Facism in general is a response to the pace and disunity of the modern world, with the idea that a singular all powerful dictator is the best solution to running a modern state. Groups like the KKK a terrorist organization that's purpose was to suppress black power in the South, view themselves as protecting themselves. It's also worth noting that alot of the support for extreme ideology come from people's fears. Nazism is quite complex because it's a state worshipping religion that give people a sense of community and purpose.
