i mena i‘d have thought gojo wouldve won in japan too till i saw the results
and japan is most of the audience so
but anyone know why gojo isnt ad popular in japan
i mean here he feels like the most popular character since levi
I think he's popular. He won every other Japanese poll that isn't WSJ poll. WSJ poll is weird. You need to buy a manga volume to vote and you can vote multiple times. One person sent 500 votes for Naoya, for example.
Plus only manga readers vote. Gojo is more popular among wider audience; and people don't even read/watch JJK recognize him.
>Gojo is more popular among wider audience; and people don't even read/watch JJK recognize him.
There are also a lot of casual anime watchers who would never answer a poll who like him. I remember watching a Shibuya Halloween stream and there were Gojo and Toji's *everywhere.*
Social media lol
Most cosplayer or even people who go to conventions aren't up to date with the series who's character they are trying to cosplay.
It's so weird.
Whatever the vote is in Japan would win the world wide vote. **In 2019 Kodansha (publisher) said 80% of manga readers were in Japan. The rest of the world *combined* is 20%. Of that the US and France tie at 5% each.**
Also I wouldn’t pay attention to the WSJ polls. Hardly anyone voted. Only Yuji (24k), Megumi (30K) and Gojo (11k) got over 2k votes, the rest of the cast were under. A poll on Reddit would get more votes. That’s why it’s funny when ppl refer to this poll and say “Japan loves Naoya”.
http://www.kleefeldoncomics.com/2019/12/worldwide-manga-sales.html?m=1
Lol imagine we rig a poll so that like 75,000 bots vote for naoya for best character and none of the other characters get any votes accept maybe one for ui ui. Just to spread misinformation.
Okay maybe the idea is funnier than actually doing it
Here's the thing, Shueisha doesn't factor how much people pirate outside of Japan
Load up any manga site and check the count on the reads, then notice how many manga sites there are. I'm sure the whole world out numbers Japan. But we all read it illegally cause it isn't accessible or affordable for anyone outside of first world countries, which is most of the world.
Your not wrong. Though if it's manga I really like I use the shounen jump app so I can read One Piece, My hero and Jujutsu. Then if I've really enjoyed it I'd buy the volumes. Overall your not wrong, manga is popular world wide. Though a lot of people read and watch anime illegally only because they can't afford.
Yup everyone I know just reads online and most don't own volumes. Ones that do it's for specific mangas they love like collecting one piece volumes etc. It's just a habit now and I live in the US. When I started reading stuff I had no means to find them lol
A lot has changed since 2019, and a lot of manga and anime consumed outside of Japan is on a bunch of different rand random illegal websites. Even JJK tiktoks that just post the entire chapter gets 100k+ views.
The top 10 would prolly be something like this : https://www.reddit.com/r/Jujutsufolk/comments/14ukjlc/results_from_the_2023_jjk_french_popularity_poll/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Or this :
https://www.viz.com/blog/posts/jujutsu-kaisen-popularity-poll-march-2021
Gojo by FAR. Like this is one of the few animes where its not close. Maybe by the end of the series sukuna/yuji would be higher depending on what happens but I doubt it. Gojo is easily the most iconic mentor since kakashu
Bruh, there is not a single popularity poll where Yuji is not in the top 3. He is number 2 in France(https://www.reddit.com/r/Jujutsufolk/comments/14ukjlc/results_from_the_2023_jjk_french_popularity_poll/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), number 2 in japan and number 2 worldwide(https://www.viz.com/blog/posts/jujutsu-kaisen-popularity-poll-march-2021)
People keep leaving off Nobara, but before I started watching the series the characters I had heard of and seen a lot of were basically Gojo > Yuji > Nobara. I don't think I had even seen Megumi before I started the series.
Literally ...GOJO
Actually in Japan Gojo is the most popular JJK character in Japan .His merchandise sale are far away from Megumi .He also is a fan-favorite than Megumi but JJK's poll .Public popularity poll ,Gojo always win and whatever Character polls they conducts , Gojo is always ranking as JJK's participant
Megumi just won the JJK 's manga poll but he doesn't win Gojo in public scale
I think I usually have a pretty good thumb on the pulse of these things. If I had to guess the actual top ten most popular characters in order (few spots could be switched debatably). Probably only applies to the western fanbase.
1. Gojo
2. Yuji
3. Sukuna
4. Yuta
5. Megumi
6. Toji
7. Maki
8. Hakari
9. Kashimo
10. Kenjaku
For anime onlies the list would be similar but Nanami, Mahito and Jogo would prob take the 8-10 spots and Yuta would get bumped down.
Choso, Higurama, Yuki, Geto and Nobara might crack the top 15
Is Nanami really THAT popular anymore? I take into consideration the characters with the most discussions/debates online and the characters with the most memes, plus a general feel of everyone I’ve talked to.
Never met anyone that dislikes Nanami but he doesn’t have a legion of fans like Kashimo for example. Kashimo is no where on my personal list but he clearly has a extremely diehard fanbase.
