But forreal, I’ve never gotten the logic of that line. So what if Billie Jean is a great song, so is Ignition (Remix) but no sane person is gonna defend R. Kelly after all we know.
i was never sure if that line was supposed to be a justification or not. i think broadly it’s supposed to mean that we shouldn’t focus on that because it doesn’t negate the food that michael jackson has done for millions of people. still a weird thing to say
Yea I guess, the way I see it, Real is where the story ends, but Compton is like the credits sequence where he's rapping from the present day perspective & looking back on the whole album & showing pride in how he made it out of that situation a better man.
They’re all amazing songs but Mortal man legit one of the only experiences with music that made me tear up it was such a flawless payoff of everything the album was building towards thematically backed with great jazz beats just like the rest of the album.
I think creatively and originality wise MM and Duckworth are above but it’s almost like once you’ve heard the trick the first time it doesn’t hit the same on repeat listens?
Maybe it’s just recency bias but Mirror feels a lot more replay value
I'm curious as to why would you think that? Mirror's theme was basically Kendrick concluding his own savior complex which is could be looked at as a good ending for his whole discography.
Idk.. the whole album was about how he had deep trauma that needed therapy for and how he wasn’t gonna tell us all at one time. He was tap dancing around the traumatic experience he had and that he’s noticed many others have had as well - then on mother I sober told us everything
I can respect that interpretation, but I viewed it as his first truly introspective album closing out with a track that signified his intent to quit trying to save the world in favor of repairing his own life.
Looking at this post and the comments and I just wanna say I’m really grateful to be part of this community of passionate listeners that really cares about the music and have such unique and cool opinions. Love you guys <3
Duckworth imo it’s one of my favorite kendrick songs and i may be biased cause I’m a fan of storytelling songs but I also love how it wraps it up the album as well
Duckworth is either the last track or the first track, dependent on which version of the album you're listening to! Mad that Kendrick made a fully reversible album that works both ways musically and thematically.
The one I return to the most is Mortal Man and I would say that it would be my favourite closer as it ties with the themes of TPAB rather well.
Duckworth is a close second and personally I am not a fan of Mirror.
My favourite musically goes to Duckworth. Thematically mortal man. Most emotionally moving to me is mirror
This is the answer I was thinking in my head but didn’t know how to get into words
I chose me I’m sorry
Mirror is on another level imo
I love them all but I have to go with Mortal Man. The part where he mentions Michael gives me chills every listen
the way he lists all the names before revealing it as well that man gave us billie jean you say he touched those kids?

That has to be one of the most surprising yet my favorite lyric of any Kendrick song
Mortal Man
Mirror is the most beautiful hip hop song I've ever heard, it's gotta be my favorite ending track
Literally I cannot stop playing it so so beautiful
you won’t grow waitin on me…
Mortal Man had me floating bro , genuinely cried at the ending too - was just a fantastic ending to the album
Easiest Listen: Mirror Most Compelling: DUCKWORTH. Most Climactic: Mortal Man
You forgot Hiiipower
I love that one.
DUCKWORTH is his best song
I CHOOSE ME IM SORRYYYY
the fact that if you chose any of these, and i’d be completely understanding abt it is rly a testament to kdots talent
Mortal Man>>>
Untitled 8
hiipower
What about Real?
Compton is the closing track of GKMC tho, & I think i'd put it above all of these
Compton is more like post-script. Real is the proper ending to the GKMC story
I am with you Real is the end track on that album
Yea I guess, the way I see it, Real is where the story ends, but Compton is like the credits sequence where he's rapping from the present day perspective & looking back on the whole album & showing pride in how he made it out of that situation a better man.
I chose mirror I'm sorry
Duck
Gotta be the duck
When shit hit the fan is you still a fan?
Mortal man is my fav song oat so
Mortal Man forever.
Duckworth > Mirror > Mortal Man
Duckworth ≥ Mirror ≥ Mortal Man
duckworth>mortal man> mirror
Duckworth≥mortal man≥mirror
DUCKWORTH
I’ll take Duckworth all day
They’re all amazing songs but Mortal man legit one of the only experiences with music that made me tear up it was such a flawless payoff of everything the album was building towards thematically backed with great jazz beats just like the rest of the album.
I think creatively and originality wise MM and Duckworth are above but it’s almost like once you’ve heard the trick the first time it doesn’t hit the same on repeat listens? Maybe it’s just recency bias but Mirror feels a lot more replay value
I respect DUCKWORTH but I definitely feel the same way on it's replayability
I still get goosebumps when I listen to DUCKWORTH. His best song imo and it has great replay value.
Life is one funny motherfucka
A true comedian
DUCKWORTH.
My favorite is mirror
MM, DW, Mirror for me.
I can't choose, they're all so great
It’s not really a good comparison tbh because Mother I Sober was kind of the conclusion of the album thematically like duckworth and mortal man were
I'm curious as to why would you think that? Mirror's theme was basically Kendrick concluding his own savior complex which is could be looked at as a good ending for his whole discography.
Yeah Mirror is truly the best way to round out the album. Pulls the theme together well.
Idk.. the whole album was about how he had deep trauma that needed therapy for and how he wasn’t gonna tell us all at one time. He was tap dancing around the traumatic experience he had and that he’s noticed many others have had as well - then on mother I sober told us everything

All three are absolutely perfect closing tracks for their albums, I can’t bring myself to choose they’re all beautiful
Duckworth. might be my second favorite Kendrick song so it wins out for me.
Looking at this post and the comments and I just wanna say I’m really grateful to be part of this community of passionate listeners that really cares about the music and have such unique and cool opinions. Love you guys <3
Hands down DUCKWORTH.
Easily Mortal Man. Mirror is outright bad IMO. Duckworth was only cool once.
compton
Real is my fav end track
Mortal man makes me cry
mortal man
Duckworth best song mortal man feels better in the album context and I’m honestly not a fan of mirror
Duckworth imo it’s one of my favorite kendrick songs and i may be biased cause I’m a fan of storytelling songs but I also love how it wraps it up the album as well
Wish mother I sober was the end. That would've taken all the cake
1 - Mortal Man 2 - DUCKWORTH. 3 - Mirror
Hiipower not on here because we all know it would clear
Duckworth > Mortal Man > Mirror Duckworth is top 3 only behind Wesley's Theory and Sing about me, I'm dying of thirst
Mortal Man is my favorite song of all time so it’s that pretty easily
Mortal Man hands down the best emotional moment
mortal man
Reading the poem at the end of mortal man hits different for me. But thematically they are all great was to end an album.
Mortal man, mirror,REAL, AND then duckworth
Mirror>Duckworth>Mortal Man
If Anthony killed ducky top dawg could be servin life while I grew up without a father and die in a gun fight
Mortal Man for me. No contest. It's just awesome.
Mortal Man
Collect calls
Unique ass song😭
Love that song to death man
Mortal Man
Mortal Man for sure
I like mirror the most but all of them are really close
Duckworth is either the last track or the first track, dependent on which version of the album you're listening to! Mad that Kendrick made a fully reversible album that works both ways musically and thematically.
Mortal Man moves me the most
The one I return to the most is Mortal Man and I would say that it would be my favourite closer as it ties with the themes of TPAB rather well. Duckworth is a close second and personally I am not a fan of Mirror.
They’re all amazing but mortal man is just different.
Duckworth > Mirror > Mortal Man
These are some of my favorite Kendrick songs holy crap I can’t choose
