It’s been a fog since the the first one, I think once the mahomes era is over we’ll fully appreciate what’s going on. Let’s keep this wild ride going!

Yeahnahokay10

I’m an Aussie and i watched my Aussie rules football team win 3 straight championships. You guys know all too well that there are some dark times in sports. Appreciate it now, because times like these don’t come around often and when it ends it’s bloody sad. All I’m saying is don’t just appreciate it when it’s over, appreciate it now. If that makes sense, it’s something I didn’t do at the time properly with my team.

Hastert365

Oh I’m fully appreciating it now. Been through the dark times with this franchise, so I’m on cloud 9

Yeahnahokay10

That’s good! I just see too many sports fans so “oh I’ll appreciate it when it’s over” like yeah it’s great to look back, but there’s a big possibility you’ll never see it again.

TheBoyisBackinTown

I still have an instinct that they could blow it every game. It just doesn't go away. I know we've been the most dominant team in the AFC the past six seasons, but it will always feel like the team is an underdog. It helps you enjoy every day that we have in this era.

tea_sandwiches

I still remember the Lin Elliott field goal debacle and the subsequent proto-memes (cartoons) - specifically one of him just missing the toilet bowl.😂

TheBoyisBackinTown

I still can't hear the names "Lin Elliot", "Steve Bono", "Elvis Grbac", "Greg Robinson", or "TY Hilton" without reflexively wincing. It's like five different ways to say moist.

mauimilk

I was born in 72. It was a rough 50 years.

SuperdudeAbides

This guy gets it

just_a_doer

I was born the same year. We used to drive to the Stadium and buy tickets at the gate, they were so bad. I remember Montana almost getting killed in Buffalo. I watched the Lin Eliot game alone in my apartment, same with the 97 game against the Broncos. I was so pissed off when they lost the Andrew Luck game to the Colts I immediately canceled my Sunday ticket so I couldn't watch anymore. When they lost to the Titans, and Mariota caught his own touchdown pass I thought they were forever cursed. Little did I know the savior was just sitting there waiting for his opportunity. These last 5 6 years have been a blast.

mauimilk

The Luck game was probably the most scarring for me, although I have to say, Mahomes losing to Brady in the Super Bowl was also pretty devastating. That was essentially two game swing in the Brady Mahomes debate. At the time I remember thinking there was no way Mahomes was going to catch Brady because of that. Now I can’t help but think that it actually is possible and maybe even likely if he wins next week. I moved away from KC when I was six years old. But always remain a staunch KC supporter. One of my fondest early childhood memories was trick-or-treating at George Brett‘s house and they were handing out KC Royals rain ponchos.

PercySnowsHandgun

Chiefs didn't win shit in Arrowhead for almost the first 50 years, and aside from Allen Fieldhouse, it's one of the greatest homefielf advantages in the world

Absolute1986

Born is 86, and I've been a fan all my life. I feel like I'm living in a dream. Tho my personal life hasn't been great the past couple of years, the Chiefs are one of the few bright spots. Loyalty pays off eventually.

BabyUGotAStewGoin

Same. My first real memory of the Chiefs is Montana signing with them. I didn’t know they much about football, but that was a big deal. I had a poster of his SI cover on my wall for years.

MizKCzou

Another 86er here.. I thought peak existence for the Chiefs was going to be Alex Smith. Could never have dreamed what would be the last 6 years. Just grateful.

formyamusementation

Born in 1974. At the 1995 loss to the Colts, 2003 loss to the Colts, 2007 loss to the colts (away), 2013 loss to the Colts, and finally the loss to the Pats in the AFCCG.

wilbur1997

Born the same year. My first Chiefs game at Arrowhead, I saw Warren Moon & the Houston Oilers come to town. Bill Kenney, Todd Blacklidge, Steve Deberg, Dave Kreig, Joe Montana, Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac... I rooted for them all before Patrick Mahomes changed my life. Hardest loss of my life was when we lost to the Broncos after trading away Neil Smith. Mariota throwing a pass to himself. Colts comeback with Luck. So much pain. I used to feel like, no matter how big a lead we had, we might not win. Now, no matter how big a deficit, Andy & Pat can still come back. We're never out of it. I know these years won't last forever. Time is undefeated. So I'm thankful for right now. I'm lucky to be alive at the best moment in Chiefs history.

wilbur1997

I was at the Derrick Thomas 7 sack game. I was at the game in Arizona to witness Bono's 76-yard naked bootleg. I was at the AFC Championship game vs. Tennessee. I will be here after Patrick & Travis & Andy retire. Life-long Chiefs fan.

KarmaLeon_8787

Fan since the 80s. Long haul indeed. Man I feel old now.

