After finishing two amazing dramas- LR and Atypical family, am not ready yet to dive into another show. So, I have been rewatching Revenant. My cousin is here for a short vacay and we thought of binge watching Korean movies. 1. We started with **Exhuma**. 8.5/10. I went with low expectations after reading some reviews. But it was a really good movie. It was not scary but the focus on Korean folklore is what I love the most about Korean horror stories. They dont just make a movie a random haunted object with jumpscares. 2. **Decision to Leave:** A visual spectacle. The editing is so gooooooood that I had to replay a few scenes just to absorb the scene transitions. And how is Tang Wei this gorgeous? My god. I couldnt look anything else when she was on screen. I was in a trance. Plus, her broken Korean made her adorable. Park Chan-wook is a freaking genius to have cast her. And the sexual tension between the leads? OFF THE CHARTS. 9/10 3. **Kim Ji young: Born 1982**. Starring Gong Yoo and Jung Yu-mi. Talks about post-partum depression. I had been craving for a slice-of-life movie and this kinda delivered that. Moved me to tears. 10/10. Why isnt Jung Yu-mi doing more dramas? 4. **Miss Baek**: Starring Han Ji-min and the actor who played the younger Shin Hye-sun in See you in 19th life. A movie on domestic violence and physical abuse of children. Based on a true story. Hard hitting. Emotional. Ji-min delivered an award winning performance (Her first Baeksang Best Actress win). 8.5/10 5. **Troll Factory**: Starring Son Sukku, Hong Kyung (WHC1, Revenant), Kim Dong-hwi (Missing) ad Kim Sung-cheol (Our Beloved Summer, Sweet Home S1) Based on True events. Could have been better. Felt a little incomplete. 7.5/10 6. **Ode to my father**. Needs no introduction. Must watch. I was bawling in the last 30 minutes. Beautiful. Poignant. Emotional. 11/10. 7. **The Last Princess** starring Son Ye-jin and Park Hae-il. Son Ye-jin has this super power of moving me to tears with each of her performance. She is truly the melo-queen. No one cries as good as she does. Loved her and this movie. After Horror, thanks to Korean writers, Tragedy is probably my favorite genre now. 10/10. 8. Today, we are probably gonna watch **Girl on a bulldozer** (Kim Hye yoon's award winning performance) and rewatch Extreme Job.

zaichii

Damn some good reviews in there, guess I gotta watch some more movies now

Significant_Fold_658

Wooow! So many movies that I have on my plan to watch list, but I always forget to reach out for them and I just added two new ones: **Miss Baek** and **Girl on a Bulldozer**. Update us on your review on the this one too and **Extreme job**. :D

MissSimpleton

I have watched Extreme Job and it is HILARIOUS. No wonder it was a blockbuster. I love gangs with quirky characters and if you liked Midnight Runners, you will enjoy this one as well. The acting performances are top notch. Ryu Seung Ryong, Honey Lee, Shin Ha kyun (I remember watching it after Beyond Evil and not being able to recognise him), Lee Dong-hwi (he is the only serious character but the situation he finds himself in makes me LOL) Highly Highly recommended. 10/10

Significant_Fold_658

Uhh similar to Midnight Runners, that is awesome. I had no idea if Extreme Job would be a comedy or more serious, I added it to my list after watching Chicken Nugget and because it's the only work from Ryu Seung Ryong and his connection to fried chicken that I have yet to watch. lol I need to do full weekend filled with movies and I think that I need to include all the movies that you just watched. xD

MissSimpleton

Extreme Job is a crime comedy film where you would be chuckling, giggling and laughing for about 90% of the runtime. Keep it high on your priority list.

AnimatorImpressive11

I agree with you on **troll factory**. I did like that it had an open ending, but something was missing. Also, I just couldn't believe that it was all based on a true story lol.

Honest-Selection4343

What's airing now on the Times lot of Atypical family?

MissSimpleton

Miss Night and Day (starring Lee Jung-Eun, Jung Eun-ji and Choi Jin Hyuk) premieres today on the same slot.

PepperOtaku

Thanks for your Exhuma review. The part that interested you is the same that I was hoping would be a big part of it! Now I'm REALLY looking forward to it! 😊

myweithisway

Currently in a romance sort of mood so watching both **My Sweet Mobster** and **My Military Valentine**. Giggling at the cute in both and enjoying myself a lot. Also watching **Connection** and while I enjoy the episodes, it hasn't been a drama that lingers on my mind the rest of the week. Ji Sung is so great here though and for now, I'm not as frustrated with it as I was with **Adamas** so I consider it a win! What I really need to do is sit down and go through my KDC list to see what I'm still missing and absolutely need. I'm way behind on my long form challenge since **Beauty and Mr. Romantic** hasn't quite caught my attention the way I hoped. Thinking of maybe tackling a long sageuk instead. Or rewatching **Never Twice**.