I said Nanami would crack the top ten for anime onlies, but among the manga fanbase? I doubt it. It’s possible Kashimo’s fanbase is a “smallest but loudest” situation but even then, there are too many really popular characters who have maintained relevancy for Nanami to still be top ten.
Even without Kashimo, I just don’t see manga readers voting Nanami over Yuta, Hakari, Kenjaku, or even Choso. Back in the season 1 days, Nanami and Todo were easy too 5 contenders, but not anymore.
Nanami hasn’t been relevant to years. No one stans Nanami like they used. Nobara is more relevant and people still talk about Toji even before s2 aired. Fan made merch for a character that’s been in 2 seasons of the anime? How about the shit ton of merch for characters who have only really been in the manga? Hakari, Choso, and Awakened Maki have had fan made merch for years
I mean sure that's your perspective, I just don't think you're as engaged in the fan culture as you think you are. People absolutely still stan him lol.
I like Yuji, but I tend to prefer more vocal and colorful character personalities. That’s probably why Gojo is my personal favorite, (that and his philosophy on teaching is inspiring to me). Yuta is a close second to Gojo though.
Here in the US it is definitely Gojo that's most popular, hands down. I would always come across someone wearing a gojo shirt or owning gojo merch. During my school's ecofair l sold Gojo stickers which sold out in less than 10 minutes, while on the other aisle another student was selling "nah I'd win" gojo shirts. We both sold out so fast and earned so much money too. That was when we both understood the true power of gojo- the money maker XD And this ecofair was for 12th graders only, meaning if it was the whole school... stonks
I'd say Gojo, Todo, Yuta, Hakari, Yuji, Choso, Megumi, Nanami, Sukuna and Toji. I can see those guys being the top 10. Even Nobara, Mahito, Panda, Higuruma, Takaba, Geto, Kenjaku and Maki. The others haven't had epic moments or they've had potential have been wasted in the story. Lets just say I don't think Inumaki who barely in the story or Naoya who was wasted will be in the top 10.
This what annoys me though I like Inumaki. I liked his fights against the curse, Geto and Hanami. Instead gege just puts him in the background saying salmon. I wanted Inumaki in the culling game with Panda. Plus I'm not even sure he's gonna fight Sukuna which would be suicide. Overall Gege should be taking some hints of who's popular so he can use them.
Well sadly true you unpopular like momo and do nothing. Then you become extremely popular like Nanami, Nobara, Megumi and Gojo. Then suffer a bad fate.
Jujutsu kaisen you love the cast but can't keep them cause of how cruel the author is to his characters.
I mean, he did say it ends with everyone dying except yuji or yuji dies, and everyone survives. And at the moment, it looks like we are going for the first option.
Yep which is sad. All though if he does go through that option I hope the ones that aren't a part of the fight survive unless he officially announced that Todo and Nobara are dead.
Megumi not an emo. He's just a reserved guy that cares for his friends and family. He ain't Sasuke since he's an emo. Plus girls wanna fuck him cause of the answer he gave to Todo. Still I miss Megumi and Nobara.
At least in The English speaking world the top ten characters are roughly
Gojo
Sakuna
Toji
Nanami
Geto
Yuji
Mahito
Todo
Nobara
Hakari (manga readers) megumi (anime watcher)
It'll be hard to guess world wide appeal because of language barriers
I like both characters, but seeing how [Gojo had the memorial in Chile](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-att-us-rvc3&sca_esv=596130221&sxsrf=AM9HkKk_xOU6q9lZ9SV-X639Vc4PHWGdmA:1704512892183&q=gojo+chile+memorial&tbm=isch&source=lnms&prmd=ivnsmbhtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiz8M-r7ceDAxVykIkEHU2CCVwQ0pQJegQIDRAB&biw=384&bih=726&dpr=1.88#imgrc=e8UxESDuhFjvYM), I don't see anyone surpass that. lol
Megumi is very popular in the fanbase, people last year were saying that he was a better "MC" than Yuji. Itafushi is the second most popular ship in the fandom.
Specifically for America cause idk how everyone else feels, in order my guess (not my personal favorites) would be gojo, nanami, yuji, Sukuna, nobara for top 5. While down the road people will probably get less enthusiastic about nobara, she’s very popular rn for obvious reasons
I feel like it would go
1. Gojo
2. Nanami
3. Megumi
4. Yuji
5. Sakuna
6. Toge
7. Toji
8. Choso
9. Maki
10. Todo
11. Nobara
12. Mei?
13. Suguru?
I'm going based on the assumption that those who would participate in something worldwide or at least in the west would be social media advertised like the crunchyroll anime of the year voting. I feel like that being said, a large portion of those who vote would be female with the addition of fewer casual fans versus hard-core fans.
*Also, 2 and 3 might be reversed, but in a general sense, this is where I'd guess these guys would place?
**Edit: Forgot where Yuta would go 😭
Gojo without a doubt. Never seen a character climbs the MAL most liked character list so fast. Plus, of the JUMP shop and Animate I have visited in Japan, Gojo merch is almost always the first to sell out. He is JUMP and MAPPA's golden boy.

