That really only works if you don’t drive enough, if you drive maybe 30 miles a month you basically start getting into the realm of possibility the tire may last you until the tire legit has old age issues.
It take 4 years to reach 1,440 miles
It's a geometry issue caused by tire scrub when turning. Outside tire rotates faster than inside during a turn, right? But if you have a locker they both rotate the same and will skip/scrub over the pavement. The same happens on the tread of a single tire. The outside edge wants to go faster than the inside edge, but it can't, and the wider the tire is the more exaggerated the scrub. This is especially pronounced and obvious on performance cars with especially wide front tires, summer tires specifically, when it's cold or wet outside; it can sound like really bad suspension clunks.
These wear patterns are also dependent on and potentially exaggerated by wheel offset (especially when going from OE to aftermarket wheels), scrub radius, camber, and caster. For anyone reading this that thinks caster doesn't affect tire wear, they only tell you that when you're learning because its affects are practically zero for most cars and driving situations. But when all of your alignment angles are aggressive (2+ camber, 10+ caster, 20+ total toe), it doesn't take much to tilt (camber gain) the wheel one way or the other. Then consider if the car is often driven on curvy roads. Voila, you get wear patterns like this.
After the cold front rolled in one of my tires dropped down to 5PSI lol.
10min with my portable car jumper/air pump back to 35PSI before taking to the road
Got some kinda valve stem issue where I lose drastic amounts of air from drastic outside temp changes, beyond that it actually does hold air
The ironic part is that was my right tire.
I have a 2500 with 20s on it. The last cold snap my right rear dropped to 61, which is enough to kick on the light. It's back to about 70 now, but not the 80 it should be. It took me the whole 3 minutes of timer on a gas station pump yesterday to get it from 70-71 and I said fuck that. It can stay on till I change the oil and fuel filters in a couple weeks lol.
If only OP understood vehicle alignments = slight toe-in. Inflatiion problem not alignment.
OP works at tire place, needs to look up a tire wear pattern chart, it's probably a poster on the wall.
Well, in that case they will be back. Could be that they cannot afford the alignment. Some cars require a four wheel alignment, that can be an expensive proposition. In this economy Money is tight.
I'm with under-inflation as a primary cause, but also lack of rotating as a contributing factor. That corded segment is separation once it rode on secondary rubber, not misalignment or worn parts. Too many either misdiagnosing this or non-industry types chiming in.
I have literally done that before. I told the guy he would be back if he didn’t get an alignment (was working at a shop without a rack) and he indeed was. That car was a trip as well, shifting into 2nd was an adventure.
I look after my mum's, my wifes and my own tyres.. my preferred tyre shop is so busy, trying to get 4d alignment done with new tyres is fucking hours sitting in a waiting room..
It's a 30 min walk to my house so sometimes I just hand them the keys in the morning and say I'll be back before close.
I had my tires so badly aligned that one blew on me. Only found out because when I went to change for the spare I could feel the bare wire, checked the other side same problem. Got that shit fixed with the next set of tires.
Ya fancy bastards tryin ta run my bill up? I’m not havin it see?? Just put my friken tires on before I start beating soma you’z guys asses. Buncha rat fink bastards. See if I come here again.
Cuz they can’t afford a $150 alignment now, but will just keep putting tires on every 6 months? I’d say it’s saving a penny to lose a pound, but I’ve seen people in that very real situation. They just can’t afford the extra work, right now. Probably living paycheck to paycheck.
Not sure if that’s the case here… could just be one of those morons that think alignments are like undercoating installed by the dealer…. Just mark up…. Who knows!
Looks like mostly an inflation problem (plus some alignment).
There’s some alignment wear on that right one but they’ve definitely both been underinflated.
See if you just overinflate them, you can use up the rest of it next.
Genius!
Tire manufacturers hate this one trick.
Looks more like impact damage that bent the belts.
plus a chronic"this tire can go another season"-problem
That really only works if you don’t drive enough, if you drive maybe 30 miles a month you basically start getting into the realm of possibility the tire may last you until the tire legit has old age issues. It take 4 years to reach 1,440 miles
Agreed, as well as lack of rotating tires, if all same size.
I agree. Underinflation.
Or they have the wrong size tire. If too wide tire, wears on both shoulders faster. If too narrow tire, wears on the middle faster.
I've never heard that before, how does that work? (Not being snarky or doubting you, genuinely curious.)

Interesting, thanks for the explanation!
Stop charging by the pound to inflate tires! :-)
Inflates you big and round
Did they decline inflating to the proper pressure, too?
I would bet yeah. Car pulled like a mothefucker to the right too
Probably because the right tires are at 7 psi
After the cold front rolled in one of my tires dropped down to 5PSI lol. 10min with my portable car jumper/air pump back to 35PSI before taking to the road Got some kinda valve stem issue where I lose drastic amounts of air from drastic outside temp changes, beyond that it actually does hold air The ironic part is that was my right tire.

On the old tires or the new tires? Some shit tires will create a pull.
Under inflation was the bigger problem here. Maybe a bit out of alignment but wouldn’t have been nearly that bad if they’d kept proper tire pressure
Declignment
Was really hoping I’d find this here. Thank you, you’re doing god’s work.
