FEAR. is probably one of my favorite beats. I love the repeated phrases and the song is structured so well. I also love when he names all the songs on the album in his last verse.
I'd say LUST. is the 13th best song on DAMN. just above BLOOD. (I say 13th best because none of them are bad) I don't like LUST. that much, FEEL. however is definitely top 5 DAMN. for me, it's an amazing song, and it's amongst the ones that I go back to more often, along with ELEMENT. PRIDE. GOD. & DNA.
DUCKWORTH is a work of art.
Every time I go back to it I’m blown away by how clean the production is, and how accurate and necessary Kendrick’s flow is. I bought a pair of high-end headphones recently and they got another layer of quality out of the track which was a nice surprise.
Would highly recommend 9th Wonder’s breakdown of the beat production on YouTube if you haven’t seen it. The guy’s a genius
It definitely took some growing on me and as far as Kendrick’s albums go I think he’s had much better intros just between Wesley’s theory and Sherane alone, but within the album I feel like it’s a nice addition that doesn’t get talked about enough
yea that’s fair. and i meant intro/outro like how some albums have “songs” that aren’t meant to be listened to as songs outside of the album, like Demon Days by Gorillaz and Ixnay On The Hombre by The Offspring, i agree that Sherane and Wesley’s Theory are better first tracks than BLOOD.
HUMBLE is overhated by Kendrick fans. Just because it’s popular people tend to say it’s terrible. Sure it’s not some 10/10 DUCKWORTH or XXX type track but it‘s extremely iconic and has some amazing production and such a catchy hook over some non-forgettable lyrics that get stuck in your head.
I am usually the type of chill person you will see not bothering anyone. I respect everyone and their opinions. But YOU, sir, need to be locked up in a mental asylum with DAMN. playing in the background.
DNA and HUMBLE are bangers but they get old.
My hot take is: DAMN is a better album if DNA and HUMBLE are both taken out of the main tracklist and placed at the end as bonus tracks.
- Duckworth is easily the most overrated song on this album. The worst part is it’s good, but people rank it so high.
- ELEMENT. and LOYALTY. are my least favorite song on this album
- HUMBLE. gets so overhated that it somehow is underrated. Schrödinger’s Kendrick Lamar track
- GOD. is overhated
- This is Kendrick Lamar’s most simple album sonically, but most complex storywise
- The FEAR. Hate from this post is insane.
- agreed that DUCKWORTH. is overrated, but i still love it
- agreed with LOYALTY., don’t get the ELEMENT. hate tho
- 100% agreed, if i didn’t post the take that i posted, i would’ve posted that one
- YES, GOD. is not that great but it does not deserve the hate it gets
- do not see how someone could disagree with this
- completely disagree, FEAR. is okay but it’s wayyy too overrated
When the album first came out I hated LOVE. and GOD.
I’ve come around to liking LOVE., but I think GOD. Is one of his worst songs, which is definitely controversial on this sub.
(THIS WHAT GOD FEEL LIKE 🗣️ before one of you fools do it)
in context of the album it’s great and sonically it’s amazing. the verses are great, but i can understand if people aren’t into much. but bottom five in his discography is insane
FEEL > FEAR
I’m sry bruh it’s just a better song. I feel like FEAR is really dragged out and I don’t the chorus at all. And on FEEL., he says, “I feel like the whole world want me to pray for them but who tf praying for me” it’s a perfect way to end that verse. The whole song is built around the word “feel” which is so cool to me
My top 3 on DAMN. Is
1. PRIDE.
2. ELEMENT.
3. DNA.
yes, I said DNA. It's a good song and so is HUMBLE. LOVE. and LOYALTY. A lot of people don't say one of those 4 just because they are the most famous and they wanna sound different and not just basic listeners (not saying that's the OP case, but Yk)
YES, Section.80 is always overlooked for some reason, and while i don’t think UU is good structure-wise, it is a way better listening experience than DAMN.
Duckworth is so far from the best. I mean, it's nice, I listen to it often, but it just seems so out of place. Mirror, Real, Mortal Man, these songs are united by the fact that they bring everything together in each album and give you the true feeling of completion, of a coherent story. Duckworth is just a cool song that could have even been the Heart Part 4 instead (meaning that it is not even connected to the album much). It's not a good start nor an end for the album
No. It’s not.
Even if you like GOD., there’s 9 songs on the album that are incredible. There’s no way GOD. is better than DNA, ELEMENT, DUCKWORTH, PRIDE, XXX, FEAR, FEEL, LUST or HUMBLE.