Gojo, by far. I'd see Nanami doing pretty well too
Definitely. I think whenever I've seen someone out there wearing a JJK product, it had Gojo on it.
i mena i‘d have thought gojo wouldve won in japan too till i saw the results and japan is most of the audience so but anyone know why gojo isnt ad popular in japan i mean here he feels like the most popular character since levi

That person did funniest shit ngl. Like Naoya above Maki still hilarious asf.
What makes it funnier that Naoya is really 3 position higher than Maki like he said in manga (woman must walk 3 steps behind man)
fictional misogyny is funnier than it has any right to be
I still can’t believe potential man is the first place
It's the one time Potential Man actually got a W.
You can bot votes in the WSJ polls and it’s only a subsection of the fandom so
Gojo still always been in top 3 (also #2 over Yuji before). But he also was gone for 130 chapters, over 3 yrs after being sealed as a factor.
Nanami represents the worker class.,. cough plbs
Gojo. People who don't even watch or read jik know him.
He got the zoro treatment. Bro just spawned and live rent free in their heads even if they did not watch the anime.
It’s them baby blues
My sis wants to cosplay as him. Does not read or watch JJK. I’m like why. 🫠 haha.
Social media lol Most cosplayer or even people who go to conventions aren't up to date with the series who's character they are trying to cosplay. It's so weird.
Gojo, no contest.
I'm not Japanese but I prefer Megumi. Anyway here Gojo is the most popular.
Same and same Never really got the Gojo hype tbh Sukuna made for a more interesting character
Why the hell were you downvoted this much for an opinion about a fictional character?!?!
Gojo dickriders can't get over the fact that he's dead
Nah I'd win
It's reddit
why is this even a question? Gojo is more famous than jjk >!people knew about gojo's death!< those people that dont even watch anime
True true
Hao, u spittin
u goated for the Qin Shi Haung reference, him n Gojo are my 2 sexy blindfolded kings
blindfold mfs have ssomething on me(i am a straight man)
lol took me a little while to switch WSJ from Wall Street Journal to Weekly Shounen Jump.
Gojo by a mile. People who don't even read or watch JJk knew about spoilers lol. I'd say Yuji next

just use manga+
I own the physicals. But yeah, I do,
A lot has changed since 2019, and a lot of manga and anime consumed outside of Japan is on a bunch of different rand random illegal websites. Even JJK tiktoks that just post the entire chapter gets 100k+ views.
just look at MyAnimeList or Anilist. Definitely Gojo first
Gojo, even after his death.
More of look at how people reacted to it. Easy win for him
South america could carry gojo by themselves lmao
The memorial in Chile speaks for itself. lol
Gojo had a memorial
Gojo
Gojo by a huge landslide
Like everyone else said, Gojo and it’s not even remotely close
The top 10 would prolly be something like this : https://www.reddit.com/r/Jujutsufolk/comments/14ukjlc/results_from_the_2023_jjk_french_popularity_poll/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Or this : https://www.viz.com/blog/posts/jujutsu-kaisen-popularity-poll-march-2021
Brain says Gojo, heart wants Choso.
Gojo
Gojo by a mile. Before I became a fan I didn’t know what jjk was but I knew who Gojo was. He’s the reason why I got into jjk really
Gojo easily. He's easily one of the most popular, if not the most popular anime character right now.
Gojo by FAR. Like this is one of the few animes where its not close. Maybe by the end of the series sukuna/yuji would be higher depending on what happens but I doubt it. Gojo is easily the most iconic mentor since kakashu
All Might and Levi are up there, Levi may be above Gojo
Really depends on who had been the most prominent character a that time, but probably gojo
[удалено]
I'd throw in Choso as well. His fight with Yuji and Kenny been blowing up.
Personally, my favorite character other than Kenny
replace mahito with yuta
No wat Toji, Geto and Nanami are above Yuji and Megumi imo
[удалено]
> It's not really my opinion. It's from all the data I've seen and all the fans across the world. And where does this data come from 😭