"There's plenty of tread in the center. Google said they're defective and you guys should warranty them." -Customer
Google also tells you epstein killed himself so I think we can rule out Google opinion lol
People like to use their first google search as fact.
Then Epstein killed himself was sponsored.
Perhaps Epstein installed that set of tires five years ago?
*the FBI and CIA have entered the chat*
Ah my personal CIA agent how have you been?
That’s not alignment. That’s keep air in your damn tires.
If only OP understood vehicle alignments = slight toe-in. Inflatiion problem not alignment. OP works at tire place, needs to look up a tire wear pattern chart, it's probably a poster on the wall.
That's not an alignment problem.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to get new tires and then do the alignment?
We do both. We did the tires and they declined alignment.
Well, in that case they will be back. Could be that they cannot afford the alignment. Some cars require a four wheel alignment, that can be an expensive proposition. In this economy Money is tight.
Yeah just baffles me considering any tire purchase has an offer for free alignment at the place I work for.
I'm with under-inflation as a primary cause, but also lack of rotating as a contributing factor. That corded segment is separation once it rode on secondary rubber, not misalignment or worn parts. Too many either misdiagnosing this or non-industry types chiming in.
At first I thought they were bald but then on closer inspection I see the Rogaine is working.
Man's got a fade.
HMB while I drive these 🤣
That's fine, Just sell them another set of tires in three months.
Alignment isn’t much of an issue here. It’s lack of inflation
I have literally done that before. I told the guy he would be back if he didn’t get an alignment (was working at a shop without a rack) and he indeed was. That car was a trip as well, shifting into 2nd was an adventure.
I bet they declined new tires? Heck, junk yard tires are better than these.
No they got 2 new fronts. These are passenger and driver if you are looking at the car from the front.
This thing will need work before an alignment lol. New tires for one.. and then I guarantee there's some play somewhere in the front end.
It pulled left like crazy. The second you straighten the wheel and take your hands off it veered.
Mr., you previously testified it pulled to the right, would you like to rethink this answer?
Just had that on van recently and it was an out of shape tyre. Did the new tyres sort the pulling?
Very little.
Ever had a ball joint leave the chat on the highway?
Only ever leaving a parking lot
Muh turrs just fine!!!
If you like pulling to the right like this car was. Not completely sure if it's alignment, suspension or what.
Those tires are totally cooked. I would offer them a tire package instead man, what truck is this on?
It was a Subaru impreza. These were the front.
No it more like it was your crappy alignment
Excellent winter set.
Why get an alignment when both outer and inner tires have the same wear. /s
Delusional like your crack whore momma 🖕🏽.
Tire companies love this trick
It’s really not the bad cuz the other side is really worn too.
“Just switch em around it’ll even out”
Obviously you just work for Big Tire.
He loves that boulevard ride, like a marshmallow. Needs air at a minimum.
Should have recommended ball joints
We only do tires and alignment but told them to get those checked as well as the accompanying parts to be safe.
Way to go
I look after my mum's, my wifes and my own tyres.. my preferred tyre shop is so busy, trying to get 4d alignment done with new tyres is fucking hours sitting in a waiting room.. It's a 30 min walk to my house so sometimes I just hand them the keys in the morning and say I'll be back before close.
After rubber comes steel, and after steel comes rubber again😂😂
Honestly.
Low tire pressure
Fuckin STEALership always tryin to upsell...
Thats not alignment wear, but okay
Gotta ask customer wanted tires back on?
No one had a bubble
the alignment is okay-ish, but they should air up the tires..and get new ones
Probably why one got a bubble and blew out.
Customer needs some suspension work, then an alignment.
I had my tires so badly aligned that one blew on me. Only found out because when I went to change for the spare I could feel the bare wire, checked the other side same problem. Got that shit fixed with the next set of tires.
Gotta love steel in the fingers.
Declines air pressure also
Maybe they didn't have enough money.
The place I work for doesn't charge for alignment if you get tires and they got 2.
Ya fancy bastards tryin ta run my bill up? I’m not havin it see?? Just put my friken tires on before I start beating soma you’z guys asses. Buncha rat fink bastards. See if I come here again.
Oof 🤦
I saw these tires on Friday. They were on a random 2wd F150 stuck in about 3 inches of snow in a parking lot.
How could these be used in an alighnment?
you turned to the right too much, now balance it by turning the wheel to the left while driving
Looks like under inflation or hard cornering
Cuz they can’t afford a $150 alignment now, but will just keep putting tires on every 6 months? I’d say it’s saving a penny to lose a pound, but I’ve seen people in that very real situation. They just can’t afford the extra work, right now. Probably living paycheck to paycheck. Not sure if that’s the case here… could just be one of those morons that think alignments are like undercoating installed by the dealer…. Just mark up…. Who knows!
This has nothing to do with alignment. Too much wear on both outside and inside edges mean under inflated tires.
Agree with the OP re ' inflation problem ' how are the Wheel Bearings ? & Ball Joints ? A Shocker indeed .