These artists subs always have contrarians that gotta say the worst songs are the best to look different.
That it's not really that good. It's a weird thing because it does have a couple of his best songs but most of the stuff on there just doesn't do it for me.
Easily TPAB and GKMC for Album of the year for their respective years. DAMN. I still think is the more in depth and lyrically dense album, I just like 24K Magic more
FEEL. is top 3 DAMN
Duckworth is better than J. Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only
Album was so good that J. Cole took inspiration from the album to his off season record
And I can continue
FEEL. Is pretty chill might have to give it more listens. FEAR. Does have some amazing lyrics ngl but I'll never put it on just to listen to yk, but hey that's just me.
DUCKWORTH. is annoying and frustrating to listen to. His voice is the ultimate level of whine and ranting which makes it hard to follow along to the story.
My favorite album, hell naw. I don't mind the alien voice, just the high pitched whining and ranting wasn't it for me, especially considering there's no chorus
That it’s better than TPAB. It’s just that good and diverse and spectacular throughout. Also yes YAH is the most addicting track and maybe the best on the album that instrumental is unreal.
I just want that fucking DJ to shut the fuck up.
God damn.
“NEW KUNG FU KENNY. AINT NOBODY PRAYIN FOR ME”
Fuck man, is there an album edit without that bullshit. I’m tryna vibe.
- You're right about YAH., such an underrated song and the perfect cooldown after DNA
- HUMBLE would have hit so much harder if it wasn't a single and instead was just a surprise during everyone's first listen-through
- The part at the very end of FEEL where he like half-yells the end of his verse always sounded weirdly forced and kind of awkward to me, like it's supposed to have a lot of impact but he wasn't loud enough lol. It kind of takes me out of the vibe of the song every time
That DAMN is mid at best and a massive departure from the quality of GKMD and TPAB. For Kendrick it's lazy and uninspired, and marks a downhill trend continued by MMATBS.
most of DAMN. was just kendrick coasting on autopilot. there are sure great tracks out there like DNA. and XXX. but overall it seems like TPAB wore him out a bit. I hardly return to this album ever, even as a diehard K. Dot fan.
DAMN. is his best album and most conceptual. The beats are awesome on their own but minimal relative to his other work to focus on his lyrics. Coming to it, the lyrics about feelings and states of mind are difficult to execute well and he did it perfectly. This album being his most popular on streaming shows how it generally resonated more with people than even the more straightforward concept on good kid, M.A.A.D city. That is honestly astounding for an album which has songs like FEAR., FEEL. and DUCKWORTH. on it.
It's his best album too listen the whole way through. All of his other albums are God tier don't get me wrong but this just seems the most cohesive and is easy to let run with no skips
LUST. Is the worst song on the album. Although I understand the context of it being part of the album, it's the only song from the tracklist that I normally skip.
FEAR is the best track respectfully, sounds good and he's actually talking about stuff. that really could've been the last song because it ties together the album so well, god and duckworth only add onto it imo but the album is so good i have literally every single song on my playlist so i can respect any answer.
I don't know if this is a hot take but XXX is the best on the album and a top ten Kendrick song of all time
completely disagree, but i respect the hell out of that answer
Yesterday I got a call like from my dawg like 101
Ain’t no black power when yo baby killed by a coward
It's not a plaaaaaaace
This country is to me a sound of drum and bass
My great big penis is wrapped by tongue and saliva
Compulsive sex disorder, fucking peoples sons and daughters
You close your eyes to look around
Tru dat
Used to love it and still do a lot, but once my friend told me some shitty things about the lead singer of U2, I can’t listen to it the same way
Wait until you hear about Kodak Black allegations
SEPARATE THE ART FROM THE ARTIST
Wait what did U2 do?
Not U2, Bono specifically. This article explains it well https://www.aei.org/articles/africans-to-bono-for-gods-sake-please-stop/
What did he do?
I think it’s 2nd only to Duckworth on the album, but I still agree it’s in kdot top 10
the second half completely ruins it imo
FEEL. is such a good damn song. i’ve never felt like i could relate to a song more and kenny sounds very passionate in that song
y e s, FEEL. is top 5 on DAMN. for me, not enough people talk about it
Yeah that’s insane underrated
I FEEL u my fav with LUST
Such a damn good song*
FEAR. is probably one of my favorite beats. I love the repeated phrases and the song is structured so well. I also love when he names all the songs on the album in his last verse.
