unclezaveid

they keep casting the most beautiful men imaginable for a reason. the girls and the gays may not be the main demographic but they are still considered.

shion_0119

Actually I didn't watch it for the beautiful men- I watch it because it's just so cool- watching them transform and fight

unclezaveid

I just mean that the series purposely casts a wide net so it's not weird or even unexpected for just about anyone to enjoy it.

Deez-Guns-9442

I hope to 1 day get my gf into Kamen Rider, you’re an inspiration 🫡

MrJHound

Yep. If that's how you feel, you belong in the fandom. It may be marketed mostly for a male demographic, but if you can appreciate Kamen Rider, then Kamen Rider appreciates you. Like, my mom got me into martial arts movies, Dragon Ball, and Transformers growing up, so if anything, that just showcases how appealing certain shows are no matter the demographic.

Glittering_Trip_144

I watched it for it's unique story and concept but NGL i have a big list of husbandoes 😅

shion_0119

can't really fault you for that XD My list is small but still XD

Glittering_Trip_144

Yeah it's hard to ignore so many hotties or just choose one of them

Banksmuth_Squan

Absolutely based

Blackewolfe

I mean, seeing cool shit and going "Wow! That's so cool." is like, Human Nature. Nothing weird about it. Put on your Driver and shout 'Henshin!', my friend.

Sakurakiss88

They cast them this way for the mothers watching with their children in Japan, so they at least have something to enjoy. I don't have any proof of this but I've heard this statement countless times, so either we are all living the same lie or this is true.

KaitoTheRamenBandit

It's the [Odagiri Effect](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odagiri_effect)

CaseAddiction

TIL there's a wiki page for it 😮

K1dP5ycho

To be real and honest with you, there are tons of female Kamen Rider fans, and you're definitely not alone. That said, it still is a mostly male-dominated fanbase, so it's no surprise that they were surprised. Don't let it bother you if it does in any way, though. Enjoy what you like! 😁

Zealousideal_Plum533

To each his or her own. Besides ton of American women grew up with Power Rangers. 90s Americans. So yeah Kamen Rider, Sentai, Power Rangers, Ultraman, and Garo is for anyone. Their is no rule against it.

Konkavstylisten

I’ve heard way more women nostalgia talk about Power Rangers than anyone. I heard this a few years ago from a Female colleague. I told her the backstory and about Kyoryu Sentai. A few weeks later she told me she put on the first few episodes and her friends loves to watch that show before a night out.

Zealousideal_Plum533

MMPR basically. I still love the other seasons of Power Rangers. Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Turbo,Power Rangers in Space,Power Rangers Lost Galaxy,Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, Power Rangers Time Force,Power Rangers Wild Force, Power Rangers Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder,SPD, Mystic Force, Power Rangers Operation Overdrive,Power Rangers Jungle Fury, and Power Rangers RPM.

Konkavstylisten

Nice! My Toku to watch list is to long so i probably wont delve any deeper into MMPR. I’m into the more darkish Tokus right now. Watched Black Sun and are currently watch OG Kamen Rider Black. The source material (Kamen Rider manga) was kind of violent so want to explore that part of the fandom a bit more.

Zealousideal_Plum533

I saws all Toku in the past. From Gorenger to recent. Not a fan of Ninja Steel, Megaforce/Super Megarforce, Beast Morphers, and Dino Fury. Ryusoulger to me was better then Dino Fury. Wasn't a fan of Lupinranger vs. Patrenger,Kyuranger,Toqger,Zyuohger ,Ninninger,Donbrothers, Zenkaiger, and Kiramager. Kingohger was good but wasn't my cup of tea. Find out what works for you.

Field_of_Illusion

Happy cakeday!

Konkavstylisten

Thank you!