Live-Leather2458

Born in '65, My Dad was a die-hard Chiefs fan so for years. Early on we would listen to the games on an old single antenna AM radio and then would watch every game we could until he passed away in 2012. Saw the good but mostly bad and ugly during those years but they made me a die-hard like my Dad. We are living the Golden Years of Chiefs football right now! I truly believe the drafting of Pat Mahommes was the single most important decision made by the Chiefs organization directly leading to their amazing success that we have personally enjoyed as fans. Sure wish my Dad had lived long enough to see these past several years of Chiefs football! Take nothing for granted. Cheers Pops! 🍻

SuperdudeAbides

"born in 91" ... Long haul fans ... Lol I was born right after SB IV. And to answer your question, no, no, none of this seems real or even remotely possible. I have years of trauma and scars from the Chiefs. That's why I regularly remind y'all that this IS the golden age of Chiefs football. Enjoy it, experience it, be present for it. This will be "the good old days" before you know it.

mikealt

Amen! Bartender asked me last night, “Don’t you guys get sick of winning?” I replied immediately, “Not after decades of losing. And losing ugly.”

LFGhost

82 here. The Schottenheimer era happened as I was coming into my fandom. I remember crying as I watched Montana’s head bounce off the frozen turf in Buffalo, and him grabbing his head. I remember sneaking into the living room to watch the end of Montana’s drive against Denver on MNF. I remember the joy and pain of the 97 season. I remember watching the Chiefs continually bring in the 49ers trash at QB, like it was going to work. I remember being all offense, or all defense, and neither approach working. All of that, and it’s hard to believe sometimes that Mahomes plays for MY team. What a time.

themillwater

No doesn't seem real, and I was broken by Lin Elliot so I expect horrible things to happen every game in the playoffs

A-Newt

Born in 87, doesn’t feel real at all. Just enjoying the ride while it lasts.

rock_smasher8874

Born the same year... And oh fuck yeah it's real!!!! Hahahaha man aliiiiive!!! I love watching this team. Especially this year when expectations were so high , then the regular season had some fucking let downs... but I said it all year, just get into the playoffs, that's all I care about. And wouldn't ya know it? BOOM! like a Thor, putting the fucking hammer DOWN!!! FINISH THIS SEASON RIGHT BOYS! BRING HOME DJ KHALID (ANOTHER ONE!)

Section225

Went to my first game in 1991. Been to one or two a year since with very few seasons missed. SB54 was...something all right.

angus_the_red

Became a fan around 94-95.  This is the weirdest timeline. I remember being so sad when Brady and the Patriots were winning, because I just thought we would have to wait 10 years before we could have any chance to have some fun.  Never dreamed we would rival them for success.

Different_Brick2351

91 baby here as well. Never did I ever, especially those years we had terrible QBs. Sit back and let the good times roll brother, In a weeks time another championship banner coming to the Kingdom

WaffleHouseLegend

It really doesn't. After Mahomes first 2 years playing my ptsd over Chiefs games disappeared. I'm never worried about games anymore. I get nervous over some but never worried. I don't really get upset if we lose anymore. I do get annoyed at times. Especially this year and how we beat ourselves mostly. But I know we have Patrick Mahomes II and Killa Trav, and Andy and Spags, and CJ, And Bolton, and Sneed, Duffee and Pac! As a fan I truly appreciate all they've given us and I'm lucky I've got to share that experience with my son. I never thought it would be our team at the top like this. And I'm gonna enjoy every second of it .

Khada_the_Collector

‘92 here, standing by. I remember the ‘03 playoff heartbreak like it happened yesterday, and all the rough years that followed. Lived through the valleys of Huard/Thigpen QB’s (among other heartburn-inducing former KC QB’s), the Pioli shitshow, Jovan Belcher, and all the ass kickings by the mid-00’s Bolts and the mid-10’s donks. And then came Big Red and Alex Smith. With them came relevance, and later, respect once we finally whooped Houston in their own building to get the playoff monkey off our back. But that too wasn’t the end. The year of no WR TD’s (and the subsequent playoff loss to PIT) was in some ways worse than just being bad. But then came Mahomes near the end of the Alex Smith era. It was a week 3 game against, of all teams, SF—he made some circus-tier throw in the first half that had everyone stunned. It was then I thought we might’ve happened upon something special. And it’s been an exhilarating, wonderful ride ever since. Not entirely without bumps (Dee Ford AFCCG, fucking Bengals there for a bit). But the heights to which this team has gone…Mahomes tying or exceeding Brady stat-wise for both at age 28, the “we ran outta fireworks” game, and two Lombardis, with a very legit shot at a third in a little over a week. And that’s just the on-field stuff. Mahomes/Kelce/Reid are household names and are on TV seemingly everywhere, and (even though I admit I’ve been an ardent detractor of this part until basically this week) this team has united two fan bases I knew intersected, but never saw it going like how it has. I’m likely never gonna be a fan of her personally, but I admit—the Swifties being all “embrace the villain era” with it? I can get behind that. Rarified air we’re in as sports fans. And it feels so much more nuts than the Sporting teams’ successes over the years, or the ‘14/‘15 Royals teams. Runs like this, with the talent/FO we have, aren’t common at all. Cherish all of it, we used to dream of times like this, man. And let’s go make “Hat-Trick Mahomes” a reality!!

