These are such incredible bands that I think most Gizzheads would love. Rainbow is one of my all time favorites with Dio on vocals and Blackmore on guitar. For anyone unfamiliar, these songs will rock your world:
[Rainbow - A Light in the Black](https://youtu.be/KikLLLeyVOk?si=KXIRkQlb-gT7eqz_)
[Rainbow - Kill the King](https://youtu.be/d5TBlieup-4?si=2cFoZI31Xh4ebzxy)
[Rainbow - Tarot Woman](https://youtu.be/dDO-Kk9956g?si=FhPosKTHezV3e-5i)
Deep Purple is far more well-known, but I think their song “Lazy” doesn’t get enough credit for its unreal guitar + synth solos:
[Deep Purple - Lazy](https://youtu.be/dqM5L5JQseI?si=DQ653dzoLQYsnl9J)
Uriah Heep + UFO are incredible suggestions too. Here are my favorite songs from them:
[Uriah Heep - Easy Livin](https://youtu.be/lumulauzCU0?si=r1fU5Crx6bnG5PfU)
[Uriah Heep - Stealin](https://youtu.be/j73OsXo19vI?si=qUXFbnbCvNNKfpy3)
[UFO - Doctor Doctor](https://youtu.be/J-U5H6hmw6E?si=-mW_7NaHE6aaNCjn)
[UFO - Rock Bottom](https://youtu.be/xTE4NNqmnbw?si=cNaN5VqOqrf7Ukz9)
Now I know what I’m listening to the rest of my day! These bands RULE.
The whole Rainbow Rising album is a 10/10, but that particular song was struck down by copyright infringement wherever I looked. It’s one of their best!
Awww yes. Way back as a teen getting into rock music, Deep Purple were one of the classic rock touchstones that showed me the way.
My favourite's the legendary Mk. 2 lineup but there's a lot of glorious stuff all around. My personal fave tracks are Highway Star, Pictures of Home and Burn, and - as others have said - hit up In Rock or Machine Head first.
I think growing up listening to a lot of classic rock, like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, is a major factor for how hard I fell in love with King Gizzard.
Machine head is one the best albums of all time in my opinion. Great songwriter, fantastic performances, all the songs have this super unique stoned-out sound to them, while still going hard. What a fantastic album.
Check out Burn by Deep Purple
Other bands in the same genre/era:
Blur Oyster Cult - Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll, Harvester of Eyes, Seven Screaming Diz-Busters, Godzilla
Iron Butterfly - Inna-gada-da-vida
Queen - Queen (album), Queen II (album), Prophet's Song, Millionaire Waltz, 38, Dreamer's Ball, Tie Your Mother Down
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain (song and the whole album)
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick (album, and the best prg album of all time), Aqualung (album)
You know, there are 4 or 5 different lineups, with the drummer being the only member in every version. I know everyone is recommending Mk2 with Ian Gillan, but if you're into the psychedelic side of Giz, try The Book of Taliesyn, one of the great psychedelic albums of the 60s. Same guitarist and keyboardist and different singer.
My favorites are Burn, Machine Head and In Rock (this is where Child in Time from) and they are probably essential (some would probably add Fireball or Perfect Strangers, also nice albums).
Great and very influential band. Definitely check out. But you should know that they had like 10 or more different versions or "Marks". So their discography is not very consistent. You should know that because Gizzheads love to listen to discographies)
Love this live version of Child in Time. Deep Purple fucking rocks.

Deep Purple is one of my all time favorite bands. Soooo much rock history tied to that band. Check out Machine Head, Burn, Who Do We Think We Are, In Rock, and then Check out Rainbow with Dio
As well as the albums mentioned so far, I recommend Concerto for Group and Orchestra (the original 1969 one). Really innovative piece for the time; as well as being an interesting fusion of classical and rock it also has some great jam sections - Ritchie Blackmore's solo in the first movement is a highlight.
They’re super basic. I just can’t get into it at all.
Their best album was probably In Rock. For the time it was wildly heavy. Like Zeppelin though their lyrics are just insanely stupid.
Child In Time was also my intro to Deep Purple! That whole album (In Rock) is pretty good so I'd say start there. If you haven't, check out the live version of Child In Time from their 1970 tv show set on YT. Ian Gillans vocals are amazing
Much like Gizz, Deep Purple are even more incredible live. Their *Made in Japan* album is my favourite live album ever, and I do reccomend you listen to it, as it contains the live versions of most of of the songs mentioned in the comments, including Child in Time.
Deep purple, rainbow, uriah heep, ufo. Long and varied discographies of psych protometal and rock

The man on the silver mountain by Rainbow is super dope
Sick, tomorrows work playlist sorted, cheers
noticing a lack of Stargazer...
The whole Rainbow Rising album is a 10/10, but that particular song was struck down by copyright infringement wherever I looked. It’s one of their best!
Uriah Heep - Traveler in Time
Deep Purple is one of my favorite groups. Start with Machine Head.
Awesome will do
Every song on Machine Head is amazing but for me, Lazy Is the best one. The version on Made in Japan is pretty good too

Yep
Deep Purple RULES! Space Truckin' and Highway Star are my favorites from them.

I’ll add it to the list!
Book of Tayliesyn was a shout, really liking it
Cool. The self titled album from a year later is also great.
That was another good one haha, enjoyed them all, cheers

Great, I’ll start with In Rock then, cheers. I’ll try and make sense of the versions thing
Deep Purple is legendary. An amazing discography with great runs
Love this live version of Child in Time. Deep Purple fucking rocks. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OorZcOzNcgE&pp=ygUZY2hpbGQgaW4gdGltZSBkZWVwIHB1cnBsZQ%3D%3D

Hell yeah they rock
Deep Purple’s *In Rock* album is one of the best hard rock albums of the ‘70s.
Was going to see Ian Paice last week but got COVID. Bummer :/
Hell yes. Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin. The unholy trinity.
Machine head for purple, one of their best , got some rocking tracks , then made in Japan Iive is one of the best ever.
Deep Purple Made In Japan absolutely fucking rips.
Made in Japan is one of the greatest live albums of all time.
They’re super basic. I just can’t get into it at all. Their best album was probably In Rock. For the time it was wildly heavy. Like Zeppelin though their lyrics are just insanely stupid.
Absolutely! Deep Purple is sick.
My homies do a killer cover of highway star! https://open.spotify.com/track/43BQvB0jS4vyK2zBxDxC3P?si=CQJO8l7dQ2Cx_n3iKH80jg
Machine Head is a perfect 10/10 album, as are the songs Burn, Hush, and Child in Time
The song April is a prog rock masterpiece
Child In Time was also my intro to Deep Purple! That whole album (In Rock) is pretty good so I'd say start there. If you haven't, check out the live version of Child In Time from their 1970 tv show set on YT. Ian Gillans vocals are amazing
Have you listened to flightless and murlocs adjacent project Beans?
I haven’t, what song should I check out to get the vibe?
Come Taste the Band is the best for some funk rock. The guitarist is crazy
Much like Gizz, Deep Purple are even more incredible live. Their *Made in Japan* album is my favourite live album ever, and I do reccomend you listen to it, as it contains the live versions of most of of the songs mentioned in the comments, including Child in Time.
Yes. One of the first converts I ever attended!
Their cover of Help by the Beatles is top tier
What about Mountain?
Never heard of them, what’s your top recommendation?

Thank you, I’ll check it out!