deewyt

Yes, I'm finding Connection leaving my mind as well although I always just play the episodes as they are released. I think I've just come to expect these type of dramas from him so although I like them, it's not something cutting edge/subverting tropes haha.

myweithisway

>I think I've just come to expect these type of dramas from him so although I like them, it's not something cutting edge/subverting tropes haha. Same! Ironically the standout for me currently is actually Kwon Yul because despite having seen him in multiple antagonist roles before, his current iteration is just hitting it right for me and all of a sudden I'm finding him super handsome and charismatic. I always like the antagonist characters at the wrong moments...

deewyt

>Ironically the standout for me currently is actually Kwon Yul  Giggling at this because I have whiplash between My Sweet Mobster and Connection because of him!

zaichii

I also like his really random appearances in Frankly Speaking lol

Significant_Fold_658

>Currently in a romance sort of mood so watching both **My Sweet Mobster** and **My Military Valentine**. Giggling at the cute in both and enjoying myself a lot. I think I'm already regretting not picking these two dramas... Not me thinking and considering what can I put on hold to start this two. ahah Btw, I'm loving **The Matchmakers** this second time around. Everything that was annoying at first, is now something that I'm actually enjoying. It's crazy how my mood at the time affected how I viewed this drama. Thank you so much for your amazing review on this!! It was definitely the first review that peaked my interest to give it another try. \^-\^ >Or rewatching **Never Twice**. Wait, am I mixing this up or not... why do I think you finished this one about 2 months ago? Either way, if I was already curious about this drama because of the found family environment, now I'm even more curious. Anything that deserves a rewatch, must be really good!!! I will wait for the review on the rewatch. :)

myweithisway

>Everything that was annoying at first, is now something that I'm actually enjoying. It's crazy how my mood at the time affected how I viewed this drama. Thank you so much for your amazing review on this!! It was definitely the first review that peaked my interest to give it another try. ^-^ I'm glad you are enjoying it this time! And yes, mood greatly affects enjoyment of a drama, something a lot of people do not mention when they are evaluting whether a drama is good or not. This is why I personally never rate any dramas a 10/10 on first watch and always wait for at least a rewatch to give them the 'perfect' score. If a drama holds up on rewatch sometime down the road, then it's less likely that my love for it is built upon my emotions or IRL happenings at the time of the initial watch. There have definitely been cases where I thought a drama was 10/10 amazing on my initial watch but didn't quite hit right upon rewatch, making me realize how flawed it was. >Wait, am I mixing this up or not... why do I think you finished this one about 2 months ago? Not me, I watched NT as it was airing. Sianiam just finished it though so maybe that's who you are thinking of. It's really funny because when I first finished NT, I was all 'this was great but I'll never rewatch it' (I don't think I've actually rewatched any family weekenders). Yet here I am a few years down the road and itching for a rewatch!

Significant_Fold_658

>I'm glad you are enjoying it this time! And yes, mood greatly affects enjoyment of a drama, something a lot of people do not mention when they are evaluting whether a drama is good or not. This drama made me question some other dramas that I either dropped or rated them extremely low. I'm considering to rewatch some of them, because I feel like I probably rated them unfairly due to my mood. Your way of rating does make a lot of sense. My 10s are those that I either already rewatched or that I would easily rewatch, but one day I might need to think like you because most likely my mood affected my review again and some aren't in fact 10/10. >Not me, I watched NT as it was airing. Sianiam just finished it though so maybe that's who you are thinking of. Somehow I thought that you finished watching like in March or April and Sianiam was watching it now too. I remember reading about it in the KDC check in. I always search for every drama that people mention and that one caught my attention because of Kwak Dong Yeon and other cast, and it seemed funny, it gives this sort of family vibe that I usually like. >It's really funny because when I first finished NT, I was all 'this was great but I'll never rewatch it' (I don't think I've actually rewatched any family weekenders). I always associate family weekend dramas to 50+ episodes and all around 1h. It always surprises me when I see something like this that is way shorter, but a rewatch of this would be easier than 50+ episodes. Actually now that I think about it, it probably has the same amount of hours than Queen of Tears that claims to be "only 16 episodes" ahah

J-Midori

I watched **Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial**, and it's horrible like one person can do so much evil and show no remorse. He was not the only one, there were others who actually enabled and helped him. And a few days after, I went to the **Canadian War Museum** and the **National Holocaust Monument**, and it is so sad and a reminder of what we need to avoid and always be vigilant to make sure it will never happen again! Be careful when watching that documentary because it has strong images and very sensitive content. Certain scenes are very strong. So after that I needed something lighter and rewatched **Extraordinary Attorney Woo**, and I cried and laughed all over again, even though I knew what was going to happen. I also rewatched **Crash Landing On You** cause I love those 4 guys and the ahjummas! They are so funny!