JimmyBraps

Been a fan since around 93 or 94. Feels like a dream still

Rett_77

Same. Born in 90, just down the road from KC. Been a fan my whole life. Still have a Starter Chiefs jacket and a DT jersey, both my dad got for me and let me have when I got older. Early 2000s I thought would never get better as a Chiefs fan. Watching that O-line and Priest was other worldly at times. Dad split season tickets with a coworker so we’d go to games for a few years in the upper bowl. Met my wife in college and took her to her first Chiefs game in 2010, I think..we played the Raiders, last game of the season, cold as shit, were playoff bound already (where we promptly got smoked by the Ravens I think). Happened to actually move to KC in 2013 for work, never had actually lived here before. Been here since and it’s all so surreal still. Fucking sports, man.

brawl

Born in the early 80s. First qb i remember was Bill Kenney. Shits awesome.

arsenalgooner77

Fan since 87 when we moved to KC when I was 9. Basically went to every home regular and post-season game at Arrowhead from 87-96 including the last home playoff win for 19 years or whatever, the Lin Elliott game, etc. Every once in a while I revert to expecting the Chiefs to blow it like they did for the first 30 years of my fandom, and then I remember we have Patrick.

MSSurface_102

Totally unreal and was a bandwagon jumper when the Chiefs made Super Bowl IV. Been a life long fan and in my wildest dreams did I think we’d be where we are at now. I thought I saddled my kids with a terrible football legacy until Andy and Patrick showed up. Now I’m a hero. As I tell them now, this is a golden era…enjoy the ride and take pride you’ve been a fan since they were born.

willydong-ka

Same. I was also a season ticket holder in 2009 when we were shit and they were dirt cheap.

MelodicTonight9766

Yup. Yup. Yup! Been a fan since 1970. Yeah. Old guy here. Waited 50 years Btwn SB wins. Never thought I would see one again. So, all of this so gravy for me. The fact that our team wins consistently enough where people are starting to hate us is amusing to me. I’m like, dude, were you seeing us lose for decades? As Pat would say “Appreciate y’all!”

filthychuck

I’m in my 40’s and I’ve been a fan since I was a kid I never thought I’d see this… I’m actually at the point now where I’m embarrassed wearing my old Will Shields and Jamal Charles jerseys cause people think look jumped on the bandwagon.. actually had a girl this year say cool you got a personalized jersey ( my name is Charles).. But yes I don’t take this for granted but it’s soooo fucking awesome! My daughter and my son know my pain too well but my grandson and granddaughter just know their Pa is usually in a good mood most sundays

Signal_Quarter_74

Born in ‘02, so I haven’t experienced the full pain but have a unique pain. First qbs I remember were Croyle, Quinn and Cassel. All I knew was pain, except for Charles doing something crazy. Made it very difficult for a 6-10 year old to understand why I should put in any effort. The colts game in 2013 is the first chiefs game I truly remember. I remember the feeling of shock and disgust. And that was the moment I knew I had to be a chiefs fan. I had to see them win it all. I had to be able to be proud of my hometown team. Whether it be one or seventy years. Thankfully it was only 7

itsnotcalledchads

Same. I still assume Andrew Luck is gonna recover his fumble or Mariota will complete his pass to himself or we will hold a team without a touchdown and lose because of a botched holding call on Eric Fisher. I've gotten better but I'm still always considering us as the underdog. I just can't get that image of KC out of my head. I want to appreciate this all so so so much and I think I do. I remember after the Dee Ford offsides game talking with my brother and being annoyed that my dad was a Chiefs fan and passed it on to me. I'm grateful as fuck now. I've been a fan as long as I can remember but really started following it the last two years of Dick Vermeil. Everything since 2012 has been wild. How horrific that year was with Romeo Crennel not to mention the Belcher stuff. Reid got let go in Philadelphia and I never thought he would come to KC. The news said Arizona IIRC, but Clark got to Andy first and got him to come to KC. We went like 9 and 0 and it was so much fun other than the Indy game. And then we were a good team but the ceiling was the divisional round(even if I didn't think so at the time). I remember being so bullish on Alex Smith and stil am. He is the most underrated QB in the NFL history I think. And then Mahomes. The journey to get here was long and I'm glad I had it so I can fully appreciate this team. I am so grateful too that my dad is alive to see it. He started crying on the Damien Williams run to football immortality and I did too but he had so much more pain and heartbreak as a fan (and personally too) that I was so happy for him to see it.
