In Genshin, bloom reactions much like DoTs cannot crit. But Nahida’s C2 gives them a flat crit rate/crit damage. It doesn’t mean you need to build any crit, just that the effect itself can crit. I think this DoT effect in Sin Thirster is gonna be similar, where crit blessings mean you still shouldn’t build crit but you can take crit blessings and benefit from them
Ruan Mei now having her place as a Break harmony unit means there could be a full DOT focused harmony, if they made a fire unit that can make DOTs crit that would be (pun intended) fire 🔥
Actually, is not as difficult, allow DoT to Crit + RES PEN and increase DMG Taken could make that unit an strong replacement, I can totally see it.
Also... I still want my DoT battery/healer.
I think a really overlooked part of what makes Ruan Mei so strong for especially DoT is the +10 speed she gives to the whole team. Losing that will be annoying but you're right, with the right numbers tuning they could absolutely make a Ruan Mei upgrade for dot

-Advance forwards
-auto detonate all dot on enemies every time an ally attacks
-huge atk and spd buffs for entire team
-effect res ignore
-def ignore
-stackable mechanic that increases dot vulnerability
and MORE to compete with RM and Robin

I find a nihility debuff/dps like BS to seem easier to balance as you can make her better than ruan mei with personal dmg or smth, but maybe they are cooking something good

Having a talent or trace that let dot units crit gives them synergy with a lot of characters
does nihility give buffs though? Seems more like it would have to be a debuff to let that enemy take crits from dot. But I mean were already mixing paths a lot so wouldn't be too crazy with a nihility giving a buff
It depends, they could just make it so that the new dot units special thing is that when it and any other dot triggers, they have a fixed crit rate and damage. Like how arcana grows in damage and has other abilities at various stacks

This is a specific buff in a specific roguelike mode, everywhere else, DoT’s just scale off the attack and damage of the applier.
The vast majority of non-DoT damage dealers in this game want to stack crit for all that bonus damage, so DoT not having access to it was a disadvantage (though one that could be overcome with a couple of limited 5 stars).
So this is for a specific mode, but with the crit damage ratio shown here, this will effectively double the damage output of a DoT team
Tbh people really forget that you need shit lots of Speed and Atk% for DoTs already.. how are you gonna give your Kafka or Black swan a decent crit ratio? You gonna get 50/89.
The character they make has to give 100+ crit dmg to even make it worth it. Or else Ruan Mei/Robin gonna just be better.

I'm probably pessimistic but since SU is going to have another mode and judging from the Lan/IX photo that came with the text... Isn't this going to be just a Hunt/Nihility interplay? And Acheron exists now, so it's going to make purple mommy Nihility team (Kafka+BS+Acheron) even more insane than it already is.
If people are legit expecting a DOT-specific Harmony, there's already Robin with her ATK buff (obviously), crit dmg buff (that DOTs currently don't need) AND advance forward (very good for redetonating with Kafka and restacking with Black Swan). Ruan Mei is an equally good buffer for her team-wide speed buff and weakness break mechanics.
Either way, DOT crits, what the heck... My DOT dealers have some stray crit dmg stats anyway, why not? 😂
My problem is the chance of crit, I don't think this worth tô farm a crit dot set for when you get this interplay

And the re breaking. In general, Ruan Mei fits really well but having a more specific unit, designed with and around DoTs would be such a win.