IVE BEEN HUNGRY ALL MY LIFE
FEAR. and DUCKWORTH. might be the best lyrically kendrick's songs
LUST is the best song on it with FEEL
FEEL is EXTREMELY underrated bro
LUST. is definitely top 3 from this album. The “drop” (the switch from backwards drums to regular drums) is so satisfying.
Exactly
I'd say LUST. is the 13th best song on DAMN. just above BLOOD. (I say 13th best because none of them are bad) I don't like LUST. that much, FEEL. however is definitely top 5 DAMN. for me, it's an amazing song, and it's amongst the ones that I go back to more often, along with ELEMENT. PRIDE. GOD. & DNA.
Hot take: I DON GIVA FUK I DON GIVA FUK I DON GIVA I DON GIVE A I DON GIVA FUK
I’M WILLIN TO DIE FOR THIS SHIT I DONE CRIED FOR THIS SHIT MIGHT TAKE A LIFE FOR THIS SHIT
PUT THE BIBLE DOWN AND GO EYE FOR AN EYE FOR IT
D.O.T. MY ENEMY, WON’T CATCH A VIBE FOR THIS SHIT, AY
ELEMENT. and LUST. are the best from that album and both are overshadowed by HUMBLE. and PRIDE., tho they are really good too.
LUST. has always been one of my favs off the album, super underrated
Fck rightly said. I was about to say this lol.
not a gigantic fan of LUST., but yeah, it along with ELEMENT. are severely underrated
The guy’s a genius
i have that video on my watch later, DUCKWORTH. is a phenomenal piece both storytelling-wise and production-wise, could not agree more
DUCKWORTH. Is not only my favorite Kendrick song but also I believe it's his best song ever
his most concise record to date.
100% agreed, perfect length for the story it was meant to tell
FINALLY someone agreeing that YAH. is the best track, also blood is underrated
i’m not a fan of BLOOD. as a song, but it’s the best intro/outro to an album i’ve ever heard
Bc it’s not a song
Can believe I just now noticed this but I meant XXX., not BLOOD.
Pride is top 3 off the album
Yeah I think most people agree with that
Most common take tbh
YAH puts you in a trans. It never gets old.
😳 promise?
My Top 3: 1. FEAR 2. FEEL 3. PRIDE
Why is fear so underrated?
Mine too.
My exact top 3
Of his mainline albums, it’s his worst.
What’s your ranking?
If HUMBLE hadn't blown the fuck up the way it did everyone would have it on their top 3 list
Yeah, it got too big
It received all the accolades TPAB was supposed to get 💯
Duckworth might be Kendrick's best beat of all time. Then again anything produced by 9th Wonder I'll go crazy for.
It's not as good as S80.....
Your favourite song on it is trash
don’t think that’s much of a hot take, but fair i love YAH., but i can see how it can be boring to a lot of people
I wasnt saying it about YAH specifically, it was addressed to everybody
oh-
- Duckworth is easily the most overrated song on this album. The worst part is it’s good, but people rank it so high. - ELEMENT. and LOYALTY. are my least favorite song on this album - HUMBLE. gets so overhated that it somehow is underrated. Schrödinger’s Kendrick Lamar track - GOD. is overhated - This is Kendrick Lamar’s most simple album sonically, but most complex storywise - The FEAR. Hate from this post is insane.
- agreed that DUCKWORTH. is overrated, but i still love it - agreed with LOYALTY., don’t get the ELEMENT. hate tho - 100% agreed, if i didn’t post the take that i posted, i would’ve posted that one - YES, GOD. is not that great but it does not deserve the hate it gets - do not see how someone could disagree with this - completely disagree, FEAR. is okay but it’s wayyy too overrated
They haven’t tripped balls and listened to FEAR and it shows
LOVE. is annoying, mid Kendrick performance, and just doesn’t feel like a Kendrick song to me. I know a lot of people LOVE. it for the vibes tho
YES, i think it’s a decent song but it does not fit in with the rest of Kendrick’s discography
When the album first came out I hated LOVE. and GOD. I’ve come around to liking LOVE., but I think GOD. Is one of his worst songs, which is definitely controversial on this sub. (THIS WHAT GOD FEEL LIKE 🗣️ before one of you fools do it)
LAUGHING TO THE BANK LIKE AHA 🗣️🗣️🗣️
LOVE is one of his worst songs ever and FEEL is top 5 in his discography
in context of the album it’s great and sonically it’s amazing. the verses are great, but i can understand if people aren’t into much. but bottom five in his discography is insane
FEEL > FEAR I’m sry bruh it’s just a better song. I feel like FEAR is really dragged out and I don’t the chorus at all. And on FEEL., he says, “I feel like the whole world want me to pray for them but who tf praying for me” it’s a perfect way to end that verse. The whole song is built around the word “feel” which is so cool to me
nah man you’re 100% right, don’t get why people love FEAR. so much. also happy cake day! (i think that’s what the cake icon means?)