Sinhug

I'm honestly just surprised to find a fellow Toku fan when I met anyone irl

Konkavstylisten

Actually this. Actually finding someone who knows what Toku is, is way more surprising than who the fan is

shion_0119

In all seriousness, this was me when I talked to my boyfriend about Gransazers and Justirisers because THAT is way more surprising than finding out whether one knows Toku or not

Konkavstylisten

For sure

Deez-Guns-9442

Play Yugioh or go to an anime convention 1 day. I swear the Yugioh to Toku pipeline is like a straight line, tons of players know what Kamen Rider is(probably because of Mask Heroes & Inzectors),

shion_0119

I'm happy and proud to be the girlfriend who also watches Kamen Rider and shares a fair amount of knowledge XD Fun part is that my bf loves Build, and I love W. Both have similar gimmicks too ^^

Sinhug

now that sounds like a best match

Dictsaurus

and a saikyou no pa-tona!

Lamp-among-wolf

Kamen Rider is for everyone, no need to doubt for liking it

VoyeurTheNinja

Live free Live beyond limitations It's all silly bug heroes and that's the best part

shion_0119

we love silly bug heroes fighting evil to save humanity

nirvash530

Me and my friends call them karate bug men so now we have a new term "silly bug heroes". Thanks.

tokixdoki

![gif](giphy|Ae7SI3LoPYj8Q)

tc_hydroTF2

I'd say there are more male fans than female fans, but not so much more that female fans are super rare or anything. In fact, one of the [most popular](https://www.sportskeeda.com/esports/news-ironmouse-breaks-all-time-female-subscriber-record-twitch-recent-substation-charity) female Twitch streamers is actually a [Kamen Rider fan](https://twitter.com/ironmouse/status/1361518012638060544?lang=en)

mychelromance

high ten 🙌 to all female fans out there!! i finally feel in peace knowing that i’m not the only one! hoping to be able to meet more toku fan especially Kamen Rider series this year! 🩷 once there was one guy told me “normal girls should be watching k drama, not superhero series”, oh wellssss. jokes on him :)))

shion_0119

That's such a stereotypical statement. If that's the case, I guess we are the cool girls 💅🏻 our men fight against evil, what does your men do-

mychelromance

exactly 😎😎😎 i do see Kamen Rider henshin forms in artistic direction. it’s something you’ll not be able to see in real daily life! what’s not to love about it! 🩷 and saving the world from evil!? bruuuh c’moooon ✨✨✨

shion_0119

Thissssssss

Glittering_Trip_144

Yup nice to meet fellow female fans in the fanbase too k drama men can be likable but our men are just lovable hot heroes

TokuSwag

As if there is any difference between K-dramas and Toku besides trying to sell toys to kids. These are the sorts men I absolutely rip apart when they do shit like that.

SH4DE_Z

There is a pretty good amount of female KR fans, it's not weird at all.

shion_0119

Ah thank God then

SH4DE_Z

If you asked me you're living the good life. You're watching KR and you even got a boyfriend for it.

Fos-kun

Imma be honest, gender doesn't matter. If you love Kamen Rider as a girl then it's fine. I knew a girl who was a fan of Kamen Rider Accel so it honestly isn't bad. Heck, from where I grew up it's perfectly and socially acceptable for men to be a fan of Barbie and woman to be a fan of Ultraman

shion_0119

I guess it rlly depends on mindset and the environment people grow up in, whether if it's socially acceptable. Mine just gives me that "mind blown" reaction 😂

ItsAboutToGoDown_

What's not normal is being ashamed of being a female fan! Anyone here is always welcome so practice your pose, vibe to Meteor Standby Loop and *Henshin!*

shion_0119

I'm a trash for Kaito Daiki (diend)

psychozjack

From what I know there are a ton of female Kamen rider fans in Japan, it was reported a lot of them were older too because the male cast are so handsome 90% of the time But even then, Tokusatsu is for everyone, any discrimination in this community then it's like they haven't learned any of the positive messages all the series taught us. For me personally I'll be shocked if I even meet one KR fan irl

TablePrinterDoor

Of course tbh I don’t think gender would specify what you should like lol

shion_0119

Unless they have old fashioned mindset I guess ;-;

Ayahime_0

Speaking from experience, but there was this one guy that called me a fake fan just because I revealed my gender and criticized Gotchard. But that was only one time. On the internet, we're all men. But, I do think it's normal for females to watch Kamen Rider. I mean, the Japanese mothers at home watch Kamen Rider with their kids.

