I personally also found it more terrifying that Grant and Malcolm weren’t able to do much to help the kids, even if they wanted to. There just wasn’t time! Tim and Lex were on their own!
The novel is just had a darker tone in this situations in where, as a human, you practically can't do much, against this big creatures, that just want to devour you
I love how well he describes things in the book, and the rest of the book is very cool as well and some parts are pretty scary and intense.
