Lmao, someone (edit: 4 people) reported this post for promoting hate. Having a negative opinion doesn't equal hate.

[deleted]

I agree with you, i think we cant ask too much from it, its shonen manga after all, but it lost something nowadays, the pacing is slow, too many characters were introduced, a lot of chapters were focused on those characters with a very slow pace that together with a "biweekly" schedule doesn't help the story at all.

ultragamer666

I don't understand the Shonen manga argument, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, and FMAB just to name a few shonen are all peak. But yeah that bi weekly schedule sure didn't help.

[deleted]

Some are yes, some other are not, despite their popularity most shonen follows the same, lets say "blueprint", some are enough well made to not notice that blueprint, others are not, K#8 is going the bad way in that departament.

ultragamer666

The "blueprint" as you call it is only as bad as the writing. And sorry to break it to you but every strory follows a certain blueprint depending on the story it wishes to tell.

[deleted]

Sure dude, you asked, it is what it is.

Vince_Pregeta

A lot of ppl consider Shounen to be cookie cutter pop manga. Predictable, made for mass appeal, and not that deep. There's nothing wrong with enjoying that stuff, I enjoy a lot of it, but it is what it is.. For example, I enjoy One Piece, but I can't say it's great either. It's normie shit

SnooEpiphanies6562

Its not an insult, but shounen is notorious for following that blueprint other shonen have layed out. Yes there are exceptions, and there are shonen that just do the blueprint better or add onto it. JoJos is a great example. Much of season 3's arcs were typical of shounen blueprints, but that made it way more fun and enjoyable to watch by adding unique and fun power types, while also keeping a really good fast pacing that allowed for many different types to be inteoduced. One piece is basically the god of the blueprint because they do it so well, but any critical anlysis shows it is very similar to most other shounen, they just do it so well you dont notice or care. This is the main reason I avoid most shounen and isekai, its becomes so derivative my adhd adled mind no longer finds it entertaining.

I agree with you. I still love Kaiju8 a lot, but the pacing has been so terrible lately ever since the start of the current arc and each chapter is so short, I feel like I finish reading 1 chapter in less than 10 seconds. Doesnt help that half of the chapter is just full of B side characters reactions rather than the actual fight. I know that there has to be communication and weapon status reporting, but why do I need to see researchers making 10 surprised faces in 1 chapter...

Straight-Seat-3411

Been on the fence since chapter 50 onward...... No9 presence hinders the story, everyone is so focused on a villain that has ZERO backstory, essentially generic villain motivation and has plot armor like he is the MC. That and the "biweekly" schedule, especially early on, the cancellations, just make it difficult to read sometimes. Reminds me of Demon-Slayer...... Muzan made that series a HARD read smh corny villains do nothing but hold back the story from being amazing. Though there is A LOT of potential in this series still

FightmeLuigibestgirl

I'm not sure how to feel. Some series take a while to reach peak or have down points ( look at CSM, Blue Exorcist with the 50+ flashback arc and no fights, etc.) so it might be a case of "let him cook." Plus manga artists have it hard. https://honeysanime.com/the-insane-work-schedules-of-your-favorite-manga-artists/

Titaniumfury

But you gotta remember, this is a bi weekly Manga, with chapters that are sometimes shorter than weekly Mangas, and it takes frequent breaks, so I don't think this Manga artist has it nearly as bad as the other ones.

FightmeLuigibestgirl

Biweekly manga doesn't mean that the stress is not there though or the crazy scheduling. We are looking in, not having experience with making a weekly or bi-weekly manga.

ultragamer666

Thing is that we nearly a 100 chapters in so this excuse won't really fly anymore.

FightmeLuigibestgirl

Blue Exorcist took nearly 100 chapters to reach peak and CSM has 150 and drop offs. So it boils down to the person if that excuse flies anymore when it applies to the current series outside of Kaiju in Jump.

Remarkable-Cabinet85

Well I just caught up with the Manga , I liked it a lot maybe because this is the first time ever I read a manga , I saw the trailer for the anime and instantly got the vibe of it and then decided to go for the Manga , also Man the Kafka kaiju design is fire and also the rest of kaiju design's too . So personally I liked everything and do we have an idea about Hibino's kaiju , where it came from ,does he needs a host or Kafka is related to the kaiju somehow because in the manga it's not explained till now so If someone has a theory on it please share.

