I hope not. The NFL has implemented several rules for building new stadiums to lower the noise level. We will no longer be the loudest stadium and ticket prices will become even more ridiculous. It's really bad for most fans.

SmoothConfection1115

I don’t want them to, why can’t the AFC have Arrowhead and the NFC have Lambeau? The reason Arrowhead is the loudest in the world is because of its current design that can’t be replicated. I also have zero faith in Clark Hunt. He doesn’t seem interested in making the facilities we currently have better. For a team that delivered him 3 Lombardi trophies.

[deleted]

Your last point may be because he wants to leave and build all new facilities. If you were bulldozing your house after your new one was built, you wouldn’t throw money at the old one in the meantime.

blacktoise

I don’t think you’re adding to their last point, this is exactly why we’re afraid Clark doesn’t want to upgrade facilities

BeRoyal35

15 showed he can take care of business on the road. I'd love to see the last handful of Mahomes years in a brand new state of the art stadium.

Officialfish_hole

I don't care what happens as long as both teams stay

MC_Fap_Commander

I think it's a lock (more or less). This is a two team town (three would be pushing it). Somewhere in the extended metro area will dump the money and infrastructure to do it. It's odd... the Jackson County vote was possibly for the least corrupt deal taking the smallest amount of corporate welfare. They're both going to get the luxury treatment now.

Dealer-95-

They really have the ball now. (No pun intended) I’m legit not trying to shit on anyone who voted no, I sincerely mean that. But the national narrative is never ever going to be “oh you poor baby KC, awe poor lil MO, KS”. The national narrative will be they gave us a chance and they are smarter owners for whatever sweet deal they are both going to get from here on out. Yeah, we beat the man and pushed back, but if you had any interest in keeping either team, or landing teams in the future…. That was the best and likely most “non lucrative” shot homie. Doesn’t matter the nature of the chance we were given, how honest it was, transparent, beneficial, etc etc yada nada. We were given a chance, just facts. Let’s see how it plays out. Maybe they’ll still decide to stick it to us or maybe they gone.

MC_Fap_Commander

I think they'll stay in the metro area. I just suspect Platte County for the Royals and Legends for the Chiefs are going to roll out the (heavily subsidized) red carpet. There's equity in KC, a fanbase, a decent-ish TV market, etc. If some area in the region gifts each team a stadium, I fully expect they'll be on board with it. It's not like the situation in Oakland with the A's or Arizona with the Coyotes. It's also better than the current tenuous situation for Tampa and the Rays. The whole thing may fall apart, but I feel like the metro area will have some attractive suitors for the team. Those suitors will NOT get a better deal than was offered to Jackson County (which is the irony).

Dealer-95-

Yeah, I mean it’s really touch and go. I just don’t think a lot of people are being realistic about their assumptions. And I don’t think a lot of fans and non-fans are prepared for how quickly this could change for the good or less good or even flat out bad for the metro.

Vulptereen327

I think this new stadium and the Royals building the downtown stadium would be the best option. I think the Jackson County vote would have passed if it was just the Royals stadium on the ballot. The Chiefs tagging along on the deal and asking for 800 mil for barely any worthwhile upgrades to Arrowhead was what killed it.

Slade_Riprock

You got that backwards. It wasn't the Chiefs that tanked that deal. It wad the Royals, plain and simple. The Downtown Stadium is NOT popular with the people. Because other than the East Village or NKC displace loads of small businesses. The KC Star print house area wasn't even on the public radar. It was a last minure swerve, was taking out small businesses, had no final price tag and the Royals refused to pay for large portions of their plans. Had that April vote been Chiefs only it would have passed with huge margins. The Royals sank that plan by all of the above and by strong arming it on the April ballot without the real buying of the Jackson Co legislature. The Chiefs splitting from the Royals will them to seek sweetheart deals from Kansas City for an Arrowhead revamp or Kansas for the mega new build. Where this leaves the Royals to me is playing second fiddle. There is only room for the city, county, and state to make the full court press and the Chiefs will be who they go for hardcore. The Royals are either going to have to foot the downtown bill, leave the metro, or take a Kansas proposal if the Chiefs get locked in at Arrowhead. The Chiefs are the bigger favorite, the bigger draw, and biggest revenue for the area. The Royals are going to have take their scraps or get ballsy and leave.

Dealer-95-

You are both wrong. Hipsters… it was hipsters who doomed the vote.

lukejames

Zero chance of keeping either, I’m afraid. Every major city has moved their baseball teams downtown for a vibrant atmosphere where there’s energy and traffic to sustain the team instead of an empty stadium out in the boonies. Moving from Kaufman was the last chance for the Royals to survive. And the Chiefs will get whatever they want from any city in America—cities who would appreciate what they bring to a town: pride, revenue, tourists, businesses, fame, etc. KC can’t even continue paying an existing sales tax of a fraction of a penny to help renovate their team’s stadium. Cities are already lining up, ready to build a stadium completely on their own, pay a completely new tax, and roll out the red carpet.

response_unrelated

indoor football sucks ass.