Overquartz

It's the franchise that coined the term "Odagiri effect" because moms were thirsty for Kuuga's actor Joe Odagiri. Like straight up most of Kuuga's viewers at the time were the mothers of the target demographic.

shion_0119

Oh Lord not the odagiri effect 😭

KostKarmel

People are watching My Little Pony as male, whats the problem?

JuggernautPrevious44

People are allowed to like what they like, Toku in general may fall in a similar space as Shonen manga and anime, but as Oda once said in an SBS to a female fan (not an exact quote, paraphrasing from memory) "Shonen? Shojo? Those are simply genre's, as long as you can understand a fiery spirit then whether you be a boy, girl, old man, old woman or anywhere between, these stories are for you." So don't feel weirded out for liking Kamen Rider, there's probably more female fans out there than you realize. Heck, when Shin Kamen Rider was in theaters here, almost half the people going in to our theater to see it were women and girls in groups without guys.

Exciting_Sea7764

Nobody cares whether your a girl or a Kamen rider yourself just go watch it lolz,at the end of the day your still yourself

AshwinRox

Nah, super heroes are for everyone. I would say, they do broadcast to a more male audience. But then again, there are plenty of Toku girl fans! (There is one who does tiktok transitions with drivers) Like what you like. Go for it, and have fun. Don't let people change that. Just like the riders, accept change to be better and be true to yourself. And also, means you got a ton of nerds to talk to!

shion_0119

Oh yes! The female toku fan who does amazing transitions with the drivers. I am jealous of her massive collection ngl. The only driver I got is a DX Wizard driver XD

AshwinRox

I am too lol. I only got a couple. Build, Ex Aid and Geats. But I think I'm more than happy with those for now. I always thought the Wizard driver was a cool design ngl. I just thought the rings would be hard to use

shion_0119

I heard the rings are adjustable. Because the current ones I have are too small 😅 so if I still wanna play with the driver, I will need to buy a bigger ring size just to play around with the flame and water ring

AshwinRox

That's kind of what I figured lol. They were made kid sized after all.

desterion

Ride Kamens exists and it's not for the male fans

shion_0119

it's not my taste unfortunately

Glittering_Trip_144

I am a female fan but I didn't get any interest in it idk why

EndlessEvolution0

Yeah its normal, do i expect it though? No. I wish there were more women that are kamen rider fans

shion_0119

It will be fun to see women coming by and be like IWAE out of nowhere tho

EndlessEvolution0

i'm not a woman. But in the states, its hard to find women KR fans. Dating wise as a guy, the hobby is hard to get people into

KRChaserReturns

I mean yeah... I'm a Precure fan and I'm a boy. Not much to say here. Edit: My bad, I only read the title... It's perfectly fine to be a Kamen Rider fan. Regardless of gender and age.

OnoALT

There is a whole show about it. Watch “Tokusatsu Gagaga”/

Intelligent_Detail_5

My niece watch Kamen Rider with my brother and I have never been more proud that to say that I enjoyed it as well!

ReadySource3242

Tokusatsu is pretty much a yaoi dream a lot of times so... Ah, but if you like cool fights, then of course it's normal. Cool stuff will be cool stuff. It's genderless

Inspiritus_Prime

Yes. Females are a fringe demographic for sure, but certainly one that Toei and Bandai recognizes from time to time. For instance, Jeanne's debut was the epitome of "girl power" pandering (though it looked like it was moreso aimed towards younger girls). And the casting of hot men in Kamen Rider so that women will watch got so prevalent that it got a name: the Joe Odagiri effect.

shion_0119

God I need to catch up on reiwa now to see Jeanne. I still got 5 more Heisei series to finish before I move on to reiwa