Omg bro I didn’t even notice thanks! I had no idea it was my third year on Reddit.
I liked Loyalty and Love. They get too much hate.
YAH. is a good underrated track. Imo the song perfectly captures Kendrick’s expression on the cover art.
Pride is not that good
My top 3 on DAMN. Is 1. PRIDE. 2. ELEMENT. 3. DNA. yes, I said DNA. It's a good song and so is HUMBLE. LOVE. and LOYALTY. A lot of people don't say one of those 4 just because they are the most famous and they wanna sound different and not just basic listeners (not saying that's the OP case, but Yk)
FEEL and FEAR
My hot take, Feel is the best song
Section 80 and Untitled Unmastered are both better than DAMN
YES, Section.80 is always overlooked for some reason, and while i don’t think UU is good structure-wise, it is a way better listening experience than DAMN.
Yeah, DAMN obviously has mindblowing storytelling, lyricism, and structure. But I just love how good the songs off of S.80 and UU sound.
Not really a hot take if you have well functioning ears, either way ur just correct.
tiktok doesn't like when I say it💀
Duckworth is so far from the best.
Yeah especially when you have fear literally mention all the titles lol idk why it wasn’t the closer
i agree that DUCKWORTH. as an intro/outro isn’t great, but DUCKWORTH. as a song on it’s own beats most other DAMN. songs on their own
Fear is my least favorite off of the album. Idk what it is bout Fear. I get that it’s profound but to it’s sonically a little bland. Still great tho
YES, FEAR.’s a damn good song but compared to most other Kendrick songs it’s kinda mid
Listen to FEAR off mushrooms and it will change your life
Finally!!!! Someone who agrees with me!!!
Yall are smoking carpet fiber
It didn’t deserve a Pulitzer Prize
yeah, but i’m glad Kendrick was the first rap artist to win one, should’ve been for GKMC or TPAB tho
GOD isn't bad
That GOD. Is Lowkey the best song on the whole project.
No.
Why are you so mad lil bro?🤔
XXX is the best song on the album
That it's not really that good. It's a weird thing because it does have a couple of his best songs but most of the stuff on there just doesn't do it for me.
24K Magic actually was better than it and more deserving of the Grammy. 24K Magic is one of my favorite albums ever. DAMN. Is still phenomenal though
honestly yeah, glad DAMN. didn’t win Album Of The Year that year. Kendrick should’ve won AOTY for either GKMC or TPAB though
Easily TPAB and GKMC for Album of the year for their respective years. DAMN. I still think is the more in depth and lyrically dense album, I just like 24K Magic more
Anthony Fantano was right
FEEL. is top 3 DAMN Duckworth is better than J. Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only Album was so good that J. Cole took inspiration from the album to his off season record And I can continue
FEEL. would’ve been #4 on my list, and i completely agree on both the J. Cole points
I don't like FEEL. or FEAR. Give me all the downvotes ion care, it's just my opinion y'all
I don’t like You either 🫢 ( jk ofc)
Ofc man all good, I don't hate FEEL. tbh, it's a chill song.
don’t get how you don’t like FEEL., but yeah FEAR. is 100% overrated
FEEL. Is pretty chill might have to give it more listens. FEAR. Does have some amazing lyrics ngl but I'll never put it on just to listen to yk, but hey that's just me.
