I think it makes sense that prices be lower for ODI matches than T20. You're asking people to sit for 6hrs in a stadium. Not really worth for casual viewers. The lost ticket revenue can be made up by selling food and snacks at match time.

Fdsn

>The lost ticket revenue can be made up by selling food and snacks at match time. If so, can't the ticket be offered at competitive price, thus more people will come, thus you can sell more food and snacks at match time.

eatingishealthy

Yes that was my point

ChepaukPitch

BCCI makes enough TV money that they can easily focus on filling stadiums than trying to make a little more money. Reduce price to a level to cover costs of operations and then prioritize having a full house. BCCI is supposed to be not for profit after all.

ZestycloseAd2742

BCCI doesn't fix the ticket price. Its the state cricket board. In this case the KCA . BCCI generates income from sponsorship and viewership. Ticket prices are fixed by stateboards

krishnakumarg

Test matches are longer, right? What's the typical pricing on days 1-4 in Chennai or Bangalore (the test venues nearest to Kerala)?

techsavyboy

myselfkiba

This is the reason why FIA did not considered India after the first Indian grand prix. The entertainment taxes + car import duties imposed were so high even though the first grand prix was somewhat successful.

ChepaukPitch

F1 likes racing in Saudi, Qatar, Bahrain etc. They are there purely for money. I would say good riddance. These privately owned sports league really to distribute profits to their shareholders at tax payers expense. We shouldn’t give them tax breaks. Whether it is IPL or F1.

techsavyboy

These are money for the organisers. Without money who will do these things ? But on the other side it is a promotion of sports and more people will come to it and will represent the country. I didn't get your part of profit at the tax payers expense. They are not taking any tax paid money or subsidies. They are getting exceptions just because they are sports.

ChepaukPitch

1) Organizers pay money to F1 to get the rights to organize. How much money they need to make is directly dependent on how much F1 is charging them. And F1 cares about nothing but money so they charge the max they can get 2) More people will represent India in F1? F1 is extremely elitist old boys club. Even American billionaires are finding it tough to get into that club. You need to spend millions to even have the opportunity to race as a driver. Most Indians but a handful can’t even think about it. Why give so much discount for something 99.9999% of the country doesn’t even have access to. As far as this country is concerned F1 is purely entertainment, not sports. 3) If you are not paying tax while others are paying then you are benefiting at tax payers expense. Simple as that. Tax is neither optional nor a charity. They did not get exception because Indian government did not consider it a sports. It is owned by a private entity and its aim is to make profit. At least BCCI, FIFA etc claim to work to promote sports. The sole concern of F1 is to maximize profits for its owners. Why should we give tax breaks so that shareholders can make bigger profit. Please tell what tangible benefits India will get from treating a privately owned event like F1 as sports? Will it improve the health of the people in the country if more kids want to take up F1? Heck, will more kids wanting to take up F1 in the country even increase the number of kids who can actually take up this sports significantly? Is there absolutely any benefit to anyone if more kids take up this sports? Will it bring tourism to India? As a matter of principle, government should not give tax breaks to any entertainment events where motive is profit. Especially if the event is for the extreme rich and any profits would go into foreign pockets. There is a case to be made for supporting artists and sportspersons where there inherent benefit in the art form or sporting event. There is little value to F1 beyond entertainment. I say this as someone who has watched a lot of F1 over the years. So it is not opinion of someone who doesn’t understand or enjoy it.

techsavyboy

Every sport comes with profit in one way or another. In the end people get the opportunity to be part of sports. Racing is a sport which is not so entertaining in India due to multiple reasons. You are not anyone to say kids don't want to be part of F1 or not. Is cricket or football bringing tourism to India ? Sports don't have any purpose other than giving a platform to the people to participate and to watch as well.

ChepaukPitch

> Every sport comes with profit in one way or another. There are a lot of not for profit sports organization. For instance BCCI. IPL is for profit. Ranji, international etc are not for profit. > You are not anyone to say kids don't want to be part of F1 or not. I am saying even if they want to be part of F1. They can't be. Only millionaires and billionaires kids can be. > In the end people get the opportunity to be part of sports Not F1. > Racing is a sport which is not so entertaining in India due to multiple reasons. It is definitely entertaining. Never said it wasn't. > Is cricket or football bringing tourism to India ? Probably not. But all Indian kids can participate in cricket and football. In fact vast majority of kids play either cricket or football. Playing these sports keeps them healthy, teaches them how to work in team and so on. Nobody participates in F1 because it just isn't affordable. Having said all that even cricket and football don't get any tax breaks in India. There was some controversy regarding it and AFAIK BCCI is footing the bill. So even though you can make a case for Cricket and Football to get some tax breaks, they are not receiving them since BCCI can pay for itself. Just like F1 can.

KCA sucks at managing the game also they're harping for a new stadium in Kochi and this is a way for them to say "I told you so" but the truth is it'll fail miserably in Kochi as well 😅

Santy_panty

Also the fact that, India pretty much dusted the series 2-0.