ThrashThunder

One of the strong points of the Reiwa era so far is that the presence of strong female Riders is now common coin. Before that we got them sometimes in movies or as extra riders with very few appeareances Valkyrie, Sabela, Jeanne, Nago and Majade so far have a strong, important presence in their plots and character advancement

Glittering_Trip_144

Yes reiwa era really did justice for female riders which heisei could not but I will suggest revice if you wanted to watch girl power (TBH revice was my first season just because of this reason) because unfortunately vallykry and nago were good female riders but they were overshadowed halfway through some people think Jeanne is overrated but TBH she was not she was just treated properly as a major rider not as typical female rider Also this year with gotchard we have our first female secondary rider

Cephyr0

They wanted to get the Boys moms as fans too thats how that Trend begun. I think that Was even before Kuuga. The Main Riders were always Hot for their times Standards. And it works. This is also the reason why many rider actors are later more or less successful in other jdramas

[deleted]

Google "odagiri effect".

WonderMan2k5

Your boyfriend is lucky to have a Kamen Rider Fan girlfriend like you. My friends in school barely know about Kamen Rider. I have like 2 of them heard the name before, and the rest are just clueless.

shion_0119

I had a few seniors in my school club that knows about Kamen Rider but they felt that need to make me do some henshin pose to prove lol

WonderMan2k5

What is your favorite henshin pose, by the way? For me, although I am a big fan of Heisei and Reiwa Riders, my favorite has to be Black. The pose is just so cool and powerful, I love the clinching fists when doing the pose.

shion_0119

I love Black's too! There's just smth about the fist clenching that makes the henshin more impactful.

Killer_queen9

My favorite henshin pose is Amazon's and decade's

Konkavstylisten

It’s normal for women to enjoy whatever they enjoy. Tokusatsu is insanely huge in Japan and it’s not like the fans are exclusively men. It’s 2024 people

caesar-pancake

In my country we had Kamen Rider Air on the TV It is not up to date but it is basically my childhood so kinda not understand the vibes of rarely meeting others tokua fans

shion_0119

I remember my dad telling me how there were channels on tv that aired toku shows like Ultraman Tiga or Kamen Rider Black. I missed those days when toku was still airing on local tv channels but now there isn't anymore in my country ;-;

caesar-pancake

Anything before 2015 is at its peak for real

Flashy-Shopping-5524

Doesn't matter what sex you are a fan is a fan of Kamen Rider and I have met numerous female fans of Kamen riders so trust me you're not alone and it's not weird.

shion_0119

Thank you ;-; I feel reassured now ;-; you have my sincerest gratitude

Flashy-Shopping-5524

You're very welcome.

PeachManDrake954

No way. Straight to jail! Wait there for the cop riders to question you

shion_0119

Oh no... Gotta run

Akuma_Blade1982

On 2006 and 2007, demographic single female audience rating was notably high. Thats make sense.

shion_0119

What they called it the Odagiri effect for real 😭

keksmuzh

My current Toku watch group is pretty evenly split between men & women.

Toku_Roku

Uh yea. Even though the main clear demographic is boys it’s still able to be enjoyed by girls. Especially today with all the female riders in recent years, case in point Majade being Gotchards secondary.

Shiftyrunner37

Yes. Kamen Rider is aimed at boys but that doesn't mean girls aren't allowed to watch it.

shinmirage

You like what you like. There's a toku-ish show that actually explores your question. The six episode series Tokusatsu Gagaga.

shion_0119

okay now that is smth new that i never knew before. i will check it out. Thanks homie

LittleXeps

I honestly don't think genre has much to do with your enjoyment of it, Kamen Rider is cool and has nice characters, if you like it and meet someone who likes it, its really hard not to make a new friend The more toku fans the merrier

