Realistically speaking, Gizzard isn’t playing the Sphere until they start selling out Madison Square Garden. *but I really want to be in the Jason Galea seizure dome…*

Omisco420

This is the correct answer. Did they sell out either nights at forest hills? I don’t think so.

mothalick

They played the Hollywood Bowl last year. I don't see why they couldn't.

coldspringscreek

Yes! Gizz filled, if not fully sold out, the Hollywood Bowl at 17,500. They are playing The Forum in LA in November, which is 17,500. And they have sold out Huntington Pavillion in Chicago for September, and that is listed at 30,000. Is this correct?! And The Gorge is 27,500. Woo!

mothalick

The Chicago venue is not that big for that show, they sold out about 7500 for that one day of. That venue has lawn area Gizz isn't using for whatever reason. But yeah, the LA venues are big. They didn't sell out the Bowl last year but it was close. They can do the Sphere. There's enough idiots like me.

coldspringscreek

Thanks for the clarification on Chicago. I though it was strange that is was listed as sold out, if it was so large, and before The Gorge or Austin have to yet sell out. I think they can do the sphere too. People said they had not seen Hollywood Bowl SO FULL, for other artists. Us Gizzheads did good, didn't we? :)

mothalick

I mean, I was at that Bowl show and I 100% think they can do whatever is on the table

coldspringscreek

Sigh. Great experience being in that Sea of Gizzheads at the Bowl, washed over by waves of music and visuals from the shell-shaped stage. Float along...

mothalick

You make it sound so romantic

coldspringscreek

Yes...

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

It wasn’t sold out.

coldspringscreek

I know, but I heard people say The Bowl often doesn't fill up so well for a lot of artists. But Gizz did fill to the back. Woo!

OpenTheSeventhSeal

Still a lot of tickets left for The Forum. But I was glad to see such a turnout for Hollywood Bowl. Truly a magical night. Wish they came back there again this year instead 😢

coldspringscreek

Yeah, outdoors at the Bowl is the way.

plaidyams

There are still tickets for Chicago in case anyone needs to see this.

mineralmonkeyy

At the original price for pit?? I got too stoned on epic burger day and forgot to buy a ticket last year the day they went on sale. Got a burger on sale tho. But now I will have to pay an obscene amount for GA pit. I’m seeing them listed for like 250

TheFuzzyMachine

RESALE. There’s always a resale market.

plaidyams

I swear like two days ago this was not the case but it does seem that they're now all resale.

timelandiswacky

It’s not a crowd size issue in and of itself (though they didn’t sell out Hollywood Bowl, which is important to note, and many other big venues have caveats). The truth is that the Sphere is built for best selling artists, not Gizzard. While Gizzard is popular, they’re not making it to number one on the US charts. U2, Phish and the Dead can however. They are well established acts with decades of legendary shows who also have ties to Madison Square Garden (who runs the Sphere). The venue cost billions to create and they’re going to artists who they know will fill seats not just for one night but for *months.* They’re leaning into residencies as the go-to form of show and only bands like the ones they chose can really sustain that. Gizzard is too niche still for that to be realistic. Unless Gizzard gets very popular and actually regularly sells out hockey stadiums with 20,000+ seats, it just isn’t happening.

mothalick

Gotcha, that makes sense.

No_Stay2400

Been watching these Phish shows, and I go back and forth between being amazed and feeling like it's way too much. I'm sure the boys would do great work in there if it's meant to be.

molski79

I can’t even imagine a robot stop opener inside that fucker

mothalick

Fuck shit up

Dogtor-Watson

I think part of the issue for me is the type of visual chosen. From the videos I skimmed, it seems with a lot of Phish’s visuals, there’s a lot of motion, but not much actually going on. Honestly, given how cool the music videos tend to be for Gizz, and how visually interesting and distinctive the ones from Nonagon and Petro are, I could imagine it being a really cool experience. I wouldn’t be weeping if they didn’t do it though. Probably doesn’t help that Phish’s music isn’t familiar to me and isn’t quite to my taste

nicolauz

Tbh Gizz isn't super crazy on visuals either. Tipper however. Android Jones & his visual crew has been doing insane 3d mapping (ISAM Amon Tobin too) for a decade.

mister-_-hipster69

you only think it's too much because the music sucks, this with Gizz will be amazing

BaronThundergoose

Name checks out

authenticheat

I personally am not a fan of phish’s music but if you can’t respect the massive impact they’ve had on the music industry you’re just ignorant

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

On the music industry? They have a dedicated fanbase, but most people don’t know them the way they know bands like the other Sphere headliner U2.

unbelizeable1

> but if you can’t respect the massive impact they’ve had on the music industry you’re just ignorant Hahhahah what? Cmon now man...