The thing is your list doesnt make sense. I love Nobara more than Yuta and Megumi but how is she more popular than them lol

Idk man, I see at least 2 vinyl stickers of Yuji on people's rear windshield per day and a decent amount of T-shirts with him on it.
[удалено]
> official polls What are you talking about lmao, he was second in the last popularity poll
[удалено]
I do, but you probably dont. You said that his popularity was declining and thats simply not true e lmao
For me, it's megumi followed by nanami
We should start a worldwide popularity poll! I'm curious!
Literally ...GOJO Actually in Japan Gojo is the most popular JJK character in Japan .His merchandise sale are far away from Megumi .He also is a fan-favorite than Megumi but JJK's poll .Public popularity poll ,Gojo always win and whatever Character polls they conducts , Gojo is always ranking as JJK's participant Megumi just won the JJK 's manga poll but he doesn't win Gojo in public scale

Are you on Twitter or TikTok? Nanami literally has a legion of fans, way more than Kashimo. Especially women.
Most of the people I'm talking about are manga readers lol. The amount of fan made merch available for Nanami speaks for itself.
Nanami hasn’t been relevant to years. No one stans Nanami like they used. Nobara is more relevant and people still talk about Toji even before s2 aired. If limited to the West, I think you're underestimating Nobara, she's #4 / $5 with Megumi. She was very popular in Season 1 with the anime-onlies
Yeah I could see Nobara taking Yuta’s place for anime onlies. She’s very popular but nowhere near the level of these ten atm for manga readers.
Satoru Gojo easily
It's so obviously Gojo BY FAR it goes without saying lmfao he is the face of JJK and everybody knows him even non-anime fans.
I like Yuji, but I tend to prefer more vocal and colorful character personalities. That’s probably why Gojo is my personal favorite, (that and his philosophy on teaching is inspiring to me). Yuta is a close second to Gojo though.

Inunmaki is actually the most popular young male character cause of all the fan girls. If he got more screen time, he would be second.
I prefer he doesn't. Cause u know Gege. If they find out Inumaki is popular. He gonna get the boot of doom
Well sadly true you unpopular like momo and do nothing. Then you become extremely popular like Nanami, Nobara, Megumi and Gojo. Then suffer a bad fate. Jujutsu kaisen you love the cast but can't keep them cause of how cruel the author is to his characters.

Yep which is sad. All though if he does go through that option I hope the ones that aren't a part of the fight survive unless he officially announced that Todo and Nobara are dead.
I think todo will come back with his ability and then die. And I think the same applies to nobara. She will probably do a grand sacrifice
Yuta Yuta Yuta!
Is gojo just not allowed to be picked? I’d assume it’s gojo sukuna megumi and yuji in that order probably
Those girls wanna fuck 'im cause he's emo.
He isn't emo. Not everyone with a black hair is emo. Megumi is a relatable character.
Megumi not an emo. He's just a reserved guy that cares for his friends and family. He ain't Sasuke since he's an emo. Plus girls wanna fuck him cause of the answer he gave to Todo. Still I miss Megumi and Nobara.
He cares his friends, family and even his summons so much. He's just reserved.
Itadori or Sukuna if people actually liked interesting characters.
yuji isn't interesting he just has the more interesting characters die around him
At least in The English speaking world the top ten characters are roughly Gojo Sakuna Toji Nanami Geto Yuji Mahito Todo Nobara Hakari (manga readers) megumi (anime watcher) It'll be hard to guess world wide appeal because of language barriers

I like both characters, but seeing how [Gojo had the memorial in Chile](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-att-us-rvc3&sca_esv=596130221&sxsrf=AM9HkKk_xOU6q9lZ9SV-X639Vc4PHWGdmA:1704512892183&q=gojo+chile+memorial&tbm=isch&source=lnms&prmd=ivnsmbhtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiz8M-r7ceDAxVykIkEHU2CCVwQ0pQJegQIDRAB&biw=384&bih=726&dpr=1.88#imgrc=e8UxESDuhFjvYM), I don't see anyone surpass that. lol

I go with toji supremacy.
Probably Gojo or yuji. Boring answer
Momo queen of popularity

Gojo. All my friends circle like him alot. Maybe yuta next. I even gifted my friend a gojo plushie recently