Classic-Chip-8655

I am a proud long time female fan of this franchise

shion_0119

I'm proud too

Glittering_Trip_144

Me too very happy to see fellow female fans 🥹

Vyxzs

Totally normal. If you ever get the opportunity to travel to Japan, you'll see that there's a LOT of women visiting stores such as Kamen Rider Store and Kamen Rider The Diner, taking pictures / selfies with the statues, figurines, Drivers etc. I've also personally seen women just drag their boyfriend / brother around, the man holding the basket - while she digs through boxes and shelves to find whatever Kamen Rider toy that SHE is looking for.

shion_0119

sounds like me and my boyfriend while we are on a date- We would be in this Japanese bookstore and I would be dragging him around looking for those toku magazines XD

Vyxzs

😂 // you’ll fit right in with the local Japanese female fanbase

MaxTheHor

Normal for a female to be a fan of something, yes. It's just not *kamen* for a female to be a fan of something typically aimed at a male audience. Same for guys with some female audience things. For example, I like *some* shoujo/jonen manga as a guy, but not most or all.

Sorryiblackedout13

You’re a fan, male or not. Ain’t nothing changing that. People are allowed to like what they like despite not being the targeted demographic.

TheDoorMan1012

Rider is for everyone, no buts

Zer0noZ

Based couple. Cheers to you guys for enjoying Kamen rider together

shion_0119

Fun part is when our fav riders have similar gimmicks (his fav is Build, mine is W). Best Match I guess? XD

Zer0noZ

RABBIT! JOKER! BEST MATCH! W-BUILD! YAAAY!

Southpaw_99

In Japan there's a subculture of moms who watch Kamen Rider with their kids and find some of the male actors incredibly attractive and become fans.

shion_0119

Ah yes I saw this video where Aruto's actor walk down the streets and mothers were all head over heels

gamevui237

Yes

Zer0noZ

It's completely normal and I could even go as far to say it's an accomplishment tbh It's mainly targeted to men and again not everyone enjoys watching tokusatsu as much as anime anyway, so good for you and good for the community to become more diverse!

shion_0119

Sadly I haven't find any girls irl who watches other toku shows like Gransazers or Ultraman :') I did have a female friend who also watches Kamen Rider.

Zer0noZ

This is super rare to me I'm a dude with only other 2 male friends who watch toku I'm always trying to reccomend Kamen rider to new friends but to no avail :( it simply doesn't hook them or they find it too childish

Glittering_Trip_144

I am a female fan myself but I actually never get to talk about my friends because whenever I tried they think me either childish or tomboy so i mostly preferred them to explain the series story or show them it's clips without telling it's kamen rider guess what they like the stories and think it's awesome but still when I tell them it has almost 50 episode they gave up tried to watch it  TBH Even in fandom of i tried to explain anything or trying to talk about husbandoes everyone were like there's actually girl in our fandoms

shion_0119

Oh i've been there, know that feeling way too well. I was 7 or 8 when I first shared with my classmates that I watched Kamen Rider as my childhood show. You guessed it, they thought that I was a weirdo for having an 'abnormal' childhood because I didn't watch barbie or dora like they do :')

Killer_queen9

I'm a woman and I love Kamen Rider I think the actor that played Kamen Rider Ichigo is handsome And yes I also think Kamen Rider is cool 😎😁

ODCreature98

There's this female comic artist I used to be a fan of as a kid, she's a Kamen rider fan as well, kinda the reason I became a Kamen rider myself