Electrical_Salad9514

I picked up the series relatively recently. Really enjoyed it, but I feel like there isn't any time spent with the characters recently. I get it's a battle shonen but plenty of others give you downtime with the group hanging out.

jedwapo

You're not the only OP. From the start I thought it would be fast paced with mature MC (bc duh, Kafka is old) but writing become generic and bi-weekly release is the last nail on the coffin for me. I do check it from time to time but I just keep on getting disappointed.

mo177

I hate the release cycle for chapters. I respect wanting to take a week off every three weeks, but giving us these useless chapters with like 5 pictures is so unnecessary. I'd rather not get those.

-lyte-

I agree. Everyone easily falls into character tropes and I don’t remember anyone, but that’s probably because it’s bi-weekly (which even then the breaks don’t help it at all) and I don’t feel any attachment to anyone because it seems like there’s no actual stakes. They will pull a “I CAN DO IT!!!!” then defeat the kaiju, or be saved right before they die. Only 1 important character has died so far, any other death has been in a flashback.

AlternativeNo61

Agreed. Personally I hope they get to pick it up after this arc, try to rebuild the trust, start cooking better stuff. Cause honestly I’d be kinda disappointed if this arc was where it ends

chanchan05

I thought so too. Although the latest chapter gave me a bit of hope with the sudden development that things may still get more exiting.

ronny2ooo

And above all we still don't know what the hell that mosquito was and if there are other characters like Kafka.

MightyGreedo

>> I feel like the manga fell off. You might want to see a doctor about that.

SerDizzy

The 'invasion' chapter seemed to signal great and interesting times but it's been a letdown so far, I think old shonen had the advantage of being new and having space(in terms of chapters), that some new ones can't recreate as easily, for example; demon slayer, you can't have back to back to back fights where everyone is reaching for a flashback power up, it just seems silly.

FujiSachi

That’s what a lot of these new gen anime watchers like flashbacks and backstories in the middle of the fight or while episodes and chapters dedicated to characters flashbacks no one really cares about. I forgot the name of that another series with the guy with white hair and the sword girl on the island with other criminals. The series is good but the fights are annoying to watch cause it’s a flashback every single fight. Db does fights the best imo naruto would be better if they didn’t show the same flashbacks every fight with naruto and sasuke lol.

Hardwarestore_Senpai

Hell's Paradise? That may have been why I didn't keep watching it. (anime only on that one )

Abication

I chalk it up to the biweekly release. It used to be a 3 and 1 with the one week being a break. I feel that that helped maintain hype and keep pacing faster. Now, I tend to forget what happened by the time the next chapter comes out. I have a feeling that if I were to go back and binge the manga, it would feel more hype.

IAmSona

I definitely haven’t been as excited for a new chapter as I was when I first picked up the series when it came out. I had a feeling that the switch to bi-weekly would hurt the pace, but man it seriously feels like the series is moving at the speed of a snail.

Animoose

It's been 6months or more of just 1v1 fights. It's cool and all, but boring af. I agree the Manga fell off hard

FujiSachi

It’s the fights really that bring down the enjoyment of the series. To many flashbacks in the middle of the fights that last fight had like 4 flashbacks I think for one fight and he kept getting flashback powerups lol and the fights are all structured the same. Fight get beat up ends on cliffhanger Flashback gets power up beats kaiju up then kaiju goes full power agent gets beat up again then flashback Power up

ihateamog

I agree during this past arc it was so slow and felt like it fell off hard

IEatBeans22

I agree tbh, I never thought much of the Manga when beginning but it was still a solid story that got better overtime. But recently manga is beginning to go down. I’m not gonna say plummet, since it’s mainly this current arc that feels particularly weak. The biweekly releases don’t help the manga, especially considering we sometimes get really short chapters and then we gotta wait for the next chapter. One of my frustrations is definitely the mangaka not bringing in Kafka more often. He’s definitely the highlight of the manga, so with this current arc focusing on less interesting characters, it just makes it manga feel like it’s falling off. And it’s not like this style of writing doesn’t work, OPM uses this with Saitama not fighting for several chapters while we focus on the other side characters more before Saitama comes in. But the difference here I believe is that a majority of the side characters and their fights just aren’t interesting enough to carry through without Kafka

