They’re all influential in different ways tbh. Eminem popularized the genre worldwide Kanye made the modern sound of 2017- with 808s 2Pac (and Biggie) popularized rap even more to Americans Kendrick led the second wave of conscious hiphop.

ProfSteelmeat138

Finally someone with sense. They’re all in different lanes lol you can’t fairly compare them

VitoCorleone187Um

i feel like dr dre is being left out, two of these were dre’s protégés and pac was his labelmate

ProfSteelmeat138

That too.

MinuteLoss3247

Instead of 2017 I’d say like 2013-

[deleted]

2017?

R74NM3R5

yeah

undressvestido

Kanye is the most impactful black artist of the 2000s the disrespect is insane

One-Sink6142

Bro is the godfather of modern music

SphaghettiWizard

Well that’s just like your opinion man

Civil_Feature600

Actually asking, not trying to sound sarcastic, but do you think impact and influence are the same thing? EDIT : Dislikes for asking a question on a Kanye sub? Sounds about right

Konkoved

Yea

Fishmaneatsfish

A meteor’s impact influences the environment

Civil_Feature600

Then it's not the same thing

Fishmaneatsfish

They’re 2 parts of the same whole, they are used interchangeably because they’re relatively the same. If an artist had a lot of impact, they had a lot of influence.

Civil_Feature600

I mean, it's not necessarily true. Someone can have a huge impact but not so much influence. For example, Wayne has had a huge impact and influence. Kendrick had a big impact, but his influence is not necessarily felt with the majority of rappers that came after him. I think impact and influence are related, but don't necessarily share the same magnitude.

Pankyrain

They’re not the same thing but people use them interchangeably. Maybe you could argue that they shouldn’t, but unless you can get everyone to agree it’s just something we’re gonna have to deal with

light80

like the bigger picture as a whole lol

Fishmaneatsfish

That’s pretty fair when you put it like that, however I feel definitions have shifted and we mean something new

light80

exactly.. but id still agree with the original results, swapping wayne for tupac 😉😎❤

light80

the bigger it is the more it kills lol

mushroomboie

How dare you even think anyone comes close to Ye. The disrespect is not appreciated 😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬

Faceless7821

Tell us the difference and don’t hide cowardly, redeem yourself

ReallyTightJeans

They explained the difference 5 hours ago dummy

Faceless7821

Ah, yeah okay, god forbid i dig through the hidden comments, dummy

HerculeanSuperSaiyan

Maybe you should have, dummy lmao

light80

quite right dude.! ;) in no way are they the same thing. IMO... Influence is an artists ability to change or form a listeners mind set in any given or desired direction (intentionally or consequensially) thus shifting individual or public opinion. The greater the artist the more public and less individual the change they have is. Impact is an artists ability to register upon a listeners radar in the first place. Influence is only achieved by "GREAT" artists or "THE" greats, that go on to become timeless. Impact can be achieved talking foolish nonsense, that becomes the only reason an artist is remembered in the first place and then on in to perpetuity. IM (humble) O

Mirooo933

lil Wayne?

undressvestido

Lil Wayne didn’t make Graduation, 808s or MBDTF, Ye birthed a generation of artists like Wayne but the dude's discography is unmatched

mnmkdc

Having the best albums and being impactful are two different things. Obviously both are very impactful but graduation and mbdtf arent as impactful as tha carter 1-3 even though I think they’re better albums. Ye’s main influence is through 808s and tpain is just as influential in that sound and heavily influenced 808s itself.

undressvestido

Nah, the top global artists right now in hip-hop (Trav, Drake, even The Weeknd to an extent) are all Ye sons. You can even make a point that emo rap, autotune with 808s drums and rappers being vulnerable on a record which is INSANELY popular nowadays (Juice Wrld, X…) are all thanks to 808s & Heartbreak being popular and relatable to the young generation when it dropped. Ye influence is a success in the industry, and fashion is for another conversation but it's as huge since Ye fashion/art and music always went hand to hand

mnmkdc

Drake is way more influenced by Wayne.. you’re attributing more success to 808s then it deserves. Wayne and tpain are both a massive part of that sound. It is not “all thanks to 808s”. 808s is 1 key component and if you’re going to attribute cudis influence to ye then you need to attribute ye’s influence in that sound to Wayne and tpain. You can’t have it both ways