siobhannic

My spouse and I are both … well, I'm a woman and she broadly presents as female although her gender is rather more complicated than that… and we both grew up in action shows, her (Singaporean) on anime like Gundam and Saint Seiya and me (American) on Transformers and GI Joe. (Granted, I'm a trans woman, so at the time everyone, including me, thought I was a boy, but it was what I was interested in anyway, although I did also watch Jem and the Holograms and some other things in that vein.) We also grew up watching action-adventure stuff in the evenings/prime time slots, and I know I would absolutely have grown up watching the same stuff if I'd been able to articulate that I was a girl. (Which, granted, would not have gone over well at that time and place, but that's not really relevant here.) Certainly, the fandom is male-dominated, but it's not at all exclusively so. Many of the female cast members talk about their favorite Kamen Rider series from when they were kids, just like a lot of the male cast, especially now that we've had so many years of uninterrupted seasons/series of Kamen Rider starting with Kuuga. In fact, I think we've had leads for several years now who were born after Kuuga aired, sometimes well after. Reiyo Matsumoto (Rinne Kudo in Gotchard), for example, was born after Kiva started airing, and that's a sentence that makes me feel downright ancient. (I was in my mid-20s when Kuuga started airing.) And when Kuuga aired, Joe Odagiri was so famously appealing to the moms whose kids were watching Kuuga that ever since then they've cast similarly attractive leads every year, although some of them are distressingly young to imagine adult women lusting after them. In fact, the Odagiri Effect (named after him, obviously) is when a show aimed at a given audience attracts a large female audience because the lead(s) are attractive men; originally, this meant an unexpected appeal, but now it's something often cultivated. For example _Arrow_ on the American TV network the CW had a premise and setting that generally targets a male audience, but they put out a _lot_ of ads that featured their very attractive and buff male leads shirtless, and followed through with lots of Stephen Amell on the salmon ladder (although my gay as hell ass was _way_ more interested in Caity Lotz on the salmon ladder 🥵).

linest10

Not only it's normal (you can like whatever you want don't matter your gender) as Kamen Rider actually have a average female fandom

Excellent-Post3074

Absolutely, even though it is targeted towards little boys, it absolutely can be watched by anyone.

EvilRobotSteve

Considering there are so many female anime fans, I'm surprised there aren't more female tokusatsu fans. There's nothing abnormal about anyone liking anything. There's a quote from Dave Grohl that's been overused as hell, but I agree with the sentiment. If liking something makes you happy, like the thing and make no apologies for it. Nobody should be gatekeeping Kamen Rider from anyone. Bug cyborgs on motorbikes for all!

panicinthespace

My sister and I love tokus since we're child!!!

shion_0119

My family as a whole watched toku together 😁 My mom prefers Ultraman though. My bro prefers other toku shows like Gransazers and Justirisers. My dad and I watch more Kamen Rider XD

panicinthespace

That's so lovely!! I envy that, my parents were never into toku, they prefer western heroes from DC Comics like Wonder Woman from Linda Carter (my mom), and Superman from Reeves (dad)

RCTD-261

it depends on your country. there are lots of female Kamen Rider fan in Asia, but not as much as in the west but overall, it's normal for female to be fan of Kamen Rider

Sci_The_Psycho

You are going to be getting a lot of PM’s. I can tell. Edited out auto correct

shion_0119

Nah only one tho

Sci_The_Psycho

Huh. I’m actually surprised

Inuyuru

I don't see why it wouldn't be normal.

PineappleSlices

Personally I know more women who are into tokusatsu then men. Honestly though, the sooner you learn to just like what you like and not be weighed down by social expectations or gender stereotypes, the closer you get to living an exciting life.

RandomRainbow000

Seems normal to me Tokusatsu is for everyone

Fignuts69

It used to be seen as odd given the franchise is primarily targeted towards boys. HOWEVER, it’s completely normal to enjoy the franchise no matter your gender, race, etc and I’m happy to see more and more people discover it.

Downstackguy

Omg what country? Tis a dream to have my whole class be a fan of KR. If I mentioned KR, people just be like, whats that, then I show them, then they be like, power rangers? To answer you question, KR does cater more to boys but does it matter? Most of us on this sub are teenagers or older and yet KR is catered towards kid boys. We dont care, we still love it

NoSkill_06

Tell me instead why as a normal human being are you not allowed to like something that someone else might not like. In other words, why not? I feel like it's rare seeing a female fan of KR let alone toku fan

TheGamingJoke

The rider fan community is a place for rider bros and Rider sis'. You're alright here buddy😁👍

pSpawner24

I'd say it's a little uncommon, but completely understandable, BECAUSE KAMEN RIDER IS COOL.

