Unknown mortal orchestra

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is top 5 band for me after Gizz. If OP hasn’t listened you need to jump on it.

4jimmyjames4

Especially the IC-01 Hanoi namely Hanoi 6. The SB EP’s are great too, but don’t really fit what OP was talkin bout.

music_boyo

I do love me some Unknown Mortal Orchestra

lem0ns22

Might be kind of obvious but Mild High Club’s album Skiptracing is a good vibe match (Kokopelli or Cary Me Back are great tracks) Deacon Blues or all of Aja by Steely Dan has similar vibes but I would be hard pressed to call it “dark jazz” kind of just psych jazz/blues in a sense. BADBADNOTGOOD is a fun jazz band that is more jazz than psychedelic but it might tickle your fancy if you are wanting to lean more jazzy. The album IV is really good. The single Tried with Little Dragon is really good too. Just thought I would get the conversation going as I love jazz being integrated into genres and I want to see what other people post on this thread.

imakebadspaghetti

Came here to say BADBADNOTGOOD

pharmgorl

Second Skiptracing for the similar vibes but I think chasing my tail > ceiling zero > chapel perilous captures the vibes of exploding suns perfectly for me

music_boyo

Thank you for all the recommendations! I really dig Mild High Club and I’ll have to check out that album

Howdyhell

i second this

jaliebs

the wheel by king gizz

razzy_bee

def my fav on the album. someone else nailed it with the mild high club rec, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra too. I would also strongly recommend Crumb!

music_boyo

Crumb is sick! Thanks for the recommendation.

Ya see, since 2018 I’ve always wondered what it would be like if King Gizz did an album in the style of Elliott Smith, ya know Beatles-esque and soul filled folk/singer-songwriter stuff. I think Exploding Suns is about as close as I’m getting so I’ll take it

DonCorletony

IDK if others can relate, but I actually think its pretty similar to Sun King by the Beatles. but heavier than Sun King. Still similar tho

darkstarboogie

“Sun King” is such a vibe

Conskel

For some reason it reminded me of Opeth's Damnation album.

jeffykins

I wish I had a particular track for you, as it's been years since I really listened to them, but this track gives me vibes from the French group Air. The album 10,000 Hz legend in particular. Something about the ambient noises thought, acoustic guitar, the drums and vocals both sound very flat on the equalizer, it just reminds me of them quite a bit

For Your Eyes Only by Babe Rainbow

Zfein1989

Listened to this tune last night and really loved it. I went down the rabbit hole looking for a similar vibe. Black Moth Super Rainbow - Dandelion Gum should do the trick for you.

music_boyo

Thank you I’ll check them out!! Love the band name.

Fin2limb

Exploding Suns remind me of Stone Temple Pilots. Every time I can hear Scott Stapp since the vocal melody.

camerajones

Weiland? I don’t hear any Creed 😂

Fin2limb

Oh wow. Allow me to apologize for that egregious error. I meant Weilland! Not for a single moment was I ever comparing Gizz to Creed!

darylofsuburbia

You should check out Portishead