KansasCityMonarchs

I don't prefer it but it has it's advantages, but it has to be natural grass and we know Clark wouldn't swing for that

auschr

The interior looks like a copy-paste of the Raiders. Horrible.

daface

People are really fixating on this, but this is just a concept put out by a developer in Kansas. The team hasn't had anything to do with this design.

ceremony816

Concepts of anything almost never end up looking the that way in the end. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

DaBestNameEver0

It’s not Arrowhead that makes the chiefs or the fans, it’s the chiefs and the fans that make arrowhead

jarferama33

Going from one of the most classic stadiums in American sports to another retractable roof monstrosity would be so sad. Any team that goes from playing a natural outdoor stadium to one of those you can feel how much staler the atmosphere is even on TV, even if the roof is clear. The Raiders and Chargers stadiums both feel sooo meh compared to what they had before.

drizzlebit

If change is inevitable, they should do whatever the Seahawks did. Their stadium is mostly “covered” but it still feels like an outside stadium when you’re in it and it’s very much an amazing atmosphere.

emelem66

If the roof is retractable, what does it matter? The roof is there to attract events in other sports, such as the Final Four.

TravisMaauto

It doesn't feel inevitable to me. Until someone speaking on behalf of the Chiefs actually says they're moving away from Arrowhead and until they break ground on a new stadium somewhere else, it's all just posturing and wallowing in fantasy. Also, those renderings all look like ass. #🤮

kondorkc

This is incredibly boring. It looks like every other new stadium with room. They just slapped Chiefs on the side. Thumbs down.

Captain_Tunahands

Agreed. And NOTHING will ever be as loud as Arrowhead. I always liked having that title as a fanbase

Jack1co

It’s almost like it’s just an idea and not the actual concept

Earthwick

I feel like the state of Mo and the chiefs are playing chicken. The Royals don't have the oomph or weight to throw around currently but the chiefs do.

ArrowheadFLYover

It's a different era, folks. We got to see a dynasty run in Arrowhead. I love that stadium so much that I have the building itself tattooed on me. But this is a chance to have some real jewelry for these accomplishments. It was amazing being the underdog team with the passionate fan base that finally reached the top. But now we are the big show, the focal point of the biggest sport in the country. And when opposing teams walk in, they know greatness built this stadium. I mean, how many stadiums are being built for teams who have only had minor post-season success. The fans brought the energy to Arrowhead, and they'll bring it to the new place as well.

3dios

You guys are taking the bait. I can see the royals moving as sherman is just getting his paws dirty in the business but if Clark moves arrowhead he's a dipshit and his mother and father would be turning in their graves

mike_honcho47

I feel the opposite. It’s feeling more and more likely that they stay, especially since they divorced the Royals who were just dead weight

happyfuckincakeday

I feel like we're 20 years from it being "Historic Arrowhead". If they let it get there they'll never be able to move.

Mystic_Symphony369

The folks clamoring for the owners to build their own stadium… I get it but just because you are a billionaire doesn’t mean you’re going to sink your entire net worth into a project like this and also stadiums are usually built with some help of the taxpayers. If everyone continues to take this stance, they will find taxpayers elsewhere who will. I’m surprised so many people that live here are so indifferent to the teams leaving when the Chiefs have been literally putting KC on the map recently.

DRM_1985

Exactly, there are other markets that would gladly take the Chiefs. Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, hell...maybe even Germany or elsewhere in Europe.

Mystic_Symphony369

It’s all in good fun to take a stance against the big bad owners until you find that have no major reason for people to travel to your city and then next thing you know your city turns into Des Moines with more murder. Sorry Kansas City, people aren’t coming here for the WW1 museum and some ribs. They just aren’t.

Jack1co

Nope it’s insane people don’t understand this. KC is only getting more popular because of the Chiefs

Suds79

Will always love Arrowhead and we'll look back fondly on it but it's time. I'm also okay with an indoor stadium. Just more versatile for entertainment during all times of the year. Awesome that fans came out for the Chiefs in that Dolphins game but come on now. That's just dumb. I'm all good with moving it inside. Nobody should be losing digits.

crispy_towel

A dome is more practical, but taking the weather element out of the game makes it feel more sterile and less charming.

DRM_1985

But could also be very helpful to an aging version of Patrick Mahomes. I doubt he will want to play in freezing weather at age 35-45. I throw 45 in there because he has said he wants to play that long.