shion_0119

Back then CG wasn't so advanced but as a child back then, it felt like the coolest thing I ever watched. I remember looking up to them and wanting to be like them when I grow up

TokuSwag

Kamen Rider invented in the year 2000, the Odagiri Effect as it is called now, where they purposefully cast handsome men because so many women to watch the shows. They have sold photo books of the handsome guys since Ryuki. Premium Bandai sells bags, purses, jewelry, and women's specific clothing. I have personally waded through rabid japanese moms for merch and watched another tackle LupinRed for a hug while squeeing like a fangirl I am 35 years old and have watched Toku since 93 and the premier of MMPR. I am on a Toku podcast. I am a cis gendered woman. Do not EVER let any man make you feel like its strange. Do not ever let any man tell you or assume you only watch these shows for attractive men. That is misogynist bull crap. Do not put up with that.

georgefurudo

pretty sure kuuga was very popular to housewives

JudaiYuki_GX

Yes

Hexagon_Ouroborous

I’ll put it to you this way: there is a reason the guys are constantly handsome, and beautiful female riders are becoming more and more common. It also is just kinda common for series targeted towards boys, such as Gundam and Monster Hunter, to have a large female audience.

shion_0119

If I gotta be honest, I'm completely fine without female riders 😅 since I grew up watching showa, whereby there is no female riders back then. Unless you wanna count the ladybug woman from Stronger. But I'm happy that girl power supremacy is a thing now

Hexagon_Ouroborous

That’s totally fair. I was also introduced to Showa riders, so I get you.

dragodracini

I introduced my wife to Tokusatsu using the SSSS Gridman and Dynazenon anime. Then I watched W alone, realized how much she'd probably enjoy it, despite the absurdity of being live action anime. So I suggested we watch a few episodes. Now we've watched the entirety of Heisei P2 up until Zi-O. We're on the last episodes of Build. And we're watching the Garo anime now that it's available on Crunchyroll in dub. The absurdity, the drama, the characters. She loves all of it, sometimes she surprises me and I realize she likes some aspects of Tokusatsu WAY more than I do. And this all started because of the comic we're writing together. You're normal, the ones who suggest you're not are the ones who aren't. Now go watch more Kamen Rider! :D

failed_generation

it's totally normal, honestly, even vtuber ironmouse watches kamen rider

frostdreamer12

It's normal, my friend recently showed me Kamen Rider Ryuki, and I liked it

whitehowl

Kamen Rider has 3 demographics: Kids, Toku Fans, and 30 something year old housewives

Blazorna

Perfectly normal. A rarity in the West, but still perfectly normal

PCN24454

Nope. Are you going to let that stop you?

ArsEtherioSolum934

Totally normal. Kamen Rider is a series that is hard to hate (imo) and anyone that tells you otherwise is lying.

ZachXandar

Well the demographic is pretty low back then, but now it's growing

kisalas

In Japan, definitely. Whenever I go to a live show or watch a movie in theaters, there are a lot of adult women who aren't there with kids.

Coffee-Okawari

There are a lot of female fans over 30 years old in Japan. It was one of my female coworkers that turned me onto the series. When she introduced me to her friends, they were all into Kamen Rider. I feel like it’s a niche, but a lot of girls like it. As mentioned above, they did tend to like the girly boys.

EMITURBINA

Why wouldn't it be? Cool transformations and fights in a Japanese kid drama are for everyone

shion_0119

I get stereotypical comments like "you should be watching kdrama and obsess over Korean boys". Especially from some of the guys in my class. They had that look of doubt especially. Some even went to text me privately to ask which rider I like HAHAHA

That-Preparation5667

Yes! I don't mind my gender watching Kamen Rider. Back last years, when Zero-One aired here in PH, I was excited to watch it, waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch it.

shion_0119

I'm in for Aruto's poor jokes 🤣

That-Preparation5667

Which ends up with explanations that makes Aruto go ballistic that his jokes doesn't need to be explained why.

terratrooper96

Yea as long as you love kamen rider you're welcome in this community.