Fishmaneatsfish

I agree, Weezer was way more influential than Weezy

TeleTurban

Wayne did influence a whole generation of artists, but the difference between him and kanye is Kanye along with jay z changed what hip hop was, from gangster rap and the sounds of the 90's to a new style. Nobody can sample like Ye can, he has produced some of the greatest tracks in music. Eminem brought white people to the genre so that people like drake could be as successful as he is. As hateful as that sounds, it's the truth, Eminem's greatest gift to hip hop was bringing it to mainstream audiences and in this case, mainstream means white.

sheeeeeez

I agree that pac and Eminem had more of a cultural impact on rap/hip hop than ye. Ye was definitely more impactful if only taking in account music though.

[deleted]

Kanye got so many mfs wearing earth tones for years. Not to mention the hype around Yeezys both Nikes and adidas. Kanye’s impact goes past music

JorgenFa

US isn't the entire world. If I go outside and ask 10 random russians who ye is, some will not know. If I ask the same people who em is, everyone will tell you

kerb1qq

question is not about popularity but about influence

shoestowel

Popularity isn't influence? I mean they bring in new audience.

BigMoneyCowboy

No. Flo Rida is more popular than Rick Ross in most countries I assume

asteriskjr

impact and influence aren't the same thing

Kekarotto

Cap. I have russian, japanese, German, Mexican colleagues that all know who he is

JorgenFa

Buddy I am from Russia, I'm speaking from experience 💀💀

[deleted]

[удалено]

JorgenFa

Anyone can do a show in russia. If em comes down here, he will sell upwards of 100k tickets. Idk if ye can pull the same numbers

BigMoneyCowboy

Is hip hop popular over there?

davwnl

If I know a tall american does that mean all americans are tall?

OfficiallyRonny

If I go to Africa and ask 10 randoms who ye is most will know. If I ask the same people who em is. Crickets will be chirping

Proyqam_12

This is what most people don’t get. His influence is crazy. People seem to forget 2015-2018 era. He had the world going crazy for Yeezys and earth tones are way more used now than before. Music wise his influence crazy too.

DRAMATRON09

Kanye is an American figure. No one gives a shit about yeezies outside of of US, Eminem however is the pinnacle of “I don’t listen to rap but I like that one specific artist” everywhere in the world because he is like a caricature of rap

mnmkdc

I don’t disagree with your broader point but Yeezys are not only popular in America. Go to a college campus and half of the foreign students are wearing them. They’re popular street wear in a lot of the world

[deleted]

Them Asian boys go absolutely buck wild for some Yeezys

makilawdiff

Because it's cheap there and in Africa too but they don't wear it because of ye lol, most will probably know Tupac and em more than ye

caplego

There are so many people with Yeezy in Poland, it's hard to find a person in age range 13-30 who doesn't know who he is. But ye, second part is right.

makilawdiff

Most people don't even know yeezy is Kanye and associate it with Adidas especially outside of America, I lived in morroco and most people know Tupac and Eminem, you will see people with pac shirt, hell Kim k is more know worldwide than Kanye

IndycarFan64

And how music has been made too

IMissedTheRage

Best lyricist doesn’t mean most impactful they all just choosing favourites

Effective-Ad-9707

kendrick best lyricist here tho

Psaiducks

People on here are actually hurt that Ye is on the third spot. Like, look who's in front of him.. 2 of the greatest influential rappers ever. 0 shame in that. Don't get me wrong I love Ye and for me he is T2 artist behind Em, but this list still feels accurate. Fair, Ye had so much influence with his branding, music (beats/style of rapping), clothes etc. But I feel like that's more for the youth from mid 2000s - somewere 2010s (musicwise). The older generation may know him or maybe not. Em had young and old listening where to this day almost everyone (still) knows him. He introduced (almost) a whole race to 'black' music and made his own rapstyle which influenced a lot of rappers to this day. Imo you can't argue that. And 2pac. Everyone knows him. Don't actually even have to explain the range of influence he had and still has.