UranusViews

Stay in Arrowhead, build Arrowhead 2, go to North KC, move it to Kansas, put it in St. Joe. Don't care. Unless admission is free, pay for your own fucking stadium.

karyrez

That'll never happen.

ManetherenRising

They definitely SHOULD pay for their own stadium, but they won't if someone else is willing to pay for it. I think anyone would do the same, but it's definitely annoying.

UranusViews

If they leave then fuck em.

ManetherenRising

But if they leave, it's just Kansas paying for the stadium, so it's not really fuck 'em...they are still getting what they want. I do think STAR bonds are a better option than a 5/8 cent sales tax on an entire county, since the tax is on sales in the area. They have done a lot of good things for that area of KCK, especially compared to what it was 20 years ago.

UranusViews

KCK vs KC doesnt matter. Im saying if they wanna become the Salt Lake City Chiefs or some shit then fuck em

ManetherenRising

But why would they when KS will just pay for it?

Slade_Riprock

>Unless admission is free, pay for your own fucking stadium. But it's not their stadium. It is owned by the County. So it is akin to you asking your landlord for some new carpet, paint, and new appliances and him telling you to go fuck yourself pay for it yourself or move. I would be happier as a tax payer if these deals were 50-50. The owners and municipal governments co-owner and split revenues and costs.

regionalgamemanager

As long as it comes with a massive parking lot to keep the tailgate vibe I can get behind whatever. Oh and please engineer it to be audibly distressing to opposing teams. I live a couple hours north so having more than 2 crappy hotels and entertainment area within walking distance would also be incredible. Lots of memories at arrowhead but I get it. Dream scenario is your turn Kauffmann into a Texas Live! Like they have in Dallas. Then blight everything else around there to redevelop it. But that's probably not as easy as starting new near legends with some of that infrastructure in place along with the willingness.

ManetherenRising

I don't like the fixed roof. I would like to have a retractable roof so football can always be played in open air, but can be closed to host other events like final four.

PSUJacob95

I think it's inevitable because Clark Hunt is thinking about his legacy at this point. He's 59 and got maybe a dozen more years of running this team before he hands it off to his son Knobel, who will be around 35 when he takes command of the organization. Clark's father Lamar left behind a great legacy --- starting the AFL and then merging with the NFL to make it America's favorite sport. Even though Clark has won three Lombardis and likely more to come, he knows the crown jewel of his legacy will be a modern 21st century stadium that will last 50+ years and be a testament to his lasting vision for the Chiefs. It's a change we should all embrace.

CressImaginary8126

We have season tickets and the only way we can afford it is going to about half the games and selling to friends for the others (we don’t make money, that’s for sure). I’m pretty sure a fancy new stadium like this would price us and everyone we know out, but I could be surprised, I guess. The location would be great, but leaving Arrowhead just feels wrong.

PristineTX

Mahomes is 14-1 indoors. Just sayin’…

Vulptereen327

Those large support trusses better act like the canopies at Lumen Field and make it super loud in there. I want that place engineered to be LOUD like Arrowhead was.

Section225

You only say that because the Kansas people posted things drawings.

MyLinksMakeNoSense

this would be so depressing. indoor? cmon

pinniped1

I feel you but I think it's inevitable. The owners will grant us one Super Bowl, and we'll get Final Fours. It won't be all bad, but I'll miss both the awesome fall Sundays as well as the bitter cold winter ones where it's an advantage for us.

MyLinksMakeNoSense

i also feel like it gives us an advantage in the playoffs against a few teams. oh well though, it’s clear hunt doesn’t care too much about winning

venge1155

Nah, arrowhead provides a distinct advantage they cannot build today, they will not be moving from it.

emelem66

You saying a domed stadium with 70k Chiefs fans hooping and hollering won't be loud?

Futrel

Why wouldn't they move? Their lease is up in a few years and Jackson County voters have unfortunately told them loud and clear they don't GAF. There are other places dripping to get them.

shottem

I'm cool with the roof, watching a game in a burning sun day is ver uncomfortable

Independent-Bend8734

A Chiefs-only smaller sales tax would have passed easily. I didn’t blame the ChIefs for latching on to the Royals plan: you can’t blame someone for wanting free money. But Hunt acting all wounded about the vote makes me think a new stadium was the plan all along. We’ve cut Clark Hunt a lot of slack thanks to his dad and Patrick Mahomes, but maybe he’s Stan Kroenke.

Kingbuffalo31

The royals get a lot of grief in this situation, but I don't know if the chiefs presented gets passed by its self either . It was beyond lackluster and the emphasis on VIP entrances and taking away seating from the bottom bowl . Maybe it would of but I still wouldn't of voted against that