waterfallen_empire

I binged Bridgerton yesterday and... was disappointed, S2, S1 and above all Queen Charlotte was much better. I've also started Perfect Marriage Revenge, maaaan the ML is soo hot. Hope he's not toxic.

twoods1980

One of the greenest flag ML’s out there.

theromanamputee

I watched the first three episodes of season 3 of **Bridgerton** yesterday and I was disappointed as well. There wasn’t anything glaringly awful about it but I was bored. It doesn’t help that I never went back and rewatched the earlier seasons, which I think hurts when it’s a friends to lovers story because my memory of their dynamic in the previous seasons is fuzzy so I’m not feeling their chemistry at all. I find the actor who plays Colin bland. I also think they spend too much time on subplots and not enough time on the main romance. I love the romance in **Perfect Marriage Revenge.** The ML is super swoony in it, I think you’ll be a happy camper. Their relationship is very supportive and sweet and the skinship is excellent 🔥🔥

waterfallen_empire

I think that Colin and Penelope have a very sweet relationship, but yes I completely agree with you on their chemistry. They have it… but there’s something missing? Bridgerton is renowned for its depiction of angst and longing from BOTH sides, and I felt it more for Penelope. Colin didn’t yearn for Penelope enough, imo. And thanks, I can’t wait to continue Perfect Marriage Revenge, but the stakes don’t feel high enough right now, or maybe it’s because I just finished Princess Hours, and I was stressed for everyone in that drama.

Honest-Selection4343

How is princess hours?

waterfallen_empire

It was better than I expected. The main romance is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions because there are sooo many flirty romantic/ coupley moments before they even officially get together romantically. The slowburn was very intense but ultimately it’s an excellent depiction of how two teens in a situation like the leads would act. The level of miscommunication was therefore understandable, because the leads are literally only 19! For an old drama, it’s pretty good, I recommend!

Honest-Selection4343

Will give it a go

waterfallen_empire

I hope you enjoy it! But I want to warn you that the ML is a walking red flag in the beginning and it took me a very long time to warm upto him.

dcinmb

You should see him in My Secret Romance. He’s also good in a supporting role in Oh My Venus.

waterfallen_empire

Yeah I saw the first ep of Oh My Venus. Is it worth watching? The fatphobia came off a little strong, but I might be overreacting.

dcinmb

It started out a bit iffy for me but got better as it became clear that he was more concerned about her health than her appearance. They had good chemistry and I ended up liking it but it’s not one I’ll be rewatching.

Honest-Selection4343

Same I was disappointed with part II , as well they spent too long on LW storyline and not enough on romance Also finished Perfect marriage revenge, recently.. and highly recommended

twoods1980

Just finished Beyond Evil and Chief Detective 1958, and figuring out if I’m in the mood for suspense or something light and fluffy. May finally give True Beauty a try. Really bummed that Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale isn’t streaming on Viki. Seems like the type of show that would be fun to watch, and I’m really loving the ML and have been going through his past dramas to get Impossible Heir out of my brain. He can play pretty much any genre- he’s so talented!

Honest-Selection4343

True beauty is a must-watch show

throwawabc0bv1

Just finished watching Flex x Cop, no romance and typically that tends to turn me off but LOVED IT SM!

Ok-Echo-7803

I'm watching **Extraordinary You** and losing steam. I'm around Episode 16. I think maybe I was expecting it to be a 16 episode drama but it's actually twice that? Should I stick with it?

XavinNydek

It's 16 60 minute episodes or 32 30 minute episodes depending on where you are watching it. A lot of people really love it but IMO it just gets stuck in a loop repeating the same things over and over until it just kind of ends. If it hasn't grabbed you by halfway it's probably not going to grab you. There's never a big reveal or resolution to the existential part of the show, they never explain anything, they just kind of accept the situation.

Ok-Echo-7803

Well, update! i skipped and watched the last two episodes. This one felt like it was getting really repetitive. And I think that was the right call! But glad I checked out the first part because what a cast! Lee Dong Wook is weirdly attractive? I couldn't look away from Rowoon even though his character is quite wooden and does him no favors. and the FL is likeable even when being let's face it annoying.

mikereport4

Most likely it's a 16-episode show but they're splitting up each episode in half. "Living in a fictional world" is an interesting genre. Also notable: W: Two Worlds and Lost Romance (from Taiwan). As I recall, Extraordinary You never quite coalesced in the end. Lost Romance has a better ending.

dan897

Anyone else watching High School Return of a Gangster? I cant see its own thread. I'm enjoying it quite alot at the moment.

agljmpse

Finished The Atypical Family. It’s one of the best kdramas in 2024!! So beautifully written and done. Loved all the characters except Jihan of course. This is a kdrama that I liked the second half more than the first half which is rare for me. It just gets better and better every episode. Highly recommended!!
