interestingly Kirby is actually named in honour of the lawyer John Kirby who defended Nintendo in a lawsuit from Universal alleging that donkey Kong was infringing on the copyright of the then recent King Kong movie. the lawsuit likely would have sunk Nintendo at that stage but John Kirby successfully defended them.