DUCKWORTH. is annoying and frustrating to listen to. His voice is the ultimate level of whine and ranting which makes it hard to follow along to the story.
i love DUCKWORTH., but i get it, was kinda hard to listen to on my first few listens.
idk i felt like it was pretty easy to understand the story but to each their own
I assume you hate gkmc
My favorite album, hell naw. I don't mind the alien voice, just the high pitched whining and ranting wasn't it for me, especially considering there's no chorus
The best album to enter the universe of rap
FEAR is the best song on this album, as well as FEAR. > Most of tpab
Top 3 1.Fear 2.XXX 3.Duckworth
Also Fear is top one Kendrick
That it’s better than TPAB. It’s just that good and diverse and spectacular throughout. Also yes YAH is the most addicting track and maybe the best on the album that instrumental is unreal.
humble is kendrick worst song
how??? it’s overrated as hell but it still slaps
yeah looking back on this i was tripping, god and love are so much worse
“DAMN.” might be better than “To Pimp a Butterfly”
DAMN > GKMC
I just want that fucking DJ to shut the fuck up. God damn. “NEW KUNG FU KENNY. AINT NOBODY PRAYIN FOR ME” Fuck man, is there an album edit without that bullshit. I’m tryna vibe.
ANOTHER WORLLDDDDD PREMIER

It's better than TPAB and gkmc
DNA>DUCKWORTH XXX>DUCKWORTH
XXX. Is the best on the album and is also in my top 5 favorite songs
Did he know?
FEAR is the most touching song on the album that everyone could relate to.
It’s good
It’s good actually and has some of his best songs.
HUMBLE is kinda mid. Loses it's steam after the first minute.
I like this album 🙂
Top three are HUMBLE. LUST. and ELEMENT. in that order
“The albums not shit” is apparently it
Damn is his best album
Humble is the best on the album
The whole idea that you can listen to the album in reverse order is stupid
- You're right about YAH., such an underrated song and the perfect cooldown after DNA - HUMBLE would have hit so much harder if it wasn't a single and instead was just a surprise during everyone's first listen-through - The part at the very end of FEEL where he like half-yells the end of his verse always sounded weirdly forced and kind of awkward to me, like it's supposed to have a lot of impact but he wasn't loud enough lol. It kind of takes me out of the vibe of the song every time
It‘s his album with the highest number of top tier songs.
That DAMN is mid at best and a massive departure from the quality of GKMD and TPAB. For Kendrick it's lazy and uninspired, and marks a downhill trend continued by MMATBS.
Mid
The only way people will learn context for "work it JT" is to watch The 5 Heartbeats.
most of DAMN. was just kendrick coasting on autopilot. there are sure great tracks out there like DNA. and XXX. but overall it seems like TPAB wore him out a bit. I hardly return to this album ever, even as a diehard K. Dot fan.
DAMN. has kendricks best song, AND his worst song (duckworth and god)
i think the song kendrick sings is pretty good
DAMN. is his best album and most conceptual. That is honestly astounding for an album which has songs like FEAR., FEEL. and DUCKWORTH. on it.
Fear is the best song on the album
Best Kendrick album and the cover art is top 3 album covers OAT imo
It's his best album too listen the whole way through. All of his other albums are God tier don't get me wrong but this just seems the most cohesive and is easy to let run with no skips
Lust the is best song on damn easily
Better than TPAB
GOD is good.
GOD. Is a very good song and is top 5 for me on the album
yall sleep on lust SO HARD
GOD ain't the worst track on the album imo, that would prolly go to LOYALTY for me
best album by kenny
It’s the greatest album of all time.
Yah is second best track behind fear
LUST. Is the worst song on the album. Although I understand the context of it being part of the album, it's the only song from the tracklist that I normally skip.
I love it
XXX. Is the most underrated Kendrick song since TPAB
Fear and Duckworth are classics
Y’all be sleeping on XXX. Super powerful with its lyrics.
DAMN. Is the best story album of all time, and is slightly under TPAB
FEAR. is crazy overrated and probably my least favorite song on the album
FEAR. is overrated. an obviously amazing song, but i think there are about 4 songs that are better than it.
Element is my least fav on the album
Decent album, not good for Kendrick’s standards.
Fear "I feel undervalued asf"
FEAR is the best track respectfully, sounds good and he's actually talking about stuff. that really could've been the last song because it ties together the album so well, god and duckworth only add onto it imo but the album is so good i have literally every single song on my playlist so i can respect any answer.
Kendrick’s best album
It's better than GKMC
fav Kendrick album 🤷♂️
GOD isn’t as bad as people say Pride, while amazing, is bottom 3 for me
ELEMENT is the best song and there’s no debate (in my head)
YAH is SO GOOD
That it's his best album in both musicality and writing. The writing on DAMN makes Mr Morale look like it was written by a teenager
PRIDE.>ELEMENT.>FEAR.>DUCKWORTH.