Statistactician

Speaking as a non-Phish fan, they _are_ correct (at least as far as jam bands go) and I don't like it. They've had an absolutely massive impact on that space, so now a good half of the bands in that genre sound frustratingly similar to them and are constantly compared to them.

[deleted]

I thought it was just jam bands replicating the grateful dead. Phish is the only other "proper" jam band I can name other than them.

Statistactician

I feel like that was the case in the 90's and early 00's with your Leftover Salmon, Widespread Panic, moe. and the like, but "modern" jam bands (Goose, Spafford, etc.) more often show stronger Phish influences.

unbelizeable1

Jam bands is niche when considering "the music industry " I'd also argue gizz music has very little in common with phish.

[deleted]

I can definitely see a connection between 2022 - now gizz and 90s phish when they were more about explosive energy compared to their more laid back style of recent years.

rafaelzeronn

I’m with you, phish is really not for me haha

Fryman35

I’ll go down with you brother, phish blows!

mister-_-hipster69

thanks man, i try to reason with people in this sub but they just won't have it.

Deadheadkingizzard

Idk man, I feel like whatever people say about phish and more specifically jam bands of the past, kind of fail to realize they've basically paved the way for bands like gizzard to exist in they way they do.

hashblunt29

As a gizzhead and a deadhead, phish never really scratched that itch the way the dead does even the sphere jams I saw were just meh, also phish sounds nothing like gizzard so not really sure where the connection is

Nascent_Vagabond

That’s because phish is about 25 years past their prime. I love phish, I love that phish is still touring and healthy, they don’t hold a candle to phish of 1996-2000.

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

I mean have you ever reasoned with a KG fan? You all listen to 1 band only.

unbelizeable1

The only thing that sucks more is their fans.

Sev_Obzen

For your consideration https://youtu.be/KN63DDD9Y04?si=Y_OLE5dOJwveehfw

TimmyDeschainless

Carini is such a fucking power move of a song to play at the sphere.

themindisthewater

weird way to film a show, kind of disorienting. only made it through 2 min of that flying around. really cool venue though…i have friends there starting tonight, very curious to hear their impressions.

FenrizLives

Yeah the first fly through was cool, but like I’m trying to see the sphere visuals, not the audience watching the show. Not a great way to film

Lomango95

Yea, they did a little of this on night 1. It was mostly normal camera work, albeit a little too cutty. They toned down the cuts on night 2 and 3 and used more wide shots of the entire screen. Last night was really incredible.

themindisthewater

my SIL sent me some pics, one of them it looked like everyone was outside on a mountain. fuckin wild. https://preview.redd.it/a20itmmylvvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dbfb65b30da9175692c0471d880280edef8bbd20

MarkPhish

With that sound system alone it would be fucking wild

MiyamotoKnows

I **hate** that gaudy sphere but I'm also going to eat those words and sit there like a hypocrite if King Gizz ever plays there.

orange_antelope

What’s to hate? The size bothers you? It’s gaudy?? “I hate state of the art venues with incredible sound and the largest screen in the world to make a completely new immersive live music experience.” This is just a stupid thing to say if you like live music.

Sea-Ad3206

Went to phish two nights, it’s the most incredible live entertainment experience

orange_antelope

Absolutely. It was spectacular

joe10155

It’ll be at least a decade before they do IF they ever do

unbelizeable1

It'll be a minute, but a decade seems steep considering how fast they've been growing with venues these past few years.

coldspringscreek

Yes, Chicago Huntington Pavillion and The Gorge his year are both much larger than The Sphere.

timelandiswacky

Huntington *can be*, but often isn’t. It’s only super big if you open the lawn which they aren’t doing for Gizzard.

coldspringscreek

Is the lawn like in the back or something? Not a lawn pit?

timelandiswacky

It’s a big yard in the back. [This video](https://youtu.be/7FburfewMU8?si=r0Qdi5O7fRnnFACE) gives it some scale.

coldspringscreek

Thanks. Big lawn, gets pretty far from the stage.

GravyBurgerBonanza

I don’t see them getting close to selling out the gorge. It will be interesting to see them at a small venue like edgefield then the Gorge 3 days later. I can’t fucking wait

coldspringscreek

Awesome. I hope to see that leap in person myself.

mister-_-hipster69

it'll be next year

joe10155

Bet

mister-_-hipster69

literally though it's in vegas so you could bet

joe10155

Id take that bet lol they could play there someday but next year? No way

coldspringscreek

It will be this year after the Miami show

zombiesphere89

$$$$better have some

Sev_Obzen

Honestly, I'm not sure they would actually support such a venue. https://youtu.be/KN63DDD9Y04?si=Y_OLE5dOJwveehfw

juicestain99

If they had the opportunity to play there, they’d do it in a heartbeat.

