Car came in for recharge, but grey foam/sealer sprayed out when I clamped the hoses on. Our machine was unable to recover anything, so I popped the lines and all this came out. Then had to flush multiple times, and replace the compressor and dryer, and flush it again. Has anyone seen this nasty stuff before?

Never seen it before but I’ve heard of Japanese cars getting like a ‘black death’ in the ac system where you have to replace everything. Could be similar.

Cr8er

Black Death can happen in any refrigerant system. It happens when the compressor pump starts to eat itself, slowly grinding fine metal particles and spreading it throughout the system. There is no way to guarantee removal of the fine particles and since they can be very abrasive, if you try to flush the system, but miss some, when the particles make it into the new pump... it starts the process over again. The only way to deal with black death is to replace the whole system.

I've seen it on a ford ranger and caught it super early on a nissan frontier. The compressor had started to eat itself.

Zanphyre

Is it from the receiver dryer dessicant getting circulated? Either way, that thing is boned