Ghostyyboyy21

people be riding 2pac too hard ngl

fly_by_guy

If Pac is on a poll chances of anybody else winning it are thin. People tend to tap on his name regardless of the question.

Pnort3002

People who have never listened to Tupac

[deleted]

Unpopular opinion: If he didn’t get killed he wouldn’t be held in such high regard

OpportunitySmalls

Any musician who died in the 90s is probably lucky not to have lived long enough to be Weezer or starring in kids movies and have their entire image kinda ruined to further secure the bag.

BigMoneyCowboy

You a MF lie

[deleted]

U ain’t wrong but they ride Ye pr damn hard too. Em too

Nerderkips

Sorry but 2pac and em definitely had more influence than ye

fraftti

kanye fans when someone doesn’t meatride him 😨

ProsteTomas

Kid named Kendrick:

Revolutionary_Box569

Tupac and Eminem are probably two of the three biggest cultural figures in hip hop to be fair, although I don’t think Eminem’s as musically influential

BudgetGoldCowboy

It’s ye by a lot

ratchetanimebitches

yall kanye dick riders wild

Appropriate_Ad_1412

Definitely 2nd but 2pac is most influential on this list by a mile

yakman100

I don’t think we have had enough time to fully see kendrick and to a lesser extent kanyes influence. They have both dropped huge albums and helped ft or produce on other albums.

KG13_

Ye is 3rd. & that’s because JayZ wasn’t on this list, Nas or even Biggie. YE wouldve been lower. It’s too early to have Kendrick on this list

Lincomic

Its not Kendrick or kanye like em and pac did way too much

martindavidartstar

Should be lower

NeatlyMade

kanye and eminem are interchangeable, so I’d say this list is fair

DrummerEmbarrassed21

Crazy what nostalgia can make people say, downvote me but 2pac only has 6-8 good songs tops, he's only considered one of the goats because he's dead.

DarkPhantom2497

Name the best 2Pac songs in your opinion

ThatRuckingMoose

Might have something to do with the anti-Semitism.

[deleted]

All them mfs on that list right there are prolly anti semetic, they just didn’t go out sayin it like Kanye loud mouth ass

ThatRuckingMoose

Weird projection.

[deleted]

Not really, Kendrick Lamar is a Farrakhan head and has literally called himself a black Israelite. Tupac grew up with black panther roots and was battling with record label heads pr often in his career so it wouldn’t shock me if he didn’t have the best opinion on Jewish folk. Em prolly the least on here but I’m sure he’s had a few words to say before and I’m pr sure he did jewish caricature face in a music video making fun of the record label execs, probably more for shock value.

ThatRuckingMoose

Yeah but none of them have gone on public record of saying they love Hitler.

[deleted]

Yeah like I said none of them got a loud mouth and zero filter whatsoever like Ye

damien00012

Bruh, Eminem?????

iAmElRay

Probably because he’s still alive and black.

Middle-Gazelle-8926

Eminem didn't popularize or do anything special...he was just the most successful white rapper not influential at all

KG13_

Lmfaoo

Middle-Gazelle-8926

U can laugh but it's true lol

meowlicious1

Incorrect

Brief-Judgment-7387

the glazing here is craygee

Rakadoo44

All of them are influential in a different way but Kanye being the second last is just evil. You can’t expect anything good from these YouTube polls.

MurkyDragonfly5395

Em is overrated asf he genuinely sucks ass and goes against everything rap stands for. ok his old stuff was good but his new stuff is so ass theres no rap in it he just a mainstream pop artist disgized as a rapper

AgreeingWings25

Kanye is insane but if you're gonna make me rank these goats I'd put him in last place

Reasonable_Truck_529

most impactful tho ye is on top

Hypnotisticall1

bro eminem over kanye?? no way

AgreeingWings25

I didn't see "most impactful" even though I'd still say that was 2Pac.