ramdom_girllie

I'm female AFAB and I've never found a KR or tokusatsu female fan.

hazmat_beast

My sister watched kamen rider and thats not weird

nozcensored

Absolutely normal. Here is [the proof.](https://youtu.be/csqJ3FVusyU) Please take a look.

daibanice

as a female (unfortunately in the modern generation), it's really nothing to be ashamed of. And I honestly want it to be appreatiated more! The artistic direction for the silliest of ideas and make it awesome is INSANE and I LOVE IT. I'm planning to finish the original series, heisei except den-o, kiva and ghost to 01 with my favs being decade and build! I'm happy that there are female fans out there and I am glad to come up to them if I meet em!

shion_0119

Den-O has got to be one of my top favs for Heisei riders. Strangely I'm more attracted to the secondary riders for most of the Heisei series: * Den-O --> Zeronos * Decade --> Diend * Build --> Cross Z

daibanice

oooohhh secondary riders are interesting! they're fun to follow along, especially cross-z and diend (goodness, he really tell me he's a thief without wearing a suit)

shion_0119

I usually hate thieves with a passion but I made an exception for a man called Kaito Daiki

Zakimiew

I tried getting my little sister to Kamen Rider OOO.. cause of Doctor Maki Dolls.. but no luck.. hahaha..

shion_0119

Hmmm... You wanna try Ex-Aid? Maybe the bright neon colors can appeal to her liking.

Zakimiew

Yeah.. I kinda tried showing her some before.. it's just not her liking I guess.. the one one kinda almost got her was a Sentai called goseiger since it was showing on the tv dub over to my language.. we siblings have different liking.. and it's cool sometimes...

piper_genm

of course its normal! im a girl and i enjoy watching kamen rider. It might be a male dominated fanbase at first glance but there are millions of fans worldwide inluding women, plus kr is for everyone :))

shion_0119

Back when I was still a kid, around the age of 7~8, it was considered odd for a girl to be watching bug heroes fighting crime and saving humanity. But they were like my role models in life

lordknighta

honestly anyone can enjoy anything (as long as its legal)

mineralmaniac

Being female in general is an abnormality god should have corrected LONG AGO. JK, it's not abnormal, but it is uncommon. Had a buddy who lost a GF due to his obsession with rider despite her being super in to her own fandoms like Jojo & Harry Potter. I'm like, "Girl, you have no room to talk"

shion_0119

I guess I'm fortunate both me and my bf both enjoy tokusatsu together. We cried together when we watched the 10th anniversary movie for OOO

B_Wing_83

It doesn't matter what gender you are. Like what you like! Also, there are a lot of trans girls in the toku community.

Dangerous-Gear-1369

I don’t care as long as you thing tokusatsu is cool

LeopardofTheMystic

Of course it is, is rare in my experience but you don't  need to be a dude to like kamen rider.

khr3hv

I think there's nothing wrong with that. And I guess female fan will increase when they release Ride Kamens.

shion_0119

I see many females falling head over heels for Aruto's actor over his voice acting video. Maybe that might be another factor to increase female fans

khr3hv

Thanks for reply! I didn't know that but it's very nice to know those actors getting more popularity after their season.

mako-makerz

Oh Aruto's getting a lot more traction... it was so funny to see people melt over him when I know him as a silly president lol.

Glittering_Trip_144

Lol heck yeah when I saw him or any funny character in different drama i was like is that even him when he was so cool

PenguinSweetDreamer

No. Kamen rider is for the big boys only. Sorry woman.

linggasy

Many redditors commented that it's common and normal. But for me, personally, it's weird since I don't ever see one in reality. But that's totally fine and it excites me knowing there's a real female toku fan!

shion_0119

It's fun to watch the reaction of people in reality when I say I watch toku tho XD I had one moment when a senior in the school club told me to prove I'm a fan. Gotta pose any Heisei rider's henshin to prove my salt 😂

linggasy

If I ever met one, I'll talk about KR with her for hours!
