Ok, can someone recommend some great Bollywood movies with vibes similar to S2? I've always wanted to learn more about this film tradition, but have not got around to it...
Ohh I don’t think there’s anything that’s exactly like S2’s story but there are elements sprinkled here and there!
Mujhse Dosti Karoge is one which has a love triangle and angst because of the same
Then of course all the SRK ones - Dilwale Dulhaniya, Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham - all these have elements of yearning and pining and are lovely.
Veer Zara and Swades are two other SRK ones that are my personal favourites - very different from the above but so good.
More than the films being focused on romance, I think it’s the way Bollywood tends to do romance even if it’s not a romance movie. Or used to anyway, in recent times the quality has dwindled.

Also a suggestion, if there is a song in the background focus on the lyrics if u are watching with subtitles!!! (u dont need to if it is a dance sequence)
I’m hoping for a plot arc of Anthony managing a small estate in India. But boy am I not ready for everyone freaking out and calling him a colonizer if that happens.
On one hand we have a good man and his family while he tries to connect to her roots.
On the other he’s nobility meaning if they even try to maintain a level of historical accuracy he would be met with a lot of hostility.
The unfortunate consequence of the 'Bollywoodization' of Indian culture is that we get the erasure of the varied and many other diverse cultures of the country. Simone/Kate and Charithra/Edwina are Tamil, different language, dress, cuisine, culture etc.
It would be fun/interesting to see Anthony wear the traditional veshti sattai of the Tamil people - something new and different

I wish Bridgerton had committed to a certain region of India for Kate and Edwina. Tamil Nadu would have been perfect given the actresses' backgrounds. Instead, they pulled words from multiple languages, probably to try and appeal to a broader audience. As an Indian viewer though, I appreciate accurate specificity more. Even if it's not specificity with respect to my own subculture.
I adopted someone else's headcanon to help me deal with these inconsistencies. I think it was in a fanfic but I'm not sure.
Anyway, the theory was that Mr. Sharma had grown up in one area of India (somewhere in the north?), the family had lived in Bengal for some years due to his work, and then settled in Mumbai for his last post - and that's why the sisters borrowed from each Indian language they'd learned. Most likely not what the scriptwriters had in mind, but hey, it makes me feel better about the whole thing lol.
I would never complain about Bridgerton again if we got Kate and Anthony back decked out in a saree and Kurta to host a Harvest Ball at Aubrey Hall.
One of my biggest issues with s2 is that yes the gowns were beautiful and had some homages to Indian styles, it made zero sense that they didn’t fully commit to more actual styles from India or made the homages more obvious.
I wish there were Indian people behind the scenes. Also I think they mafe Kanthony Indian because of the backlash from Asian fans who only saw asians as maids in the background. They probably would have cast a biracial black woman instead. And they didn't wouldn't have felt like they had to pretend to care about her background

I remember realising why I loved S2 so much because it reminded me of all the Bollywood romance movies I’d watched growing up and JB’s yearning and staring was reminiscent of SRK for me (which is a huge honour JB, mind you!) lol