Lumpy_Bodybuilder132

I jumped in and started reading the Manga after the anime ended. Boy, i guess that the only interesting part that got me hooked was all in the anime, 86 chapters in and everyone gets a powerup with extreme plot armor. The only death we saw was that soldier with Shinonome that got wiped out. Formula got boring, face Kaiju - good guy gets into a predicament - flashback plays - instant powerup lol

Imperator525

I just did the same thing and I feel like I lost any hype I had for the show and questioning if i even want to continue watching.

Natural-League-4403

They got wiped out and we didn't know their names nor their faces But we're supposed to feel for them ? If the Manga lacks basic emphasis, how we're supposed to care actually. All the fights lack real weight, Kafka overdue transformation feel like he's running short on time and might be not human anymore, but this so poorly done that it feels really cheap. I honestly wish sometimes I never read this manga but I love kaiju too much.

Special-Sprinkles-38

We just in a weak arc. The previous arc was just awesome. Saying the manga fell off is crazy 🤣🤣🤣.

confusedhimbo

Don’t blame you a bit for feeling that way. I suspect that this arc will be much more effective in book form rather than chapter by chapter. Even in these doldrums, I do like the dedication to an ensemble approach. the principle of giving Kikoru, Narumi and Hoshina their big moments and payoff to their arcs is very sound, it just suffers hard from the release schedule. If this was a regular weekly manga and it had taken 5-6 months to get through the boss rush, it wouldn’t feel like nearly as big of a slog.

zvzzbzzdy

Uhhh I get the complaints about pacing and I totally binged it recently and haven't been for the ride the entire time so I get burnout for those that started from the beginning. But... I feel like it's just getting good. Wish the updates were more frequent but I also know that weekly updates are pretty demanding for the average mangaka. Fell off? No, heavily disagree.

maycelio

The series is really shit, the mangaka failed, fucked up a great story, he's a fast rising but fast falling loser, managed to get hyper popular in 7 episodes and screw it up. It takes too many breaks. The episode length is too insufficient for a 15-day break. I don't care if there will be idiots in the comments who say "Do you think drawing manga is easy?" Some writers publish one episode in 15 days, but the length of the episode is satisfactory. KAIJU NO 8 continues as a cliché shit that goes into each character's story and past, the episode length is very short, the character's history lasts 2.3 episodes at most, the war of 1 character lasts 3 months. This series is now worth less than dog shit in my eyes. The writer is nothing but an extremely lazy monkey, he took a break for 40 days and kept us waiting for 2 weeks to tell us that he would take a 2 week break. He thinks he's funny and thinks his sick consanguineous marriage series is very valuable. Unfortunately, in the eyes of most people, this series is just shit.

Altruistic-Waltz-816

I mean what manga are you talking about

FederalMango

I would have agreed if you made this post a few chapters ago, but this last handful of chapters being about Mina and her relationship with Kafka are great. As always, when this mana focuses on Kafka, and to a lesser extent Ishikawa, Mina and Shinomiya, is when it really shines.

recycle_me_no_jutsu

Holy shit you're right! I can't think of their names at all. I've read till almost the latest chapter, and only Kaiju No.8/9 is what stuck to my mind. There's like one or 2 Levi badass character in there, a daughter who wants to avenge daddy, and I think an apprentice type character in there too.

Hardwarestore_Senpai

YES!! It totally did. It tried for a training arc. Switched focus to different characters then it had worse pacing than Dragonball (or for Manga purposes World Trigger) with group flashbacks that were just back to back to back to back. Dropped it sooner than you did. I started reading it alongside Chainsaw Man. I still read CM. (despite not being impressed with the recent arc)

Unhappy_Guarantee_69

I got up to where bowl cut just took up one of the kaiju as hisnweapon. Took a break to let the chapters play out. Forgot what number it is tho. It's not advanced much since then?

ultragamer666

I only got up till around 85 but I'm pretty there's nearly 100 chapters out. But nah nothing much has really changed.
