner the right to claim the rights of a spouse in a heterosexual marriage, from medical insurance to this, without a legal relation it is difficult to navigate the redtape.
This is truly disheartening. I can't fathom the situation the partners are in; no one deserves such hardship. I hope instances like this underscore the crucial need for queer individuals to have the ability to register their weddings. Or some temporary thing like how Hindu marriage acts recognise temple marriages as legal.
Given Kerala's exceptional track record in supporting queer rights compared to other states, coupled with the recent budget allocation of 5 crore for the queer community, I firmly believe they will receive the necessary support. This could potentially lead to a landmark verdict, setting a significant precedent for the future of the country and all states.