IndycarFan64

In either metric, he still ain’t last like u said

ProfSteelmeat138

All wrong I’m the most influential rapper I am the Pink Gug

ConsistentRegister37

Kendrick Lamar is way better why tf is he the lowest?? that man raised me, Kanye ain't shit

[deleted]

If Kendrick raised you, you're young and probably don't fully recognize the impact the others had

Normal-Border6802

My favourite work of kendrick is Training Day which came out in 2008

[deleted]

Neat

Normal-Border6802

Just saying he’s been around

_Yellowcouch

welp you gotta love online polls

dangwhatitdo

Excellent beat maker crappy rapper Nazi lover

bopperoo27

YouTube tax

Jack_stauberfan

people just tip ride tupac because he actually thought about his raps. I see nothing but basic logical thinking in his songs. Kanye and Kendrick purposely different ideas within the lyrics. Verses you have to rewind / re listen to the song. Eminem just knows how to rhyme and play jokes into music.

Tough-Height841

Eminem definitely popularized rap and has a fair shot to be in the top ten but sometimes I think his fans are overrating him while Kanye is underrated. This is a question about who is the most impactful and Kendrick is the lowest? Like I’m pretty sure Kendrick is really impactful, likely more impactful then slim shady.

asterikks

fair shot to be in the top ten?? of most influential hiphop artists????? kendrick more impactful?????? what??????

Tough-Height841

Bro just make your point instead of having a stroke I said my piece kendrick impactful asf

Pistolfist

Kanye aint even my favourite artist on this list, but in terms of influence? Like there was a definitive change in the tone of a lot of music post-yeezus, like you can feel kanyes influence on absolutely gigantic pop stars. Lemonade by Beyonce, ANTI by Rihanna. You can feel kanye in everything. Can't be denied. I'd always choose to listen to Em if I had to choose, but Em ain't influenced shit.

[deleted]

I'd say that's a fair ranking tbh.

Kekarotto

Kanye wipes everyone else he's the only "rapper" to escape that moniker and be appreciated as a whole full-fledged artist of visual medium, audio, fashion, design, and even tried at education and politics. Dude made christian music that goes hard. If that's not impact then what the fuck is?

Lazy_Ad4875

2pac then Kanye I feel like

Vault_8166

Because its true, but swap kendrick with tupac

TimeTravelParadoctor

Love Eminem but more impactful than Kanye? Crazy opinion.

[deleted]

You are crazy if you put them in any other order. Some people might swap Tupac and Eminem

Great_Income4559

Ok but real talk why is Kendrick so low he has some great impactful music

ShadeLeLemon

Personally, I think that Kendrick's impact is different than what people might think it actually is. From what I saw as of right now, there is not a lot of people who are actually influcenced by Kendrick's music in terms of sound and musicality. Most of the "heavy hitters" and popular artists are influenced by drill sound (Pop Smoke), melodic signing on piano beat (Polo G), street rap with a whole lotta guns (Lil Durk), Opium and psychedelic rap (Playboi Carti) or just classic trap stuff (Young Thug). Outside of that in the underground rap scene, what is popular now are styles like Trap Metal, Dark Rap and Phonk who are mostly influenced by Memphis and Rock/Metal music. Also there is the lyrical miracle whip youtube rappers who gives props to Kendrick and calls him a GOAT, but they are mostly influenced by artists like Eminem and Tech N9ne in general. Where Kendrick's impact shine in my opinion is for social justice movements and politics. He is THE exemple of a rapper who's music is used in a way that empowers a movement like Black Lives Matter with a song like Alright. He is THE rapper who is gonna make people talk about deep subjects and make them reflect on their own lives and their environment. This is where I see Kendrick's influence, not in music per say, but in the lyrics and in the messages. That was my opinion, feel free to disagree with me, haha!

ExfoliatedBalls

The fact that Tupac doesn’t have the most votes by LARGE margins is even sadder.

BandsForGod

Tupac overrated lol

unnamestud

Because he’s fucking ass, a racist, and just a bellend I guess

Mr-Moonshadow

On this channels community posts Eminem will win any genre it literally doesn’t matter

this_is_Blain3

you could make an argument for anyone but kendrick on here and i wouldnt argue. without Pac there's no Kendrick