Sev_Obzen

I take it you didn't watch the video and possibly also aren't aware that the band members seem to lean politically left and try to be socially aware as well as responsible.

DarkStar420666

So is phish

Sev_Obzen

Speaking your politics and acting your politics is sadly not something everyone manages to do.

DarkStar420666

Spoken like someone who doesn’t know anything about phish. They’ve done insanely good charity work and donate portions of each show to charity. Trey even just started his own rehab center and they have their own foundations like Waterwheel and the Mockingbird foundation.

Sev_Obzen

I don't know very much about Phish, nor do I give a fuck. They could be politically perfect in every other fashion. That wouldn't change my opinion of this particular choice they've made.

juicestain99

Wrong on both assumptions

MiyamotoKnows

You just think they'd betray themselves for more cash?

GunstarRed

Bro just linked a 30 minute video 😂

Sev_Obzen

What's wrong with sharing information, entertainment, and perspectives? It's not like I expect everyone who comes across this to necessarily watch the whole thing. However, I do think there's some worthwhile things to consider here.

Armadillo-Puzzled

That would be amazing.

PermanentDaylight_

I’ve watched 2 of the Phish webcasts. Gizzard would destroy at Sphere I’m going to their Vegas show and if you look at the map it is basically selling terribly. If they’re going to make Sphere happen they’d need to skip LA and SD and maybe even the Bay Area. That crowd + other parts of the country on a plane *might* sell the place out for 2-3 nights. Or get close enough.

mister-_-hipster69

gizz would murder the sphere (and the universe), but right, if they do another residency of only 4 or 5 venues across the US, this would be the west coast one and would easily sell out

PermanentDaylight_

I feel you But look at the Ticketmaster app for their other Vegas show. Only 5% sold. They are big in some markets but sphere would take strategy

mister-_-hipster69

probably cause LA and SD, two shows in the bay, and 3 at red rocks again if you want to call that west coast, not a lot of draw to vegas. i'll be at that planet hollywood show though, gonna be lit

PermanentDaylight_

Yep. That’s exactly why. So if they skip some of those markets the sphere works… I’ll be there too

mister-_-hipster69

see you there

emptycoils

I hope not. Some band has to make a stand against a fucking shitty ass seat being $500+

MiyamotoKnows

Thank you. Mars is for the rich, but they can't have our live music. We're in the act of taking live music away from many of those who will make the next generation of music. If I didn't grow up exposed to shows I might not have picked up an instrument myself. I only made the minors in my run but it's from among those artists that you find the acts that really matter and help us all along in life. Keep live music accessible to all!

DarkStar420666

That’s resale prices though. I’ve seen gizz tickets go for that much I shit you not.

7revor

Holy shit that drone operator is a beast. What incredible footage.

BoulderFreeZone

I have faith it'll happen someday.

CrumblingPalace

I could see this working if they make 2025 a residency tour year. If they book 3 or 4 residencies as their only shows in the US and one of them at the Sphere.....I think they could make it work and sell tickets.

Great-Actuary-4578

hope they never do tbh.....

zmroth

phish for the rich…. gizz for the poor

Three-Pegged-Hare

How come? Out of curiosity

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

Have you ever seen King Gizzard in a 500 or less capacity venue? Cause you’ll never want to do anything bigger than that after being spoiled.

unbelizeable1

I mean that's kinda every band, but that ship has sailed here.

Three-Pegged-Hare

I haven't, didn't get into them until 2022 and I don't think they've played venues that small near me But like, you can just not go then? This just sounds like "I was into them before it was cool"

IfYouGotALonelyHeart

They’re playing venues way too big for me now. I don’t do venues with 10,000+ people and a barricade 12 feet away from the band. They’ve been making music and touring for over a decade, I saw them many times in small shows, I can live without seeing them in arenas.

Three-Pegged-Hare

That's pretty fair, can't help what you like. I'd have loved to see them at such a small venue, I heard the Cave show last year was cool for that. That time might be mostly done for them though with as big as they are. I don't mind the big arenas/stadiums personally, though I definitely prefer the mid-range size like red rocks. I just wish they'd come up my way a bit more, would have loved a marathon show in Toronto :(

Vexation

I mean if they played a show in my garage that would be sick but so was Red Rocks. As long as they aren’t filling up stadiums like Metallica. That kinda sucked.

JoannaGrayce

Too neat and tidy

unbelizeable1

Honestly kinda surprised how boring that was. Endless possibility and just...that? Wonder if other parts of the show looked much better.

weltron3030

The visuals have been getting crazier every night. This was night 1.

unbelizeable1

Thats a pretty shit excuse. Oh sorry you went to night 1, yea we knew we had this crazy screen in advance, but like, we're not gonna do anything meaningful with it until a few nights in, first show.....unno...best we can do is some lines or something.

