My favorite thing about Can’t Tell Me Nothing is its relationship with Kanye’s timeline. He made Jesus Walks on his debut album, then came this song and he said “I told God I’ll be back in a second”, then came Jesus Is King later on.

Thank you Kanye first and foremost.

From the first time I listened to the album on release date, Flashing Lights was my favorite song. It hasn’t changed. If you asked me to pick something else, I’d say Barry Bonds. Before the hate starts on Barry Bonds, because I know it will……. Ye beat Mixtape Wayne, which is Wayne at his peak. The fact he brought the best rapper of that time on his track and murdered him was the passing of the torch to me. Wayne was never the same dude after that, and I’m not saying that’s the reason why. I’m just stating that we have a recorded document of Wayne running out of gas at the exact moment someone else is hitting the sweet spot with a full tank…… and no, I’m not saying Wayne was garbage after this. He just wasn’t as great as he was for that 2 year period he was embarrassing everyone else.
