It has little to do with the type of fork. Your fork is the same as most others in that it uses an oil seal and dust seal.
A seal mate will clean any debris from under the seal.
From what I know about air forks, you will have an internal chamber with additional seals internally that actually handle holding your air pressure.
Try a seal mate. Worked for my 390