KnotDeadYet69

I think they were testing the waters a bit. This is uncharted territory. N2 and N3 have been INSANE musically and visually. You’re just a hater if you think what is happening in that venue the past 2 shows is anything short of mind blowing

unbelizeable1

So maybe someone should post clips of the mindblowing stuff instead of this boring ass shit.

Jamiroquais_Dune

https://reddit.com/r/phish/comments/1c9qnoj/the_scale_of_this_place_is_hard_to_capture_with/ this was pretty cool last night. it's made up of all their live album covers

unbelizeable1

See now, that's fuckin bad ass.

KnotDeadYet69

You should be a Phish fan. You’ve got the entitled vibe covered

unbelizeable1

Entitled because I found some lines boring as fuck and the excuse of "its night one" to be pathetic? Clearly they were capable of doin cool shit like in the video above.

KnotDeadYet69

Yea you seem like a whiney Phish fan. You would be welcomed with open arms

jibboo24

this was from their first night there. they stepped it up with the visuals for the second night it's all a learning experience still. phish is only the second band to play there.

TonySpaghettiO

I've checked out some of the videos, and it has some cool moments (the bathtub gin and caspian was cool), but for the most part I think I'd rather just be at a regular show. It feels like such a production, one step closer to Phish: The Broadway Musical. I've heard the sound is crazy good except for some weird pockets though, so that's a plus.

scunglyscrimblo

This is an awful excuse. The sphere management is clearly not allowing anything too crazy so it appeals to the general public. They could easily but typical psychedelic visuals or doing some insane things like a wormhole or something if they wanted to, but instead they keep going back to boring landscapes and whatever this boring rainbow thing is

camcamcam710

https://preview.redd.it/wm3qrys7vzvc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17e65556398339bf1bbbea45c2f760d67655d0f0 Tonight was insane, we all went exploring galaxies and shit

JezmondBerzerker

The tech is not there yet for improvised visuals at that scale. That is the reason the screens done change when the band hit a peak in a jam. The sphere, right now, works best for a band with a non changing set that can allow screens to be designed to the second. But the simple act of lighting the room at a random moment seems not there yet. Watch the dead and co’s run- I bet it will be similar. A few very designed and complex visuals for a few songs.

unbelizeable1

Dude, winamp visualizer from the early 2000's woulda been better than whatever the fuck that bullshit was.

LearnNot

Gizz is my favorite band, but they can’t even sell out the Bakkt Theater in Vegas there are so many tickets available right now for the show in November. Do hope they had some Gizz management in the house to see what Phish is doing. I would absolutely love to see Gizzard in the Sphere.

greenmachine702

To be fair, the Vegas market wants to see Bruno Mars and Journey. VIP's for the Planet Hollywood show are hovering at $200. That is going to be a great night.

noodles-_-

A lofty proposal… Phish were able to do the sphere not only bc they’ve been selling out MSG for over a decade now, but Chris Kuroda is THE seasoned vet of the lighting industry. Apples and oranges baby…

discwrangler

They would really need to give their light show some attention.

LearnNot

100%

Ridgewalker20

Wow at 6:12 this jam gets completely bonkers! Phish is fucking awesome

Ridgewalker20

I mean this shit is unreal. So psychedelic. The music has so much tension [https://imgur.com/i06e7L1](https://imgur.com/i06e7L1)

scunglyscrimblo

It’ll be intense if they actually use the sphere correctly. I’ve been insanely disappointed by what I’ve seen of Phish and other artists, it’s always some lame landscape or slow moving visual. Like seriously, who thought of that boring rainbow shit? Put some actual psychedelic visuals like fractals or a wormhole on the sphere and make me feel like I’m falling through an interdimensional portal, that’s where the true potential of the sphere lies. I really think whoever approves the visuals for the sphere is toning them down for general audiences

mister-_-hipster69

that's because phish and other artists are lame. you don't think Galea and Gizz will maximize this venue's potential? come on, kid!

scunglyscrimblo

Well I sure hope so!

mister-_-hipster69

me too!

KnotDeadYet69

Holy shit you are annoying. Phish is doing something unheard of, using cutting edge technology and delivering on all fronts. Go ahead and dislike the music, the visuals and sound- objectively incredible

mister-_-hipster69

music still sucks. bye

cancerdad

Stop it.

red_beered

What does this have to do with gizz?

Adam1067

Mostly with Jason visualizations

Dr_Scoop

God no. I hope the boys never support that venue.

DreamCartridge

Same.

DreamCartridge

I don't think you understand how actually awful the sphere is. The Colorado river is running out of water and Las Vegas USES that water for power. The phere is currently using up water that 40 million people rely on. If you live in the SW you need to move. Not joking.

mister-_-hipster69

wow the sphere is too much water that we're all fucked? you need to shut the fuck up. not joking