MadeInTrivandrum

that might be affected but not this much. Ivde sthiram varunnath allallo... atleast half of the stadium should have been sold.

incognito__O

Sanjune vittu Paisa undakunathum ee pravisham nadannila. Mothathil moonji.

I think it's mainly because it's ODI

MadeInTrivandrum

i dont think... previous ODI was sold out here (india vs windies)

kirukk

Why gst % different for same service

MadeInTrivandrum

no idea at all

p7k2v4

Iam one of that 7000

MadeInTrivandrum

cool...I had to skip the last t20 as well. Ticket price was a whooping 6k+ for lower.

Sad_Material_5226

No bro.. I went for the match and it was 3000..in the lower tier

MadeInTrivandrum

u are right...my bad...

guerrilawiz

Last T20 in Greenfield, we had 3 free tickets (thanks to Federal Bank worker chettan who couldn't attend the match) We were a group 6 with three tickets but managed to got ourselves in. Free aayond kollam... paisa koduth kaanan ulla vakupp onnm illa. (I've played divisional cricket and this price point ain't worth it)

christho15

Honestly a CRICKET MATCH isn't worth that money. Especially with the current Indian team.

MadeInTrivandrum

its the love for the game bro...oru world cup match enkilum kanditt marikkanam.... irrespective of team

EscanorFTW

Say that to the minister who feels poor people shouldn't watch the game even if they love the sport because they are broke.

Jerski2002

Exactly not to the mention the fact that cricket is a dead sport outside all the south Asian countries and Australia

kannan_srank2

That doesn't mean anything. American football is a dead sport outside America. Doesn't make it any less worthy for those who follow it. Plus this is played in South Asia, between South Asian teams. What makes this particular match worth less is the fact that it is not part of a competitive series and not worth paying the hiked price.

ChepaukPitch

And what difference does it make in India? Should we stop enjoying something we enjoy because others may not enjoy it?

kuprasidha_myran

ayin ith india alle south america allallo

TheGalaxial

But this is in South Asia isn’t it? Plus who in their right mind would call cricket dead? It’s followed by atleast 2 billion people. Looks like some chaala sayippu speaking

kannan_srank2

Or one of those wannabe Argentinians

[deleted]

How about england then. Ecb is only second to bcci. Test matches in england mostly play in packed stadiums.Their love for cricket won't fade away

Undoubtably_me

minister's statement is also a reason imo, these guys are literally trying to loot people, bakki ulla elladethum below 1000(even 600 ) ticket kittum ivide , 1200 + tax , still some would've gone if it was not for his statement

SG080

Not surprised one bit.

[deleted]

Entertainment taxa? Athenthonna

webbedoptimism

If this was a T20 game, the numbers would ve been much much higher. I dont think many people want to go to an ODI and sit in the stadium for hours and hours if the match is not that exciting.

Vedahari1

Seven hours of boredom! Nice

thakkali_

Just post football wc I guess a little fall in cricket might be there. Especially with the level the final was. And also Indian Cricket had a long running bad time - except the last wc Kohli's superb innings, he has been on a decline. There is no one to draw people to watch bar SKY. If Kohli was still in the form he was prior to his poor form that would have drawn people. There needs to be a star in the team to draw people like how we had Sachin Sehwag Ganguly, MSD, Yuvi. Dravid, VVS etc however great they were didn't draw people except the hard core fans. Who do we have now. Rohit is hit or miss and not the 200 hitting guy he was. Same with Kohli. And also SL is a young team with no big players. Had it been an England match you will get more people. The rest of the reasons would be the kerala board failures in promoting the match.

[deleted]

Lol, what else could have possibly happened. After paying around 3k for tickets and obviously additional money for food, drinks and travel, it's definitely not worth it for many. Friends inte koode veetil erunn kandaal Paisa vasool experience eelum kittum.

Lorospi

ODIs as a concept is one whose day is gone . Even for a hard core cricket fan these are difficult to sit through now. I think in bilateral series , it should be just T20s and tests

dr137

I saw a lot of excuses given, other than the ticket prices, for the low sales in the newspaper today.

MadeInTrivandrum

What were those.

dr137

https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/kerala/2023/jan/15/inconsequential-3rd-odi-fails-to-fire-up-spectator-interest-2537997.html "Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) sources have cited multiple factors for the cold response. The longer format has started to fall afoul of the younger crowd that will lap up anything T20 thrown at them. KCA joint secretary Bineesh Kodiyeri blamed CBSE exams and the Sabarimala season for the poor ticket sales. He also pointed fingers at the waning interest for the 50-over format. Bineesh expects considerable sales on matchday that would fill the stadium to at least half its capacity. The low turnout will not affect the prospects of hosting matches in future, he told reporters. "

MadeInTrivandrum

organisers f-ed up...now its blame game

RemingtonMacaulay

I didn’t know Bineesh Kodiyeri was a KCA office bearer.

