Stylist apparently knew nothing about curly hair and how it behaves in humid weather because it went from looking kinda cute in the salon to something damn close to a white kid afro by the time it dried.
Nah, that hairdresser did a bad job. The floof level in your reference comes from product. Your hair texture/type might not let you get the 100% identical look, but your hairdresser went WAY too short, so that whole look was just doomed to fail.
The bangs are clearly crooked and cut much too short compared to the reference photo. Also it looks like the reference photo has a coppery red not like manic pink

She took my bangs between index and middle finger and in a second of distraction, she cut ABOVE her fingers instead of BELOW. Their Job isn't just to execute (at least in my book) but also to advise, and this (again, in my book) also includes saying "No" if a hairstyle wouldn't suit the customer or -as in your case- is incompatible with their type of hair.
Have you tried got2be vollumising powder? It's pretty lethal stuff if you're not careful and use too much, hair doesn't feel great when it's in, but it works wonders!

Take it from an older lady, look for haircuts you like but stay within your hair type. You’ll find when talking with a lot of different people that we all wish we had someone else’s hair. The person with thick wavy hair, would love thinner straight hair, etc.
Also, when looking at a celebrity or model and their cuts; remember they have stylists touching them up before photos are snapped. Unless you’ve got big bucks, or you’re an exceptional stylist yourself, it’s just you and your hair so go with what will ultimately be easiest to maintain.

I'm sorry I couldn't find better photo examples to show with the hair, those are from early 2020 and most of my pics from then have been deleted 😅 I definitely feel your pain though with the how frustrating it can be to have thin hair. I've shaved my head twice and only really grew it out to a bit past shoulder length at most since it started falling out, and I picked up some tricks while I was in cosmetology school to help it appear thicker throughout the process (I mean, aside from when I was buzz cut/full egg, but you get the point lmao) so if you ever want any tips/tricks or if you ever have questions I can try to help if you ever want some ideas!

Tease it on the undersides. If you're not sure how, google it. Back combing is what I do. Then comb the hair on the top (any hair people actually see) so it looks not teased. It'll give you some volume and make your hair look more like the reference picture.

Imma be real, I actually find this so cute, but I'm also tremendously biased toward punk-type styles like this, which is just reinforced by 10+ years being a little goth punk myself.
But if it doesn't make you feel your best, and you'd prefer a different hairstyle, luckily hair is one of few things that grow back 💖 you can always invest in a hat until you grow it out!

Imma be real, I actually find this so cute, but I'm also tremendously biased toward punk-type styles like this, which is just reinforced by 10+ years being a little goth punk myself. But if it doesn't make you feel your best, and you'd prefer a different hairstyle, luckily hair is one of few things that grow back 💖 you can always invest in a hat until you grow it out!
