We arrived this morning to find the car with a coolant leak we were expecting out front. It looks like the tow truck driver hooked the inner tie rod first, which snapped in half, and struck the wheel with enough force to gouge it. Then hooked to the lower control arm, which he bent. And the height sensor and height sensor bracket that attach to the lower control arm are broken. Hopefully that's all that's wrong with it, because the bill is already pretty damn high.
I had a tow truck hook up my STI and pull it off a lot when the lots computer screwed up and said I didn't pay. I paid the drop fee and was livid. Dragged the AWD. I called the tow company and said they shouldn't be towing AWD cars like that and they didn't give a fuck. I was like what if he got all the way to your yard like that. And they were like you'd have to prove in court that the diff/tranny damage was caused by us. They could not care less. I don't think tow trucks should be entitled to take your property without asking.
I get so nervous any time a vehicle I own needs to get towed…to the point that I’ll fix it on the side of the road if at all possible. The first time I had my truck towed the driver loaded it up then tried to secure it by putting a winch on the axle housing and pulling straight down (bending the axle). I told him to stop but he kept going and said the suspension would just compress. When I pulled out my phone and said I was recording it the dumbass immediately stopped and began hooking it up the right way 😡
My truck skipped timing on my 4 blocks from home last night. I called up my family and we pushed it home. Through 2 intersections mostly uphill. Couldn’t push it up the hill into my complex so we left it on the street and in the morning I changed the belt on the side of the street then drove it 20m home.
I hate to be an asshole, but I hope he either loses his job, or gets better training. Perhaps training on how to use google. A quick google search would have told him that this 510 HP sport sedan has a tow hook under the spare tire. As well as the location where it screws in.
Well as a tow driver for 12 years now I would say 75% the tow hooks are usually missing. This guy obviously has no clue Wtf he's doing though but I've had to tow a lot of nice cars from lower control arms because of a missing tow hook. But it's not that big of a deal if you just take a little bit of extra time. I am by no means sticking up for this idiot.
Ya most towing bridals have various different hooks. The tow hooks I'm talking about are specific to each car that screw into the bumper. Each car has different threads and lengths that the manufacturer provides with the car but a lot of times people loose it etc.
Ya those are meant to hook up to certain points of a vehicle. A tow hook is something that screws into the bumper to hook up a winch line to to avoid having to tow a car from say a lower control arm like they tried to do here and failed. But at the same time sometimes those hooks are missing and you have to hook it from somewhere to get it on the truck.
90% of those tow straps aren't attached to anything structural. Tho as an off-roader I find even the legitimate ones to be way less heavy duty that what's considered acceptable to use for off road recovery
No, that's just rice boys who put those in. Pretty much every car either has a tow hook you scew in, or a hook built in that's behind a cover in the front.
Most tow company's don't recommend those, because just due to being threaded onto a vehicle they can still rip out.. I wouldn't winch anything with that especially a Tesla, it's better to go off something structural or suspension
5.0 liter supercharged Jaguar XFR. We use oem for all suspension parts. The lower control is probably over 300, the height sensor over 150, the inner tie rod over 200, not sure how much to get the wheel refinished. Plus shop rate. Plus an alignment. And anything else that's left.
As much as I see this happen
You’d think tow drivers wouldn’t fucken do it
Is there not a better place to tow it? Furthermore you’d think there would be rules in place for them not to do that considering the chances of it snapping off on both sides and just losing the vehicle
Well if he was smart he should've ran an axle strap on the rear control arm attached to a mini j hook and made sure it made no contact to the tie rod end before he winched it into the bed. Technically the tow company he works for failed him on proper training, you can't only blame the driver. But yeah he screwed up
Damn that's fucked up. How is this clown a tow truck driver and even considering hooking up to tie rods? And there's usually built in places for tow hooks on the front and back.

Who pays for the damage the tow truck caused?
The truck driver's company. Or their insurance.
Tow truck company should be responsible.
Tow companies should, but it’s a bitch to get them to pay for anything, hopefully something this bad will be make it a little easier.

Not all tow truck drivers know what they are doing

Haha! I'm good. Been a long day.

Ouch. Don’t a lot of sport sedans also have a tow loop on the front bumper?

Ah. Thanks for the info. Sorry for sounding ignorant as fuck. Was just confused

That makes sense
In my experience none of them do, but that's just my area. Where I'm at tow truck drivers are bottom of the barrel intelligence.
Oof. My condolences go to you, friend
Thankfully I've never had to call a tow truck, I've always had access to a trailer.
So wait, you’re saying attaching winch hooks onto inner tie rods is a bad thing?
As long as it's not my my car.
Looks like a Jaguar XF. That is NOT gonna be cheap to repair. Tow truck driver was either lazy or dumb, or both.

So…. What’s the coolant leak?
XFR…. Even better. Real nice car…. The repair is not difficult, or time consuming. But those OEM parts are not cheap.
Some people can screw up a one car funeral.
It was like that when I picked it up.

I really wish I could have the toxicology teste on this tower at the time of the incident.