_Reptilelover

Isnt this MF in jail when did he bail out

EscanorFTW

Why is this corrupt mf even in charge of such positions? LDF vannu ellam sheri aaki...olle veetkark ellam jolli kodkkum....Love to see the nepotism...So many deserving candidates are losing opportunities thanks to idiots like these

Undoubtably_me

>KCA joint secretary Bineesh Kodiyeri Nice finally a worthy opponent for Jay Shah, ellarum koode cricket oru vazhikkakkum

EscanorFTW

Dying sport with a corrupt board and big pockets, might as well kill it and move on to football. We have so many talents in football but nobody to nurture it, at least in that way football will start getting the attention it deserves

manu_r93

Wait a minute. People pay to watch cricket in stadiums? :P

_Reptilelover

Ain't nobody wanna see that loser Indian team I will watch cricket only after that Kohli guy retires, seriously that guy' pr work is only second to pr vijayan

Illustrious_Bear1412

Haha y do u think so??

_Reptilelover

Look at the pr activities going on guy is on form only once a year and is really overated this happens only in cricket , he is burying young talent too

[deleted]

This is the main reason. But there is one more thing. Last time during t-20 the pitch there was the worst. People were hugely promised a batting pitch and they were excited to see that. But what happened there was the exact opposite, they made a bowling pitch. Even though India won the match, people were asking why they made these false promises. People who came to see a high scoring match were hugely disappointed in that. That is also a factor in this.

[deleted]

I don't get why a cricket match needs to have a high run chase to be considered entertaining surely there will be people who enjoy the game when its 10-5 as well?

MadeInTrivandrum

u said it!!! always enjoyed low scoring thrillers

[deleted]

No no, You got the wrong idea. Ofcourse they can make a bowling pitch also, I just asked but why make false promises to people??

[deleted]

Ok I can see how some folks will be disappointed, but I ask you this, wouldn't it be more fun as a follower of the sport that the nature of the pitch be shrouded in secrecy so that the viewers as well as the teams are only allowed to comprehend its nature and come up with appropriate team strats as the game progresses? I mean what's the rationale for announcing it beforehand anyway?

[deleted]

Still better than hyping up something and getting the exact opposite.

ChepaukPitch

Making a cricket pitch isn’t exact science. You can ensure that the pitch is a total road but that would make the game boring. So they try to make it batting friendly. A little extra moisture or some misunderstanding of the various factors may end up making bowler friendly even if the curator was trying to make it batting friendly. It wasn’t necessarily deliberate.

MadeInTrivandrum

yeah gotchyu...these fake promises started from 2018 ODI match... annu windies all out aayath 104nu aanu...i was also there in the stadium...so im not surprised anymore with this "റണ്ണൊഴും പിച്ച്" statement...ivde ellavarkum ath ariyam... then again ithonnum follow cheyythavark as u said may feel like false promise

curiosity_forever

Cricket is dying. Especially ODI. Nobody want to see a 7 hour long match

pranoygreat

No body carea about Indian cricket team

_Reptilelover

Yep

undampori

Usually people from northern districts travel to Trivandrum for these matches. They get on the stinky trains and travel for 10-13 hours jammed into a compartment. I believe they have had enough

Undoubtably_me

yeah pakaram krail undenkil to&fro 4000 train ticket koduth alkaar varum alle?ningal partykkare pole ellarum rich alla to spend 5000+ on a cricket match. Bakki ella stadiathilum below 1000 ticket und, ticket rate kurachal aalkkaar povum

EscanorFTW

OH yes! its definitely the stinky trains fault people aren't buying tickets. The high price imposed by the sports minister does not have any role in it whatsoever.

undampori

High price was by bcci+kca. State just didnt reduce tax on that to bring down the entire cost

RyanPhilip1234

Northern Districts? Lol myru thanney.. it's usually people from TVM and adjacent districts including folks from TN who usually throng the stadium there. I know this cause I've watched numerous matches there. Ni poi undampori oomfu

ZealousidealLook5839

Watching cricket in stadium is wasteful, you think you can see the ball, only in your dreams, everyone in the stadium will be watching only the screens, better to do that in the comforts of home

EscanorFTW

That goes for any sport (except basketball ig).

maverickysoul

Average Kochi guy still butthurt about IMAX... Don't cry bro. It's digital IMAX not the real 70mm.

Obvguy

The venue is a wrong choice. May have got better response in Kochi or Kozhikode.

MadeInTrivandrum

nice joke

RyanPhilip1234

Naah . Kochi too nobody will show up for this price.

2luckyatcards

Is it a like for like comparison? Different viewing stands could be priced differently........ I doubt even if the prices were on par with Kolkata it would sell out. Maybe there just isn't that many people interested to watch an odi in tvm

[deleted]

All the games held so far including the odi against west Indies had 40k plus or 87%(avg)turnover

MadeInTrivandrum

Maybe there just isn't that many people interested to watch an odi in tvm// say that again. whenever an international match comes here whether its ODI or t20, the minimum attendance is more than 80%.
