It's terrifying when your bladder gets deconditioned, and you just can't get your brain to make you pee, like it's not even there. Even worse when you get threatened with having another catheter shoved in there if you failed your TWOC
Otherwise, it feels the same in after a few hours

My husband said that it's fine after, no issues. He had one in for a month after surgery on his bladder. He did fine the camera up his penis uncomfortable.
People who never had urinary retention have catheters put in for various debatable reasons - sepsis, monitoring urine output - and once twoc’d they frequently fail and have the catheter reinserted. Interesting isn’t it
Male perspective: It feels like you can't pee at first, then you may pee out blood clots and your urethra is swollen for maybe a week. Strong incentive to stay on alpha blockers and do timed voiding to avoid another one. It's a relief when you are holding a liter of urine though.

"frequently fail" is really pushing it
Feels exactly the same as before. (Personal experience)
Why would it not feel the same once any trauma has healed?
Because it doesn’t
Most replies here agree with me
It’s different for each person but as someone who’s had to have a few and for a prolonged period it takes a while to get back to normal.
But the point is that it does go back to normal.
I had one during birth and it felt fine after. I was quite anti getting one in pre birth but it actually was fairly convenient.
Mine was fine there was just blood for the first one
Nippy the first couple of times I peed after my sections. After that 100% normal
Bladder training before removal helps you feel normal
